In this installment of our patron deity series we're off to beautiful kingdom of Ancient Rome. As we read more about the imminent threat to our reproductive rights, we feel the goddess stirring.  This weeks episode is a little different than the rest of our Patron Deity Series because we believe it's important to have these conversations and not be afraid to discuss politics when they impact all of us, and we believe the goddess Minerva would absolutely agree. Join as  we explore the Roman goddess's mythology and how she can inspire our own actions today.

Welcome back Wayward Ones to part 3 of our Patron Deity Series! The point of this series is to introduce the lore and practice behind different deities, see if one speaks to you. These episodes are a lot of folklore and a lot fun so witches and non alike can all enjoy! We’ve seen the ancient pyramids of Egypt, the caverns of Greece and the fields of China but this week we travel to a pantheon beyond the clouds where a majestic golden hall shines brightly and peacefully. The roof is made of golden shields, the rafters from warriors spears.  The great tree, Glasir, stands at the entrance, the most beautiful tree in existance, full of gold and red leaves, glowing in the sunlight. An aroma of roasting boar and spiced meads fill the air. Now that you have the beautiful image of Valhalla in your mind, plunge through the clouds to the earth. Through the earth. Farther and farther. Where everything gets dark and quiet and cold. 

 The deity I bring you today has a similar dichotomy. She can be described as terrifying and dangerous, or a kind and welcoming caretaker. Her face reflected this duality as well. She was half beautiful goddess, half decayed.  Hel was believed to hold dominion over all death, including that of the gods, arguably making her the most powerful deity in Norse mythology. Welcome to the Witching Hour.

Welcome back, Wayward Ones, to the next chapter in our Patron Deity Series. The point of this series is to introduce a variety on deities from pantheons all over the world and share a little about their stories and how you can involve them in your every day practice. See if one speaks to you. And if they don’t, well. We can promise we’re having way too much fun putting these episodes together and they’ll still be fun for you too! Last week we went to ancient Egypt to explore the feline goddess herself, Bast. This week we’ll be traveling through dense forests, ancient mountains and the historic Great Wall. Think flowing rivers, fields of rice, and the looming presence of Mount Everest on the Horizon. That’s right. We’re headed to China and getting into the great Lunar Goddess Chang’e.  As always, there’s several versions of the story you’re about to hear. We went with the one we thought fit best here with us today. Welcome to the Witching Hour.

Welcome to our first episode of the Patron Deity Series! . In an effort to build on the foundations we’ve started here at The Witching Hour, one of the most common questions we’ve received is how do you pick a deity for your practice? And how can you honor them within your practice?

So every few weeks we'll be doing shorter but more focused episodes on specific deities to help you on your journey! And our first episode is a BANGER. You know we love the drama and a few good laughs so kick back and enjoy.
