Brady Watt is an American record producer, bassist, bandleader, and multi-instrumentalist known for his work in the hip-hop, particularly in New York City. He is most recognized for his viral YouTube series "Bass & Bars," where he plays bass alongside various rappers and singers, including Talib Kweli, Xzibit, Warren G, and Marc Rebillet.

He has performed and recorded with numerous high-profile artists, including Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch, Murs, Melanie Fiona, Krayzie Bone, and Styles P and many more.

In this episode I'm speaking to friend and collaborator Emel Mathlouthi about being a woman in the music industry, living in Cairo and her tour in Palestine.

Emel Mathlouthi is a Tunisian-American artist and activist widely known as the voice of the Arab Spring for her anthem "Kelmti Horra", cementing her as one of the most powerful artistic voices of her generation. Blending electronic production with North African roots and cinematic scope, Emel has performed at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert, toured internationally, and collaborated across genres and cultures.

Her work frequently centers on freedom, resistance, and social justice, with recent focus on female empowerment, such as her 2025 album MRA, which is a fully female-produced project.

They talk about the connection between music and God, growing up making music in church, the psychological and spiritual risks of attaching one’s identity to a gig, and how an artist learns to stay grounded while moving through major stages, tours, and transitions. The conversation also touches on Niji’s upbringing, his relationship to faith, and the evolution of his original music.
