I emphasise the importance of recognizing these traumas and offer practical strategies for healing, including self-awareness, language shifts, and journaling.

How To Start A Pension For A Child30 May 202200:24:51

This week on the In Her Financial Shoes podcast, I am exploring how you can make how you can make your child a mini-millionaire with the use of pension investments for children.

In 2017, Age UK conducted some research that showed 74% of people rely on the state pension for their sole income in retirement. A report conducted by 7IM showed that most people rely on a lottery win to ensure their comfort on retirement.

Pensions are a topic very close to my heart and after changes in pension legislation in the early 2000s, access to pensions is a lot more flexible, making it a better consideration for investment. It is hard for children to understand why they need to think about the future so join me today and find out how we can set them up for retirement from birth.

In this episode

  • How to set up and start a pension for a child
  • Why we need to take one step today to make your child a multi-millionaire by the time they reach retirement age
  • Busting myths and self-limiting beliefs around pensions
  • Why pensions are not just a retirement vehicle but can also be used to start investing and utilising the compound effect to grow long-term sustainable wealth
  • The benefits of helping children understand investments from a young age

How Feminine Energy Helps Attract More Love and Money02 May 202200:46:38

In this episode I am joined by leading international dating and relationship expert, Sami Wunder. Join us as we talk about how feminine energy and embodiment really helps us to attract more love and money into our lives.

Making money has traditionally come from a place of very high masculine energy. If you wanted more money, you had to work harder. In shifting my energy to more of a feminine energy, I have been able to focus on the end result to my clients rather than on the money. My relationship with money has therefore experienced a shift as I step more into a balanced energy.

If we want change and to make changes that last, we need to step into a place of trust and give ourselves time and space to allow it to happen.

In this episode:

  • What is feminine energy
  • Getting the correct balance between feminine and masculine energy
  • How to change your relationship with money by balancing your energy
  • Why we hold fear around vulnerability

Grandpa's Fortune Fables: How to Have Conversations with Kids About Money28 Feb 202200:38:31

Joined by Will Rainey, the founder of the financial education platform bluetreesavings.com and the author of the children's book, Grandpa's Fortune Fables.

In this episode, we are talking all about kids and money. I'm often asked questions such as "should I give my kids pocket money?", "How can I pass on a good relationship with money to my kids?", and "How do I teach my kids about money?"

This is a really important subject, so Will and I get stuck into some of the best lessons to teach your kids about money.

About Will's Book: Grandpa's Fortune Fables

When Grandpa Jack was a young man, he went on an adventure to a faraway island in search of gold. Whilst he was on the island he discovered 'The Three Rules of Wealth'. These rules helped him to become a very wealthy man.

As Gail shares her Grandpa's adventures, your kids will learn:

  • The difference between being 'Rich' and being 'Wealthy'
  • How to earn money
  • The importance of saving their money
  • How to grow their money (investing)
  • That patience is the superpower of the wealthy
  • Why they should avoid gambling, scams and (bad) debt

Your kids will also have to try and solve Grandpa's Mystery Code as they answer short questions to recap on what they have learnt throughout the book.

In this episode:

  • What is the most important lesson to teach kids about money?
  • Do the lessons we teach vary based on age?
  • The 3 rules of wealth: save then spend/plant the seeds you keep/be patient.
  • Will's view on pocket money.

You're Not Broken – Break Free From Trauma & Reclaim Your Life

How to Feel Okay to Earn More Money14 Feb 202200:20:19

I really wanted to get stuck into what money trauma is and some of the emotions around money, as well as how to feel okay to earn more money. How do you heal money trauma?

Society tells us that we should try to 'get rid' of negative emotions such as fear, shame, regret, guilt, responsibility, and anger, when actually all emotions are important.

Rather than trying to get rid of those emotions or money blocks, I actually recommend leaning into the emotions and money blocks in order to lean into and Step Into Wealth®.

In this episode:

  • Catherine's personal experience of money blocks while growing her wealth.
  • Trauma responses we experience that affect our ability to Step Into Wealth®.
  • How to learn to feel into our emotions and lean into them.
  • A self empowering tool you can use to heal money trauma.

