Elisabetta Raffo is the director of the Bruschettini Foundation for Islamic and Asian Art in Genoa, Italy. Founded by Alessandro Bruschettini, the foundation is internationally recognized for its outstanding collection of Islamic and Asian art. Under her leadership, the foundation has focused on exploring the cultural and historical significance of Islamic art in a global context.

Mina Moraito is the curator at the Benaki Museum of Islamic Art in Athens. She is an art historian with over 30 years of experience, specializing in Islamic art and curating exhibitions. She received a postgraduate diploma (1992) and an MA in Islamic Art History (1996) from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. Since joining the Benaki Museum in 1992, she has played a pivotal role in establishing the museum's Department of Islamic Art (2004) and has curated numerous exhibitions.

Dr. Rasmus Bech Olsen is a curator at the David Collection in Copenhagen, a private museum in Denmark renowned for its outstanding collection of Islamic art. He was part of the team that curated the acclaimed exhibition "Beyond Words: Calligraphy in the Islamic World" (2024-2025). He has also written articles and book chapters on various aspects of Islamic art and culture.

تشغل إليزابيتا رافو منصب مدير مؤسسة بروسكيتيني للفن الإسلامي والآسيوي في مدينة جنوة التي تأسست على يد أليساندرو بروسكيتيني، وهي معروفة عالميًا لمجموعتها المرموقة من الفن الإسلامي والفن الآسيوي. تحت قيادتها، تواصل المؤسسة تسليط الضوء على أهمية الفن الإسلامي من خلال استكشاف أبعاده الثقافية والتاريخية في سياق عالمي

د. محمد جياكيتي باحث وأستاذ متخصص في الأدب الإسلامي والمخطوطات. حاصل على شهادة الدراسات المتقدمة في التاريخ الحضاري الإسلامي (2001) وشهادة الدكتوراه في العلوم الإسلامية (2007). يشغل حالياً منصب رئيس قسم المخطوطات وأستاذ في معهد أحمد بابا للدراسات العليا والبحوث الإسلامية في تمبكتو، عاصمة مالي

د. محمد القاضي من مواليد عام 1979 في تيندبي بمنطقة غاو في دولة مالي. باحث وأستاذ جامعي متخصص في الأدب العربي والمخطوطات. حاصل على الدكتوراه في الأدب والحضارة (2024)، والماجستير في الأدب العربي (2019)، والبكالوريوس في اللغة العربية والدراسات الإسلامية (2004). يعمل منذ عام 2019 أستاذاً في معهد أحمد بابا للدراسات العليا والبحوث الإسلامية، كما يشغل منصب قيّم فني في قسم المخطوطات منذ عام 2013. عمل سابقاً باحثاً، واهتم بفهرسة المخطوطات في المعهد بين عامي 2005 و2020

أميرة حماية أمينة متحف الفن الإسلامي بالقاهرة، وتقود أيضاً إدارة التعاون الدولي بالمتحف لتعزيز الشراكات العالمية في مجال الحفاظ على التراث الإسلامي والترويج له. درست الآثار الإسلامية في جامعة عين شمس وتخرجت عام 2005، ثم حصلت على الماجستير في حفظ التراث من جامعة حلوان. بدأت مسيرتها المهنية كمفتشة آثار إسلامية في منطقة الأزهر والغورية، حيث عملت على تقييم المواقع الأثرية وتنفيذ خطط الحفاظ عليها

Dr Silke Achermann is the Director of the History of Science Museum at the University of Oxford, having been appointed in 2014 as the first female museum director at Oxford University. She is also co-founding director of the Oxford Centre for the History of Science, Medicine, and Technology and holds a Professorial Fellowship at Linacre College. In 2013 she was the first woman to be elected President of the Scientific Instrument Commission of the International Union of History and Philosophy of Science and Technology, a post she held until 2017. Ackermann is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries, a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Scientific Instrument Makers, and a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers.

