Our wardrobe is a key factor in achieving this and should reflect our unique personal style & brand, as well as accentuate our bodies, and make us feel comfortable.
As a fashion lover and accredited media at The One of A Kind Spring Show Toronto’s ladies night, it was wonderful to watch The Fashion Show proudly displaying the latest styles, colours, fabrics, patterns and trends. Wardrobe therapy!
More inspiration and wardrobe ideas came from my interview with fellow fashionista Lauren Mair, owner of ELLEMAIR CO - a clothing company that is made with passion and soul and promotes that you love your fashion, but not at the cost of our planet, animals, or people.
We discuss her philosophy, creative and artistic background that she incorporates into the beauty and versatility of the down to earth, bohemian duster statement pieces she produces from recycled and vintage pieces in vivid fabrics. Each can be dressed-up or down, worn alone or as an accent piece to make your soul happy every day, even while traveling Sign up to become a member of Janette's TV Youtube Channel!

| Trailer- Art & Fashion from The One Of A Kind Spring Show Toronto, featuring Artist Morgan Jones | 12 May 2023 | 00:00:29 | |
Regardless of how you define it, art is something that is created with imagination and skill and that is beautiful, expressing important ideas or feelings. It’s interpretive, surrounding our homes, offices, streets, and cities, and thus, a significant part of our lives.
While covering The One Of A Kind Spring Show Toronto Ladies Night as accredited media, I met Mixed Media Toronto-based Artist, Morgan Jones. His unique tea party complete with his ballerina model and work immediately caught my eye. I just had to interview him!
We talked about his former career as Director of Sales for a large consumer electronics company, how he became a self-taught full-time artist, and why. How he’s inspired by the casual observation of people and life around him, and how his work is constantly evolving. The multi-step process he uses to create his art, his keen eye for texture and composition, coupled with a whimsical flare, Morgan creates works that are aesthetically engaging while also evoking a visceral response in the viewer.

| Trailer- Abuse & Codependency: Alice, Darling, Starring Anna Kendrick; Live from TIFF Red Carpet Premiere | 05 May 2023 | 00:00:44 | |
Have you stayed longer than you should have in an abusive relationship due to codependency? Do you recall being anxious all the time without being sure why?
Filmed in Canada, Alice, Darling, Oscar-Nominated actress, Anna Kendrick (“Alice”) captures the anxious psychology of a woman in an abusive relationship as her friends try to reconnect with her while on a cottage getaway.
When Alice is invited on a cottage trip to celebrate her friend’s birthday, she feels like she has to lie to her charming and successful boyfriend, Simon (Charlie Carrick), telling him that it’s a very important business trip. Her longtime friends, played by Kaniehtiio Horn (Letterkenny) and Wunmi Mosaku (Lovecraft Country) want Alice to enjoy their time together, but she just doesn’t seem present. With Simon continuously texting her, it becomes clear that she’s being closely monitored by him and her phone turns into an overbearing conduit for emotional abuse. Once they realize what’s happening, Alice’s friends try to convince her that her relationship isn’t normal, but she continues to doubt herself, constantly modulating where she goes or what she eats, unable to disconnect from Simon, even though she knows she’s unhappy. As the weekend progresses, not only their friendship hangs in the balance, but also Alice’s safety. The women become entangled in a psychological tug-of-war with Simon, who continues his attempts at excising Alice from those closest to her. Written by Alanna Francis, returning to TIFF 2022 after 2019’s The Rest of Us, and intelligently realized by Mary Nighy, Alice, Darling captures the apprehension and dread that haunt victims of domestic abuse. Nighy’s direction puts particular focus on the little details that serve as warning signs and, coupled with a meticulous performance from Kendrick, she creates a tense atmosphere that serves as a unique portrait of psychological manipulation and one young woman’s effort to overcome it with the support of her friends. As accredited media, I was at their TIFF 2022 red carpet premier to talk to Nighy, Noah Segal (co-president at Elevation Pictures Corp), Kendrick (who in part accepted this role after being in her own abusive relationship for over 6 years), Francis, and Carrick about their roles, the importance of bringing this story to the big screen, and lots more! | Trailer Fighting for Who You Are & What You Believe In - The Movie Sidney documenting the late, great Sidney Poitier. | 28 Apr 2023 | 00:01:10
