Players like Jared Goff and Corey Seager are currently playing at top levels in their respected sports, yet prospects in baseball out sell Seager and Goff’s market doesn’t come close to a player like Justin Herbert. This is a very special episode because joining us today is Olympic medalist and creator of Medalist Breaks Clayton Murphy. Clayton is the perfect person to talk to when it comes to not only everything related to the hobby, but especially when it comes to F1 card collecting/investing. Clayton gives you great insight into the lesser known world of F1 cards. F1 cards are new to the hobby so there’s a lot to learn not just about the sport, but how the F1 card market stacks up to other professional sports in the states!

This episode John and I had to talk baseball even though week 1 of football is starting. September baseball is one of the most exciting months in all sports. We have witnessed Bryce Harper and Giancarlo Stanton hit milestone home runs. We have teams like the Cubs and Mariners battling for their division title. We also have players making their case for MVP honors. Oh yeah and a prospect called JASSON DOMINGUEZ was called up by the Yankees! Sorry football but you have to wait another week because baseball is hot right now!

We both go over the benefits of using a consignment company that utilizes eBay auctions vs consigning with Goldin, Heritage, or PWCC. Another National Sports Collectors show is in the books! John and I wanted to recap this years National, and give you our opinion of the show compared to 2021. We highlight the cards we managed to pick up, the cards we were able to sell, and took a look ahead at this upcoming football season!

This weeks episode, John and I elaborate on a topic we mentioned in the previous episode. I asked John if a players stats during the season truly has an impact on the market? We both wanted to dig a little deeper into this question because there are many different factors that can help drive the markets. Factors like hype, player success, team success, and even FOMO can all play a major role in whether or not a players prices will go up or down. However, is there one factor that outweighs the rest? Find out what John and I discussed in this episode!

This episode is all about the new MLB Top 100 Prospect List! This list is a great research tool when looking for players to collect and invest in. John and I go over some of the current markets for both players on the list and players who didn’t make the cut. Don’t be blinded only by the top prospects though! Take the time and truly look for the value across all 100 players. You never know which player might be a sleeper investment that no one else is seeing!

This episode is different from our typical sports/trading card topics. For the first time on the podcast, Jeli Cards enters the world of comic book collecting! We were lucky to have comic book collector Komikz98 join us for this episode, and she’d his knowledge of all things comics! Comics are fun to read, but can also make you money in the future. You might not make that instant profit like you can with sports cards, but collecting the right issues can benefit you greatly in the long run. Patience is key here!

This episode is all about hockey cards, and how they are undervalued compared to sports like Football, Basketball, and Baseball. We were lucky enough to have hockey fanatic and collector Hockey Town John join us for this weeks episode! His knowledge of not only the sport, but the untapped market that is hockey cards is why we had to bring him on the podcast. He gives his version on why hockey cards aren’t as sought after in the hobby, and gives us a couple players that he’s currently keeping his eye on. From Young Guns to Future Watch, there’s value to be made in hockey that’s potentially just sitting there at your local retail store. This episode John and I discuss how the hobby seems to have gotten away from being a collectors hobby to more of an investment opportunity. Retail product has surged in both the amount of cards printed and how much the product costs today versus what it use to cost a few years back. With the increasing prices of retail product, is it even worth buying anymore? Do hobbyists still buy into sets because they want to collect the cards or do they buy with the intent to resell the cards at a later date? Find out what John and I have to say in this episode!

This episode is perfect for new hobbyists or anyone looking to help grow their business! John and I discuss where to start if you’re new the collecting cards. We used our own examples when we formed Jeli Cards that we thought would be important key topics. The hobby can be overwhelming at times especially because there’s money to be made in just about every sport. However, finding your niche is the most important task you need to accomplish first! What is it that you want to collect? If you try to invest in every sport out there, you may find yourself overwhelmed by the vast amount of cards that just aren’t valuable. We highly suggest you pick a sport and focus solely on that until you gain enough of a profit to venture out. Mistakes will happen which we have plenty to discuss, but always remember it’s the thrill of collecting that kept this hobby alive!

Sports card breaks and TCG breaks have taken the card hobby to a level it’s never been before! Collecting and investing into cards has changed because you no longer have to invest into wax in hopes of pulling a specific player or team. Card breaks give hobbyists the opportunity to invest their money a little bit more wisely without breaking the bank for some of these expensive hobby boxes. Breaks are both entertaining and a great way to meet new hobbyists! There’s no right or wrong answer in which is the better investment: wax or breaks? It all depends on the route you want to take!

John and I discuss on this weeks episode whether or not modern Pokémon sets are still worth the investment in terms of resale value. Pokémon cards have played a prominent role in card collecting which is why the vintage sets/cards are so valuable in the current hobby market. However, will the newer modern sets accrue the same value over time? Find out what we think in this weeks newest episode!