Captain Augusto Salgado graduated from the Portuguese Naval Academy in 1983. He is a Captain of the Portuguese Navy, and has a PhD in Maritime History by the Faculdade de Letras, Lisbon. He is a researcher at CINAV – PT Naval Research Centre and member of the Academia de Marinha and of the Portuguese Military History Commission. He teaches Maritime History (XVI to XX centuries) at the Portuguese Navy Academy (Escola Naval) and in post-graduated courses. His field of study is the Portuguese Naval History (mainly 16th century onward) and has published three books and several papers on this subject. In 2011 he won the award Prémio do Mar – Rei D. Carlos 2011 (Cascais). He is also a keen underwater archaeology enthusiast since 1996 and underwater photographer for over 30 years. He is the co-coordinator of the project “The U-35 operations in the Algarve” that won the National Archaeology Society (UK) award “Adopt a Wreck Award 2015” and of the Research Program – HistArC: Maritime History and Archaeology of the Conflicts.

Farida Alhusseini is the Director of the Islamic Arts Biennale at the Diriyah Biennale Foundation (DBF). Having joined DBF in 2021, her role was instrumental in launching the inaugural edition of the Islamic Arts Biennale, which achieved a record number of visitors. She holds a BA in Social Anthropology and Middle Eastern Civilizations from the University of Toronto and an MA in Narrative Environments from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, London.

Dr Abdul Rahman Azzam read history at Oxford where he obtained his BA and Dphil. Between 2007-2017, he worked as Director of Communications and Cultural Advisor to Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser Al-Missned, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation (QF). In 2012, he led the partnership between QF and the British Library to digitize over three million documents. He was a member of the Joint Advisory Board of Northwestern University, as well as the Qatar National Library. Previously, he was the Managing Director of The Islamic Texts Society, as well as the founder of Hood Hood Books. He is the author of Saladin: The Triumph of the Sunni Revival, The Other Exile, and The Return of Sebastian. He was Senior Expert Advisor on AlMadar ("The Orbit"), a special initiative by the Diriyah Biennale Foundation (DBF) that promotes collaboration and dialogue between institutions with significant collections of Islamic art around the world, and inaugurated at the first edition of the Islamic Arts Biennale in 2023.

Masa Al-Kutoubi is AlMadar Lead at the DBF's Islamic Arts Biennale and brings over 15 years of experience in art advisory and consultancy, having previously served as Head of Sales and Art Specialist at Christie’s. She advises private, corporate, and government clients across the GCC on integrating art and culture into their business strategies, focusing on collections, artist patronage, and large-scale cultural initiatives. She has played key roles in major exhibitions, including Desert X AlUla 2020 and the Diriyah Contemporary Art Biennale 2022. In 2023, she led the team for the inaugural Islamic Arts Biennale, creating AlMadar (“the Orbit”), one of the seven unique components of the Islamic Arts Biennale that promotes collaboration and dialogue between institutions with significant collections of Islamic art around the world.

His Excellency Rakan Altouq is the Vice Chairman of the Diriyah Biennale Foundation and assistant minister of culture of Saudi Arabia. 

Dr Julian Raby is a co-director of the Diriyah Islamic Art Biennale and the Director Emeritus of the National Museum of Asian Art of the Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC (formerly known as the Freer Gallery of Art and the Arthur M Sackler Gallery). He served as director of these museums from 2002 until 2017, and previously, he was a university lecturer in Islamic Art & Architecture at the University of Oxford from 1979 until 2006.

Dr. Desmond Lazaro was born in 1968 in Leeds and is presently based in Pondicherry. Captivated by the historic painting traditions of Rajasthan, he studied for 12 years under Jaipur Master Bannu Ved Pal Sharma, to master miniature painting techniques. His PhD thesis on the Pichhwai painting tradition was submitted to the Prince’s School of Traditional Arts in London. He has researched and written on pigments, papers and cloth that he uses in his creative process. He follows the ancient tradition of creating pigments by hand from semi-precious mineral stone, organic, alchemical, and earth derivations, that are classified not by their color, but from where the pigment is derived. Dr Lazaro’s work, as well as his personal history, spans East and West, and his paintings have been exhibited extensively in India, the UK, and Germany.

