Organizing these spaces is a good idea, but the most important area in your homeschool to organize isn’t a space at all.

Join Coach Nove as she discuss what matters most in Homeschooling Organization.

How To Mark and Reflect the End of Your Homeschool Year.28 May 202200:27:44

Is your homeschool year coming to an end? Even if you homeschool year-round, a time of reflection and review is always helpful.

Whether you choose to homeschool year-round or follow a more traditional school schedule, this tends to be the time for yearly assessments and wrap-ups. In many cases, it also means submitting paperwork and portfolios to your Homeschool provider. Amidst all the reviewing, evaluating, and measuring up, it’s important to remember that homeschooling is more than just checking-off things on an academic to-do list. It’s also about building close relationships with your children and nurturing their unique abilities and personalities.

How Am I Going To Know Whether My Kids Are Learning?21 May 202200:30:38

Big worry for many homeschooling parents is how to assess their child’s progress. They want to know how to see that homeschooling is working and get some assurance that their child is progressing.

We love our kids and want what’s best for them, so we like reassurance that we’re not negatively impacting our children’s lives academically, spiritually, or socially by homeschooling. So, when you decide to take the plunge and start homeschooling, how do you know that your child is achieving his full academic potential? How do you know that he’s meeting educational goals and milestones?

Mom's No Filter Conversations: An Open Letter07 May 202200:54:06

Isaiah 66:13a "As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you."

As we celebrate Mother’s Month, may we all be reminded that even before we became mothers and now that we are mothers, we are children of the Lord. Our Lord knows and sees our hearts. He knows our past; holds our hands in the present; and will walk with us even in the far future.

So, let's take this time to talk about a few things that mothers go through, and hopefully, our discussion can be the start of many more conversations.

Here are some issues many mothers face, homeschooling or non-homeschooling. To celebrate Mother’s Day, we will be going over some of these issues and, very briefly, say what God has been teaching us in these areas.

On the issue of Mom guilt, The myth of a perfect mom/parent, and motherhood loneliness

Together let us learn with Coach Mommy Nove, Avic, and Jihan.

I've noticed how other parents were talking to their kids about the crisis. Parents varied on the spectrum from “Nothing at all” to "We binged CNN today .” Kids will naturally have questions about events in the “Adult” world. My kids are all teenagers now and they are armed with questions and opinions, ready to dive deep. However, overall, I am learning more than they are. How do we explain something to our kids that we, as parents, are also learning and struggling to understand? Let us learn together with Coach Nove on how we can talk to our Kids about the crisis in Ukraine and Russia. 💜

How to make Lent part of Homeschool02 Apr 202200:33:34

Holy week is coming! What are you going to do?

As a homeschooler with a lot of thoughts, one part of our brain would be concentrating on homeschooling, while the other part would be fretting about, say, Lent and all that comes with it. It wasn't until these two parts came together that we realized we could weave Lent through our homeschooling and begin celebrating both things instead of dreading the addition of the other.

Instead of being overwhelmed about things that come into our lives, let us learn that it is much easier to accept the heart of the Gospel and incorporate it into our schooling. Adding that "one more thing" to our days seemed like such a burden, but when we began to see that the practices of Lent could actually be a part of our schooling, things got much better.

Let us learn together.💜 with Coach Nove on how the Lenten season can be a part of our homeschooling journey, not as a burden but as great memories.

There's more! If you share this podcast, you can win one of our Lenten book recommendations.

One The Pilgrim's Progress: A Poetic Retelling of John Bunyan’s Classic Tale

One Little Pilgrim Progress (Illustrated Edition)

One Darkest Night Brightest day A family devotional for the Easter Season  by Marty Machowski

One Uncovering the love of Jesus A Lent devotional by Asheritah Ciuciu

One set of The little Pilgrim's journey  Book 1 and 2 by Tayler Van Halteren

International Women’s Month: OFW Homeschool Moms Edition – Moms Hangout: No Filter Conversations19 Mar 202201:27:55

Last March 8, the world celebrated International Women’s Day. In the Philippines , the whole month of March is National Women’s Month according to the Philippine Commission on Women or the PCW. Its website states that this year’s celebration theme is “We Make Change for Women” to highlight the empowerment of women as active contributors to and claim holders of development.

Furthermore, PCW states that  this pursuit of development is also anchored on the commitment of “Malasakit at Pagbabago” or True Compassion and Change.

As a way to celebrate Women’s Month in the context of homeschooling, we are featuring today homeschool moms from a sector with its own unique journey and challenges: Overseas Filipino Working moms who also homeschool their kids. We have invited three OFW homeschooling moms to join us today.

We invited Beverly Pancho founder of Filipino Homeschoolers in UAE

Leah Salting founder of Charlotte Mason Authentique from Bahamas

And

Joanna Morales founder of Filipino Independent Homeschoolers Philippines and UAE

Join Mommy Nove, Mommy Jihan and Mommy Avic for a Mom's Hangout  No filter Conversation with OFW

Let us learn from them. 💜

Should I Homeschool My Shy Child?12 Mar 202200:26:39

Homeschool or not we have an important job as parents of shy kids to intentionally provide social interaction. If parents do not find a way to help a child deal with her nervousness and anxiety around others, the shy child might slip into a world of loneliness and isolation, even though she would really like to be social.

