This week, we are in Nelson, BC. And if that wasn't exciting enough, we are bringing you this podcast episode from the slopes of Whitewater Ski Resort! After a year of immense loss (Liz's parents passing within six months of each other and saying goodbye to our beloved family dog), the Deacle family re-grouped and set off for a month in British Columbia, Canada, in search of some much-needed family time, happiness, love, conversation, and togetherness. To make this possible, they are house-swapping. They have traded their Skoda and lovely one-level countryside home in Taranaki, New Zealand, with a family in Nelson, BC, and they now have THEIR car and THEIR beautiful Canadian wooden home in the mountains for a month. Did Canada deliver what Liz and Brian were looking for? Did Bri ever get to finish what he was saying? Why did Liz go up on the chairlift on her own and cry? And WHY aren't husbands born with psychic powers?? PS: Listen to the end to find out! LOVE YOU GUYS!! HAPPY 2025!! xx

| Americans Living in New Zealand. What The First 6 Months Are REALLY Like | 03 Mar 2022 | 00:52:14 | |
Living in New Zealand. What The First 6 Months Were REALLY Like. In this week's show, we are happy to welcome back Maile and Brian! This American couple left the US almost six months ago to start a new life in Dunedin, New Zealand. They are happy with their decision (in fact, I have never met two people so in love with a country) but their journey certainly wasn't all plain sailing. Enjoy! Americans Living in New Zealand. The Highs (& The Lows). If you are moving to New Zealand from the USA then you will love this show. No one can predict how they will feel when they move to another country. Maile and Brian certainly never expected to experience the flood of emotions that came within the first few months of arriving in New Zealand. The thing that I love about this couple is their ability to talk things through. They are so very transparent. This openness is a gift to everyone out there thinking of making the same move to New Zealand. How We Met Brian and MaileLast year, Maile had emailed me to say that she was thinking of moving to New Zealand and could I put her in touch with any other nurses who were doing the same. Back then, we hadn't started the private New Zealand community that we now have, but I emailed Maile back and told her that I was about to do a podcast interview with Katie, a nurse who was in the process of moving to Dunedin. A month or so later, when Brian and I created our NZ Ahead Membership Package (Formerly Moving to and Living in New Zealand Package), I contacted Maile and Brian and asked them if they'd like to join. They did and the rest is history! A few months later Maile and Brian moved to Dunedin and in December 2021 Brian and I flew down to spend a few days with them. The Importance of surrounding Yourself With like-minded People.
Maile is a valuable and very treasured member of our private community (that we affectionately call the NZ Slackers!). The help that she offers to new arrivals and those thinking of moving to the country is priceless. Maile goes that extra mile to help people (she has just helped Emil, a nurse from the Netherlands, land a job in the same hospital as her, he and his family will move here in a few months!). It is so very exciting to watch as people come together and help each other realise their common dream of moving to New Zealand. | The FEARS Around Moving to New Zealand | 18 Feb 2022 | 00:41:23
There's a quote that I love: 'If it were easy then everyone would do it'. This week, we are excited to share with you an extra special show. Wherever you are on your New Zealand adventure, whatever stage of the game you're in, this episode will put to rest those niggling fears and doubts and help you to understand that the thoughts that you are having are all part of the package. Completely normal. And usually unjustified. Remember. If it were easy then everyone would do it. A little back story...Last week I received an email from a guy. It said: 'I want to make the move to NZ but to be honest, there are so many fears that hold me back from pursuing my adventure, I can't ever see me making it.' I am very grateful to that man for sending me that email as it gave me the idea for this week's show. And hopefully, he will go on to listen to this show and realise that he is not alone. I reached out to our NZ private community and asked our members to share their biggest fears when it came to moving to NZ. Here's what they came up with. Moving to New Zealand Fears. | 8 Strange Laws in New Zealand (That make PERFECT sense) To Us. | 26 Jan 2022 | 00:32:10
It's true. There are some strange laws in New Zealand. But not nearly as strange as some of those found in other countries. Take Mexico for example, it is illegal to kiss on the street in Guanajuato, while in the USA it is against the law to sell Kinder Eggs at the grocery store! If you are moving to New Zealand or plan to travel to New Zealand when the borders open, then you are going to LOVE this show. You will discover three weird laws that have been passed in New Zealand and then learn about five more laws that Brian and I are considering taking to Jacinda for consideration. If you are thinking of moving to New Zealand from the UK (or elsewhere for that matter) and are concerned about a few things you may miss, you are going to really LOVE this show! Last week, Brian and went on holiday. We stayed in a suburb of Dunedin called Port Chalmers. We loved it. Not only were we are away from the kids that never stop eating and the lawn that never stops growing, but we were able to explore one of the most beautiful parts of New Zealand. It was during this time in the South Island, that we realised there were some things, things that we'd been longing for these past twelve years, were right here under our noses. Imagine that. | 2021 What a Year... Behind The Scenes With Liz & Brian | 23 Dec 2021 | 00:25:19
This is the last podcast of the year and we wanted to make it personal. So here we are! Behind the Scenes. In the bedroom. To be honest, we could have made this podcast very easy. We could have just sat there and said thank you over and over again. That would have summed up our feelings for you right now. But because we like to natter over cherries we also go into the things that scared us the most this year, how we tackled them and where we are now. Wherever you are in the world Brian and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you. So very, very much. Without you, we wouldn't keep going. You are a star. You are amazing. | Lame or Lush? The Truth About New Zealand Food | 15 Nov 2021 | 00:45:07
New Zealand food. Not exactly the most talked about cuisine in the world. Why? Is it because the kiwis are ashamed of their national nosh or are they hiding something from the rest of the world? When we made our move to New Zealand from the UK twelve years ago, I wasn't expecting much in the way of food. Maybe a few lamb chops and a packet of butter. A glass of milk at a push. How wrong I was... Would You Like To Join Our Private New Zealand Community? Are you Considering Moving To New Zealand and are desperate to know what life in New Zealand is (really) like? At the end of the series, you will be offered details of how to become part of our inspiring and growing community of New Zealand loving members! What Makes New Zealand Food So Special? Like everything else in New Zealand, the food is rather underrated. Which is a shame as it leads people to believe that the New Zealand food is either boring and not worth mentioning, or is so weird that it must only be eaten by people who reside in mud huts and cook dinosaur eggs. (One of the many misconceptions about New Zealand). People in our private New Zealand community will often ask, is the food in New Zealand better? That's a tricky one. It depends where you come from and what you class as better. I am from England and although this doesn't apply to all food, I'll stick my neck out and say that the majority of New Zealand food is waaay better than the UK. In this week's podcast episode, we talk about 13 Foods in New Zealand, including:

