The 4 Leadership Laws That Will Make or Break Your Dealership02 Aug 202500:30:36

In this solo episode of Keep The Change, I’m diving into something I didn’t plan... but was prompted by that good ol’ still small voice. You know the one. The voice that whispers, “Do this,” and you want to say, “Darn it,” because you know it’s going to stretch you. That voice led me back to one of the most powerful resources in my leadership journey: John Maxwell’s 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership.

But we’re not covering all 21—just four that could quietly be shaping (or stalling) your team’s performance right now.

We unpack what your leadership lid actually is, how it affects your store’s results, and why some dealerships with the same inventory and location are selling 3x more than others. Spoiler: it’s not the salespeople.

We also get into:

  • Why trust is more valuable than skill (and why your people may not trust you as much as you think)
  • The real difference between surviving the month and winning
  • How your daily priorities are either growing people—or just keeping the wheels spinning

I’m sharing real stories from dealerships I’ve worked with, the hard lessons I learned in my early leadership days, and the one uncomfortable question every leader should be asking themselves this week.

If you’ve ever looked at two stores with the same inventory and wondered why one’s selling 300 cars while the other is stuck at 100… this is the conversation you need to hear.

Let’s dig into that. This episode might just be the mirror we all need.

Oh—and if you want to go deeper, join me Wednesday, August 6th at 9PM Eastern for the first session of the 3-week Leadership Workshop. We’re not just learning—we’re transforming.

Why Most People Stay Stuck (And How to Stop Being One of Them) with Paul Martinelli25 Jul 202500:45:52

In this episode of Keep the Change, I get the absolute honor of sitting down with one of the most impactful mentors of my life—Paul Martinelli.

Now, when I say Paul has built empires... I mean it. From a high school dropout sleeping in a karate dojo, to launching eight multi-million dollar businesses and co-founding the John Maxwell Team, Paul’s journey is proof that your past doesn’t get to decide your future.

But this isn’t just a rags-to-riches story. This is about how changing your thinking changes your life.

We talk about:

  • How limiting beliefs are programmed in early—and how to break free from them
  • What it really takes to build a business from nothing
  • The power of betting on yourself (Paul dropped HALF A MILLION to build Maxwell’s certification program—before they even shook hands)
  • Why most people say they want change but secretly fear it
  • How to make the wrong decision the right one
  • And the one question Paul asks before taking any action (trust me, you’ll want to steal this)

You’ll hear wild stories about million-dollar failures, investing in yourself when no one else will, and how Paul is now helping others build financial freedom through his Empowered Living platform.

But more than that—this is a deep, raw look into the mindset behind massive transformation. If you’ve ever felt stuck, limited, or like your dreams are just out of reach... this episode is your invitation to think again.

Why Most Dealerships Struggle With Leadership—and What This GM Did Differently - John Roberts23 May 202500:44:06

In this episode, my guest is John Roberts, General Manager of Roberts Motors in Alton, Illinois. John’s family has been in the car business for over 70 years, and he’s got a perspective that’s not just shaped by longevity—but by deep transformation.

We talk about what it really means to lead people, not just manage them. John shares how he went from being a shy porter who avoided conversation to running a dealership that’s grown over 30% this year. He opens up about the turning points in his career, the hard lessons, and why leadership has nothing to do with titles and everything to do with how you show up for your people.

We also talk about:

  • Why telling people what to do doesn’t work (and what actually does)
  • The practical changes that helped John and his team boost performance
  • What a simple daily check-in can do to shift culture and accountability
  • Why humility—not ego—is the real power move in leadership
  • And how to recognize when you’re the one who needs to grow

We also dive into some real talk about coaching, feedback, and how those uncomfortable moments—the ones where people doubt you—can fuel your biggest breakthroughs.

If you’re a GM, sales leader, or just someone who wants to lead better and connect more with your team, this one’s worth the time. It’s honest, it’s useful, and you might hear a bit of your own story in John’s.

Take a listen.

Brent Hatchett: God’s People Are a Waiting People27 Apr 202300:43:45

Brent Hatchett is a 20 30 s pastor in Cornerstone Church Chandler Az . In this episode, Brent shares his journey of discovering his true calling in life. After studying broadcast journalism, he landed his first job as a sophomore in college and had three years of professional experience before he even graduated. However, his friend Jamar's question, "Do you want to be Kobe Bryant or Jerry Buss?" made him rethink his career goals.

He went into media sales after graduation because every exec he talked to told him that he needed to understand the sales background to own a TV station. However, after nine months, he discovered that he hated media sales. So he decided to learn about how money works by getting a job at a bank. He stayed in finance for the next seven years but never loved it. He was just doing it.

But Brent is a living testimony of how God can give you things you don't even deserve. He failed every math class but passed the Series 7 exam, which allowed him to sell securities. So, even though he didn't love his job, God gave him grace and enabled him to excel in his work.

Despite still not having a clear vision for his future, Brent had a praying grandmother who took him to church as a child. He got saved at 16 years old, but it wasn't until much later that he felt a calling to plant a church. Brent explained that he grew up in a context where the majority of black churches were led by pastors who were more traditional and not always open to change. He knew he wanted to do something different, but he didn't know what that would look like.

It wasn't until Brent's wife challenged him to think about what he wanted his legacy to be that he began to consider planting a church. He knew he wanted to make an impact on his community and provide a safe space for people to come together and worship. He also wanted to break down the traditional barriers that often exist in churches and create a place where people from all walks of life could come together.