Money Grows on Trees: From Broke to Woke07 Feb 202200:37:28

This week I speak with Jerremy Newsome, host of the podcast "Broke to Woke" and author of the book "Money Grows on Trees". Jerremy is an investing guru and is on a mission to enrich people's lives with mentally liberating education.

We speak about investing and some of the common emotional blocks that come up around investing, such as fear and greed.

Many of us as women don't even believe that investing is possible for us. This is a really important conversation for us to be having as women, if nothing else to do the work in normalising the idea of women investing. If we want to start growing our wealth and Step Into Wealth®, we need to include investing in those plans.

In this episode:

  • Jerremy's story of investing from age 7
  • Why we need to normalise women investing
  • How to include investing in your wealth plans
  • Why it's easier not to grow wealth, but simple to do!

How to Make Better Financial Decisions31 Jan 202200:19:48

In this episode, I take some time to talk about how to make better and easier financial decisions.

Traditionally at this time of year, it is a time to pause and reflect on the past year but also on what we want for the year ahead. I love to get curious around my vision, what success looks like for the next 12 months and also pick a theme for the year ahead. Last year my theme was growth and as we move into 2022, I am focusing more on expansion.

In today's episode, I share a wonderful expansion exercise that will really get you thinking about your goals and whether they are truly aligned to your values and intentions. What tends to hold people back is the high expectations that we put on ourselves and this exercise helps you to really look at all sides of the decision-making process to help avoid becoming overwhelmed and giving up.

In this episode:

  • Journaling prompts to get you thinking about your own goals and intentions without the influence of others
  • Why becoming overwhelmed with decisions is rarely about the money
  • How considering the full picture before making a change can help you hold onto the plan throughout the year
  • Sometimes there is a reason for not making a change, known as a secondary gain
  • Think about the context of your life when goal setting and consider how they fit with you rather than being guided by the lives of others

How to Expand Your Vision: Get Clarity, Confidence, & Abundance03 Jan 202200:17:33

In this episode, Catherine is looking at the power behind getting clear on our financial future and why expanding your vision is the key behind this.

Often, we find that we are limited by fear – fear of success and fear of failure. We don't believe in ourselves, that we are capable of achieving and therefore do not even begin. We perceive this fear of failure as shame or embarrassment and Catherine shares why it is so important to focus on the emotional benefits of a financial goal rather than just the assets it will create.

Today's episode is a practical one. As well as sharing one of her favourite chapters from Glennon Doyle's book Untamed, Catherine also shares an exercise from her own best-selling book It's Not About The Money so grab a pen and paper to really implement the changes in life to help you step into your wealth.

    In this episode:

    • Questions we can ask ourselves to begin expanding into our life's vision
    • Why we need to consider the change that we want to see in the world, even if it feels completely unattainable
    • The difference between deep level desires and surface level desires and the impact that both have on our ability to get clear on our goals
    • It is time to release the limiting fears and believes so that we can really step into wealth

The Self Deserving Loop: Step Into Wealth®20 Dec 202100:21:49

The self deserving loop is a perpetual cycle of deserving and undeserving that prevents us from really stepping into wealth and leaves us flip flopping between the idea that we deserve to receive money but are not worthy of receiving.

Money is a tool that helps us to create financial freedom but often, as women, we are left with the feeling that it is wrong to want or receive money. Wrapped around this cycle is all of the emotion that we attach to money making it incredibly hard to break the loop of feeling deserving and self sabotage.

I share some top tips that you can use as you start to think about what next year will look like in your life and business, and that will help you with your beliefs around deserving so that you can step into wealth in 2022.

    In this episode:

    • Think about why you feel the way you do and bring awareness to your core beliefs around money
    • Why you should know the purpose for the money that you are wanting to receive and how to realise those desires
    • How strong boundaries can help prevent you from falling into the self deserving loop
    • Are there any beliefs, relationships or even projects that you need to let go of to prevent the self sabotage
    • Why your intuition is a powerful alarm system that will keep you safe without dropping you into the self deserving loop

    In this episode:

    • Trauma impacts how we communicate in relationships around money
    • Why processing and working through emotions will help both mentally and physiologically
    • The importance behind understanding our own needs as well as the needs of each other
    • Why you should set the scene for how and when you would like money conversations to take place

Book Launch Week: Guilt & Debt Shame: It's Not About The Money12 Dec 202100:11:47

This week has been a rollercoaster of emotions!

