You Could Just Not...08 Oct 202400:46:21

Come with us as we explore this through-line in both the figurative and literal senses, touching on topics like new car sales, market trends, and the imminent demise of a storied designer’s latest attempt at branding. And who remembers the Plymouth Prowler?

Unintended Consequences24 Sep 202401:15:31

When you’ve got an illuminated 7-foot-tall middle finger on a pole, it’s pretty clear.

The main issue is a denied building permit, but the giant obscene gesture? Totally allowed. The State can’t stop it.

It’s been there since 2018, and it’s probably not what Vermont legislator Ted Riehle had in mind when he pushed through the state’s billboard ban 55 years ago.

The Finger’s not a billboard, and it doesn’t advertise anything. But it is a sign. Of unintended consequences.

Project Car Hell17 Feb 202301:03:11

Project cars are never done and they're rarely easy, right? This week Jeff talks about the issues he's sorting out on the Jag before it heads over to the smog shop. And out of nowhere, the Montero alternator died in the middle of a drive. Ron is also having issues sorting out minor issues on a project Porsche he helped manage for a friend.

After that we talk briefly about the Tesla news related to the recall, then dive into your questions.

Let's stroll down YouTube comment memory lane26 Sep 201800:58:29

There's no news this week. It's time, instead, to dive into the past three months of comments on YouTube. This means we're going to find confusing messages. We'll find hateful messages. We will find the sort of stuff that people typically wouldn't have the guts to see to another person face to face. And we will laugh, and we will enjoy it all.

Everyone loves a ten incher [w/guest Jonathon Klein]19 Sep 201800:53:56

Friend of Hooniverse Jonathon Klein joins us on show this week. First up, we dip into the news where we discuss:

  • BMW not building an M version of the Z4 or giving a manual gearbox option.
  • Audi revealing the e-tron electric SUV.
  • Pricing been announced for the Ford Edge ST.
  • Waze is now usable with Apple CarPlay

After that, Klein tells us what it's like to drive a Bugatti Chiron. The lucky bastard also drove David Lee's Monza 3.6 Evo Ferrari Dino restomod.

Farewell to the W1612 Sep 201800:49:56

Chris and I kick things off by discussing the fact that Bugatti will not be building more W16 engines in the future. Rolls-Royce believes nanobots are the future of engine maintenance. BMW has a self-riding motorycle in the works. After the news we switch gears to answer some questions before talking about what we've been driving and doing.

Talking 'bout that Gridlife05 Sep 201800:51:10

Josh Ostrander joins us on the show. He recently returned from Gridlife in Atlanta, where he saw drift cars, time attack machines, and late-night music performances all at the same venue. We also talk about the insanity that is a $180,000 2002 BMW M5, answer your questions, and talk about our own cars.

As for press cars, this week it's the new Hyundai Veloster R-Spec.

Needs more power (supply)30 Aug 201800:52:21

There's some solid news this week. Audi plans to offer an extremely limited run of manual transmission Audi A4 sedans. These will be designated as Ultrasport models and only 40 will be built. Jeep is launching its first limited-edition JL Wrangler with the new Moab Edition. Formula E wants an off-road racing series and will call it Extreme E. Finally, DriveTribe is a black hole for cash.

After slogging through the news it is on to your questions before diving into what's going on with us. That includes a trip to Yosemite with the Audi S5 Sportback, getting my Benz fixed, and being hopefully that The Wombat will start on its new path beginning next week.

Now with video!22 Aug 201800:55:27

Chris finished the studio and we've got video cameras, which means there's going to be a live-streaming version of this podcast on YouTube. As we record the show, we'll do it live but also still offer up the audio-only version through ShoutEngine. In the post on Hooniverse, I will place both the video and the audio versions so you can choose which one you'd prefer.

In this episode, we talk about:

-Aston Martin announces the power output of the Valkyrie's 6.5-liter V12 engine.

-A 2002 BMW M5 is estimated to fetch $140,000 to $180,000 at auction during Monterey Car Week

-Toyota is pricing the Tundra TRD Pro within a grand of the Ford Raptor

-A crash-damaged Porsche 959 is going to be auctioned at Pebble Beach.