Brent discusses how to overcome challenges and find peace with God. They discuss how surrendering to Jesus, surrounding oneself with encouraging and accountable people, and learning lessons from past experiences are crucial in getting out of a pit and finding freedom. They also emphasize the importance of asking God what he wants from us each day, rather than focusing on what we can get from him. The guest shares how he reframed his personal questions from self-centered to God-centered, and how this helped him find greater clarity in his spiritual walk.

Brent's story is a reminder that finding one's true calling takes time and effort. Sometimes, it involves trying out different things and discovering what you don't like. But it's also a reminder that God can use our experiences and gifts to lead us to our calling, even if we don't know what it is yet.

However, it wasn't until the pandemic hit that I started to see the bigger picture and the crucial role leadership plays in personal growth and business success.

In this episode, I'll share with you the exciting news about my upcoming book, "Keep The Change," which explores the 12 Steps of Recovery as a path to personal development and leadership. I'll also discuss how my involvement in founding a Celebrate Recovery group at my church helped me realize the need for stronger leaders in both the ministry and the automotive industry.

We'll also dive into the importance of authenticity and the power of the Jahari Window in understanding our strengths, weaknesses, blind spots, and untapped potential. By increasing our self-awareness and being honest with ourselves, we can raise our potential and become more effective leaders and team members.

As we embark on this transformative journey, we'll explore the ten crucial chapters in personal development, ranging from influence, priorities, character, positive change, problem-solving, attitude, serving people, vision, self-discipline, and personal growth.

We'll also delve into the five levels of leadership - position, permission, production, people development, and pinnacle - and understand how nurturing these qualities can help us build stronger teams, weather economic storms, and ultimately succeed in our personal and professional lives.

Tune in as I delve into the importance of developing the leader within you and how embracing the power of synchronicity can lead to personal and professional growth. We'll explore the concept of focusing on "The One Thing," as mentioned in Gary Keller's book, and how this singular focus can make all other distractions unnecessary. Discover how finding congruency in your life can open up a world of opportunities and help you develop as a leader.

You can also check out my book, "Keep The Change," and pre-order it at a discounted price by visiting KeepTheChangeBook.org.

So, if you're ready to embrace the power of synchronicity and harness it to transform your life, hit play and join me on this inspiring journey of self-discovery and leadership development!

Chris Saraceno: What If Your Life’s Success Was Just Five Questions Away?16 May 202500:47:42

Before we dive in, a heartfelt tribute... At the request of my guest Chris Saraceno, I want to take a moment to honor someone who’s had a deep and lasting impact on both of our lives — Frank Marr.

Frank has been a mentor, a friend, and a guiding voice for decades at the Kelly Automotive Group. His wisdom, loyalty, and unwavering support have helped shape who we are as leaders and as people. While his name wasn’t mentioned in the original conversation, his influence runs through every part of this episode. Frank, this one’s for you.

In this episode, my guest is Chris Saraceno, Vice President and Partner at Kelly Automotive Group, and the author of The Theory of Five — a framework that’s been quietly transforming how top performers live and lead.

We talk about the five key areas that shape a fulfilling life — faith, relationships, parenting, finance, and health — and the five people you spend the most time with that either pull you forward or hold you back.

But this isn’t just theory.

Chris shares real-life stories and practical questions you can ask yourself right now to take stock of where you’re at and who you’re becoming. We break down:

  • How to find mentors in every area of your life (and why you don’t need just one)
  • The link between your personal health and your professional success
  • Why the people closest to you might be keeping you stuck — and how to shift that dynamic
  • And how middle managers in dealerships (or any organization) can grow beyond the grind

You’ll also hear why consistency matters more than intensity, why emotional intelligence is your secret weapon, and how asking the right questions leads to breakthrough.

This episode is full of honest insights and actionable takeaways — especially if you’re ready to stop drifting and start building a life that matters.

Chris Robinson: Transforming Lives Through Leadership30 Mar 202300:42:24

So often, our journey towards success and fulfillment starts with an inner spark, an image or a glimpse of what we can become. Chris Robinson shares his inspiring journey towards success and the power of visualization. Coming from a humble background, Chris attributes his strong work ethic to his father, who worked as a welder for General Motors for 30 years, never complaining about his job. His mother, also instilled in him the importance of having a positive attitude and finding ways to achieve goals, no matter the obstacles.

Chris Robinson is the founder of R3 Coaching, a company dedicated to helping individuals and businesses achieve their personal and business growth goals. His group training and one-on-one coaching has helped many businesses. Chris is a highly respected leader, coach, and mentor who has made a significant impact on many lives. He is also the Executive Vice President of Maxwell Entrepreneurial Solutions.

Growing up, Chris was surrounded by blue-collar workers, but an impactful moment occurred when he saw a friend's father come home from work wearing a shirt and tie. This image stuck with him, and he knew he wanted to pursue a career that involved using his mind rather than his hands. Chris emphasized the power of glimpses – mental images of where one wants to go in life – and how they can shape one's future if one holds onto them and takes the necessary steps to achieve them.

Growing up in an automotive family, Chris understood the value of hard work and discipline. These early experiences laid the groundwork for his future in leadership and personal development. With a strong imagination and the ability to envision his dreams, Chris set out on his journey to success.

Chris's journey towards success was not easy, but his ability to imagine a better future and consistently work towards it led him to where he is today. As the Vice President of Maxwell Leadership, Chris attributes his achievements to the power of visualization and staying true to his glimpses. He believes that it's essential to be disciplined and consistent in working towards one's goals, even if it seems impossible at first.

Chris Robinson's story teaches us the importance of having a vision for our lives and being consistent in our efforts to achieve it. The power of glimpses and visualization can help us overcome obstacles and move towards the life we desire. By surrounding ourselves with people who inspire us and asking questions that challenge our beliefs, we can achieve more than we ever thought possible.

