MINI: Dr Angharad Rudkin on how divorce affects children24 Sep 202400:13:39

Welcome to Hurt to Healing with me, Pandora Morris. On today’s best bit, we revisit an insightful conversation with Dr. Angharad Rudkin, a child clinical psychologist, who explores how children typically respond to their parents' divorce.

Dr. Rudkin explains that children often blame themselves due to their egocentric and magical thinking, and how important it is for parents to constantly reassure them that the divorce isn’t their fault. She also touches on how divorce can impact younger children, teens, and the different ways boys and girls process these emotional changes over time.

Ruby Wax on how mindfulness helped her through bouts of depression17 Jan 202300:32:29

I am so thrilled to be kicking off Season 2 with the one and only Ruby Wax. Ruby has been a dream guest of mine since I had my first thought about starting this podcast. Ruby famously left her career in comedy 25 years ago to seek a way to fix her reoccurring bouts of depression. Ruby has been very open about her struggles with bipolar disorder and depression, going on to study a Master’s degree in mindfulness-based cognitive therapy at Oxford University and has since become a devout mental health campaigner.

Ruby is now a bestselling author of mental health and runs Frazzled Cafe: an online space for people to connect when they’re not feeling ok. In this episode, Ruby talks about fascinating issues around mental health, the science behind why we might feel ‘frazzled’ and the impact that mindfulness has had on her depression.

HEALING 101: How BDD develops and how we can treat it with Dr Amita Jassi15 Dec 202200:24:02

On today's Healing 101 I am speaking to Dr Amita Jassi, a consultant, clinical psychologist at the National and Specialist OCD, BDD and Related Disorder Service for Children and Young People. Body dysmorphic disorder affects about one in 50 people. We discuss why it's such a debilitating condition, why there is a lack of insight into it and I ask her about what treatment and therapies are available. If you or someone you know may be struggling to cope with it, if you haven't already, I would also highly recommend you listen to my conversation with Charlie King as he speaks so eloquently about the condition.

Charlie King shares his experience of living with body dysmorphia13 Dec 202200:44:30

If you're a big fan of reality TV, some of you might be familiar with my next guest. Charlie King was once famed for his role on The Only Way Is Essex and known best for his very dramatic relationship with the one and only Gemma Collins. The series followed his attempts to become more of a man as he started changing what he wore and how he spoke in a bid to fit in. He then had a brief departure from the show during which time he came out as being gay.

Since leaving the show in 2015, he has struggled with both depression and body dysmorphic disorder. The pandemic was a challenging time for all of us. And Charlie admits that psychologically he was not in a good place, which led him to get surgery on his nose. Charlie now uses his platform to call for mental health awareness on this issue, and I'm so glad to be able to get the chance to talk to him about it today.

Charlie King is an ambassador for the Body Dysmorphia Foundation: https://bddfoundation.org/

HEALING 101: What you should know about gambling addiction with Dr Timothy Fong08 Dec 202200:29:28

On today's Healing 101 I am joined by Dr. Timothy Fong, a clinical professor of psychiatry at the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behaviour at UCLA. Dr. Fong specialises in addiction and today I am asking him about gambling disorders and why they're becoming increasingly prevalent in today's society. I asked him about how these disorders develop, what the signs are that someone's gambling is becoming a problem, and what impact gambling can have on our mental health. While it might be referred to as a hidden illness because there are no obvious signs or symptoms. The addiction is very similar to that of drugs and alcohol and I think it's important we understand the science behind why gambling is so addictive.

Theo Fennell on life before and after sobriety06 Dec 202200:27:32

Today, I'm thrilled to be joined by the very talented jeweller, Theo Fennell. Or as he's otherwise known as the 'King of Bling' in the early days of Theo's career. He was a notable socialite who had a slightly unhealthy relationship with alcohol. Theo has since scaled down his partying and gave up alcohol many years ago. Theo has since opened up about his partying ways in his memoir called 'I Fear For This Boy'. It's focused entirely on his greatest accidents. One notable story being an alcohol fuelled presentation at Tiffany & Co, which I won't spoil, but it's definitely worth the read.

Today I talk to him all about why he decided to stop drinking, how becoming sober has transformed his life and how his outlook on the world has changed as a result.