Dr. Mariam Rosser-Owen completed her PhD in Islamic Art and Archaeology at the University of Oxford in 2002. She has been a curator in the Middle East Section at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (V&A) since then, specializing in the arts of the Arab world, with a particular focus on the Islamic Mediterranean and North Africa. She is the author of many publications: her books include Islamic Arts from Spain (2010) and Articulating the Hijaba: Cultural Patronage and Political Legitimacy in al-Andalus (2021). In 2015, she received an Art Fund New Collecting Award to research and acquire contemporary craft from Morocco, Tunisia, and Egypt. This project led to her curation of Contemporary Ceramic Art from the Middle East, exhibited at the V&A in 2021. Most recently, Dr. Rosser-Owen has led the research and re-display project on the V&A's Torrijos ceiling, a strapwork carpentry ceiling created in the late 15th century for a palace in Torrijos, near Toledo, in Spain. This will be on view at V&A East Storehouse when it opens at the end of May 2025.

Charwei Tsai is a Taiwanese-French multimedia artist and writer based in Taipei and Paris. Trained at Rhode Island School of Design and École des Beaux-Arts, she combines calligraphy, video, installation, and performance to explore memory, spirituality, and impermanence. Known for inscribing Buddhist sutras on organic materials, her work engages with nature and transformation. She has exhibited internationally, including at the Gwangju Biennale, Centre Pompidou, and Tate Modern, and is held in major public collections. She also founded the journal Lovely Daze, archived by Tate, MoMA, and Pompidou.

Mehdi Moutashar is an Iraqi-born artist whose minimalist abstractions draw deeply from Islamic geometry. Born in 1943 in Hilla near ancient Babylon, he studied in Baghdad and Paris and later taught at the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs. His work has been exhibited internationally, including recent solo shows at Mathaf in Doha and Lawrie Shabibi in Dubai. In 2018, he was awarded the Jameel Prize 5 at the Victoria and Albert Museum. Moutashar’s practice bridges tradition and modernity, and his works are held in major public and private collections worldwide. He lives and works in Arles, France.

مهدي مطشر فنان عراقي المولد، يستلهم أعماله التجريدية البسيطة من الزخارف الهندسية الإسلامية. ولد مطشر عام 1943 بمدينة الحلة قرب بابل القديمة، ودرس في بغداد وباريس، ثم درّس في المعهد الوطني العالي للفنون الزخرفية بفرنسا. عُرضت أعماله في مختلف المحافل الدولية، بما في ذلك عدة معارض فردية أقيمت مؤخراً في المتحف العربي للفن الحديث (متحف) بالدوحة، وفي معرض "لاوري شبيبي" بدبي. وفي عام 2018، حاز على جائزة جميل 5 في متحف فكتوريا وألبرت. تربط أعمال مطشر بين الأصالة والحداثة، وهي معروضة في عدد من أبرز المجموعات الفنية العامة والخاصة حول العالم. مطشر يقيم ويعمل في مدينة آرل الفرنسية
 

Muhannad Shono is a Saudi multidisciplinary artist whose work explores memory, identity, and the impact of censorship. Trained as an architect, his practice spans drawing, sculpture, and large-scale installations that often emerge from personal narratives and erased histories. Shono represented Saudi Arabia at the 2022 Venice Biennale with "The Teaching Tree" and exhibited "What Remains" at Desert X 2025. His work frequently uses elemental materials, sand, fabric, palm fronds, to evoke fragility and transformation. Based in Riyadh, he is curator of the 2025 Islamic Arts Biennale and the subject of a forthcoming monograph.

مهند شونو فنان سعودي متعدد المواهب، يستكشف من خلال أعماله الفنية عناصر الذاكرة والهوية والحاجة للتعبير الحر في عالم الفن. تدرب شونو كمهندس معماري، وتنوعت أعماله بين الرسم والنحت والأعمال الفنية التركيبية الضخمة التي غالباً ما يستلهمها من السرديات الشخصية والتاريخ غير المحكي. مثّل شونو المملكة العربية السعودية في بينالي البندقية 2022 من خلال عمله الفني "منطق الشجر"، وعمله الفني "ما تبقى" في معرض صحراء X 2025. في أعماله، يستخدم شونو مواد أولية بسيطة مثل الرمل والقماش وسعف النخيل، في محاولة منه لإبراز الهشاشة والقدرة على التحول. يقيم شونو في الرياض، وكان أحد القيّمين الفنيين على بينالي الفنون الإسلامية 2025، كما أنه موضوع دراسة مستقبلية

Dr Huseyin Sen is an aerospace engineer and a historian of science, specializing in the history of medieval Arabic science & technology. His engineering background has enabled him to engage with the history of science and technology in a profound way (numerical and hands-on) and at the same time has allowed him to build bridges between the education of history of science on one hand and education of science on the other. He is particularly interested in combining history of science with STEM/STEAM education, and in introducing and engaging students with technologies of the future such as 3D printing via history of science like by developing working replicas of ancient inventions by 3d printing. 

