"They Live" is Episode Three of the TALMUD ON THE RESURRECTION: Tractate Ketubot, page 111b 27 Nov 202401:21:21

This in-depth Gemara study is about fascinating teachings of our Sages regarding THE RESURRECTION; the belief that those who lived, will rise to live again -- the principal of our Torah Faith that comprises the second blessing of the Amida. There seems to be a Torah tradition linking The Resurrection in Messianic Times exclusively to Israel, and kindred exclusivity to the Righteous. What about people buried elsewhere, what about those lacking merit, and most of all how does it square with the Mishna ruling that all of Am Yisrael are included?!

Masechet Ketubot, Daf 111b -- Episode Three, entitled "THEY LIVE" addresses a burning question on The Resurrection: is this reserved for the righteous, or will the masses be included as well? In the previous Episode we clarified the teaching on Resurrection happening only in Israel. Now we will move to another surprising teaching indicating that only perfectly pious people will merit coming back to life in the end of Days. This teaching appears to be at odds with other accepted traditions about the (near) all-inclusive revival of people regardless of their level of learning, observance, or piety. To some degree, the reconciling of these seemingly disparate Torah traditions may be clarified by virtue of a far more inclusive definition of righteousness. Yet lowering the bar won't enable us to overcome the stubborn facts. Clearly the Dew of [re-animated] Life can only flow from the Torah's Light and radiance. How then might [spiritual] commoners receive the vivifying life-elixir energy of the future?! We on a true high with an uplifting and illuminating teaching that shows us all how ordinary people can achieve extraordinary levels of connectivity with G-d. This climatic Episode will provide powerful information on how we can link into the spiritual network to facilitate resuscitation despite systemic inadequacies!

"Quantum Tunneling" ~ Episode two of the TALMUD ON THE RESURRECTION: Tractate Ketubot, page 111a 26 Nov 202401:24:31

This in-depth Gemara study is about fascinating teachings of our Sages regarding THE RESURRECTION; the belief that those who lived, will rise to live again -- the principal of our Torah Faith that comprises the second blessing of the Amida. There seems to be a Torah tradition linking The Resurrection in Messianic Times exclusively to Israel. The obvious question: what about people buried elsewhere?! This and other mysterious issues are addressed in this mini-series.

Masechet Ketubot, Daf 111a -- Episode Two, entitled "QUANTUM TUNNELING," is about a futuristic subterranean Holyland Highway that'll enable the prophesized Return of The Dead for those buried outside the proverbial Land of The Living! Backgrounder: The Messianic Era resuscitation of the deceased seems to include most (if not all) of Am Yisrael, interment location notwithstanding. Yet, in our first Episode we learnt about the Resurrection happening only for those buried in Israel. This teaching appears to be at odds with other accepted traditions about the (near) all-inclusive revival of [pious] people regardless of where they were laid to rest. This Episode introduces resolution by reconciling the veracity of both teachings: Indeed, from around the world, everyone will rise to their ultimate destiny. At the same time Israel is the true Land of the Living. The reconciling of the seeming contradiction is to be found in a tunneling concept called Gilgul Mechilot, which may be an ancient allusion to modern quantum physics.