Whether you marched in the civil rights movement, personally experience, or know a visible minority who continues to experience racism in our society today (sadly, incidents of crimes against humanity, discrimination and racism are still reported regularly), Sidney is a documentary portrait of the late, great Sidney Poitier. Produced by Oprah Winfrey & Derik and directed by Reginald Hudlin (House Party, Boomerang, Marshall), this piece showcases his films, life story, and litany of accomplishments as an artist and activist who forever changed what it means to be Black in America. Poitier’s own words provide the narration of his life. Woven together is a rich mix of archive footage and contemporary interviews with a stellar group of interview subjects — from the late cultural critic Greg Tate to Halle Berry, Denzel Washington to Spike Lee, to Barbra Streisand, and Oprah. Poitier’s contemporaries and the holders of his legacy detail just how extraordinary his rise was, from early failure at the American Negro Theater to Oscar-nominated roles in films like The Defiant Ones, to becoming the living, big-screen embodiment of America’s hopes for racial justice. Poitier’s rise to stardom occurred in tandem with his commitment to social change, marching for civil rights with Martin Luther King Jr., and helping to usher Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun, a milestone in portraying Black American experience, from Broadway to the big screen. Watching signature scenes from his films, getting a glimpse of rare footage from his life beyond Hollywood, and seeing how pivotal his life and example has been for so many of today’s icons, it’s clear that there never was and never can be a figure quite like Sidney Poitier. The movie premiered at TIFF 2022. I was there as accredited media working the red carpet. It was an honor to speak with Reginald, and see in-person Sidney’s wife & daughters, Oprah, Tyler Perry, and Gayle King relay the power and impact of Sidney Potier, who paved the way for them. | Lioness - How Far Will You Go to Protect Your Child? | 21 Apr 2023 | 00:05:19
It’s a topic few want to speak about. Yet, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience severe intimate partner physical violence that often tears them and their family apart with serious scars.
Barricaded in a motel room, the multi award-winning short film Lioness, now streaming on Omeleto, tells the story of a mother’s determination and primal instincts to protect her child's innocence with only one line of dialogue.
Partially inspired by a true event, Lioness, is a moving and powerful look at the bonds of parenthood in a frightful situation.
As an accredited media sponsor at the 2022 Vaughan International Film Festival’s Short Film Screening, I caught up with Sara Oliva: Actress (playing “The Mother”), Writer, and Producer of the movie to talk about why she created the film, the rise in domestic violence since COVID, how many times it takes to leave an abuser, how far a mother will go to protect her child, and much more!
This film is a must-see for anyone who has personally experienced or knows someone who has been the victim of domestic violence or abuse. There is help, and a way out. You’re not alone! | New Episode Trailer: Danielle Kaplan, Author of the Book I Married A Thrill-Seeker: A Cautious Wife’s Memoir of Her Husband’s Risk-Taking and Their Long Road to Recovery. | 10 Feb 2023 | 00:01:08
As we continue to honor Valentine’s Day and all things LOVE, this week’s episode features the amazing story in first-time author, Danielle Kaplan’s book, I Married A Thrill-Seeker: A Cautious Wife’s Memoir of Her Husband’s Risk-Taking and Their Long Road to Recovery. For fans of memories of trauma and recovery and for anyone living and loving a risk-taker, comes one man’s struggle to overcome a one percent chance at survival as told through the eyes of his wife, his high school sweetheart, who was his greatest ally. The book recalls the tale of Danielle’s type-A and adrenaline-junkie husband, Stephen Kaplan — former CFO and CEO of Deciem Beauty Group — as he sets off to take one last solo road trip on his motorcycle, from Toronto, Ontario to near Fairbanks, Alaska. Danielle knows it’s the last ‘adrenaline rush’ trip he’ll take on the bike–he’s promised to give it up for good.
On the other hand, Steve expected to make it home with no drama, no unnecessary risks, just the freedom of the open road and the wind on his face. But after hitting a pothole while driving at a high speed in rain at dusk, it’s the ending neither of them dreamed of when he crashes on a remote highway in the Yukon, he can’t move, and its hours before he can receive medical treatment.