الدكتور حسين شِن هو مهندس طيران ومؤرخ علمي متخصص في تاريخ العلوم والتكنولوجيا العربية في العصور الوسطى. وقد مكنته خلفيته الهندسية من التعمق أكثر في تاريخ العلوم والتكنولوجيا، كما أتاحت له الربط بين تعليم تاريخ العلوم من جهة وتعليم العلوم من جهة أخرى. يركز د. شِن على الدمج بين تاريخ العلوم وتعليم العلوم والتكنولوجيا والهندسة والرياضيات، مع تعريف الطلاب بتقنيات المستقبل، مثل الطباعة ثلاثية الأبعاد، من خلال تاريخ العلوم، وذلك عبر تطوير نسخ مطابقة من الاختراعات القديمة باستخدام الطباعة ثلاثية الأبعاد. من أحدث مشاريعه لمكتبة الرئاسة التركية معرض بعنوان "تاريخ العلوم الإسلامية في 100 قطعة"، والذي يضم 100 قطعة، منها 87 نسخة طبق الأصل و13 مخطوطة علمية أصلية من العصور الوسطى. افتتح المعرض في أبريل 2021، وهو مستمر كمعرض متنقل منذ ذلك الحين. يتلقى د. شِن طلبات منتظمة لتحليل ووصف وتقييم الأدوات والمخطوطات العلمية العربية/الإسلامية من العصور الوسطى

Farah Abushullaih is the Head of Museum at the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra). She holds an MA in Museum Anthropology from Columbia University in New York, USA, and a BA in International Business and Intercultural Communications from Aston University in Birmingham, UK. Abushullaih joined the Ithra team in 2012 and worked as Lead Curator of the Great Hall exhibition space. During her time at Ithra, Abushullaih led the launching of a number of programs and initiatives that support the development of the Kingdom’s creative sector and provide a platform for cross-cultural engagement. With her team, she curated and developed several local and international exhibitions in collaboration and partnership with distinguished institutions. She has led bringing global art to the Kingdom, and in 2021 introduced the first immersive art exhibition that addresses the topic of sustainability in KSA.

Raja Khalidi was the Research Coordinator at MAS (2016-Nov 2019). He worked at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) from 1985 to 2013, and was the Coordinator of its Program of Assistance to the Palestinian people from 2000 to 2006. He spent his last five years at UNCTAD as the head of the Office of the Director of the Division of Globalization and Development Strategies, which led UNCTAD’s response to the global economic crisis and its participation in the G-20 process. He was also a consultative member of the Welfare Association (Taawon), a founding member of the Family Relief Fund in Palestine (Geneva), and a member of the MAS Board of Trustees from 2007 to 2013.

Rizwan Ahmad is a curator and researcher with over 15 years experience in cultural, historical, and archaeological projects in the Middle East. As Head of Research at Barker Langham, he leads a global team overseeing and ensuring the quality of research methodologies, processes, and outputs. He has worked with leading Gulf museums, including the Oman Across Ages Museum, the National Museum of Qatar, and the Al Shindagha Museum in Dubai, and was previously a curator at the British Museum. In 2023, he led the historic objects workstream for the inaugural Islamic Arts Biennale.

Sarah Al Abdali is an artist and curator that explores Arab culture and Islamic philosophy through painting, ceramics, and woodwork. A master's graduate of the Prince's School of Traditional Arts, she researches Hejazi material culture and exhibits internationally, including at the British Museum and Islamic Arts Biennale.

Dr. Bilal Badat is an archaeologist and art historian specializing in Islamic calligraphy. A senior researcher at Barker Langham, he has contributed to major Saudi cultural projects, including the Islamic Arts Biennale (2023). He earned his doctorate on pedagogy in Islamic calligraphy.
