Rescue workers are desperately searching for survivors after a powerful earthquake struck central Myanmar. The shocks were so powerful that tremors rocked neighboring China and Thailand, where many are also missing after buildings collapsed.

Myanmar declared a state of emergency across much of the country. At least 144 people are known to have died and more than 700 are injured but it’s feared that many more have lost their lives. The epicenter of the 7.7 magnitude quake was near the country's second city of Mandalay. An executive for U.S. Bank is believed to be the only person on board the plane that crashed into a Brooklyn Park home on Saturday.

A representative with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said that preliminary information shows one person was on the plane.

U.S. Bank shared a statement saying they believe Vice Chair and Chief Administration Officer Terry Dolan died in the crash.

The full statement says, "We are aware of reports that the plane that crashed in Brooklyn Park was registered to Terry Dolan, our vice chair and chief administration officer. At this time, we are unable to confirm whether he was on board, but we believe he was. Our thoughts and prayers are with him, his family and friends, and anyone who may have been affected by yesterday’s tragic incident. We are grateful that there were not any injuries to residents of the home that was impacted by the crash, and we thank all the first responders who have provided service."

Harvard undergraduate tuition will be free for students from families making $200,000 or less, starting next fall, the university announced Monday in its latest effort to provide an Ivy League education to those who might otherwise be priced out.

Attending Harvard will be free for students from families making $100,000 or less. The university will also cover housing, health insurance, and travel costs between campus and home.

Undergraduate tuition at Harvard College was more than $56,000 this year, while the total cost of attendance was almost $83,000, according to the institution’s financial aid website. (Harvard College is the university's undergraduate institution.)

The announcement builds on the Harvard Financial Aid Initiative, which was launched in 2004 to make college affordable for people of all economic backgrounds. Since its inception, the initiative has raised its income threshold several times, and currently, students from families with incomes under $85,000 attend Harvard for free.

Throughout the five tense days, cars have been set on fire, smoke bombs have been thrown, and pepper bullets have been fired off in multiple directions across downtown Los Angeles, Paramount, Westlake, and Santa Ana. Mayor Karen Bass has declared a local emergency and issued a curfew in the downtown LA area.

The curfew will begin on Tuesday, June 10, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Bass said the curfew is expected to last for several days.

A white police officer was acquitted today in the killing of an unarmed Black man in April, an incident that sparked the city's worst racial unrest in three decades. The officer, Stephen Roach, had been charged with negligent homicide and obstructing official business in the death of Timothy Thomas, 19, whom he shot in a dark alley early on April 7, 2001.

One person is dead and at least five other people were injured early Sunday morning in a shooting on the campus of Elizabeth City State University, the school announced.

According to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, a shooting happened around 12:30 a.m. on the campus of Elizabeth City State University.

A small plane crashed in upstate New York, killing all six people on board, officials said, coming just days after a helicopter plummeted into the Hudson River.

The Mitsubishi MU-2B was headed to Columbia County Airport in Hudson, New York, when it crashed into an open field near Copake, a small town located about 20 miles southeast of the airport, around 12:15 p.m. local time on April 12, the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement.

The aircraft went down on Two Town Road near Copake and did not damage any structures, Undersheriff Jacqueline Salvatore said at a news conference.