In this candid interview, Danielle and I sat down to discuss how this event changed her, her husband’s and her children’s lives in an instant, how she came to terms with Steve’s adrenaline-junkie antics & found an appreciation for it amidst having to make unbearable decisions, experiencing miraculous moments, how as a former speech pathologist she became her husband’s greatest advocate - fighting by his side the entire time, through every step forward and step back as Steve regained his health and lots more in what can only be described as a true testament of luck, love, and incredible fortitude given Steve’s injuries that left him with a less than one percent survival rate. | Love, Sick – A Story of Toxic Love | 02 Feb 2023 | 00:06:16
Happy February! In honor of Valentine’s Day, this month, our episodes are focused on all things LOVE. This includes love that isn’t always good for us. As is the case in the short movie, Love, Sick – A Story of Toxic Love, Written, Produced, & Directed, by the Emmy and Webby award-winning, Christopher Klimovski. I had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing ‘Klimovski’ as he prefers to be called, in Vaughan, Ontario, at The Vaughan International Film Festival’s, International Short Filming Screenings where Love, Sick premiered. Have to admit, the film was chilling to the core. And I wouldn’t expect anything less from Klimovski. Have you been through a painful breakup and experienced heartbreak? Or ever missed someone so much that you felt sick? What about a strong sense of yearning for a person who didn’t feel the same way? Then you know that this experience is real and hurts. Love, Sick the movie takes this feeling up a notch. The story centers on two people who want to be together, and simply can’t without destroying each other. But not for the usual, cliché reasons. Klimovski and I chat about what provoked him to make this movie and explore the dark and very toxic side of love. Sign up to become a member of Janette's TV Youtube Channel!

It stars Gabriel LaBelle as Sammy, alongside Michelle Williams, Paul Dano, Seth Rogen, and Judd Hirsch in supporting roles. The Fabelmans had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, 2022, where it won the People's Choice Award. | In Memory of a Passionate Fundraiser - My Conversation with the Late Mark Mendelson, CEO of BGU Canada at Ben-Gurion University Toronto’s The Future Is Now Gala, Featuring Actor Michael J. Fox | 23 Dec 2022 | 00:15:00
This November, I interviewed the late Mark Mendelson, CEO of BGU Canada at Ben-Gurion University Toronto’s The Future Is Now Gala Featuring Actor Michael J. Fox. Although it was our first-time meeting, Mark’s fundraising in Canada for Israel-based institutions and other successes as a leader in the Jewish Community was evident. Sadly, he suddenly passed away in Montreal at the age of 73, just days after the event. Mark served as the CEO of Ben-Gurion University Canada for the past 12 years. Previously, he was the executive director of the Jewish National Fund (JNF) for Eastern Canada for 17 years. Known for his signature navy blazer and moustache, his love of family, good food & wine, art, cooking and entertainment, Mark had a larger-than-life personality. His work and devotion to BGU Canada was also apparent - having expanded its presence across Canada and increasing the amount of money raised. Despite the limitations of the pandemic, Mark recently reported to supporters that the organization had had a record financial year. Making BGU, Israel’s youngest university in the developing Negev Desert, become better known in Canada, became Mark’s true mission. Mark shares how BGU transformed into a dynamic university becoming Israel’s fastest-growing university at the forefront of medical research & development with its Medical Simulation Building, enrolling over 20,000 Jewish, Palestinian & Arab students each year, the impact its research has on autism, and much more!