HEALING 101: Understanding anorexia with Dr Michael Strober01 Dec 202200:17:58

On today's healing one day one, I am talking to Dr. Michael Strober, a distinguished professor of psychiatry and the director of the Eating Disorders Program at the Neuropsychiatric Institute since 1982. His research centres on risk factors and eating disorders and the long term course outcome and treatment of them. As someone who has suffered from an eating disorder myself, this is an episode I was very keen to do.

We discuss what to do if you think someone is on the verge of an eating disorder and why someone perhaps suffers from the disorder in the first place. This is a fascinating HEALING 101 with one of the most interesting men I've ever had the pleasure of talking to.

Christa D'Souza on learning how to overcome an eating disorder29 Nov 202200:39:09

Christa D'Souza is a mother and a British features journalist who contributes to many publications, including British Vogue, The Guardian, The Sunday Times and many more. Christa is known for her articles, which often cover body issues such as ageing, anorexia and cosmetic surgery. Her writing is often praised for her humour and honesty and sometimes her controversial subject matter.

I wanted to speak to Christa today to discuss something she hasn't spoken about in too much detail before - her own struggle with an eating disorder and addictions. Christa is so unbelievably open in this conversation and discusses how she has learned to turn her previous pain into her power. And her own story has given me hope that these invisible bullies can be defeated.

HEALING 101: What can we do to prevent suicide? with Professor Rory O'Connor24 Nov 202200:15:51

On today's Healing 101, I'm joined by Professor Rory O'Connor, the professor of health psychology at Glasgow University and director of the Suicidal Behaviour Research Laboratory, the leading suicide and self-harm research group in Scotland. He is also the author of When It Is Darkest Why People Die by Suicide and What We Can Do to Prevent It. Suicide can affect any one of us, and one person dies by suicide every 40 seconds. Yet, despite the scale of the devastation for family members and friends, suicide is still poorly understood.

In today's episode, Professor O'Connor helps to untangle the complex reasons behind suicide and dispels any unhelpful myths for those who might be trying to help someone vulnerable. It will provide indispensable advice on communication and stresses the importance of listening to fears and anxieties without judgment.

Battling schizophrenia and one life changing moment with Jonny Benjamin and Neil Laybourn22 Nov 202200:32:56

I am thrilled to be joined by not one but two wonderful men for today's episode. Jonny Benjamin and Neil Laybourn first met in early 2008 when Neil approached Jonny who was sitting on the edge of Waterloo Bridge and asked if he was alright. The conversation that followed changed their lives forever. Fast forward 14 years and a huge social media campaign later and the two are not only great friends but work together to improve the public's understanding of mental health and to champion suicide prevention.

Their story proves the role we can all play in helping each other and has helped to eradicate the stigma that surrounds schizophrenia and suicide by bravely sharing their story. They have opened doors for so many others to do the same. I'm so thrilled to be talking to them both today and to hear about how that day changed both their lives. This conversation really struck a chord with me. It's powerful, inspiring, and proves that we can have faith in humanity.

HEALING 101: What to eat for anxiety with Rosemary Ferguson17 Nov 202200:25:12

I'm thrilled to be joined today by former model, turned nutritional therapist and author, Rosemary Ferguson. Food is a tricky subject for many of us, myself included, and I was keen to find out what sparked her interest in nutrition, having come from a modelling background qualifying as a nutritionist and naturopath in 2009. Whereas now she works from a central London clinic whilst writing for publications such as Vogue and Tatler. Rosemary is passionate about the power of good nutrition and is very vocal about how crucial our diets are for reducing anxiety and ultimately improving our mental health.

Alexandra Shulman on her crippling anxiety and rejecting stereotypes 15 Nov 202200:32:21

I am thrilled to be joined today by one of my career idols, Alexandra Shulman. Alexandra is a former British Vogue editor, the longest standing editor in Vogue's history and someone I've looked up to for many years. You may have thought that she had it all, but even the strongest of people are fighting their own battles. Today, I wanted to ask her about her life before Vogue, how she felt when she was criticised for not looking like the stereotypical Vogue editor and how she coped juggling both motherhood and an unstoppable career. I'm so grateful to Alex for opening up on this episode and for sharing her vulnerabilities as it just proves how insecurities have an impact on all of us.