Jeremy Hart: From Desperation to Redemption16 Mar 202300:41:32

Life is full of twists and turns. It can be hard to imagine that we can come back from the darkest places, but it's possible. This is the story of a man who hit rock bottom and found his way back through faith and rebuilding, Jeremy Hart.

Jeremy Hart reflects on how he came to know Jesus through a series of unexpected people and events. From his father-in-law to a stranger on a plane and two minor league baseball players, the people who brought him to Jesus were not what he would have expected. But as he says, "when the student is ready, the teacher will appear."

Despite coming to know Jesus, he struggled to internalize that relationship. Instead, he viewed it as head knowledge and didn't let it penetrate his heart. He ended up becoming successful in the financial world but without the emotional or spiritual compass he needed to navigate the highs and lows. He ended up leaving his mentor and starting his own program, which ultimately led to disastrous consequences.

He became obsessed with success and keeping up appearances, to the point where he took huge risks and made illegal decisions to maintain the facade. He was so desperate to be valued by those around him that he lost sight of what was truly important.

It was only when he hit rock bottom, attempting to take his own life, that he realized that he needed to change his ways. He found redemption through faith and rebuilding his life. It wasn't an easy road, but he learned that it's never too late to turn things around.

Through his journey, he learned the importance of humility and taking responsibility for his actions. He also learned to lean on his faith and trust in God, even in the darkest of times.

Life is full of twists and turns, but it's how we respond to those challenges that defines us. Jeremy's story is a reminder that no matter how far we fall, we can always pick ourselves back up and find a way forward. Through faith and a willingness to change, we can find redemption and rebuild our lives.

Addiction is a difficult road to navigate, and for many people, it can feel like there is no end in sight. But for some, there comes a turning point, a moment where they realize that they need help to change their story. This was the case for one person, who had been addicted to various substances for years and was burning out from the constant travel and hard work.

In this episode, we will hear the story of Jennifer Evans, the executive director of Grace Sober Living, who has been sober for four years now. Jennifer shares her story of how she overcame addiction, burnout, and mental health challenges.

Jennifer's childhood was marked by trauma, including sexual molestation and her parents' divorce, which led her to start drinking at the age of 13. However, she was always a high functioning addict and was successful in her career, serving on nonprofit boards, and building a global hearing healthcare program around the world. Despite being successful, Jennifer found it exhausting and was always about performance, which led to burnout.

Jennifer felt that alcohol was a way to escape and numb the pain of her past. She felt that alcohol was exciting and that she could escape reality through it. However, she realized that her addiction was taking a toll on her life and she needed to seek help. Looking back, she realized that there were many times in their life where she could have made a different choice, where she could have chosen a different path. But it wasn't until she was truly ready to change that the opportunity presented itself.

Addiction is a difficult journey, but with the help of a higher power and the support of others, it is possible to overcome. It takes strength and courage to ask for help, but it is worth it in the end. If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction, remember that there is hope, and there is always a chance to change your story.

Jennifer now leads the day-to-day operations of Grace Sober Living and has developed a transformation program. She is excited to share her testimony, energy, and the victory she has achieved in her life. Jennifer's story is an inspiration for anyone struggling with addiction or past trauma, and her message is that recovery is possible.

Pastor Will Ramsey: A Father's Journey Through Darkness: Growth from the Loss of a Son.02 Mar 202300:42:31

Will Ramsey (Will Ramsey Ignites) is the Care Pastor at Engage City Church, life coach, and motivational speaker. After experiencing the heartbreaking loss of his son, it was impressed upon Will that he needed to reach out and help lift others who are dealing with pain.

In this episode we will explore the story of Will Ramsey, an author who recently published a book about his journey through grief and loss  'A Father's Journey through Darkness: Growth from the Loss of a Son,' Ramsey's story is one of resilience and hope, and it highlights the power of faith to help us navigate life's most challenging moments. Will shares the story of writing his book which talks about his experience of losing his son and the journey of the three years that followed.

Ramsey's journey began in February 2020 when he lost his son, Brock. This tragedy set him on a path of grief and self-discovery, and it ultimately led him to new opportunities for growth and healing. One of these opportunities was Car Church, a weekly gathering of car enthusiasts who also happen to be people of faith. Ramsey explains that Car Church was the first step in his journey towards hope and healing.

The idea for Car Church came to Ramsey during a morning show he used to host called The Morning Word with Will. During one of these shows, he felt called to bring together a group of people who shared his passion for cars and his love for God. The result was Car Church, a weekly gathering where people could come together to worship, pray, and talk about their cars.

Car Church quickly became a source of community and support for Ramsey and the people who attended. It was a place where they could share their struggles and their triumphs, and where they could find hope and encouragement in the midst of difficult times.

But Car Church was just the beginning of Ramsey's journey. Ramsey's story is a powerful reminder that even in our darkest moments, there is hope. With faith and the support of others, we can find the strength to overcome our struggles and emerge stronger and more resilient than ever before.

This story is a testament to the power of listening to God's call and being patient with the process. It also highlights the importance of respecting our loved ones' opinions and loving them unconditionally. If you're feeling called to something, pray, seek counsel, and allow God to guide your steps. Sometimes, it might not make sense at first, but trust that He knows what's best for you.

What Most Manager Gets Wrong About Leadership - And How to Break Free09 May 202500:37:33

Ever wonder why some leaders transform entire teams while others just manage to keep the lights on?

In today’s solo episode, I’m pulling back the curtain on a strategy that’s not just another leadership theory – it’s the secret sauce to turning average managers into powerhouse leaders. And it all starts with one question: Are you a Level 4 Leader?