After that we dive into your questions before chatting about our own rides. My Benz is running hot which is leading to some stumbling issues. The Wombat might have an engine lined up. Chris is still happy with his new-to-him Porsche Macan. I spent a week in a Dodge Charger Dayona 392 and will be swapping into an Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio this weekend.

This one fits in your ass15 Aug 201800:50:26

Chris and I are back in the studio and we've got some news on our own cars. Mine is that the Wombat no longer plays host to a non-running HEMI and transmission. Those are out, sold, and gone! Chris has bigger news in that he bought a Porsche Macan S as his new daily driver. His Ford Fiesta will be up for sale soon as well.

In this episode we also chat about Rally Rd, which is a very interesting project that sales shares in vintage cars. It's basically a stock market of sorts for expensive old machines.

Finally, we dive into your questions before realizing it's getting late in the summer season and no one cars about podcasts right now.

Baja Before and After01 Aug 201800:38:56

Josh Ostrander and I head on off to Baja to drive the Wide Open Buggy down in the Mexican desert. This podcast is recorded in two parts; the first part is on the way down to Mexico and the second is in the car on the way home from the border. What do we talk about? Well... I mean, I kind of told you that already. It's about what we think Baja will be like and then talking about how the trip went in the second half.

Listen in and I hope you enjoy this one.

Old Benzes and Adi Desai25 Jul 201800:38:28

Friend of Hooniverse Adi Desai joins me on this episode of the Hooniverse Podcast. Adi is in town visiting from Canada, where he is part of the team that runs http://doubleclutch.ca/. Adi happens to enjoy big old Benzes like I do, so we chat about his 560SEL. We also happen to have stopped at the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center just before recording... so we've clearly got Benz on the brain in an extra strength dosage.

Come to town... [Solo Episode]18 Jul 201800:33:01

Chris is on the East Coast so I'm sitting solo on this one. That means I'm down in my garage, sitting in the front seat of my Benz, with a glass of wine in my hand... and a podcast microphone in the other. Topics this week include a dash of news;

  • Goodwood highlights
  • Aston Martin DBX to get its own platform
  • Toyota will offer an four-cylinder engine for the Supra... someday

After that it's on to the questions, and you have some good ones this week. Really, you have good ones every week. Finally, we dive into a bit of my own car stuff. I just spent a week with the Lexus GX460 and you can find a review of tht truck on Truck Central right now. Later, Josh Ostrander and I are heading south of the border to drive buggys with Wide Open Baja. Additionally, my 1974 W114 Benz is fixed up and back home.

Clash comes back to LA10 Feb 202300:58:46

Ron tells us all about the 2nd NASCAR Clash at the Coliseum. We take a look at some recent new car news. I talk about my time with the Kia EV6 GT and the Volvo V60 Polestar. And then we answer some of your questions

Everything's coming up Elon?11 Jul 201800:51:19

Chris and I walk through a bit of the news to kick of episode 256. On tap, we have to talk about:

  • BMW moving some production to China.
  • The Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster that sold for $3.7MM
  • VW bringing its ID R to Goodwood
  • Honda has built a Mean Mower V2

After that we dive into all of your questions before talking a bit about what we've got going on ourselves. I spent a week in the GMC Canyon Denali and I've since swapped into a Volvo V90. Additionally, my Benz comes back this week and then later this month I'm heading to Baja to drive a Wide Open Buggy.

Delay in Game06 Jul 201801:16:00

This one's late but we have EXCUSES!

1) It was the the 4th of July.

2) Chris had to deal with his lame as Internet provider.

3) That's it... we're sorry

In this episode we have Jonathon Klein and Patrick Costello on the show. There's a bit of news but then we once again dive into the world of automotive television. Patrick provides great insight while Jonathon and I realize we're never going to be famous.

Like ever.

Rick takes it to the track [Part Two]27 Jun 201801:02:06

Welcome to Part Two of my conversation with Rick Radcliffe and his vehicular adventures. We're picking up right where we left off last week, which was in a discussion of the various track events that Rick has been enjoying. He's only had his Subaru WRX for a little bit, but he's already making the most of this one.