Regardless of whether you are moving to New Zealand or planning to visit when the borders open, there are a few crucial things you should know. Like what NOT to say in New Zealand. Brian and I thought it would be fun to share seven kiwi BIG no-no's in this week's show. That way, when you eventually get off the plane in Aotearoa, you can get on with the good stuff. It's such fun researching new countries, especially such wondrous places like New Zealand. Before you arrive in the land of the long white cloud, there are a few essentials that'll make your experience easier—learning a bit of the New Zealand slang, for example—knowing your chooks from your chocks. Getting a sneak-peek into typical New Zealand people; finding out what makes them tick. All that kind of stuff. But what about the things that you SHOULDN'T do?? What if you ask a question in a busy kiwi bar and suddenly hear a pin drop? Gulp. In this week's podcast episode, Brian and I talk about:

| Typical New Zealand People. 4 Stereotypes (That May Be Getting Old) | 19 Oct 2021 | 00:36:15 | |
If I were asked to describe what typical New Zealand people are like, the last word that would come to mind would be 'rugged'. Yet, apparently, according to the people on the washing line, this is a label that goes hand in hand with the folks down under. In this weeks show, Brian and I thought it would be fun to take four of New Zealand's national stereotypes and discuss whether we found them to be true... Just WHAT Are They Up To Down There?I can just picture it. A bearded bushman with a wild pig slung over his shoulder. Returning home to his wife (who is making scones with one hand and shearing sheep with the other). 'Throw that on the Barbie love and while it's cooking I'll neck a few tinnies with the boys...' Did I ever mention to you that, twelve years ago, I got cold feet about moving to New Zealand? It's true. I had visions of turning up to the country and finding men who spent hours drinking and polishing their fishing rods and women who wore blue overalls. Luckily I put my big girl pants on and went ahead with our plans. And while some things (like learning the New Zealand slang) took some getting used to, I am happy to say that I am yet to meet any troglodytes.