You’ve heard me talk about John Maxwell’s 5 Levels of Leadership, but today, we’re going deeper – way deeper.

 We’re diving into:

  • How a high-performing sales rep went from top dog to terrible manager in record time – and what every dealership owner needs to learn from it.
  •  The critical shift from position-based leadership to people development leadership – and why this is the sweet spot for dealership success.
  •  The 5 essential elements of a high-performance environment, from vision to activating your team to become self-coaching powerhouses.
  •  Why emotional intelligence is the missing link in almost every underperforming leader – and how to level up quickly.

Hannah Kirkpatrick: Embracing the Journey - A Story of Pain and Progress with Mrs. American 202102 Feb 202301:07:08

On this week's episode of Keep the Change, Bart joins Hannah Kirkpatrick. Hannah Kirkpatrick, who is the wife of Chris Kirkpatrick and was Mrs. American 2021 has a powerful story to share with us, one of pit pain and progress. She has walked a journey that we believe needs to be shared in order to help others.

As a mother of three and a wife, Hannah has experienced her fair share of difficulties. Despite being nervous about sharing her story, she understands the importance of being transparent and using her pain as a catalyst to help others. Her core calling in life is to be a conduit for the divine and to serve others, rather than putting herself on a pedestal.

The search for perfection is a topic that many of us can relate to. It is the drive to be the best we can be, to achieve the highest levels of success, and to be recognized for our efforts. However, what happens when this pursuit of perfection becomes all-consuming? When it starts to erode our authenticity and leave us feeling like we're living a lie?

Hannah shares her story of shifting from a place of perceived perfection to one of self-discovery and authenticity. We discuss how the quest for perfection can erode our true selves and how Hannah nearly lost herself in the process. Through this conversation, we explore the themes of self-discovery, vulnerability, and the power of embracing our imperfections.

In her journey towards self-discovery, Hannah discovered the power of authenticity. By embracing who she truly was, she was able to break free from the cycle of perfection and start living a more fulfilling life. She learned that the quest for perfection was, in fact, the greatest flaw in the world, and that the real shine comes from embracing our authentic selves.

Hannah's story is a powerful reminder that the pursuit of perfection can be harmful, and that the path to happiness and fulfillment lies in embracing our authenticity. By being true to ourselves, we can break free from the expectations of others and start living a life that is truly our own.

In this episode, Hannah takes us back to the beginning of her journey and shares what led her to a place of pain. She also talks about her experiences as Mrs. American and how it has changed her life. Hannah is a woman of change, a platform for change, and we believe that her story will be an inspiration to those who listen to it.

Join us as we listen to Hannah's powerful story and learn about the journey that led her to where she is today. Get ready to be inspired and blessed by this episode.

Terri Brinston: Taking Off The Mask26 Jan 202300:53:43

This week, we have Terri Brinston, a registered nurse, teacher, international motivational speaker, life coach, consultant, and author. Her passion is helping people achieve their goals in life, and she has recently published a book called "Grateful for the Journey" that reflects on her journey and the challenges she faced during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In this episode, we explore the power of belief and how it can shape our lives. Our guest shares her personal story of how a spark of hope from her father helped her break out of some limiting beliefs that have helped change her life.

It all started when her father became ill with colon cancer and she had the opportunity to care for him. During this time, her father suggested she become a nurse and this sparked a realization within her that she could be more than she ever thought possible.

She shares how she overcame her struggles with reading and low self-esteem, and how being vulnerable and asking for help was the key to her success. Through hard work, determination, and a positive attitude, Terry was able to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse and has since made a significant impact in the lives of others. She encourages others to never give up on their dreams and to always believe in themselves.

We are grateful to have had the opportunity to speak with Terry and we hope her story inspires others to never give up on their dreams and to always believe in themselves.

Dr. Anne Katona Linn: Breaking the Silence - Navigating the Journey of Recovery and Resilience19 Jan 202300:57:28

Dr. Anne Katona Linn is an educational and behavioral consultant who specializes in creating positive school climates for students and adults. She uses a coaching model and works with communities to achieve this goal. She has experience in supporting and teaching educators, administrators, and children, and specializes in mental health, substance use, special needs, bullying, and trauma prevention and intervention. She is a certified coach in the Competent Learner Model and Board Certified Behavior Analyst with a focus on Autism Spectrum Disorders and Behavior Disorders.

She is someone who has personally experienced the power of forgiveness and recovery in their own life. She shares her own personal journey, reflecting on her upbringing in Pennsylvania, and the car accident she experienced at the age of four that left her with PTSD and negative memories of her time in the hospital. She explains how she spent much of her life feeling like something was wrong with her and coping with triggers and panic attacks.

Dr. Anne's story is a powerful reminder of the importance of addressing trauma and mental health, and the need for more open and supportive conversations surrounding these topics. She also stresses the importance of understanding the impact of traumatic experiences on children, and the role schools and communities can play in creating a safe and positive environment for them.

She shares how she initially resisted the idea of recovery and wanted to achieve great accomplishments instead. But through a series of events and a choice retreat, she had a breakthrough moment where she cried and felt like a different person, and realized that God was using her broken pieces to help her become better and walk the path He had for her.

In today's society, the topic of trauma and its aftermath is still met with a lot of shame and stigma. It's important to remember that just because someone may not have reacted in the way we expect them to in a traumatic situation, it doesn't mean they are weak or at fault. In fact, the fight, flight, or freeze response is a natural reaction to traumatic events and it's something that none of us can truly predict.

