Philippa Taylor chairs a webinar with Kallie Fell

In this webinar, Kallie Fell from the Center for Bioethics and Culture explores the ethical and social implications of egg freezing and embryo adoption. Marketed as empowering choices for women and hopeful parents, both practices are often driven by profit and promote a false sense of security or altruism.

Kallie examines the medical risks, emotional consequences, and commodification involved, raising critical questions about informed consent, identity, and the long-term impact on families and children. This presentation encourages a thoughtful, ethical reflection on modern reproductive technologies and the way they shape our understanding of fertility, motherhood, and human life.

Kallie started her professional career as a scientist in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center utilizing a Master of Science degree in Animal Sciences with an emphasis on Reproductive Physiology and Molecular Biology from Purdue University. While assisting in the investigation of endometriosis and pre-term birth, Kallie simultaneously pursued a degree in nursing with hopes of working with women as a perinatal nurse. After meeting Jennifer at a conference, Kallie became interested in the work of the Center for Bioethics and Culture and started volunteering with the organization. It is obvious that Kallie is passionate about women’s health.

She continues to work as a perinatal nurse and has worked with the CBC since 2018, first as a volunteer writer, then as our staff Research Associate, and now as the Executive Director.  In 2021, Kallie co-directed the CBC’s newest documentary, Trans Mission: What’s the Rush to Reassign Gender?  Kallie also hosts the popular podcast Venus Rising and is the Program Director for the Paul Ramsey Institute. Her latest film, The Lost Boys: Searching for Manhood, was released earlier this year, as was her new book, co-authored with Jennifer Lahl, The Detransition Diaries (published by Ignatius Press).

In this webinar, I plan to challenge some stereotypes and encourage you to see that God needs a diverse range of Christians in leadership roles. I aim to give the type of talk I would have valued 20 years ago, and empower you to envision how you can embrace opportunities to serve God in your career.

Catriona Waitt is a physician and NIHR Professor of Clinical Pharmacology and Global Health at the University of Liverpool. She lived in Malawi for four years during her PhD, and since 2015 has been based largely in Uganda at the Infectious Diseases Institute, Makerere University, Uganda where she leads the Maternal and Infant Lactation pharmacoKinetics (MILK) and Attaining Equity of Access to Research programmes. Cancer prehabilitation prepares the cancer survivors, including caregivers, for the rigours of cancer treatment in whatever time they have before it starts. It employs a multidisciplinary approach, primarily targeting the physical, nutritional, and psychosocial needs of the survivors.

It provides specific interventions and monitoring after screening and assessment to all cancer survivors. It has proven beneficial in enhancing recovery after surgery and improving tolerance to complications.

Bertha Amirtha Deva Rathinam, teaches Anatomy at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhopal, India. The swift advance of euthanasia and assisted suicide (MAiD) in Canada and its corresponding effect on conscience rights should be a cautionary tale for the rest of the world. Nova Scotia doctors are currently fighting to practice medicine against regulators who are trying to normalize the practice of euthanasia by requiring an "effective referral" of patients to the service. As the number of disturbing cases expands, more and more doctors are unable to comply with regulators who are threatening discipline for non compliance.

On 20th October 2019, John’s youngest child, Cameron, died by suicide at 24-years-old, and his world changed forever. Emil Shehadeh was born in Israel and educated mainly in the UK, achieving BSc Hons (Medical Biology), MSc (Biochemistry), MB ChB (Medicine), and a Diploma in Dermatology and MRCGP. Growing up in Israel, he accompanied his parents all over Galilee, spreading the Gospel amongst all communities including Muslims. He also worked with Child Evangelism Fellowship and OM. In the early 1990s, he co-founded an Arabic Church in Cardiff, S Wales. He practiced as a GP (Family Physician and a trainer) until 2016. Upon retirement, he dedicated his time to writing and speaking on the subject of Islam and evangelising Muslims. He supports evangelistic work amongst Muslims in North Africa and Nigeria. Emil has a PhD in Islamic Studies from Logos University and is engaged in another piece of research at LST, Northwood, on the Causes and Consequences of Muslim Conversions to Christianity. Women have become a large sector of medical and dental schools since the mid 80s. Before that time, it was tough for women to be accepted in these fields. God created us male and female and we each bring different gifts to the field of medicine.

This webinar will explore those gifts and needs of women within CMDA US. The organization saw the need to address these needs. This webinar will share that journey of how CMDA US has supported our roles as women in Christ serving together.

Patti Francis was born to German immigrant parents who emigrated after World War II. She became a Board Certified Pediatrician in 1979 and recently retired from private practice in pediatrics. She has been part of CMDA US since becoming a medical student and has served in several leadership positions, including volunteering as a delegate from California. She was asked by David Topazian, DDS, then President of CMDA, to explore the needs of women physicians and dentists in CMDA in 1990. It was given the status of Commission several years later. Through film, this presentation will explore third-party reproduction with a specific focus on the main commodity: human eggs. A mid-life crisis during the pandemic led him to pursue a Masters in Counselling. He became a professional counsellor in January 2023 with Indigo and Co., a non-profit organisation focused on gender and sexuality issues. He recently completed a Diploma in Sex Addiction. Extroverts, for example, preferring action, will struggle to have a regular prayer discipline; introverts will find it more difficult to pray in public. Prayer should not be one more burden in life, but a pleasure to enjoy. Dr Pablo Martínez is a psychiatrist and he currently works at a private practice in Barcelona. He develops a wide ministry as lecturer and teacher in many European countries on topics like “Mind and faith”, “The therapeutic value of the Gospel in emotional problems” or “Taking care of yourself”. His books dealing with such issues have been translated into 16 languages. He served the International Christian Medical and Dental Association (ICMDA) as one of its vice presidents.