| Living in New Zealand. 7 Things That (STILL) Baffle Us! | 14 Oct 2021 | 00:27:18 | |
You'd think that after living in New Zealand for 12 years we'd have adjusted to the kiwi ways. And we have. To most things. But not all. We moved to New Zealand from England in 2009 and it was the best move that we have ever made. We have raised our kids in a country that embraces innovation and creativity, and have been warmly welcomed by the wonderful New Zealand people. But. There are times when we are reminded that this is not Kansas. That we still need to work a little harder to truly fit in. Whenever these seven events show up in life down under, we realise that try as we may, we are still adapting to life in New Zealand. Here are the seven culprits that still baffle these two slow learning brits... Would You Like To Join Our Private New Zealand Community? | Behind The Scenes #6. Feeling Fear. Having Courage | 11 Oct 2021 | 00:36:49
It's on days like this that I tend to reminisce. Go back in my mind ten years to when Brian was working in his plumbing and heating business and I was at home with kids, doing my best to provide them with a rounded education. Through my rose-tinted glasses, I see a calm and harmonious family who had a regular wage popping through the door every week. A life where the mother felt no need to put herself onto Youtube and make big fat mistakes in front of the world. And then I take the glasses off and wipe them. And I remember that fear was always present. There was the fear of some stuffing up my kid's life by homeschooling them. Fear of Brian drowning in the pool of stress that filled his fifty-hour workweek. Fear of using cling film when the whole world had adopted that rubbery Honeywrap organic stretchy stuff. Fear of doing things differently. Fear. Loads of fear. This week's podcast was made to inspire you. To encourage you to move forward with whatever it is you are doing. Even if (especially if) that thing is causing you to wobble and shake. Last week a friend reminded me of the Mark Twain quote: Courage is not the lack of fear. It is acting in spite of it. Another quote that I shall be using often came from my husband, Brian Deacle Have courage. Trust in yourself. Enjoy. I know that you are going to love this episode. | Is New Zealand NEGLECTING These 7 (Essential) Life Skills? | 07 Oct 2021 | 00:36:13
New Zealand is often referred to as being, 'like England was fifty years ago.' At first, I wasn't sure what this statement meant but after living in New Zealand and witnessing the life skills and the values that New Zealand people work hard to retain, the expression became a whole lot clearer. Are They Being Lost in New Zealand?A survey compiled by Melbourne's Monash University found that New Zealand families would like their children to be taught basic life skills in school. But what are the feels down on the ground? (Sorry, trying to sound cool but it failed. I promise not to do it again). In this weeks show we thought we would give you our opinion on whether we think the New Zealand people are retaining (and passing on) valuable life skills to the younger generation or if they are watching helplessly as the good stuff gets washed down the drain. In this week's podcast episode on New Zealand Life Skills Brian and I talk about:

Oh, joy. Just when you think you have everything sorted. Just when you think that you have all of your baby duckies lined up neatly in a row, something goes and changes. A big wet scary towel is thrown over you and your head is you find yourself being yanked pulled along with the flow. I just wanted to make this absolutely clear before you listen to this weeks Behind the Scenes Podcast. What may sound like a very calm and easy-going mother talking to her up-in-the-air-daughter is actually a woman whose mind is filled with jumble, fear, excitement, pride, and worry. | Living in New Zealand With Food Allergies | 23 Sep 2021 | 00:42:55
Yesterday I was asked by a member of our private community, 'Is the food in New Zealand better?' While this is a huge topic (and those who know me will have probably guessed my answer), I said it would depend on where you are comparing it to. Compared to the UK, yes, I think that the food in New Zealand is better. It tastes more 'real'. Don't ask me to define real because I can't. Sorry. Let's just say it hits a different spot on the taste buds. After talking to this community member for a while I discovered her reason for asking the above question. She had severe food allergies and was trying to gauge what life in New Zealand would look like. In this week's show, I talk to Jenn Morris. Jenn is from the Youtube channel, A Thousand Words. She emigrated to New Zealand over a decade ago and she has various food intolerances and allergies that she lives with.

So...Is The Food in New Zealand Better? If you are thinking of moving to New Zealand and you have an allergy or food intolerance, your big question will be how you will cope. Is the food in New Zealand better?
In this week's episode Jen shares: How she didn't have any of these food intolerances until she moved to New Zealand and what that looked like. How she copes living in a (very) small town in regards to her special dietary needs. Grocery shopping in New Zealand. Eating out with her special dietary needs. Whether she thinks that food in New Zealand is better.

