She enjoys the challenges of geriatric patients and feels the Lord has called her to work with the very frail and fragile patients who are in the "November and December" of their lives. She has served in the past as president of the Texas Geriatric Society. She currently serves as the Medical Director for Windcrest Health and Rehab and she is one of the physicians for Hospice of the Big Country. But Dr. Sandy wears other hats besides her "doctor" hat. She also has participated in and taught Bible lessons for Ladies' Retreats in those countries. One of her greatest joys has been the experience of taking her grandchildren on short term mission trips during the past 18 years to Zambia, Russia, China, Cambodia, and Romania. No Apologies: Andrea Bain on Learning to Travel Solo
Épisode 4
mercredi 3 juin 2026 • Durée 32:52
In this inspiring episode of The JourneyWoman's Ageless Adventuress Travel Podcast, Kathy Buckworth sits down with Andrea Bain — TV host, author, podcaster, and co-host of the award-winning national talk show The Social on CTV — to talk all things travel. From growing up in a family where annual vacations were non-negotiable, to solo adventures in Morocco's Atlas Mountains, Andrea shares how travel has become her greatest reset, her creative fuel, and her most powerful act of self-care. If you've been waiting for a sign to book that trip, this episode is it.
Takeaways
Stop waiting for the group chat, if no one can come, go anyway. Solo travel is freeing, not lonely.
Slow down. Stay longer in fewer places. Shop local, eat local, talk to people. That's where the real trip lives.
Travel is a mental health reset, not a luxury. Andrea's rule: one trip a year, or else.
Don't let other people talk you out of a destination. Do your research, find a guided group if needed, and go.
Unplug on purpose. Airplane mode from takeoff to landing, photos only, no scrolling.
Spend on experiences (tours, excursions, cultural moments), not souvenirs you'll never use.
Pack carry-on only. Roll clothes like a crepe, max three pairs of shoes, bring detergent strips.
Compression socks and a facial mist are non-negotiables on any flight.
If solo travel feels scary, start small, a solo dinner, an overnight in your own city. Baby steps count.

Radio Icon Erin Davis Isn't Waiting For Permission: Travelling Solo at 63
mercredi 15 juillet 2026 • Durée 39:43
In this candid and deeply moving episode of The JourneyWoman's Ageless Adventuress Travel Podcast, Kathy Buckworth sits down with Canadian broadcasting legend Erin Davis: 30-year veteran of Toronto's CHFI Morning Show, bestselling author, and co-host of the podcasts Drift and Gracefully and Frankly, to talk about what happens when you finally stop waiting. At 63, Erin spent four months living solo in Mexico, navigating a new language, a cartel lockdown, and her first real taste of independence after a lifetime of putting everyone else's schedule first. From singing karaoke in Spanish to staying calm while the news cycle panicked on her behalf, Erin's story is proof that grief, age, and uncertainty don't have to be the things that keep you home.
Takeaways
You don't need to be single to travel solo, you just need to stop waiting for your partner's schedule to clear up.
Pack a little of the language before you pack your bags. A few words of courtesy go further than a phrasebook ever will.
Skip the glossy tourism site, local Facebook groups and expat pages give you the real, unfiltered lay of the land.
A tour company isn't a crutch, it's a buffet: you get the luggage help, the insider access, and the hotels you'd never have booked yourself.
When news breaks about danger in a place you're visiting, listen to people who are actually there, not just headlines and always listen to what local authorities tell you to do.
Don't wait for "someday." Bodies change, knees give out, opportunities close. If it's on the list, go now.

The "Indiana Jones for Girls": Alice Morrison's Solo Adventures in Morocco, Saudi Arabia, and Africa
lundi 3 août 2026 • Durée 40:48
In this episode of JourneyWoman's The Ageless Adventuress Travel Podcast, host Kathy Buckworth talks with adventurer, writer, and TV presenter Alice Morrison, joining from her home in Morocco's Atlas Mountains. Alice shares the story behind her recent world-first expedition — becoming the first recorded person to walk the length of Saudi Arabia, north to south — including what it was like to be treated as an "honorary male" while walking with an all-male crew, and how that unusual status let her also connect with local women in a way no male explorer ever could. The conversation moves through her childhood in Uganda, her earlier career in journalism before she "quit the rat race to join the bike race," and why she believes travel doesn't need to be extreme to be transformative. Alice and Kathy talk candidly about what it's really like for women over 50 to travel solo in traditional societies, how discomfort on the road builds real confidence, and the power of letting people tell their own stories.

About Our Guest
Alice Morrison is an adventurer, TV presenter, and writer who has spent the last decade-plus turning "furthest place on earth" ambitions into world-first expeditions. Born in Edinburgh in 1963 and raised for her early years in Uganda, she went on to study Arabic and Turkish at Edinburgh University and build a long career in journalism, including roles at BBC News and BBC Arabic, before leaving her corporate career in 2011 to cycle 12,500 km from Cairo to Cape Town. An experience that became her first book, Dodging Elephants. She went on to move permanently to Morocco and rack up a string of world-first expeditions, including the Atlas-to-Atlantic trek, the length of the Draa River, and a multi-year trilogy across the Sahara and Atlas regions that became her book Walking with Nomads, runner-up for the 2023 Edward Stanford Travel Book of the Year. Her most recent milestone, completed in December 2024, was becoming the first recorded person to walk the full length of Saudi Arabia, north to south. She now lives full-time in Morocco's Atlas Mountains, continuing to write, speak, and produce her own podcast, Alice in Wanderland.
Latest books: Walking with Nomads and Adventures in Morocco.
