In Zeiten von Krisen und Kriegen trägt die Kulturbranche eine besondere Verantwortung, als Plattform für Dialog und Reflexion zu dienen, gesellschaftliche Konflikte sichtbar zu machen und zugleich Räume für Verständigung zu schaffen. Letzteres ist jedoch insbesondere in diesen angespannten Zeiten sehr schwer zu bewerkstelligen. Das hohe Konfliktpotenzial und die Unterschiedlichkeit der Positionen bei Themen wie dem Nahost-Konflikt oder dem Russland-Ukraine-Krieg lassen nur selten Raum für Kompromisse. Dennoch sehen sich zahlreiche Filmfestivals vor der Mammutaufgabe, diese Fragen nicht unbehandelt zu lassen und zugleich allen Betroffenen gegenüber respektvoll zu sein. Darüber, wie Festivals mit diesem Thema umgehen können,  sprechen wir heute mit Heleen Gerritsen, Leiterin des goEast Filmfestivals, und Daniel Sponsel, künstlerischer Leiter des DOK.fest München. Filmfestivals bringen Menschen zusammen und bieten eine Plattform, um aktuelle gesellschaftliche und politische Fragen zu thematisieren. Doch wie werden die Filme ausgesucht? Wer entscheidet welche Filme vorankommen und welche nicht? Und vor allem, an welchen Kriterien orientiert man sich bei der Entscheidung? Diese und ähnliche Fragen drängen sich auf, wenn es um die Planung und Organisation von Filmfestivals geht. Mit ihrer Beantwortung geht auch eine große gesellschaftliche Verantwortung einher. Insbesondere dann, wenn das Festival sich auch mit aktuellen internationalen Konflikten und Kriegen auseinandersetzt, die hierzulande stark im Fokus stehen. Dies stellt vor allem die Veranstalter*innen und Programmkurator*innen vor besondere Herausforderungen. Vor diesen Herausforderungen sieht sich auch unser heutiger Gast, Victoria Leshchenko. Sie ist Koordinatorin der Dokumentarfilmwettbewerbe bei DOK Leipzig und erzählt uns, wie sie und ihr Team die Programmgestaltung des Festivals angehen. Das Gespräch wurde auf Englisch geführt.