The new Netflix show “King of Collectibles: The Goldin Touch” inspired this new episode! John and I are both avid collectors, and a show about collecting definitely didn’t help our desire to buy more cards! This episode John and I discussed the show and what this series might do for the collectibles hobby in the future. Goldin Auctions is arguably the best consignment based company in the hobby industry, and this series highlights why! From game used jerseys to rare sports cards, Goldin invites us into their world. Goldin Auctions has given hobbyists the chance at life changing money, which ultimately will help keep this hobby alive!

John and I have differing opinions on this topic which made for a great discussion! We both see the benefits from either choice you make as long as you’re profiting from the product or card. However, it truly is the million dollar question you have to ask yourself. Quick flips can be a great way to make consistent profit while you continue to grow your business and/or personal collection. Career holds, however, have the potential to give you the biggest return you will ever see on that card! If you have the patience and trust in the player you’re investing in, holding a players card until they become a star can be very beneficial. Either way there’s really no right or wrong answer to this question, you just have to decide what’s more important to you!

Social media can be a great distraction from the real world, and it has played a major role in the Card Hobby! The hobby may not be where it’s at today if it wasn’t for businesses and influencers promoting cards and their markets through informative and creative content. Social Media stars like Card Collector 2 and Leonhart have inspired other hobbyists to chase their dreams within this hobby. They are allowing hobbyists like ourselves to be able to build our Jeli Cards name, and hopefully one day we can do the same for new collectors! This episode John and I discuss the role social media has played, and why we think it has helped keep this hobby alive.

This episode John and I discuss the various selling platforms you could use to list and sell your card collection and/or card investments. We at Jeli Cards primarily use eBay to sell our cards, but we have also used platforms like WhatNot, Instagram, Goldin Auctions, and we have even sold cards at card shows both as a vendor and customer. Each platform has its own advantages, but you need to find the one that best fits you and your hobby goals!

This episode John and I go over some the hottest markets in baseball right now! Opening Day is a great time to start selling some baseball cards, but you have to do your research to see which markets are trending up. Whether you are selling prospects who just got called up to the big leagues, or selling a returning player looking to keep their momentum strong, the start of any season is a great time to sell! We have talked a lot about “investments” but never discussed who we can be selling. John and I dedicated this episode to that exact topic!

Unless we wanted our previous episode to be over two hours long, John and I dedicated two episodes to the NFL and the football card market! The new NFL Panini Prizm set was released, and we are already seeing that market sky rocket! However, is there truly a player worth investing in that set? Kenny Pickett and Brock Purdy are great options, but are they worth the hundreds or thousands of dollars just for one card? Also the new set of Bowman U Chrome could be a potential great buy because this year the product is now licensed! Are these 1st Bowmans worth buying or will this just be a quick flip set? Sit back and relax while John and I give you our thoughts on the market!

What a whirlwind of an off-season so far in the NFL! The Chicago Bears have been already making big moves especially trading their #1 draft pick and acquiring DJ Moore from the Panthers. Aaron Rodgers resurfaced from the “Darkness” and has now publicly stated he wants to play for the New York Jets. The Baltimore Ravens gave Lamar Jackson the non-exclusive tag so maybe we will see him on a brand new team this coming season! It would have been difficult for John and I to discuss every move so far, but we made sure to give our opinions on the biggest headlines in the NFL. We also debate which quarterback in this years offseason could potentially be the best “investment” for the 2023 season!

If you enjoy baseball as much as we do, and want to collect more baseball cards, prospecting is a great way to do that! The MLB has a top 100 list of prospects, and that list is a great way for you as a collector to do your research on the future stars of baseball. However, don’t fall victim to only focusing on the top players. If you take the time to throughly look through that list, you can find those “diamond in the rough” players! John and I go over our top prospects for this coming season, and break down their stats so far in the minors. We also inform you of their current card markets and show you the major difference between a player in the top 10 vs a player in the 70s and higher.

If you are a collector of Topps products, they had their 2023 industry conference so John and I discuss some of the major takeaways from that. Topps will not be releasing certain sets this year such as Opening Day and Topps Gold Label, but they are bringing back Big League Baseball! Tom Brady will also have his first ever Topps card printed this year and that may include autos as well! John and I also give you our do’s and dont’s of the hobby. We wanted to highlight some key points that our group has done which has helped continue to grow Jeli Cards.

Happy Super Bowl week! This episode John and I discuss the upcoming matchup between the Chiefs and the Eagles. We give our predictions for the game and who we think will take home the win! Also we debated which quarterbacks in the NFL could make it to a Super Bowl game in the future. John and I didn’t choose the obvious choices so this definitely made for an interesting topic!

This episode John and I give our opinions on the career Scott Rolen had in the Majors. We discuss his success in the MLB, and why other players with similar stats were passed up on prior ballots. We also talk about the 2024 ballot, and the players we believe have Hall of Fame worthy careers. Players like Todd Helton, Billy Wagner, Adrian Beltré, and Joe Mauer have made large enough impacts during their time in the bigs, so will they get voted in next year?

We also highlight Justin Fields second year in the NFL, and whether or not the Bears should trade him and draft Bryce Young.