Why we still fail to recognise PTSD with Radhika Sanghani08 Nov 202200:36:44

I am honoured to be joined for today's episode by the award winning journalist and author Radhika Sanghani. Radhika regularly writes on women's issues and lifestyle topics for titles such as The Telegraph, The Daily Mail, The Guardian, the BBC, Grazia and Elle Magazine. Radhika also gave an extremely successful TEDx talk called How to Love Yourself and is now a body positive campaigner. Her third novel, which was published at the start of 2022, is called 30 Things I Love About Myself and is loosely based on her own self-love journey.

You might be sitting there thinking Radhika has had it easy and has a career that you can't help but be jealous of. But the truth is, Radhika has had her own struggles. In her twenties, she was diagnosed with PTSD as a result of a coach crash that she survived in Thailand. She wrote an article about how she struggled to come to terms with her own situation because of the way society as a whole views this mental health disorder as a result of her own experience. She is working towards redefining our definition of PTSD and is working towards crushing the stigma that still surrounds it.

HEALING 101: What is OCD? with Professor David Veale03 Nov 202200:20:44

I am honoured to be joined today by Professor David Veale, a consultant psychiatrist in London who specialises in obsessive compulsive disorder. As you might already know, I have frustratingly suffered from this mental health condition for many years now, but it always amazes me how little people actually know about it. The aim of this episode is to ask Professor Veale the questions you might have never had the opportunity to ask and to educate those of you who might want to know more about the condition and how you might be able to treat it. So whether it's beneficial for you or for a friend, I hope that this episode with Professor David Veale helps put OCD into simple terms.

Recovering from eating disorders and changing the way we speak to ourselves with Emmy Brunner01 Nov 202200:47:19

Today, I'm joined by the wonderful Emmy Brunner. Emmy is a master of many. She's a psychotherapist, personal empowerment and transformation coach, hypnotherapist, CEO of the Recover Clinic in London and a bestselling author.

As a teenager, Emmy suffered from anorexia and had a tendency to self-harm which led her into a series of abusive relationships. Emmy then left her partner and worked hard at improving her life for herself and her daughter, realising she'd created a valuable toolkit for herself. She decided to train as a psychotherapist and to set up The Recover Clinic. Emmy specialises in helping people recover from anxiety, eating disorders and depression. And in today's episode, we talk about how to have a better relationship with ourselves, how to break free from your own rules, and the holistic approach to treatment where we can take into account both the mind and the body. Emmy's ongoing mission is to help people live a joyful life and to overcome their limiting beliefs. I can't wait for you to listen to this incredibly powerful conversation.

An interview with Anneka Rice on my mental health journey25 Oct 202200:26:08

I wanted to start the podcast with a very special episode and an incredibly special person who has known me for many years. Anneka Rice is a TV presenter, radio host, author and artist who has known me since I was a little girl. She's witnessed a lot of my journey, and I thought there was no better way to begin the podcast than to have her to ask me a few questions so that you can all get to know me a little better and understand why I'm really doing this podcast.

Anneka has witnessed my ongoing struggle with OCD and an eating disorder. In this interview she asks me about my early childhood and the impact that it might have had on my mental health, my school life and the early manifestations of the OCD and anorexia. We also discuss what help I have received over the years and how I struggled during my 20s and battled my illnesses alongside being a lawyer.

This conversation will hopefully give you a bit of an insight into my journey and as the series continues you will get to know me more!

MINI: Spencer Matthews on his attitude towards exercise 17 Sep 202400:11:03

Today, I wanted to share a special clip from a previous conversation with someone many of you might know—Spencer Matthews. Spencer has just completed an incredible feat: 30 marathons in 30 days in the desert, setting a brand-new world record. It's an extraordinary achievement, but what really struck me when we spoke was his attitude towards exercise.

I was curious to know if his intense focus on fitness was something he used to replace drinking, or if it had become an addiction in itself. What I discovered was a man deeply passionate about setting challenges for himself and pushing his own limits.

As we’re in between seasons, I wanted to start resharing a few clips from some of your favourite episodes as a reminder of the brilliant guests and fascinating conversations we’ve had so far. So, here’s a snippet from my chat with Spencer Matthews—enjoy!
