It's our final edition on the Inside Data Centre Podcast at Datacloud Global Congress, Cannes 2025!

Our hosts, Andy Davis and Rory Flashman, are joined by Annabel Helm, Managing Director of Datacloud (techoraco), and Lex Coors, Chief Data Centre Technology and Engineering Officer at Digital Realty and President at EUDCA, to celebrate the final day at the three-day event! From the foundation of organisation, researching speakers and adapting to quick changes, this episode highlights the success of the event, with 45% more people joining the conversation than last year, and 12,000 data centre representatives attending. They discuss why the industry return to the event every year –  growth and getting ahead of the curve, especially with regards to talent, helps to inspire the next generation, and a different sense of perception of the industry (colouring is the new hobby!)

Some key advice from Lex Coors on being in the sector: 

“Make sure you develop yourself and people around you and with you, and also this will be the core of the industry where people will have the knowledge, the title and are seen by that title”.

In this weeks episode I am joined by Mike Halliday from ALET,  Mike Hook from LMG, and Candace Rose from UTC Heathrow. We discuss the recently established Digital Futures Programme, a data centre training programme specifically focussed on 14-19 year olds.

Firstly we discuss why the Digital Futures Programme was established and how the idea came about. The programme enables young people to gain an insight and education into the data centre sector.

We then cover what the programme entails and discuss a recent challenge day that enabled to students to get a great insight to the data centre sector. 

Finally we discuss the impact the programme will have on young people and why collaboration is so important when you are looking to solve a skills shortage.

On this weeks episode I am joined by Vlad-Gabriel Anghel, Head of Product at DCPro Training. Vlad gives a great insight to the importance of training within the data centre sector.

Firstly we discuss Vlad's career and how an interest in gaming and computers resulted in him studying computer science at university. Rather than following the normal route into software Vlad followed his passions and ended up in the world of data centres at DC Pro.

We then discuss training in the data centre sector. What training is available, how it is continuously evolving, why companies are now putting a much greater emphasis on training, and what the future looks like from a training perspective. 

Finally we discuss the general perception of the data centre sector and what we can all do to increase the flow of talent joining the industry.

Vlad is very passionate about data centres and he has some excellent ideas on how we can manage the current challenges faced by the sector.

In this episode I am joined by Chad Harris, CEO of Whinstone Data Centers. Chad leads the team building North Americas single largest Bitcoin mining and hosting data center, based in Rockdale Texas.

Chad is a serial entrepreneur and we discuss how his extensive career in business resulted in the creation of Whinstone Data Centers. Chad also shares some insight on why entrepreneurs have that innate drive to be successful.

We then cover Whinstone Data Centres, how they were created, what they do, why the facility is different from a standard data centre, and how the company has evolved since they were acquired by Riot Blockchain. You can hear the passion in Chad's voice when he talks about the company, there is no doubt big things are on the horizon for Riot Whinstone! 

Finally we talk about the impact the facility has had on the wider community. Chad shares some stories of some of the amazing work they have done to improve the life of everyone within Rockdale.