Yet the Bible celebrates committed covenantal friendship. How can we re-imagine Gospel-shaped friendship in the sexually obsessed and suspicious world in which we live?
What are the red flags that indicate when friendship is going wrong and how can we create healthy Christian communities in which friendships can flourish?

John Wyatt is Emeritus Professor of Neonatal Paediatrics, University College London, a Senior Researcher at the Faraday Institute, Cambridge and President of the UK Christian Medical Fellowship.

He has a clinical background as a paediatrician caring for sick and premature infants and also a medical scientist researching into the prevention of brain injury in newborn babies.

He has always been interested in ethical dilemmas raised by advances in medical technology and has frequently engaged in public and professional consultations and debates from the perspective of the Christian faith.

His book Matters of Life and Death – human dilemmas in the light of the Christian faith has been translated into more than ten languages. His most recent book is Transforming Friendship. He and his wife Celia are longstanding members of All Souls Church in London.

Informing Advocacy: Filling Gaps in Data About the Christian Health Landscape

Christian health assets are sometimes overlooked or excluded from programs that strengthen health systems, train health workers, conduct research, and fund services. This is in part because governments, donors, and partners lack quality data about the scope, scale and location of such assets.

The Christian Health Asset Mapping Consortium (CHAMC) is a voluntary association of several of the world’s largest Christian networks that aims to improve data on Christian health assets, including hospitals, clinics, community programs, health worker training programs, supply agencies, and the networks and volunteer agencies that support them.

Doug Fountain serves as CCIH Executive Director. Doug brings over 30 years of experience in health services planning, research, and evaluation and over 20 years in the faith-based and international development sectors. He consults on development strategy and policy with bilateral and multilateral partners and global faith actors. He served in Executive Leadership at Medical Teams International, a relief-focused NGO, and with Uganda Christian University, where he lived for over eight years. He helped start the Christian Health Asset Mapping Consortium, the Christian Journal for Global Health, and the Faculty of Health Sciences at Uganda Christian University. Doug holds an MPA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a B.S. in Political Science and Economics from the University of Oregon. Carolyn O’Brien is the Program Advisor for CCIH, helping design and monitor programs. Carolyn manages the Christian Health Asset Mapping Consortium, CCIH’s 30×30 Health Systems Initiative, and CCIH’s new consortium on climate resilience. She coordinates USAID-funded projects in reproductive health, vaccine confidence, and drug supply chains. Carolyn served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Albania and has experience studying household air pollution and road safety. We will touch on measuring and evaluating results that matter, doing literature searches, the various types of research, and the process of writing up scholarly papers for publication. Daniel O’Neill, MD, MTh is founder and managing editor of Christian Journal for Global Health, a scholarly multi-disciplinary journal.  He is a writer and co-editor of the book All Creation Groans: Toward a Theology of Disease and Global Health (2021). He is Assistant Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He co-designed the Guide to Excellence in Evidence for Faith Groups from the Joint Learning Initiative for Faith and Local Communities, and leads the multi-faith Evidence Working Group of the Moral and Spiritual Imperative convened by the World Bank. Dr. Elliott Larson's career consists of twenty years in scientific research, 17 of them in the UK, fourteen years in private practice as an internist and infectious disease consultant in the US, and ten years teaching internal medicine and consulting in Afghanistan. In every country which has legalised euthanasia, organ donation following euthanasia has also been legalised eventually. In Canada, organ removal was integrated to the euthanasia practice from the very start. 
The utilitarian case for it is overwhelming logical - if it is ethical to allow doctors to end a patient's life to relieve their suffering, then giving that patient the opportunity to save other lives naturally follows. 
This seminar will explore how organ donation euthanasia has grown, especially in Belgium and Canada, consider the arguments put forward for it and offer a biblical Christian response. 

Dr Trevor Stammers was Editor of The New Bioethics journal. He was formerly Associate Professor of Bioethics and Medical Law at St Mary's University, London and was a family doctor for 27 years before going into academia. This talk will introduce the topic of abortion from an ethical, medical and legal perspective. It will explore the science of the beginning of life, methods and statistics regarding abortion, basic arguments for and against abortion, and the Biblical basis for protecting life in its earliest stages. It will also cover some difficult cases often used to argue for abortion, particularly when the life of the mother is at risk.Dr Calum Miller is a medical doctor and a research fellow at the University of Oxford, where he teaches philosophy and researches abortion policy. Dr Miller has published over 30 academic papers on topics including maternal mortality in the developing world, the empirical impact of abortion bans on women, the ethics of voting on abortion, animal and fetal pain, abortion and mental health, telemedicine abortion, academic freedom, and the philosophy of religion. Modern science has borrowed numerous principles from Christianity.Michael Jones is the founder and director of the non-profit organization “Inspiring Philosophy”, and is primarily dedicated to research in the fields of philosophy, history, and science to uncover deep philosophical questions relating to the universe and our individual perception of life.

He has a Masters in Philosophy from the University of Arizona and has published a plethora of research work on his YouTube Channel “Inspiring Philosophy”. On this channel he compiles and analyzes data for the layman to reach reasonable conclusions to a variety of philosophical quandaries.

He leads Jubilee Dental, a multi-location practice with over 30 years of service, and serves as Dean of the Uganda Christian University School of Dentistry.
A futurist and leadership trainer, he holds a Doctorate in Strategic Leadership from Regent University and has spoken at leadership forums across three continents.