HONOUR OF KINGS II 12 Feb 202301:07:24
TOM’S TALMUD TISCH: Series on Hakhel, Part Eight Masechet Sotah, Chap. Seven, Page 41a Was Righteous Relinquishing of Royal Respect, Right or Wrong? In this Eighth and final Episode, we conclude analyzing the pithy information on fulfilling the biblical Septennial Assembly Mitzvah of Hakhel that's available in the Mishna. As we've learnt gathering the nation for an event that leaves the maximum after-effect calls for the participatory leadership of a supreme royal figure -- if possible. The inspiring atmosphere at our Septennial Assembly was created, in part, by the sitting Monarch playing the pivotal role. Ultimately, much of Hakhel’s unique aura revolved around the Crown, and the King's Honour therefore comes to be viewed an important component of the Mitzvah. This helps us appreciate our desired involvement of even a less-than-fully-sanctioned regent who represented (at best) a dubious, non-accredited monarchy. The unorthodox humility of one such supreme political leader, leads into a discussion of whether any governing monarch may ever relinquish royal esteem without inappropriately --and unlawfully diminishing the honour of the monarchy itself? The same foreigner-King's surprising emotional outburst elicited an even more surprisingly flattering response from the Torah-sage-led-nation. Was their flattery a tragic and costly mistake? Finally, we'll discover how this sheds light on, and provides a better, fuller comprehension of the Mitzvah of Hakhel itself!
HONOUR OF KINGS 23 Jan 202301:14:54
TOM’S TALMUD TISCH: Series on Hakhel, Part Seven Masechet Sotah, Chap. Seven, Page 41a In this seventh Episode we continue the analysis of information found in the Mishna -- deciphering the meaning of the mechanics of the artificially created ceremony involving rank and file of Jewish political and spiritual leadership to best fulfill the biblical Septennial Assembly Mitzvah of Hakhel! Simply stated: while the Torah clearly ordains the need to gather the nation for an important event that would feature a Torah Reading by its supreme royal leadership, there is no mention of introducing it in a dazzling display of honour to human beings. And, even if the King's Honour is framed as a component of the Mitzvah, doesn’t honouring others infringe upon the unique dignity due to royalty alone? The formalities of the event are fully clarified as we learn to appreciate greater involvement of the Temple dignitaries, alongside with the Monarchy. Finally, a look at posture and protocol: who can sit, and who must stand and what that means to us, the Jewish People. Understanding Temple Respect, and the uniqueness of the Davidic Monarchy vs other Houses of Jewish Royal will ultimately lead into a fuller comprehension of Hakhel itself! This is the Seventh Episode in our special mini- series on Hakhel.
PERFECT TIME 09 Jan 202301:08:20
TOM’S TALMUD TISCH: Series on Hakhel, Part Six Masechet Sotah, Chap. Seven, Page 41a ~ Dissecting Scripture to Determine the Date of Hakhel! In the sixth Episode we continue delving more deeply into the Gemara which clarified the information presented in the Mishna -- in a Quest to Discover the Best Day for The Assembly! To be sure, the Talmud’s careful analysis of verses did reveal the divinely ordained date for our Septennial Assembly Mitzvah. Yet, despite unravelling the seeming superfluous syntax of the scripture regarding the date, the precise timing is still unclear! Compellingly, for all Talmudic pinpointing, the precise date remains a mystery. Surprisingly, the great Sages of the mediaeval era continued to debate this, and until our very day, the question ahs never been fully resolved! Why we weren’t given clearer instructions, and ultimately when exactly is the right time is something we may only discover once Moshiach arrives. Here you will learn to appreciate the differing schools of thought and achieve a broader panoramic view of the full jurisprudence governing this exceptional Torah Commandment.
MAKING TIME 19 Dec 202201:14:05
TOM’S TALMUD TISCH: Series on Hakhel, Part Five Masechet Sotah, Chap. Seven, Page 41a In the fifth Episode we begin studying the Gemara which analyzes the Mishna. Our first focus is on a seeming grammatical inaccuracy in the language it uses -- that could potentially point to the wrong date for the unique Septennial Assembly Reading. Scrolling through the specific Torah verse conveying the day in which the Hakhel Assembly Mitzvah should be held we encounter a surprising biblical anomaly. For all the clear instructions, the exact time still seems unclear. Why the circuitous language, and what is added by multiple methods of identification, and shouldn’t G-d have it conveyed things more directly and clearly? Discover the fascinating bigger picture, and see what else comes to light when we fully decipher these pregnant words? This is the Fifth Episode in our unique Hakhel mini- series.

Seven, Page 41a The What and Why of the Portions Read at the National Assembly In the third Episode we continued studying the Mishna that introduced us to a seemingly alien monarch who led the unique Septennial Assembly Reading. The fourth Episode completes the Mishna; delineating the specific portions of Deuteronomy that must be read aloud by the King, and the blessings he recited at this unique Septennial Assembly Mitzvah. Seven, Page 41a The Day a Royal Foreigner Led the Hakhel Assembly, and why it was important to preserve this story for Posterity! In our second Episode we examined the reasons the Mishna would goes into details of a seemingly superfluous ceremonial hand-off, and the fabrication of a giant wooden platform that set the stage for the performance of this unique Gathering. In this Episode we will continue studying the Mishna that now strangely introduces us to an exceptional historic phenomenon: a seemingly alien monarch who led us in the performance of this unique Septennial Assembly Mitzvah. While the less than stellar credentials of this King are a matter of dispute, it's clear that this led to a departure of the standard formal procedure. The bigger question is, who precisely was this man, how did it happen, and why is it of lasting relevance to us? This third segment of our unique Hakhel mini- series is dedicated to the Refuah Shleima and, b'Ezrat Hashem, long life of Rebbetzin Henya bat Bracha Devorah Leah.
POMP AND CIRCUMSTANCE 29 Nov 202201:05:25
TOM’S TALMUD TISCH: Series on Hakhel, Part Two Masechet Sotah, Chap. Seven, Page 41a The inaugural Episode opened the Mishna addressing Hakhel; the biblically ordained, septennial Jewish National Assembly, and its unique connection to the Monarchy. In the second Episode we see the Mishna going into the details of a seemingly superfluous multi-level ceremonial hand-off that ultimately leads into the practical performance of this unique Gathering. Yet since the Mitzvah is specifically about Reading the Torah not passing it around; why, how, and what is the purpose of these elaborate formal exercises? It's noteworthy that these formalities are entirely absent from the Scriptural narrative.

A ROYAL AFFAIR 29 Nov 202201:15:35
TOM’S TALMUD TISCH: Series on Hakhel, Part One Masechet Sotah, Chap. Seven, Page 41a In Deuteronomy 31; 10-12 Moses conveys the Torah's 612th commandment: "...at the end of every seven years... on the Festival of Sukkot. When all Israel comes to appear before the Lord, your G-d, in the place that He shall choose, you shall read this Torah before all Israel in their hearing. Assemble the people the men, women, and the little ones, and your stranger... so that they may hear, and so that they may learn; and revere the Lord your G-d and observe to perform all the words of this Torah." This in-depth mini-series focuses on the page in Masechet Sotah that records the teachings of our Sages about this rare Mitzvah. The Talmud (and its multi-layered commentaries) richly define and elucidate the details that govern the fulfillment of this enigmatic biblical commandment. -------- In this opening Episode we study the first section of the Mishna that speaks of the practical performance of this, biblically ordained, septennial Jewish National Assembly, and its unique connection to the Monarchy.