Today I explore more around guilt and shame including shame around debt.

Not all debt is bad and yet we are trained from a young age to think that we should "get back in the black", that negative numbers are always a bad thing. The importance of addressing these emotions, and in particular shame and guilt, can have extraordinary results on your creation of wealth, moving you forward to a place of empowerment and sustainability.

    In this episode:

    • How we can get stuck in a continual debt cycle because of shame
    • Why money is not about who you are
    • We attach the emotions to ourselves using the phrase "I am…"
    • Putting your own needs before others was not selfish but in fact enriching
    • Only you will know when the right time is to let go of the emotions around money

Sharing another chapter from my new book, around the emotions of money.

Money is one of the biggest causes of stress and divorce in this country. I explore why we need to tackle the emotion before we can take the practical steps towards becoming a wealthy woman.

    In this episode:

    • In order to step into wealth, we need to feel wealthy before we become wealthy
    • What are the consequences of holding onto these emotions around money?
    • The chemical release of emotions makes its presence known in the body and it can be physically damaging

In this episode of It's Not About The Money podcast (formerly the In Her Financial Shoes podcast) I cover how to stop self sabotaging in order to make more money.

The reason that we self-sabotage is that it feels safer for us to procrastinate, say no, and not get visible. All of these behaviours I talk about come from a place of safety. And so the aim of self-sabotaging behaviours is not to remove them, the aim is just to recognise them.

    In this episode, I cover:

    • What are the biggest self-sabotaging behaviours
    • How to recognise when you're self-sabotaging
    • How to clear the negative emotions that come up
    • What you can do differently
    • How to create consistency and stability in your business

Book Launch Week: Self Worth: It's Not About The Money10 Dec 202100:14:00

I am passionate about helping you to be self-empowered, to no longer bury your head in the sand and continue on a path of self-sabotage. Being a wealthy woman is not about how much money you have in your account.

Today I am talking about the first steps to changing your money narratives.

    In this episode:

    • Why stepping into your money narrative will bring awareness to then be able to move forward with wealth creation
    • Taking the hard step of looking at who or what you need to forgive
    • Why sometimes we need to be given permission to make the necessary changes
    • How taking time to look at your money story will help you to identify the emotions, behaviours and habits that underpin your money story
    • Why we must look back to look forward

Book Launch Week: Levels of Enoughness: It's Not About The Money09 Dec 202100:12:13

Today I celebrate turning 40 and launching my first long-awaited book, "It's Not About The Money".

This book really means a lot to me. It is an amalgamation of the last few years of my best work and it feels surreal to finally get it out to the world.

The book is for anyone who struggles with money, from over savers to over spenders and all those in between. For our official launch today, head over to itsnotaboutthemoney.co.uk and you will have access to some extra bonuses.

    In this episode:

    • We operate beliefs and behaviours from one of the three levels of enoughness and these underpin our money stories
    • Why you need to separate who you are from what you have
    • What are you really seeking when you desire more money?
    • We imprison ourselves with money shame for longer than criminals serve jail sentences
    • The definition of limiting belief

Book Launch Week: Deserving Wealth: It's Not About The Money08 Dec 202100:10:40

In this special episode, I share another excerpt from my upcoming book "It's Not About The Money", launching tomorrow.

Deserve is the first step of three in the book and explains the science behind why we need to change our money narrative before we can create financial freedom. We need to feel deserving before we take the practical steps in wealth creation.

    In this episode:

    • If we don't feel good enough, we fear that we won't have enough
    • Why the things we hear as a child, between the ages of 0-6, create our core beliefs and can have a lasting impact on how we behave later in life
    • The definition of trauma
    • Why we need to separate money from our sense of self worth
    • How a misalignment between money beliefs and what is true will create a dissonance
