Cover Crops, Mulching & how to manage Slater/Woodlice/Pill Bugs in the Garden!!

Saison 1 · Épisode 5

jeudi 30 mars 2023Durée 44:36

Join me for a little garden update plus in this episode we discuss the different types of mulch I use in my urban permaculture garden and why. We also talk about cover crops and how to manage slater/ woodlice!!

There are a few things to consider when you are choosing mulch for the garden. Each type of mulch provides different pros and cons. Some provide food as they break down and others are long-lasting to keep moisture in. Some mulch is much easier to source because it is grown nearby eg: sugar cane mulch is popular in the Eastern States as a veggie garden mulch because it is grown locally and there is an abundant supply. Compared to here in WA it has to be imported. Sourcing locally is often more economical and you can ask questions to find out what quality the mulch is.

Plus today's plant of the week.... is a stunning perennial that I have been using as a potato substitute. ► SUBSCRIBE for more episodes on growing food at home 🍊 ► Have you watched the show live yet?? How Seasonal eating can accelerate your Journey to live more Sustainably

Saison 1 · Épisode 4

jeudi 23 mars 2023Durée 49:49

As a society, we have lost the rhythm of eating seasonally and many people now have no idea what fruits and vegetables grow in each season. We have been afforded the luxury of having strawberries and tomatoes all year round. It's something that I have stepped into wholeheartedly and I now eat with the seasons as much as possible. This means I cherish the times I get to eat each vegetable and they taste incredible when they are grown naturally in their correct season. Full of flavour and packed with all the vitamins and minerals our bodies need at the right time. Aligning your eating habits with the seasons will also mean you can understand and grow vegetables with so much more ease and flow. You are not fighting against nature and ending up with average results. Grow and eat seasonally and you will feel more aligned and balanced. Less force. Less effort and a lot more abundance and growth.

Staple Base Crops for easy self-sufficiency

Saison 1 · Épisode 2

jeudi 9 mars 2023Durée 01:01:02

When on a journey to grow your own food and live more sustainably, it is important to grow a selection of staple base crops to set yourself up for success. Base crops are ones that produce a large amount of food and will provide a great platform to build complete dishes from. Just like we have staples in the pantry to create meals, it is important to have staples in the garden to carry us through each season. Base crops are easy to grow, harvest and store and will provide a good level of calorie-dense nutrition and carbohydrates. They also include things that can be grown in bulk and used throughout the year.

Abundant Winter Gardens: Seasonal Gardening Tips and To-Do Lists

Saison 1 · Épisode 13

jeudi 8 juin 2023Durée 50:35

Let's chat about the winter garden and what to do to keep your edible gardens on track and full of food and life. The winter gardening season brings with it crisp mornings, darker skies, and more time spent inside. In the garden, plant growth rates slow down, temperatures are a lot cooler and the sun tracks lower in the sky, resulting in more shaded areas. It is important to observe your garden throughout the seasons and see where the sun and shades shift throughout the year.