| Behind The Scenes #4. Why we REALLY Left The UK | 21 Sep 2021 | 01:09:06 | |
Last week, when I received an email from a listener from the Middle East. (The fact that we have people listening to us from the middle east blows my mind with excitement but that is a different story). Here is a snippet of what it said: "One second thing is the reason why you guys decided to move abroad. I am from the middle east so everybody want to move away from here. It is really interesting for me to listen to a westerner moving abroad".
After reading this email it suddenly struck me. How one person's ideal country is another person prison. Maybe prison is a tad harsh but it is late at night when I'm writing this and I can't think of the correct word so let's stick with Why WOULD anyone want to emigrate from the UK? And while we're at it, why would anyone want to leave New Zealand and live in Australia or England? Why on earth would anyone consider leaving beautiful, gorgeous France to live in America? But they do. Every single day.
I know that you are going to love this episode. Let me know by leaving a comment on my blog or sending me a quick email at liz@itsadrama.com I read and reply to every single email.
Hello and welcome back to episode 4 of It's a Drama Behind The Scenes Podcast.
In this podcast, Brian and I talk openly about:
When we agreed that staying in the UK was not an option The fear of making mistakes and how we tried to 'make do' with what we had. Money. Loss of money, making money, spending money. We've done it all. Why are some people are happy to stay put in the same house for the rest of their lives? What is it? What is that burning desire to up and move your family to the other side of the world?

It's all over the news. The team of five million are unbeatable. You don't have to look far to find someone singing the praises of the New Zealanders. But are the New Zealand people as kind as the world is led to believe? And if they are so friendly what makes them so? Or is all this kindness stuff a big fat cover-up to keep the MIQ staff in a job? We kick off the series with our gorgeous teenage (and usually very private) daughter talking about being seventeen. Tessa talks about: Life: Typical problems that she (and other teenage girls) are facing and how she tackles those hurdles. Homeschooling: Friends, staying motivated. | (more) Unwanted news | 22 Nov 2024 | 00:13:41
We thought the sad news was over. Had floated away like water under a bridge. Babble, babble, babble. Brook, brook, brook. No more crying into a microphone. No more looking worried. No more sorrowful recalls. But no. I'm sorry to say that this week's episode is a sad one. The floodgates are open once more. This episode was so very hard to record. But record it, we did. Because it is important for us to be honest with you. Transparent. Real. You grant us the space to be who we are, to share everything that life throws at us. Both good and bad. You have given us your trust. And for that, we love you. So, as hard as it was to make this episode, it felt right to do so. We hope you feel the same. Thank you, my friend. Thank you for allowing us, once again, to lean on you this week. We love and cherish you. Liz and Brian x

| Fitting into New Zealand. (As told by a real kiwi bloke). | 19 Aug 2021 | 00:35:30 | |
If you are moving to New Zealand there are things you'll want to know. Like how to fit in and get along. And who better to answer that question than a true, born and bred New Zealander. Today we are thrilled to be chatting with Gordy. A real kiwi bloke. Would You Like To Join Our Private New Zealand Community? Fitting in in New Zealand If you are considering moving to New Zealand you will be as desperate as we were to learn as much as you can about the country. You will have many, many questions. Some of them, people like us can answer for you. We have been living in New Zealand for twelve years, and we can share our honest trials and tribulations on what living in New Zealand looks like. In this week's show, we talk to a fifth-generation New Zealander. A real kiwi bloke. Gordy shares what being a kiwi in New Zealand looks like. He gives us a few valuable pointers as to what he thinks new immigrants need to follow in order to make it in New Zealand - to feel right at home. Gordy also explains the meaning behind the acronyms (used by many kiwis), G.O.Y.A. And F.O.R.D This show is a lot of fun and if you are considering moving to New Zealand or if you are already living in New Zealand and are finding it hard to settle, you will love what this show offers.
New Zealand Kiwi Just to be clear. We are not talking about New Zealand's national bird, the kiwi. We are also not referring to the green fury thing called the kiwi fruit. When we say New Zealand kiwi we mean the common self-reference used by New Zealanders. The term kiwi (which is not considered offensive) is viewed as a symbol of pride and endearment for the people of New Zealand. It can be confusing, I know. The best advice I can give you is to brush up on some New Zealand slang before you arrive in New Zealand - that way, you won't feel like a numnut!

