JobsWorth - Leanne Reardon

mercredi 5 novembre 2025Durée 01:24:23

My guest on JobsWorth this week is Leanne Reardon, founder of Flow State Office.

Leanne is on a mission to help business founders find their state of flow - but unlike so many people peddling a similar message, she’s honest about the fact she’s still searching for hers.

Secondary school left her directionless and demotivated (something many of you might relate to), yet a stroke of serendipity during work experience led her to discover a role filled with meaning and purpose. Unfortunately, restructures and redundancy forced her to recalibrate what work would look like going forward. We talk about grief and the trauma that period still carries for her.

Leanne’s second act began after a life-changing retreat that led to her first role outside local authority work - and acted as the catalyst for the path she’s on today. Hers is a story of resilience, having the courage to try something new, and trusting your intuition.

We dig into what Leanne means by seasons in your business, explore the importance of setting boundaries and building self-trust, and consider why - in an age where our brains are constantly bombarded with information - introducing systems in both our work and personal lives is more important than ever.

Please enjoy… Leanne Reardon.

JobsWorth - Keith James

mercredi 29 octobre 2025Durée 01:20:57

On this week’s episode of JobsWorth, I’m speaking to artisan bike mechanic and founder of Essex-based Stow Velo, Keith James.

Keith is a self-confessed bike geek, and despite me being very clearly out of my league when it came to discussing anything more technical than how many wheels they have, his passion for the craft and cycling culture was truly infectious.

Since relocating to Leigh-on-Sea with his family, Keith has been on a mission to nurture and support the growth of the cycling community- and if he can get me seriously contemplating sliding into some Lycra, it’s only a matter of time before we’re all joining his monthly social rides.

Keith is a creative at heart, and if the dots between that and “bike mechanic” don’t immediately connect for you, just wait until you hear about the many strings to his bow.

We find out where his obsession with bikes came from, how his love for cycling led him to work in product and apparel design for some of the industry’s biggest brands, and I ask whether all bike messengers working in London are a little bit mad. (The answer won’t surprise you.)

We also discuss the reality of picking up your young business, leaving your original customer base behind, and starting again somewhere new.

Please enjoy… Keith James.

JobsWorth - Lucy O’Brien

mercredi 20 août 2025Durée 01:28:46

My guest on JobsWorth this week is Lucy O’Brien, Director of Essex based creative agency, Social It.

At just twenty three years old, Lucy has already built a reputation for helping brands and businesses of all shapes and sizes share their story and in turn, raise their profile.

We learn about Lucy’s time in private education and how her experiences helped to shape the woman she is today. We talk about the universal struggle most people feel navigating college when they really have no idea what they want to do with their lives and we also find out how Lucy landed an opportunity that would change everything.

Lucy is reluctant to label herself as a social media specialist despite Instagram playing a big role in her day to day work with clients. After having this conversation I can understand why.

She is, first and foremost, a storyteller. It’s her ability to connect with people, not to understand an algorithm, that sets her apart...and she's just getting started.

Please enjoy...Lucy O’Brien.

JobsWorth - Samantha Ford

mercredi 13 août 2025Durée 01:37:44

This week’s guest is Essex based tattooist and Director of Silver Needles tattoo studio, Sam Ford.

As a second generation tattooist it’s safe to say that the art form is quite literally in her blood and she’s seen a whole host of changes over the course of her twenty year career.

We talk about some of them as well as finding out what led Sam to start an apprenticeship in the first place, how she found working with her Dad, her thoughts on some of the stereotypes surrounding the industry and why the past couple of years have been particularly tough for tattooists in general.

I ask Sam what it’s been like running her own studio for the past seventeen years, get some insight on how she strikes the right balance between work and life and find out about how she expresses herself creatively outside of the studio (the answer might surprise you).

Stick around for our game at the end and apologies in advance if one of your tattoos are featured (ffs don’t sue me).

Please enjoy...Samantha Ford.

JobsWorth - Bee O'Dame

mercredi 6 août 2025Durée 01:09:24

On this week’s episode of JobsWorth, I’m joined by Hair and Makeup artist, Bee O’Dame.

Bee certainly knows how to make an impression. From the moment she walked in to record the podcast, she quite literally lit up the room. She’s someone who exudes confidence, isn’t afraid to be herself, and will quite happily show someone the door if they’re not willing to accept who she is. And in a world where so many of us pander to other people’s perceptions of how to act, what to wear, or who to be… it’s really bloody refreshing.

But building the confidence to be yourself takes hard work, and in Bee’s own words, she’s made a lot of mistakes. Fortunately, she’s also learned from them.

Bee is a doer. She makes sht happen. She, in all the best possible ways, is a force of nature, and over the years (two careers, four kids, and a twenty-year relationship with her husband Vic), she’s worked a lot of sht out.