Rick takes it to the track [Part One]20 Jun 201801:03:19

Rick Radcliffe is once again on the show. He's stopping by to tell us a bit about his current garage situation and then we dive into what he's doing with his new daily driver. A Subaru WRX that is being used around town but also out on the track.

We run a bit long so I've decided to break this up into two parts. Today you'll get Part One and next week we will run Part Two. Here we also get into a bit of the news while your questions wind up in the second episode.

Exploring the new space13 Jun 201800:51:41

We're in Chris' new apartment and we're not in full studio mode yet, but we still want to run things a bit old school while exploring the new. So for Ep252 we bring it back to the original format; The News!

We kick things off by talking about the Aston Martin Rapide AMR, Forza Horizon 4, the Shelby GT350, and Rolls-Royce's Cars and Cognac event. After that it's time to talk about our own cars and what we're driving. This week I'm in an Audi R8 Spyder before I swap into a Lexus LC500. The following week I get a chance to sample the new F-150 diesel and I'll be towing a small Airstream behind.

Finally, we move on to your questions. Patreon first, as always, then Twitter and Facebook. This old format feels right, so we're going to run it this way for awhile and get back into our groove.

Damned Embargo06 Jun 201800:59:12

Fresh off the Nissan Kicks launch Manuel Carillo joins me in the future home of the podcast to record amongst the clutter of my many unpacked boxes. This week we discuss a little bit about the Kicks (much of the trip was still embargoed) Manuel fills me in on the new Mustang Peformance Pack 2, we geek out on car audio gear and I reflect on just how ridiculous it is to drive a full size truck in a major city like Los Angeles with my review of the Chevrolet Silverado HD2500 High Country Duramax ultramega torque monster 7200.

It's the Blake and Jonathon show!30 May 201800:36:53

Blake BZR Rong returns alongside friend of Hooniverse Jonathon Klein to deliver an on-the-road podcast. The pair are attending a press event in Utah and they decided to sit down and chat about all things automotive. Well, first they make fun of Chris and I and then they get to talking about cars.. eventually.

Regardless, they're funny and you should listen.

We peaked awhile ago23 May 201800:58:33

Josh Ostrander joins Chris Hayes and Jeff Glucker on this episode of the podcast. We're recording at 4 Sons Brewing once again, and we have a few things to talk about. Josh still enjoys his boring Alltrack. Chris still wants to sell his Fiesta. I still need to fix things on my Benz.

Also I drove an Aston Martin DB11 AMR, and I can't tell you how that went just yet. But go look at the released specs compared to the current DB11 V12, and read the press release to see the changes and you'll have a good idea of what's going on there.

Finally, we dive into some questions before I cut them off to talk negatively about someone else... for good reason.

Pizza Interruptus09 May 201800:41:38

I'm solo. Not Solo. Though that would be fun...

This is a solo episode, and today I'm talking about my two Benz project cars. The one that drives and the one that doesn't. After that, it's question time, and we have plenty of those to run through. We'll cover everything from project cars, more thoughts on what Ford is doing, and maybe even talk a bit about beer.

Hit play and enjoy Episode 248.

What makes for good automotive TV? [w/ Patrick Costello]02 May 201800:47:28

Patrick Costello joins me on this episode of the podcast and we walk about automotive television. He's an Executive Producer for Truck Night in America and we worked together on Top Gear US (when it was still good, on the History channel). So we wanted to talk a bit about what goes into making a show, why other shows don't work, and what we do like out of certain shows.

After that we dive into your questions. Also we're recording from a brewery - thanks again Four Sons Brewing!

Car Flipping Failure02 Feb 202301:12:07

I... forgot to post this one. Oops! In it, Ron and I discuss some recent car flipping failures that could be a sign that the market is normalizing. Who knows for sure though... (Not us, that's for damn sure!)

Infiniti War and the HCU?27 Apr 201800:43:40

Associate Video Producer Josh Ostrander joins me in an Infiniti QX60 as we drive to the other side of Los Angeles to see the new Avengers Infinity War film. Along the way, we talk about an old Mustang, Josh's new Volkswagen, my Benz wagon, Ford's no-more-cars decision, and a few other bits and pieces along the way.