Her journey is a powerful reminder that we can all overcome trauma and that with the right support and tools, we can live a life of significance and purpose. It's also important to remember that healing is a journey and it's not always a straight path. But with the right mindset, anything is possible.

Thank you for listening to Keep the Change, and we hope Dr. Anne's story will inspire others to seek help and support in addressing their own experiences with trauma and mental health.

Chris shares his journey from his humble beginnings to his current success and the role that faith has played in his life. Chris is a person of boundless energy and a heart for helping others, and he brings hope and inspiration to the show.

In this episode, Chris shares his journey from his humble beginnings in Vermont to his current success. He talks about growing up in a double wide trailer without much education around money and how he became a competitive athlete, even competing for the Olympics for a period of time. But Chris's story is not just about athletics; it's also about faith and the role it has played in his life.

We hear from Chris Kirkpatrick about the importance of resilience and perseverance in the face of adversity. Chris talks about his own journey, from the highs of having a successful business to the lows of having to drive for Uber to make ends meet. But through it all, Chris maintained his faith and kept a positive attitude, believing that everything was happening for a reason.

Chris shares how he hit his breaking point and had a screaming match with God, but then the very next day, landed a multi-six-figure marketing deal from a passenger in his Uber. It's a powerful reminder of the transformative power of resilience and faith, and how those qualities can help us overcome any challenge.

Chris talks about the impact that a man named Dell had on him, from driving him to his first big track meet at the age of 16 to being a constant source of support and guidance. Chris reflects on the importance of having someone in your life who lifts you up and changes your trajectory, and he even suggests creating a Dell Award to honor those who have had a similar impact on others.

Quoting from our conversation with Chris “As I sat in the back of my Uber, I couldn't help but feel like I was at a crossroads in my life. I had just been through a rough patch in my business and had been forced to take on a gig as an Uber driver to make ends meet. But as I chatted with my passenger, I couldn't help but feel like things were about to take a turn for the better.

My passenger, a successful businessman, was clearly impressed by my marketing skills and asked me more about my work. Despite my current circumstances, I felt a sense of pride in my profession and decided to be honest with him about my current situation. It was a risky move, but I felt a strong desire to be authentic and genuine in our conversation.

To my surprise, my honesty paid off. My passenger was interested in learning more about the Dream 100 concept and asked for my help in implementing it in his business. Before I knew it, he had given me his business card and asked me to come into his office for a meeting.

Within just 48 hours, my life had completely changed. I went from feeling lost and uncertain to being exactly where I wanted to be. It was a moment that shifted the direction of everything for me and solidified my belief in the power of authenticity and vulnerability.”

Chris shares how he went from the pit to peace and how anyone can make that journey. He talks about the power of resilience and how he has overcome challenges and setbacks to get where he is today. Chris's story is full of hope and inspiration, and we know you'll be moved by it.

In this episode, Jeff shares his powerful journey of addiction, recovery, and finding purpose. He talks about the moment he woke up in a psych ward, filled with shame and confusion, not knowing how he had ended up there or what had happened. He shares how he struggled with a covert resentment towards God, medicating his feelings with addiction instead of dealing with them head on.

But through the support of treatment and his community, he was able to overcome his addiction and rebuild his life. He learned to trust in God's plan for him and discovered a deeper sense of purpose and meaning. Now, he is sober and committed to helping others who are struggling with addiction.

We chatted with Jeff about his journey, his work as a coach, and his passion for storytelling. We also discuss the importance of listening and how it's more than just hearing words, it's about showing up fully and being present. We also dive deep with Jeff and get to know more about his journey and the work he does. We believe that by listening authentically and organically, we can truly understand the heart and soul of the person on the other side. Communication is a crucial part of any relationship, and it's important to not just hear what someone is saying, but to truly listen and understand their perspective.

Jeff discusses his journey with faith and how it has shaped their career and life. How he started volunteering at a youth center and eventually became a pastor and started a nonprofit focused on helping young men between the ages of 15 and 25. Jeff had a traumatic accident during a father-son retreat and experienced a severe opioid addiction and PTSD as a result. Despite this, he was able to continue their ministry work and eventually overcome their addiction through the support of their community and therapy.

He also reflects on his experiences with regret and how he has come to embrace and cherish even the most painful and difficult moments in his life. Jeff believes that we are often limited in our understanding and perspective due to our own expectations and desires, and encourages everyone to let go of these limitations in order to see more clearly.

Jeff shares his own personal journey of struggling with mental health, feeling outside of acceptance and experiencing the consequences of their choices. He eventually found himself working as a handyman and feeling a deep ache for something more, but also carrying a backpack full of shame. He was eventually invited to a retreat with a Christian entrepreneur, where he had a life-changing experience and realized that his purpose was to help other men navigate their own experiences of brokenness and find the good within it, reframing it as a new assignment and alignment to a greater purpose.

We hope you enjoy this conversation with Jeff and take away valuable insights and inspiration. Remember, you have the power within you to turn your suffering into a superpower. The Value Of Being A Lifelong Student w / Pat Williams15 Dec 202200:55:09

Pat Williams is a basketball Hall-of-Famer, co-founder of the NBA’s Orlando Magic, and former general manager of the Philadelphia 76ers. Also one of America’s top motivational and inspirational corporate speakers, Pat has addressed employees from many Fortune 500 companies. Pat is also the author of over 100 books, his most recent title is REVOLUTIONARY LEADERSHIP.

What we discuss in this episode:

  • Pat shares the story about how his father introduced him to the game of baseball in June of 1947 and how the sites immediately struck him, the sounds, smells, and color of baseball. At seven years old, he remembers deciding that he wanted to play baseball for the rest of his life.
  • He admits that those were big dreams, but he made it to the minor leagues playing for the Phillies organization with enough determination.