So let us tune on this topic with Coach Nove Ann Tan . Let us learn together.

Self Directed learning, Myths and Realities.19 Feb 202200:48:34

In one school of thought, self-directed learning (SDL) is based in the autonomous, independent individual who chooses to undertake learning for personal growth or some say "Unschooling"

While learning approaches are gradually accommodating self-learning methods, there are some prevalent controversies over the meaning of self-learning— whether it can be implemented in formal education; to what extent learning should be self-directed; whether learning happens in a holistic, organised manner or in isolation and chaos; and whether teachers have a role to play in the process. This has led to the rise of a number of myths about self-learning, which cause parents and curriculum coordinators to shy away from implementing such learning methods. It is important to correct these misconceptions so that today’s learners can meet their own needs and aspirations with personalised learning styles.

That is why we invited Jhoanna Villarama to discuss this misconceptions. She is the founder and President of Abot Tala, an alternative yo mainstream high-school and member the Liberated Learner's network .

You can follow them in their IG  @abbotalahigh  @liberatedlearners accounts or check out their website www.abottala.com

How to Handle Family Relationships during Holiday Season with Grace and Love18 Dec 202100:27:35

Relationships and traditions are valuable to us Filipinos.
The holidays conjure images of family happily gathered around a home cooked meal or  traveling. But for others the family scenes they envision are of perpetual conflict and tension. What some consider a pleasant, memory-making time, others view as a nightmare to endure. Tense family relationships can not only spoil a festive holiday for the ones in conflict but possibly for the entire family.

So what can you do?

Join us as we discuss  How to handle Relationships during Holiday season with Grace and Love with Coach Nove. 💜

Love in times of grief 04 Dec 202100:36:54
Christmas just ain't Christmas without the one you love. New Year's just ain't New Year's without the one you love You feel alone and your heart feels darker than ever. The Christmas music is unbearable and there’s an overwhelming emptiness that takes over every thought. If you’re grieving the loss of someone important to you this Christmas season, you may resonate with this lack of holiday cheer called grief. Let's learn together and talk about it with my dear mentor and friend Shirley Marquez — is a pastor’s wife who has served voluntarily in ministry since 1995. She has been joyfully married to Ariel Marquez for thirty-one years and has four children—Bea, 29; Jerome, who has gone, enjoying heaven since 2003; Ana, 16; and Andrea, 15 years of age. She and her husband have been teaching biblical and practical topics on marriage, family, and child training. They desire to see families foster a sense of belonging, togetherness, and loving connections by creating meaningful and memorable moments of everyday life, especially at Christmas. Join us as we discuss how to have Love in times of grief. Disclaimer: For every conversation here please treat it as a suggestion, not a permanent solution. Remember this is only your guide. Attitude of Gratitude20 Nov 202100:46:58

Attitude of Gratitude ❤️

It is Thanksgiving season in some countries like the USA, Canada and even Japan. While the Philippines does not have a specific Thanksgiving Day, nothing prevents us from celebrating and reflecting on what Thanksgiving means to us and the importance of cultivating an attitude of gratitude.

Despite the bleakness of the pandemic, just thinking about the things that we can be thankful for somehow allows us to be more hopeful and optimistic.

Peace in the midst of Uncertainty 13 Nov 202100:45:02

Peace in the midst of Uncertainty

How is your season going nowadays?

If we’re honest, we might choose words like busy, hectic, or frantic to describe our lives this time of year—or maybe all year round. Maybe it’s an overloaded schedule that robs you of peace. Or maybe it’s something more: loneliness, overwhelm, or tired (especially this year), or relational conflict, pressure at work, a lost job, illness . Everything is uncertain .You name it. We have plenty of options to choose from this year!

In all of these circumstances, in all of these struggles—this is where God showed up. And this is where God continues to show up for us. In our pain. In our fears. In our confusion. In our grief. In our loss. In our uncertainty. I don’t know every hardship you are facing today, or every wince of pain you are feeling. But God does. He is there, bringing peace to calm your heart, peace that defies your circumstances.

That is why I invited  my friend and mentor Jenn Punzalan to discuss how to find Peace  in the midst of uncertainty especially in this trying times.

Preparing our hearts and Families for Christmas in these challenging times30 Oct 202100:44:00

Mom's Hangout for No filter Conversation

Preparing our hearts and families for Christmas in these challenging times.

Remembering the Cause for Celebration

Luke 2:6-7
While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

Months before the birth of Jesus, Mary had to go through some challenges. While those challenges may be very different from what are experiencing right now, perhaps we can talk about what we can learn from the scriptures and from each other so we can all move towards the BER months with a better perspective.

How can we prepare our hearts  and families for the upcoming Christmas season as the world battles these pandemic?

Together, let us explore this topic with our dear mom friends
Avic Tatlonghari and Jihan Tan on how to finish homeschooling without filter.