We didn't crash. So thumbs up for that!

Casa de Klapman18 Apr 201801:14:28

Jeff had to step out this week... something something I'm a father... something something daugter...  so I took the chance to meet up with Hooniverse regular Zack Klapman for a one-on-one catch up.  This week we cover the Long Beach Grand Prix, the recent passing of the "One Take" reigns to Zack and my deliberations on a new daily.

Quite a Vas Deferens Here11 Apr 201800:56:56

The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio has joined the party! I'm driving the Italian sports sedan this quick and so far *knock on wood* it hasn't broken down. That's amazing considering the car has done that for pretty much everyone else that's driven it.

Beyond that we talk a bit about Chris' upcoming potential car purchase, my Benz duo, and an upcoming loan of the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk.

After that it's question time, and as always, you folks have some good ones.

All the Duallys! [w/guest Elana Scherr]28 Mar 201801:02:59

Elana Scherr, formally of Hot Rod and Roadkill, joins us in the podcast studio to talk all things car. She has a hell of a growing fleet on her hands, and we have to dive in and see what is going on with a handful of those rides. Most notable might be her 1970 Dodge Challenger, which has seen its 440 engine swapped out for a race-prepped 505.

After taking a deep dive into the world of too-many duallys and Mopar madness in different states of repair, it's time for your questions.

Randomness of life21 Mar 201801:06:21

Friend of Hooniverse Jonathon Klein stops by to join us in the studio. We talk about some of the fast machines that Klein has driven lately, and that includes the Lamborghini Huracan Performante, Scarbo open-wheel vintage Ferrari tribute race car, and a few McLarens. After that I remind everyone that the new Jeep Wrangler is really good before we dive on into your questions.

Wranglin'14 Mar 201801:11:45

Spoiler alert: the new Jeep Wrangler is good! The 2018 Chevy Silverado, however, isn't so great. What's also good is a Kia Stinger GT AWD that wears snow tires and is let loose on a winter driving course. Those are the main topics this week, but we also tackle your podcast questions.

Finally, we dip into some upcoming vehicles and then also try out a new segment at the end of the podcast. It's a talk about some photo/video/travel gear. This time around we cover the Wandrd Access duffel, Mavic Air, and some upgraded ear pads for the Audio-Technica ATH M50x headphones.

TRD Sweatbox07 Mar 201800:28:44

I'm sitting in a Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport, and it's getting hotter. Regardless, I have things to say and a recorder to capture it all. Topics this week include the Tahoe RST, Tacoma TRD Sport, a trip to Colorado to drive a Kia, and some potential news on a bigger trip coming up in May.

Also, we touch on a bit of the news out of Geneva. Specifically, the reveals of the Rimac C_Two and the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro.

Finally, I'm excited to try out a new camera bag and I touch on that towards the end of the episode.

The Armada28 Feb 201801:06:30

We're back in the studio! Joining Chris Hayes and myself is friend of Hooniverse Manuel Carillo III. You can find his work at his website MC3films. The three of us sit down to talk about a few cars before we're interrupted by; tangents, not cars, and more gunfire. Good times!

Topics covered include: Chris' cars, a brief note on Manuel's #ProjectStork Porsche, the Chevy Colorado ZR2, and the Audi RS 5.

Hellcatting along21 Feb 201800:24:12

Solo episode recorded from inside the ridealong chamber of the 2018 Dodge Challenger Hellcat W I D E B O I.

Also, I chat briefly about heading off to sample the new Audi RS5, some updates to my Mercedes-Benz 280 sedan, and touch on a few of the vehicles coming to Hooniverse in the next few weeks and months.

Sorry for the short solo episode, we'll be back in the studio soon.

Dan Sandberg Brembo - SEMA 2017 Finale07 Feb 201800:32:59

Dan Sandberg CEO of Brembo North America joins us once again as our final guest at SEMA 2017.  Dan shares his personal experience podcasting, a couple of Jay Leno stories, how he keeps an open dialog among such a massive organization his personal experience podcasting, and of course Brembo products and development.  In addition, Dan just bought himself the very nice gift of a brand new 911 Turbo so of course, we get into that.