"But I had a better future in the front office than I did on the field in the Phillies, and they noticed that. They gave me an opportunity to learn the ropes as a minor league operator for different teams in their farm system. That paved the way to my switch to the NBA in 1968 where I enjoyed a 51 year run."

  • Being a perpetual student is something that Pat Williams offers as advice to anyone seeking to grow.

"I encourage young people where they are in their careers to find mentors, find life coaches, find sages, that you can pick their brains and you can learn from them and you can stay in touch with them. When you have questions that seem to be perplexing you, go to those people and learn and pull from them. In my profession, whenever I found someone that I could learn from or benefit from, I would pepper them with questions, and seek them out, and try to spend as much time with them as possible."

Is It Faith or Religion? W/ John Clements08 Dec 202200:43:20

John Clements is a medical practitioner whose career has spanned over 50 years. He has a heart for children in developing countries. His early career included a year running a Christian mission hospital in the Peruvian Amazon, followed by postings as Chief Medical Officer in Bangladesh and Afghanistan with Save the Children Fund. He joined the global leadership team for infant and childhood immunization at the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva. Over his 17 years with the UN, he worked in around 100 countries, mostly in the developing world. He has taught public health at the postgraduate level at a number of universities. He writes extensively and has published many books, book chapters, and articles in the medical literature on public health issues. In 2003, he moved to Australia, where he worked as a consultant with several UN agencies and Australia-based international health agencies. He is an associate professor at the University of Melbourne. In 2020, he was awarded membership in the Order of Australia for his work in international health. He has two adult sons, both of whom work in the international aid sector. He was an elder in an evangelical church for a number of years before moving to house churches.

His story really kicks off when he was in primary school, age 10. With a very strict school mistress who insisted they take a book out of the library every Friday and bring it back the next Friday, and by chance - by God, John took a specific book out which made him curious.

It was the life story of Albert Schweitzer. He was born in 1870 in Germany, and he became a world-renowned organist. He played bars and things like that. He had a lot of success with his recordings Organist toured Europe, becoming the darling of Europe at the age of 30.He felt the call of God on his life. He went to medical school, got qualified, and spent most of the rest of his life in Gabon, Africa, the darkest continent in the world.

It was a very primitive situation. He got involved, built a hospital, provided services where none were available, ran a hospital, operated it, and did incredible work.He became internationally recognized for his writings, and in 1956 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. So here was a man of great stature and moral courage who had just spoken to the deepest part of John's heart.

And he was certain that he wanted to do what Albert Schweitzer did right away.John studied the right subjects at school. He went through medical school, was trained in pediatrics and obstetrics in public health and tropical medicine, and then, to his amazement, he went to dark Peru and was offered the chance of running a hospital in the Amazon by a Catholic mission organization called Jas International, operating out of Liverpool.

Talking about his experience and how people from there didn't trust West Medicine and the white nurses and doctors that were running it. They regarded someone with pale skin and brown eyes as a gringo.

From being referred to as a "gringo," which was an obstacle to overcome, and the fact that they were very reluctant to come to the hospital at first to then calling him El Doctoral, which was good.

Fast forward to when he came back from Peru and met his wife. And just like everyone else, his faith had quite a few dips. John encourages young people who are struggling with their faith that hey need to know that it's quite normal to have a dip in their faith.

John found another passion to become a chaplain and do the work of Christ, for which he eventually became an elder in a church. He also has written a book called "The Gospel Unadorn." Targeting the mature Christian in easy-to-understand language, the book explores the difference between faith alone in Christ alone and those elements of church religion that have been hoisted onto the backs of believers.

Serving Through Suffering for God’s Glory W/ Pastor Malinga01 Dec 202200:44:10

Have you ever walked through a situation in life that left you wondering why God would allow you to experience the hurt, pain, or even discouragement that resulted? There is no doubt that some challenges in life are the result of poor choices, but for every believer, the reality is that we will walk through hardship and experience pain.

One of the most beautiful aspects of Christianity for our persecuted brothers and sisters around the world are the stories from the Bible of those who came before who were persecuted. The Bible is rich with accounts of people who suffered for their faith in different ways.

Now, this is one incredible life story that you must listen to too. Malinga is the pastor of Christ Life Church in Zambia. Pastor Malinga went from serving in ministry to being in prison for two years and three months for a mistake he did not commit. He was a "normal" everyday kid growing up in Zambia. After high school, he became actively involved in the local church, doing youth ministry, cleaning the church, going to the streets, feeding kids on the streets, and doing hospital visitation. The leaders in the church then saw the call of God in his life, and they decided to give him the First Church to lead at the age of 20. But things don't always go as we want. It is a guarantee that we will have trouble in this world, as Jesus himself did. But, with his power and presence in our lives, we are called to endure and thus shine the light of Christ in a dark world.

In this episode, Pastor Malinga talks about his entire journey and what ultimately led him to accept God’s will while being a "prisoner" and become a full-time pastor and preacher, massively impacting many people in prison.

"What is it?" I began to wonder. What's the meaning of life when you've been wrongfully imprisoned, when you're eating bad food, and when you're sleeping in a crowded place full of bed bugs?

"What is life? And it was in those moments that the Lord started teaching me that life is an opportunity that God gives to us. Life is an opportunity to love, to serve, and to honor God and mankind. that even though I was wrongfully imprisoned, the law had given me a great opportunity in prison to love my enemy, to save my enemy, and to honor God by doing that."

After two and a half years, finally, the day of defense and judgment came. On that day, the same man that I'd helped, who had now recovered, stood up in the courts of law before the judges and the police officers.