How the Pandemic Changed Our Family16 Oct 202100:50:37
The pandemic has dramatically changed our lives and relationships over the past year. It has uniquely affected families by disrupting routines, changing relationships and roles. So I asked my dear friend and fellow homeschool mom Malou De Guzman to tell us about her experiences – good and bad – in living through this moment in history. Ms. Malou Dayao-de Guzman "Greatest joy is to be the loving wife of Raymond and proud mother of Daniel and Allison. Fulfilled to empower the next generation with the love and purposes of Jesus Christ." Malou encountered the love of Christ as a freshman at the University of the Philippines Los Baños. She completed her education at the University of San Francisco. She is married to her best friend, Raymond, raising two world-changers, Daniel (21) and Allison (12). They just recently released their first arrow to college. Together with her husband, they planted a church in Lipa, Batangas, and served there for 13 blessed years. They served in Victory Katipunan as Senior Pastors for five years. Balancing her time with homeschool and the corporate world, she still loves the simplicity of life through nature, plants, and her home. But for her, nothing can be more rewarding than to make the love of Christ known and proclaim God’s purposes for the next generation in the campuses in the Philippines and around the world. Just last year, they started the “Next Generation Publishers”. In 2020, they co-authored an illustrated book entitled, “When the World was Too Heavy to Carry”. This 2021, she just wrote another illustration book for Christmas, “When the World Was Without Light”, to be released this coming December. follow her at her instagram account @maloudguzman Disclaimer: For every conversation here please treat it as a suggestion, not a permanent solution. Lessons I have learned in Homeschooling Part 109 Oct 202100:24:37

When my eldest daughter finished her homeschool year, it was bittersweet for me. Our other two kids are in senior high and 10th grade now, and then after 15 years of homeschooling, it made me ponder. So, after all those years invested, I found myself thinking about what makes homeschooling successful. What did I  learn from homeschooling? I could sit down and tell you many, many things that I have learned over the years. However, I will narrow it down to parts of the essential things I learned from 15  years of homeschooling. When Dads Become the Homeschool Teacher02 Oct 202100:52:14
Surveys and studies have shown that over 90% of the time, Mom is the primary teacher in a homeschooling family. But that doesn’t account for everyone, and sometimes Dad is the teacher, not Mom. How does that change the homeschooling dynamic? This episode, we look at the question of what happens when Dad is the teacher. That is why we invited Patrick Mabilog. Emotion Coaching 101 : What It is? And Why Our Kids Need It25 May 202400:34:14

Children misbehave for a myriad of different reasons. Sometimes they are testing the boundaries to see what they can get away with, and for these times, consistently reminding them of the limits is a helpful thing to do. But often parents try to use the same behavioural techniques on behaviours that are really not misbehaviours – rather, they're the result of big feelings. When a child is experiencing a strong emotion, they often feel overwhelmed and out of control. This is not a time to try to enforce compliance – this needs a different approach. It needs Emotion Coaching. Join the third episode of “The Heart Of Parenting” with Coach Nove and Coach Jennie Magpantay. Together they will help us navigate how parenting from the heart looks like. Follow Coach Jennie on her Instagram account. She is a certified Emotion and Relationship Coach. For more inquiries, please email her at magpantayjennie@yahoo.com Tag @ihomeschoolph and @jenniemagpantay. We are so excited to know what you have learned in this episode. Mom's Hangout No Filter Conversation: Healthy Boundaries For Our Kids25 Sep 202101:13:02

Parents talk a lot about the need for “boundaries,” but what does this word really mean? As a parent, you can think of a boundary as the line you draw around yourself to define where you end and where your child begins. This isn’t always easy and let’s face it, kids push the boundaries every day, all the time. They are wired to test us and see how far they can go; it’s in their nature. As parents, we need to be wise about this.

Together, let us explore this topic with our dear mom friends. Avic Tatlonghari and Jihan Tan on how to finish homeschooling without filter.

How To Be a Joyful Wife While Homeschooling?18 Sep 202100:58:14

Sometimes as we homeschool (or as we get prepared for the new homeschool year) we let our jobs as mothers and teachers (and chefs and housekeepers) stop us from spending time with our husbands and showing them that they are important to us and that we love them. Being a mom is a hard job, and being a homeschooling mom is even harder! (And if you have special needs kids, that adds an extra element of stress and difficulty!) But it’s important for our children to see what a healthy marriage looks like.

Having a happy marriage while homeschooling is possible! Yes, we’re busy. Yes, our lives are often stressful. But we don’t have to sacrifice our marriages.

That is why we invited Grace Gaston-Dousel. She's an educator, a home education consultant, a learning coach, a publish author, speaker and an artist. But her favorite role is that of a wife and mother! She is married to Goumang Dousel and they are blessed with a son Lian and daughter Josephine whom she is homeschooling since 2012 . Together they founded Arrows & Quivers Family Development Inc., which manages Arrows and Quivers Homeschool in Davao City. They help schools and families adapt to the  next normal to make learning from home meaningful and strategic.
