Dear Listener, A reader named Alex wrote a long, seemingly courteous letter to me — more careful and more genuinely wrestling with Scripture than most criticism I receive, but making serious charges all the same: that my teaching is doctrinally vague, that it amounts to extreme separatism, and that it risks pushing isolated believers into a dangerous, unaccountable "lone wolf" Christianity with no fellowship at all. A man who is calling the Church to repentance as a Body and not only 11. A man who is willing to relocate, to be disrupted, including family/children/job; 12. A man whose testimony is radically different post-2020 cf. pre-2020; 13. A man who sings/praises God every day; 14. A man who weeps for the state the Church and the glory of His Name. Dear Church Gandalf said, "Swords are no more use here!" on the Bridge of Khazad-dûm in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring to emphasize that the creature they were facing, Durin's Bane, was a foe beyond their collective skill and physical weapons. He meant that their swords were useless against this powerful being, a demon of shadow and flame, and that they needed to flee, not fight. Dear Body of Christ, A YouTube version of this podcast is here. As we prayed and read Acts chapter 21 this morning, like Paul in Acts chapter 17 v 16, we were provoked by the immaturity of the behaviour of the men involved. We are now being very honest about the path to which we have been called. In the natural, were an oxen muzzled as it worked hard under its burden, it would eventually grow faint and collapse. The Lord often used analogies from nature like this, (falling birds of the sky, fading flowers of the field, fish, eggs given to little children), precisely in order to highlight the INFINITE difference in value between an animal and a covenant child of God. This is exactly the case in the passages I highlight in tonight’s video and regarding which, once again, Mairi and I offer very robust and honest thoughts, including from our personal life, submitted to the Body of Christ at large. In this video, Nick walks us through the further false accusations levelled at Paul, (of apparent hypocrisy,) and shows how it was far from being hypocrisy that led Paul to join the other four Jewish Christians in having his head shaved. This week I read out an excerpt of an address of Martin Lloyd-Jones to his own church during an annual day away as a church family in 1963. Encouragingly for us, the crux of what Lloyd-Jones was saying 61 years ago in 1963 is the same embryonic train of thought as the things I have written in The Glorious Few in 2023, (60 years hence). “If I am right in my diagnosis, the position is moving very rapidly and unless we do something, it may be too late; or we may be so overwhelmed in disaster that it will only be out of a terrible wreckage that we may gradually crawl out into a new position.