| Sextortion – The Hidden Pandemic & What It’s Doing to Our Youth | 11 Nov 2022 | 00:24:45 | |
Last month, justice was finally served for Amanda Todd, the Canadian teen who took her life in one of the most high-profile Sextortion cases on record. It was unsealed for the first time in 1091 Pictures global release, timed to Mental Health Awareness Month in the global TVOD/digital release of Auroris Media’s inspirational, fast moving, and timely feature documentary Sextortion: The Hidden Pandemic from director, editor & producer Maria Peek, p.g.a. (“I Dream of Dance,” “Third Grade”) and producer & cinematographer Stephen Peek, p.g.a. (“Unacknowledged,” “Renegade”). Amanda’s mother and other victims also speak in this film. In this Janette’s TV & Janette’s TV Podcast episode, Janette sits down with Stephen & Maria Peek to discuss what sextortion is and how it is affecting our youth and how the film merges true crime with an empowering educational opportunity that provides families with essential ways to keep their children safe on the Internet. The filmmakers experienced Sextortion in real time through one of their children’s classmates, and it inspired them to be the change they want to see in the world. With a rapidly moving running time of 85 minutes, you will be engaged and inspired to help save kids around the globe once you watch this documentary. Premiering at this year’s Santa Barbara International Film Festival as part of the Social Justice Feature Documentaries, and recently through the Spotlight Docs Series (a 501c3 that the filmmakers founded), along with the film came a recently completed sold-out 20+ city educational tour around the U.S. (to audiences of over 5,000 people), where the filmmakers, and Federal agents who ran the landmark case (declassified for first time in this film), have been onsite to experience the emotional and powerful moments—where victims and victims’ families spoke up during the post screening Q&A’s. They have over 200 additional requests across the globe asking for an educational screening series in their cities. The EU Parliament and The Pentagon have begun planning screenings with the filmmakers for later this year and into 2023. The case featured in the film was declassified by (HSI) right before its release, comparable in scope to the case featured in the critically acclaimed “Spotlight.” It’s important to note the difference between human trafficking (cases in the hundreds of thousands), and sextortion (cases in the tens of millions) – as sextortion is 1,000 times more prevalent and is often the precursor to trafficking. 1 in 4 kids are affected or know someone who has been affected by sextortion. Through partnerships with the Department of Justice and Homeland Security, the filmmaking team had unique unrestricted access to all government documents for an international sextortion case of a Top Gun pilot with hundreds of victims, unsealed for this film for the very first time. By interviewing survivors and their parents, this true crime piece exposes this fastest growing crime against children, the tactics of online predators, and the voices of parents and law enforcement poised to stop online child exploitation in its tracks. | Straight from its TIFF Red Carpet Premier Gala - Tyler Perry, Ryan Eggold & the Rest of the Cast of Perry’s New Netflix Movie, A Jazzman’s Blues, with a Surprise Visit from Oprah | 14 Oct 2022 | 00:15:36
Playwright, Producer, Director and Actor Tyler Perry’s latest epic, A Jazzman’s Blues, is now streaming on Netflix. It was the first screenplay he ever wrote over 25 years ago. Set in Georgia, it stars actors Ryan Eggold (“Dr. Max Goodwin” on the NBC series, New Amsterdam), Joshua Boone, Solea Pfeiffer, Amirah Vann, and Austin Scott in a story of forbidden love and family secrets that stretches from the 1940’s to the 1980’s. Throw in the couple’s forced separation, “Leanne”, the female lead passing herself off as White & marrying a prominent White man, her mother “Ethel”, played by Lana Young, a tantalizing murder-mystery spiked with dazzling musical numbers choreographed by the legendary Debbie Allen, music composed by Aaron Zigman, and a nod to the Holocaust in “Ira”, Eggold’s character; and you have another testament to Black American music, resilience and storytelling that is very different from Perry’s previous comedic works. A Jazzman’s Blues also explores the shared experience between American Blacks & Jews and their strong connection during the Civil Rights Movement, reminding us that love conquers all, including racism. Hailed for his humanity, Perry transformed himself from flat broke and sleeping in his car to one of Hollywood’s foremost screenwriters and comedians, reaching Billionaire status. As Accredited Media, I had the privilege of attending A Jazzman’s Blues TIFF Red Carpet Gala to chat with Perry about why making this film was on his bucket list, how it might just be the mark of a new chapter from him and how his faith & conviction carried him through. I also spoke to the rest of the cast about what attracted them to their roles, and the movie’s meaning & purpose. One of Perry’s best friends, Oprah Winfrey, even dropped by. | Ukraine vs. Russia – The Inside Scoop with Ukrainian Filmmakers Serge & Nathalie Velbovets | 29 Sep 2022 | 00:09:56
