To help support this podcast, you can go to our website, thisisjogon.com for the JOG ON running kit.

We’d really appreciate if you can give this show a review wherever you’re listening or watching.

After a fairly sedentary lifestyle of smoking and very little exercise, at the age of 40, Mark Symes began running.

Soon realising that he possessed an ability to run fast, he focussed on the track, and eventually found himself competing in both European and World Masters Championships in the often turbulent 800 and 1500 metre finals.

I sat down with Mark at his home in Southern England, to discuss his journey from 40 to now and how great running in later life is something that we can all aspire to.

Jogging Shorts Ep 20 - Why did Rosie Ruiz cheat the Boston Marathon?21 Sep 202000:10:50

VIDEO: https://youtu.be/6DOncIeJ7mM

On April 21 1980, Rosie Ruiz was awarded first place female at the Boston Marathon.

8 days later, she was stripped of that title after it was declared that she had cheated, and in fact had only run the final mile of the race.

40 years later, I wanted to understand how and why Rosie had done this.

My sincere thanks to writer Will Cockerell and broadcaster Toni Reavis for their authority and input on this fascinating story.

Ep 54 - Will Cockerell. Is the JOGLE world record a lie?11 Sep 202001:24:44

Dan's time: 9 Days 21 hours

In May 2002, the John O'Groats to Lands End record was taken apart, by a man named Andi Rivett. But 18 years later, one man has some questions about this extraordinary feat.

After an introduction from previous guest and ultra runner Chris Finill, Harry meets with Will Cockerell. Will is a wonderful marathon runner, journalist and author of the book 'The 50 Greatest Marathons of All Time' and a huge authority on the sport. Will gives a detailed analysis of the 2002 record and why he holds some doubt over its validity.

We reached out to Andi RIvett and Ivor Lloyd for comment, but heard nothing back.

The man who only started running at 80. Richard Brisley. Ep 7721 Mar 202400:39:04

At the age of 80, Richard Brisley took up running.

I found myself in Richard's living room to find out what made him begin running at 80 years old. Richard has a unique perspective - we talk about his running highlights, the accident that stopped him running for a while, and his memories of World War 2.

As the oldest guest to ever appear on JOG ON, this conversation was a real privilege. Richard demonstrates that later life doesn’t have to always be done sitting down or even walking.

We'd be grateful if you could recommend the JOG ON Podcast to a running friend to help us grow.