Once again thanks to our friends at Magnaflow for hosting us and check out their products at https://www.magnaflow.com/

Mental Block13 Jan 202301:22:50

We're back after a holiday break, and we have to talk a little bit about the tragic loss that happened while we were away. RIP KB43.

After that, we chat a bit about what we did over the break and then dive into some great questions from all of you.

Ride along in a 2018 Mustang with Engineering Explained's Jason Fenske30 Jan 201800:31:54

Jason Fenske is the man behind the popular Engineering Explained YouTube channel. He and I are shuttling out to a driving event in Palm Springs, and I took the opportunity to fire up a GoPro and record a conversation. We'll learn a bit about Jason's Honda S2000 and Subaru Crosstrek, how he started the channel, and where he see it all going down the road.

...as we roll on down the road in the 2018 Mustang.

Sitting solo in a Mustang24 Jan 201800:30:19

Time to send out a solo episode, and this one comes to you from the cabin of a 2018 Ford Mustang. I'm sitting in my garage talking to myself while a Zoom H6 records my dulcet tones.

Topics for today include; the aforementioned Mustang, driving the new Subaru WRX STI Type RA and BRZ tS, and heading off to Corsica to sample the Jaguar E-Pace. There's also some news on my 74 Benz and a plea for help on the Wombat. After that it's time for some questions from our Patreon peeps.

Live from Burbank... it's the Ring Brothers17 Jan 201800:52:17

This week Jon Klein and I venture into the wilds of Burbank California to meet up with friends of the show, Mike and Jim Ring, aka The Ring Brothers.  The guys flew in to show off their amazing 1972 AMX Javelin on Jay Leno's Garage.

With an astounding track record for delivering machines as beautiful as they are well-engineered the Javelin does not disapoint.  The Javelin is good for north of 1000HP utilizing a Hellcat engine topped off with a Whipple twins-screw supercharger.

Check out the Ring Brothers amazing builds at https://ringbrothers.com

APR - SEMA 201710 Jan 201800:34:29

The penultimate episode in our SEMA series has Jeff and I sitting down with the gentlemen from APR.  We cover just about everything in the APR universe from basic Jetta tunes all the way up to their Lamborghini and R8 offerings. One thing was VERY clear, the APR boys love them some turbochargers.

Thanks again to our friends at Magnaflow for hosting us at SEMA 2017.

Back in action03 Jan 201800:54:21

We've missed you! It's been a lot of SEMA episodes, but those episodes enable us to give you ear-hole content while taking in a much-needed holiday break. That break is now over, and we're back in the studio talking car stuff (and all the other crap that rambles into our vapid brains).

Josh Ostrander joins us in the studio for this episode. We talk about his first time in Baja, how we met, and how he's moved from a few entry jobs into a full-time video gig with a large company.

Also... car stuff!

Too Many Podcasters (Musto, Farah, Kosilla) - SEMA 201720 Dec 201700:44:10

Nearing the end of SEMA 2017 we managed to wrangle a bunch of our friends onto the show for what is best described as Automotive Attention Deficit Disorder.  This episode we welcome Mike Musto and Colin Sebern (House of Muscle) Larry Kosila (AMMO Autocare & Drive + Protect) David Meyer of Turbonetics/Precision Turbo, Matt Farah (The Smoking Tire & /Drive on NBC) and of course the dulcet tones of Jeff Glucker and myself (Chris Hayes).

We should all thanks the jerks at Borla for purposely attempting to drown us out the entire week of recording with their egregious speaker setup by only buying products from our VERY GRACIOUS HOSTS MAGNAFLOW for setting up stage space for ShoutEngine podcasts.

Hellwig Products - SEMA 201713 Dec 201700:32:18

Another in our SEMA series of episode (only 3 more left) Jeff and I welcome Hellwig to the podcast. Hellwig are purveyors of suspension upgrades for a vast array of trucks.  While Hellwig has a handle on improving overall street performance they hold an interesting niche in massively improving suspension performance for heavy loads and towing.  In short Hellwig products will remove the "pucker factor" that can be associated with the handling compromises of towing.