| Why is New Zealand SO Expensive? (Or is it?...) | 12 Aug 2021 | 00:32:14 | |
Why is New Zealand so expensive? Is everything in New Zealand expensive? Why do things cost so much in New Zealand? These are questions that we hear a lot from people overseas. So in this week's show, we thought we'd share seven things that we found to be far cheaper in New Zealand than in the UK. Now then. I bet you weren't expecting that were you...? Would You Like To Join Our Private New Zealand Community? Are you Considering Moving To New Zealand and are desperate to know what life in New Zealand is (really) like? Do You LOVE New Zealand & dream of moving here one day? Sign up HERE, and I will send you my FREE Moving to and Living in New Zealand Guide. A 5 Part Video Series! Why is New Zealand So Expensive
If you are moving to New Zealand from the US (or the UK like us), money will be at the forefront of your mind. The biggest question we get from our audience (apart from what tea do you drink) is how does the cost of living in New Zealand compare to that of the UK or the USA? Moving To New Zealand. The Cost.If you are thinking of moving to New Zealand, you will be familiar with the price tag that comes as part of the package. While New Zealand is by no means reserved for the wealthy (we wouldn't be here if that were the case), the cost to live in New Zealand is something that is by no means cheap. House prices in New Zealand are rising at a rate of knots, and if you are considering living in Auckland, then you will need a very well paid job. Or a sugar daddy. But. You know me. I like to remain optimistic. And some things in New Zealand cost far less and will leave your pockets feeling pleasantly fuller than when you were back home. | Swapping America For New Zealand | 30 Jul 2021 | 00:47:19
If you are considering moving to New Zealand from the US then you will love this week's show. Two weeks ago, our guests found themselves leaving America for good to start a new life down under. And it wasn't easy for them. Moving away from family, selling your home and giving away possessions all comes with a big emotional price tag. Would You Like To Join Our Private New Zealand Community? Sign up HERE and I will send you my FREE Moving to and Living in New Zealand Guide. A 5 Part Video Series! Leaving America For Good In this week's show, we talk to Maile and Brian, a couple from Vermont in the USA. Their story is like something out of a movie. Brian and Maile met at high school. They were friends for some years but drifted apart when their careers took different paths. Maile trained to be a nurse and Brian worked in IT account management. The couple had no contact for twenty years. And then out of the blue, Maile received a Facebook request from Bryan. Which she accepted. Phew. Maile was working as a travel nurse but Bryan was experiencing some major life challenges (he called it a midlife crisis). This midlife crisis drove him to New Zealand. For three months. Unbeknown to Bryan, Maile also held a flame for New Zealand. When Bryan returned to America the two spent more and more time together and decided that they would love to return to New Zealand. Together. Moving To New ZealandBryan and Maile began to plan. They researched everything they could about moving to New Zealand. They compared the cost of living in New Zealand vs the US, thought about where they would live (which island was the best, the North or the South Island?). They even brushed up on some New Zealand slang. But watching YouTube videos and asking questions on Facebook wasn't enough for Maile and Bryan. They needed support. Some inside information. They wanted friends who were going through the same challenges and emotional upheaval as they were. And they found it. When they signed up for the FREE 5-day life in New Zealand video guide and then went on to invest in the New Zealand Calling Ultimate Package. Living in New ZealandWhich brings us to now! Bryan and Maile have been living in New Zealand for a grand total of ten days. And, through the private community, we have become close friends. And that is how I was very lucky enough to interview Maile and Bryan and share that content with you! Follow Maile & Brian on YouTube! | Scary Things in New Zealand That DETER Visitors | 24 Jun 2021 | 00:29:47
Scary things in New Zealand. Do they exist? You are probably reading this post because you are or at some point in your life have considered moving to New Zealand. And who could blame you? Clean, green, and with hobbits roaming the countryside in search of gold rings. New Zealand is indeed, a very attractive place to raise a family. But what about the downsides? What about the scary things in New Zealand? Matters that keep you awake at night worrying yourself senseless? Why People Choose To Move To New ZealandNew Zealand has a lot of things going for it. It's a wonderful place to raise kids, the New Zealand food is tasty and diverse, and building a house in New Zealand is not something that is reserved exclusively for the super-rich. New Zealand people are welcoming and easygoing, the weather is favourable and recently Auckland, New Zealand was voted the #1 place in the world to live. Add to this, New Zealand's admirable management of the world pandemic and it's no wonder that people are flocking to the borders and trying to add Jacinda as a friend on Twitter. Scary Things in New Zealand (That Put People Off Coming)But no country is perfect. Including New Zealand. My family and I emigrated from the UK twelve years ago, and before the move, we battled with our own common fears about moving to New Zealand. Once we arrived, we realised that we were not alone. Others, just like us, had those exact same worries. Let's Talk About New Zealand... So in this week's podcast episode, we thought it would be fun to discuss 6 common fears that people share about living in New Zealand. (The things that, no matter how green the grass is on the other side, prevent them from calling Aotearoa home). We recorded this podcast as we were sitting underneath a dormant volcano. Mt Taranaki. You can watch the video below. Fun fact! Taranaki, a region on the West coast of New Zealand was voted the second-best region in the world to live in 2017!