And he pointed at me and said, "This man, he's an innocent man." He doesn't know anything about all my criminal activities. I simply carried him in the vehicle like an ordinary passenger. And those words, which he spoke, opened the doors for me to be released from prison.

How Mike Luner Holds $4K Gross Per Car Without Charging Over MSRP02 May 202500:41:58

What if I told you that there’s a Toyota dealer in the Midwest pulling $4K in front-end gross per unit… without ever charging over MSRP?

Yeah, read that again.

In this episode, I sit down with my good friend and industry powerhouse, Mike Luner—a guy I’ve known and respected for over 30 years. Mike isn’t just running a dealership. He’s building a culture where process, profit, and people all win. We talk about real leadership, real margins, and real strategies that actually work in today’s market—even with all the noise about margin compression.

Here’s what we dive into:

  •  How Mike turned a small-town Toyota store into a gross-generating machine (think $800K+ in front-end just from Seal Jet and Diamond Fusion)
  •  His bulletproof trade-in strategy that starts low and wins big—every time
  •  Why his salespeople are averaging $85K/year and not leaving
  •  The secret to consistent leadership: Friday sales meetings (for 40 years straight!) and never being too good to sweep the lot

Following Your Passion w/ Nick Nollenberger24 Nov 202200:42:33

Years ago, when I was a kid, I used to go to my grandmother's house probably every other weekend. And we would listen to a Play-By-play guide named Ernie Harwell, the voice of the Detroit Tigers. Now, Fast forward to 2022 today. Every night during the hockey season, me and my beautiful wife Mary, get to sit on the couch and listen to my favorite broadcaster. And that is Nick Nollerberger. Nick is the Voice of The Barracuda, the play-by-play guide for the San Jose Sharks Top Farm team, and also my son.

In this episode of Keep The Change, Nick Nollenberger tells his life story, his journey, and how he's been chasing his passion since he was a kid.

Nick tells the story of how his brother wouldn't allow him to play in hockey games unless he was in charge of refereeing. This goes back to when Nick was a kid, and the two of them played on the floor with sticks in the living room. That's how long ago he realized he liked broadcasting and that he could pursue that as a career if he wasn't an athlete.

Early in his career, he worked as the second announcer and public relations assistant for the Kannapolis Intimidators, the single-A club of the Chicago White Sox. After playing for a single year at the minor league baseball level, Nollenberger moved on to the NAHL's Odessa Jackalopes for a year before joining the Barracuda for the 2016–17 season.

Nick says, "If you're able to treat people, respect, be a team player, be hardworking, be passionate, and be kind of a carrier of the torture of the organization in a positive light, then you add value to yourself, and you have an opportunity to build relationships and those relationships, whether.

You're looking for something in return or not; hopefully, they'll propel you into something beyond where you're at because it is relationships that will probably get you the next opportunity and, uh, reputation. So it's little things that go a long, long way."

Stuck To The Faith W/ Bruce Miller17 Nov 202200:40:30

Despite our emotional response to motivational tales, most of us don't adjust our behavior until we face a similar challenge in real life. Bruce Miller is the guest on this week's program. Miller Motors' current owner is a cancer survivor who has learned to find the good in even the worst of situations. In other words, Bruce beat cancer. He is devoted to Christ, successful in business, and an outstanding leader. In this episode of Keep The Change,Bruce opens up about his difficult upbringing as an only kid to two alcoholic parents. His insights on loss, stress, service, wellness, and appreciation will motivate us to pursue inner and outer radiance and help us become our best selves.

From dropping out of high school to managing the largest Chevrolet dealership in New Orleans to being laid off while battling cancer and still maintaining his faith in God.

Bruce started to discover new ways to enjoy life. Through family, community, friendship, and duties, he found the unexpected places where happiness may be found. In addition, he discovered it by reconnecting with God, who alone can satisfy our most fundamental wants.

This episode got to me emotionally, and it might get to you, too. I admire Bruce’s courage and strength for himself. The changes he made appear to be doable for anyone facing similar challenges.

The practice of learning to surrender one's burdens to Jesus (at the cross) and then letting them go without returning to "chew on them."Learning to trust God is an integral part of releasing our burdens to Him, and this is something we must cultivate through time with God's assistance.Sometimes the miracles we pray for don't happen, but we still need to keep our eyes peeled for the miracles God brings. We hope this story inspires you to make those changes you have been considering.

Back From Broken - Addiction to Ministry w/ Mark Gill10 Nov 202200:47:37

Mark Gill is the pastor of Celebrate Recovery at Sun Valley Church in the Phoenix area. He's also the prison Pastor of Prentice Prison Ministries at Sun Valley. He is the owner of Gill Auto Service, which has owned a company that has serviced automobiles for several years.

In this episode of Keep The Change, Mark Gill shares about overcoming addiction and his experience of confronting death and going through change. Each of us has a purpose for being here, and God will utilize your life in unexpected ways. Jesus offers a freedom that disarms the unknown, so you don't have to live in fear. Your future has serenity, and your presence has a purpose. Remember this if you reach your lowest point: You are not alone. When you trust God, He will guide you to transform lives because He sees value where you see nothing.

Mark Gill loves working on cars and helping people struggling with addiction, but his life looked very different not too long ago. He has a story that you literally need to hear to believe.

Mark discusses how Christianity and the message of Jesus have impacted his life after having first-hand experience with what it takes to overcome addiction. Mark discussed the time in his life when his life began to turn around after years of battles with drugs and depression after losing her sister from an accident he feels he's responsible for. After a violent incident left him shaken, Mark changed his life.