We explore her early passion for fashion, how she built a successful career for herself in the city, and why she stepped away from it to raise her family and begin again in a space where she could let her creativity flourish.

We talk about red carpet events, zombie movies, the impact of YouTube, the power of saying yes to opportunities, learning as you go, and Bee’s view that confidence comes from capability.

Please enjoy... Bee O’Dame.

JobsWorth - Ben Nichols and Alice Skeats

mercredi 30 juillet 2025Durée 01:20:41

This week on JobsWorth, I’m sitting down with Ben Nichols and Alice Skeats, co-founders of Re:Made.

Ben and Alice are a couple from Essex, and theirs is a love story that started like so many others in the twenty-first century – on Bumble. After meeting during the pandemic, and despite the not insignificant hurdle of lockdowns and social distancing, their relationship blossomed. Then, a little over two years ago, Ben had an idea.

We explore what happened next: from the creation of their first prototype product to the celebration of Re:Made’s second birthday a few weeks ago.

Ben and Alice give an honest account of what it’s like growing a business as a couple, the sacrifices you have to make when choosing to pursue a passion, and we also discuss when it’s the right time to make a side hustle your full-time gig.

As well as creating a brand that has already become synonymous with high-quality products and incredibly happy customers, Alice and Ben have also built a community. If their early success is anything to go by, it’s clear to see that they’re just getting started.

Keep an eye out for a very special guest at the start of this episode  He loved it, I promise.

Please enjoy... Ben and Alice.

JobsWorth - Anneka Lange

mercredi 23 juillet 2025Durée 01:18:36

On JobsWorth this week, I’m joined by Leigh on Sea based sign writer, illustrator and artist, Anneka Lange.

Since moving to Leigh from the West Country seven years ago, Annie has become the go to person for anyone looking to have a piece of artwork adorn their shop, office, building, boat, bedroom… oh, and basketball court.

We explore what it was like growing up in Cheltenham with a family of creatives, how she honed her craft at university before landing her first ‘proper’ job with a well known brand, and the importance of working alongside people who give you opportunities to push your limits.

Annie also shares what brought her to this part of Essex, how she landed her first client after arriving, and why- despite being a super busy working mum of two- she’s got her sights set on developing a side project fusing her love of art, sport and clothing.

Whilst you might sometimes see Annie up a ladder, on a scaffold or somewhere in the vicinity of her trusty toolbox, she’s rarely found in front of a camera- so the team and I feel super honoured that she said yes to coming on and sharing her story.

Please enjoy... Anneka Lange.

JobsWorth - Charli Davies

mercredi 16 juillet 2025Durée 01:28:11

JobsWorth is back and this week I’m speaking with Charli Davies, Director of Do It Like A Mother.

Prepare yourself for a very real, very open, very raw conversation about all things motherhood and parenting.

With  Do It Like a Mother, Charli and her team are building a movement.  A community where mums are free to share their experience without fear of judgement. A safe space to say out loud that amidst all the joy and magic of parenting, it’s also really bloody hard.

We talk all about unrealistic expectations, the pursuit of perfection and the myth of motherhood as well as shining a light on the potential negative impact of prescriptive parenting advice.

Charli also shares how her childhood dream of becoming a journalist led her to a successful career in TV and radio and how her priorities shifted after having kids.

Whether you are in your parenting journey, this is a powerful listen.

Please enjoy...Charli Davies. .

JobsWorth Express - Chris Whitley

mercredi 9 juillet 2025Durée 43:22

JobsWorth Express returns this week as I speak with Founder of Figure 8 Consulting, Chris Whitley.

Based in Cornwall, Chris is living up to most of the Cornish stereotypes you can imagine. Yes he’s got a camper van and spends loads of time at the beach with his family but he’s also on a mission to help organisations develop the clarity they need to deliver change in the best way they can.

In this episode we explore what motivated him to start his own business not long after having his second daughter, how he balances building a consultancy with being a hands on Dad and the importance of prioritising work life balance early on.

Chris’s story is super relatable and a good reminder that you don’t need to know EVERYTHING to get started…you just need to start.

Please enjoy...Chris Whitley.

mercredi 2 juillet 2025Durée 01:02:35

Over the course of his 50+ year career Peter has created work for the world’s most iconic publications-think GQ, Rolling Stone, Time, Esquire and many more.

His origin story is one filled with hard graft, quiet perseverance, and learning to back his own ability- with a bit of right-place-right-time luck and a truckload of talent thrown in.

As well as running through Peter’s impressive list of credits we also explore what led him into teaching and the impact he’s had on his students, including me. How the tools of his trader have evolved over the years and where he developed his incredible sense of style.

Make sure you stick around until the end for a very special game called ‘The Gallery’. All will be revealed.

Please enjoy...Peter Knock.