I met Film Director & CEO Serge Vebovets of VELBIX FILMS and his lovely wife Nathalie Velbovets, both of whom immigrated to Canada 11 years ago from Ukraine, while interviewing & filming at The Vaughan International Film Festival. A riveting conversation ensued where I mentioned that my grandparents who hailed from Poland, Romania, Kiev and nearby towns, fled Ukraine between 1917 and 1921 to escape the Jewish Pogroms (when the USSR expelled its Jewish population). This led to a discussion on the current war between Ukraine & Russia and what Ukrainians have been experiencing for months on end. Although widely covered in the media, there are some things that have not been reported. In this interview, Serge & Nathalie give me an inside account of what their families, friends & filming crew deal with daily. They also share their perspectives and the world’s support and continued support of Ukraine, what more can be done to end the war, as well as on Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s leadership. | BOLD & BEAUTIFUL: CANADIAN ACTRESS KIM ROBERTS RECEIVES THE VAUGHAN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 2022 INDEPENDENT LEADERSHIP AWARD | 25 Aug 2022 | 00:08:28
If you’re a fan of Schitt’s Creek, The Handmaids Tale, The Saw III, The Saw IV, Rember, PawPortal, Killjoys, The Tuxedo, Degrassi: The Next Generation and Working Moms, you’ll instantly recognize the very bold, beautiful, and talented Canadian Actress Kim Roberts, winner of The Vaughan International Film Festival 2022 Independent Leadership Award. She’s one of the hardest and longest working Canadian Black actresses in Canada with an extensive list of impressive and diverse roles. Kim was also the first Black Actress to receive a speaking part in a commercial in Canada in the 1990’s. Yes, that’s how long it took! Because sadly, when Black actors and actresses make headlines, it’s not always treated well. Such as with the announcement of Ncuti Gatwa as the 14th Doctor in Doctor Who, the first Black doctor; Moses Ingram receiving abuse, forcing Star Wars co star Ewan McGregor to defend her; and Steve Toussaint being forced to defend his appearance on Game of Thrones for being a Black character in a house that is seemingly only allowed to be white. Kim and other Black actors’ achievements should be lauded, not treated as a surprise that they were able to do it because they were Black. Janette caught up with Kim at The Vaughan International Film Festival Gala awards to talk about her big win, her illustrious career with its highs & lows, reversing Roe vs. Wade, and what’s next for her. If you’re a child of the 90’s, you must remember the iconic sitcom F.R.I.E.N.D.S starring David Schwimmer (Ross Geller), Courteney Cox (Monica Geller), Jennifer Anniston (Rachel Greene), Matthew Perry (Chandler Bing), Matt Leblanc (Joey Tribbiani), and Lisa Kudrow (Pheobe Buffay) that ran for Thursday nights for 10 seasons, on NBC. Created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman, the series followed six young men and women residing in the same apartment complex and how they faced life and love together in Manhattan, New York City. Constantly sticking their noses into each another's businesses, as well as sometimes swapping romantic partners, the group always got into the kind of comic situations that most other people never deal with, especially during breakups. | EQUAL PAY & THE FUTURE OF FOOTBALL With MAGGIE MURPHY, CEO, LEWES FC | 29 Jul 2022 | 00:31:37
In this Janette’s TV and Janette’s TV Podcast episode, Janette sits down with Maggie Murphy who was General Manager of the Lewes FC Women’s Team from 2019-2021, then elected to CEO of Lewes FC in 2021. Lewes Football Club was founded back in 1885 and is located in Lewes, East Sussex, England where Maggie joins us from. In 2017, they launched the ground-breaking Equality FC campaign that saw Lewes FC become the first (and currently only) club in the world to have equal playing budgets for women and men. Maggie sheds light on the history of Women & Football (Soccer) and how The FA Cup began in 1871. Women started playing in 1891. The Football Association banned women’s football in 1921 when the first Women’s FA Cup was played and didn’t reinstate it until 1971 (because they considered women’s football to be ‘unsuitable for a woman’s frame’, and ‘quite inappropriate for most women’). The 50-year ban allowed men’s teams to grow to the popularity they are now, while women were stunted from reaching the same level. Find out how she and Lewes FC are changing it and how you can play a part. Sign up to become a member of Janette's TV Youtube Channel!