Regarding issues like addiction, it can frequently appear as though our struggles in life are insurmountable. A solution to our current predicament can occasionally be challenging to discern. It might be a guiding light for our own life to hear from those who have gone through these situations. Sometimes, when we can reach back, the beauty of our battle becomes apparent.

After years of addiction, Mark has found healing, recovery, and purpose in life. The story of his spiritual path to recovery is memorable and moving.

Diana is the owner of flowe consulting. She's also been in the nursing field for many years. She's got a great recovery story that we need to hear.

The story Diana tells in this episode is the stuff movies are (and have been) made of. Many people have screwed up royally at least once in their lives. They've crashed cars, yelled at the wrong guy in a bar, fallen asleep on guard duty, cheated on their spouse . . . or worse. Sometimes, people dwell a lot on screw-ups. But in Diana's case, we hear more about what it means to deal with regret while moving on.

Her story takes several significant turns, but one struggle he faced more than once was not feeling loved. There's the loneliness that comes from pain. And then there's the solitude some people might seek to heal from the things that hurt them.

In this episode of Keep The Change, Diana narrates her daring life story from growing up raised in a typical home with both parents in the little North Carolina hamlet of Barbara Junction. Her mother was a nurse, but she didn't feel loved growing up. Began dating When she was about 13 years old, and how she experienced severe depression. Began using alcohol to attempt suicide and decided to quit school in ninth grade to go out only to the party, only to fall in love and get married at the age of 15 and Living in the woods with no food until something clicked along the way.

Tune in to the show to listen to Diana share her story of how she went from a chaotic upbringing and battling alcohol addiction to becoming sober and finding a new identity in her recovery process.

How to Build a Winning Sales Team From the Ground Up25 Apr 202500:37:06

What if I told you… sales isn’t just something you do — it’s who you become?

In this solo episode, I’m opening up the playbook.

From watching my mom take over the family dealership with zero experience and turning it into a powerhouse, to my own journey through sales, leadership, AutoNation, Maxwell Leadership, and now running coaching bootcamps — I’m laying it all out.

But this episode isn’t about my story…

It’s about how you can take real action in yours.

Here’s what we get into:

  • The spark that reignited my love for sales training (and how God used a coffee shop to do it).
  • Why most salespeople don’t lack motivation—they lack meaningful goals.
  • A simple goal-setting exercise that will change the way your team thinks (and sells).
  • The three types of customers you must understand — and the one that makes the biggest difference.
  • Why your people need more than process—they need purpose. And how you help them find it.
  • A breakdown of the Auto Mastery Bootcamp framework—from mindset to metrics, and everything in between.

Plus…

I’ll give you the exact exercise we use in our bootcamps that gets sales teams fired up and focused. It’s practical, repeatable, and it works. And if you want to steal it? Be my guest.

This episode is for the leaders who care.

For the ones ready to develop their people—not just manage them.

And for anyone who knows deep down… there’s more potential in the room.

Paul Gustavson is the CTO of SimVentions, a company focused on developing, integrating, and transitioning new technology to warfighters. In this episode of Keep The Change, Paul shares his role in helping increase capabilities across companies and teams.

Paul shares that there are two elements of capability. It's intrinsic capability; who we are and what we offer, what we offer our customers, and then there is the potential capability of what we can become in that space.

To achieve one's potential, it's important to get uncomfortable. "You gotta get out of your easy chair and you gotta step forward and make a difference."

Mary Nollenberger: Overcoming Life's Obstacles With God08 Sep 202200:40:23

Mary Nollenberger is an award-winning business person of the year and has been named one of the most influential leaders in the real estate industry. She is also a counselor for her church, a wife, mother, and grandmother — and whether it's in business or life, Mary demonstrates what it means to lead with service and how to overcome life's obstacles by realizing that in God's eyes, we are enough.

What we discuss in this episode:

As a highly-competitive individual, Mary shares that her past has helped her realize the importance of celebrating victories and slowing the pace from time to time. Of course that's a realization that is often only made after seeking the next mountain to climb, or the next project to embark on. The hindsight is 20/20, and Mary offers her wisdom that in order to effectively serve others, it often requires us to slow down and focus our strength and energy into where it will have a lasting impact.

Mary shares about times when she lacked confidence in herself — something that so many can relate to. Whether it's from insecurity or comparing ourselves to our peers, insecurity is common. As Mary explains, insecurity is also something we can overcome.

"I don't have a history with addiction, or things that people would associate with celebrate recovery. I am a grateful believer in Jesus. He is helping me to overcome the comparisons that fuel my insecurity by giving my heart the promise that to him, I am enough."

Ty Nollenberger: Developing The Grit To Succeed01 Sep 202200:45:16

In this episode of Keep The Change, Bart is joined by his oldest son, Ty Nollenberger — an entrepreneur and owner of a successful cafe and coffee shop. During their conversation, Ty shares his story about creating a successful restaurant business in California.

What we discuss in this episode:

  • Ty shares the story about how he got into the restaurant business, which all began as a 15-year-old working as a bus boy at a restaurant. After years of serving, bartending, and attending culinary school twice, Ty worked to learn each facet of the business before venturing on his own. This is a critical piece to achieving success. Are we willing to put in what it takes, or do we fall victim to the need for immediacy that often plagues our society?
  • When it comes to developing the grit necessary to do hard things, Ty recommends that it should start by being self-aware and honest with yourself. What do you want in life, and what do you have a passion for? When we can figure out and admit those things, life tends to fall into place much more naturally. We can remove obstacles and have enough persistence to push through them.
  • Movement creates clarity. We rarely find ultimate clarity by remaining sedentary. As we take action and move closer toward what we want, the goals and process for achievement become much clearer.