Check out Hellwig here http://www.hellwigproducts.com/products/

Also we thank Mangflow for hosting ShoutEngine podcasts at SEMA, you can of course find Magnaflow here... http://magnaflow.com

Classic Recreations - SEMA 201707 Dec 201700:28:05

Back for the third year in a row one of favorite guests... Jason Engel of Classic Recreations.  This year Jason brought along his right-hand man in the shop Jared. We talk CR's usual product lineup of Mustangs and Camaros however Jason reveals their upcoming Mopar project and his long awaited Bronco offering.  Outside of those offerings we go a bit off the beat path (as is tradition) into Tesla drivetrain swaps, C10 big blocks, off-road conversions of classic cars and how Jason proposes Jeff finally fix the Wombat's ailments.

Classic Recreations can be found at https://www.classic-recreations.com

Also, thanks go Magnaflow for providing the stage for ShoutEngine podcasts at SEMA 2017.

Heidts Suspension - SEMA 201730 Nov 201700:36:46

Our SEMA journey continues, this time with the good folks at Heidts Suspension. This is a brand that's been around for sometime now, and they know all about chassis improvement.

Hit that play button and come along as we talk about all things suspension... and then some.

Dan McNiff of Dinan - SEMA 201722 Nov 201700:46:50

Dan McNiff has turned into one of my favorite podcast guests over the last few years; Dan is a technical project manager and oversees warrantying all the beautiful upgrades for BMWs (and Minis) at Dinan. Reprising his SEMA role from last year Dan stops by to share details on their new product offerings but as per usual we deviate from the roadmap shortly thereafter.  We get the inside story on Dinan's forays into the VW/Audi world only to be interrupted by their parent company purchasing APR tuning. Beyond business dealings though we discuss some of the common maladies of modern BMWs and the limitations they reach building warranteed upgrades that can be overcome by their more ambitious clientele.

Check out Dinan's product offerings at https://www.dinancars.com/

Once again thanks to Magnaflow for hosting ShoutEngine podcast on their stage at SEMA 2017

All About that Bubble Bath Life22 Dec 202201:02:08

Ron and Jeff talk about the new Ford Lightning electric pickup truck. Then we chat about our own cars before diving into your questions from Instagram.

Garret Turbochargers - SEMA 201717 Nov 201700:38:17

In this episode from our SEMA series Jeff and I have a chat w/ engineers from Garret by Honeywell (aka the turbo people).  We get a crash course on development of product, considerations in designs for OEM vs. aftermarket applications and we discuss our guests personal project cars.

You can check out Garrett's produc offerings at https://www.turbobygarrett.com.

Once again thanks to Mangaflow for setting us up with a stage at SEMA 2017.

Renegade Hybrids - SEMA 201715 Nov 201700:48:37

This episode I'm joined by Renegade Hybrids of Las Vegas; purveyors of the famous LS engine swap kits for the Porsche 911. You've likely seen or read about their work over the last year as they made a big splash at SEMA 2016 offering up test drives to a number of automotive journalists. We start off with the history of Renegade and quickly dive into the positives and negatives of swapping a big V8 into a spot where a flat six formerly resided and even go so far as to explore the depths of wiring harnesses in these ambitious swaps.

Check out Rengades website at http://www.renegadehybrids.com/ and once again thanks to Magnaflow for providing a stage for ShoutEngine podcasts at SEMA 2017.

Will Baty of Centerforce clutches - SEMA 201708 Nov 201700:33:50

The first in our series of SEMA 2017 podcasts Will Baty of Centerforce clutches stops by to talk about .... clutches.  That said we talk about what to expect visiting SEMA and the realities of tradeshows at large before we dive head first into "Clutchlandia".  Clutchlandia is a magical place where friction is high slipping is punishable by death and Evo engines magically survive past 400HP.

Ridiculous ficticious nations aside we cover the developments of clutch technology over the last twenty years, how flywheel weights affect your driving and some of the intricacies of dual-clutch transmissions. Thanks to Magnaflow for graciously hosting the Hooniverse and ShoutEngine podcasts at SEMA 2017.
