Persona 3, released outside Japan as Shin Megami Tensei:

Persona 3, is a 2006 role-playing video game developed by Atlus. It is the

fourth main installment in the Persona series, which is part of the larger

Megami Tensei franchise. It was originally released for the PlayStation 2 in

Japan in 2006 and in North America in 2007. It has received several enhanced

re-releases and ports: Persona 3 FES, an extended version featuring a new

playable epilogue and other changes, was released for the PlayStation 2 in

Japan in 2007 and worldwide in 2008. A PlayStation Portable version, Persona 3

Portable, was released in Japan in 2009, North America in 2010, and Europe in

2011, and ported to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows, Xbox One and

Xbox Series X/S in 2023. Persona 3 Reload, a remake of the core game, was

released in February 2024.

Mega Man Battle Network is a 2001 tactical role-playing game

developed by Capcom for the Game Boy Advance (GBA) handheld console. It is the

first title of the Mega Man Battle Network series of games. It was originally

released in Japan as a GBA launch game on March 21, 2001 and was released later

that year in North America and Europe. It was also released via the Wii U

Virtual Console in Japan on July 9, 2014, in Europe on July 24, 2014, and in

North America on July 31, 2014.

Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride is a 1992

role-playing video game and the fifth installment in the Dragon Quest video

game series, second of the Zenithian Trilogy. Originally developed by Chunsoft

and published by Enix Corporation, Dragon Quest V was the first title in the

series to be released for the Super Famicom video game console in Japan in

September 1992. Dragon Quest V was the first game in the series to not be

released in America due to programming issues at the time.

released in Japan. Mystic Ark has strong similarities to the games The 7th Saga

and Brain Lord, also developed by Produce and distributed by Enix. The game was

being localized for a North American release under the title 7th Saga II, but

Arts originally for the Dreamcast console as part of their Grandia series.

Initially released in Japan by Game Arts in August 2000, the game was published

by Ubi Soft in North America in December 2000 and in Europe in February 2001.

Grandia II was later ported to PlayStation 2, where it was released worldwide

throughout 2002, and for Windows exclusively in North America and Europe later

that year.

Persona 2: Eternal Punishment is a 2000 role-playing video

game developed and published by Atlus for the PlayStation. It is a direct

sequel to Persona 2: Innocent Sin and chronologically the third installment in

the Persona series, a subseries of the Megami Tensei franchise. The game was

later remade by Atlus for the PlayStation Portable. This version, released in

Japan in 2012, did not receive an overseas release. In response to this, the

PlayStation version was released on PlayStation Network in 2013.

Star Ocean: The Second Story, is an action role-playing

video game developed by tri-Ace and published by Enix for the PlayStation. It

is the second game in the Star Ocean series and the first game in the series to

be released outside Japan, arriving in North America in June 1999 and Europe in

April 2000, by Sony Computer Entertainment. Taking place in a science fantasy

universe, the story centers around a young man named Claude C. Kenny, a cadet

from a space-faring Earth organization who is stranded on an undeveloped,

medieval-level planet. There, he meets several companions and must stop a plot

from an evil organization that spans multiple worlds before finding his way

home.

A brief round table discussion of the cozy games we like to play to unwind. Featuring Riley and Jamie.

EarthBound, released in Japan as Mother 2: Gīgu no Gyakushū,

is a role-playing video game developed by Ape Inc. and HAL Laboratory and

published by Nintendo for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The second

entry in the Mother series, it was first released in Japan in August 1994, and

in North America in June 1995. A port for the Game Boy Advance developed by Pax

Softnica, bundled with Mother (1989) as Mother 1+2, was released only in Japan

in 2003. The game focuses on Ness and his party of Paula, Jeff and Poo, as they

travel the world to collect melodies from eight Sanctuaries in order to defeat

the universal cosmic destroyer Giygas.

I didn't grow up loving jRPGs. I grew up with point and click adventure games, so let me tell you about one of the greatest adventure game series of all time.

Romancing SaGa 2 is a 1993 role-playing video game developed

and published by Square for the Super Famicom. It is the fifth entry in the

SaGa series. A 3D remake entitled Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven is

planned for release on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and

Windows in 2024.

Star Ocean is a 1996 action role-playing game developed by

tri-Ace and published by Enix for the Super Famicom. The first game in the Star

Ocean series, it was released only in Japan in July 1996, and was the first

game developed by tri-Ace, consisting of staff that had previously left Wolf

Team due to being unhappy with the development process for Tales of Phantasia

with Namco in 1995.

Breath of Fire III is a role-playing video game developed

and published by Capcom originally for the PlayStation console as part of the

Breath of Fire series. Initially released in Japan on September 11, 1997, the

game was later released in North America and Europe in 1998. It is the first

game in the franchise to feature three-dimensional graphics and voice acting.

The title was developed by director Makoto Ikehara and features a unique

jazz-inspired soundtrack by company composers Yoshino Aoki and Akari Kaida. On

August 25, 2005, the game was ported and released for the PlayStation Portable

handheld system in Japan, and was also released in Europe on February 3, 2006.

Triangle Strategy is a 2022 tactical role-playing game

co-developed by Square Enix and Artdink for Nintendo Switch. The game was

published by Square Enix in Japan and Nintendo internationally for the Nintendo

Switch on March 4, 2022. The Windows version was published by Square Enix and

was released on October 13, 2022. The development of the game was led by Tomoya

Asano, producer of Bravely Default and Octopath Traveler.

Wild Arms is a role-playing video game developed by Japanese

company Media.Vision. Originally released in Japan in 1996 for the PlayStation,

it was later translated and released in North America in 1997 and Europe in

1998 by Sony Computer Entertainment. It features a fantasy setting and motif

and 2D computer graphics for normal gameplay, while battle sequences are

rendered in 3D.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 3rd is a 2007

role-playing video game developed by Nihon Falcom. The game is a part of the

Trails series, itself a part of the larger The Legend of Heroes series, and

serves as the final entry in the Trails in the Sky arc.

Trails in the Sky the 3rd first released in Japan for

Windows and later for the PlayStation Portable. It did not see an English

release until 2017 due to the game's large amount of text necessary to

translate. A port to the PlayStation 3 was released in 2013, while a remaster

for the PlayStation Vita was released in 2016; both were only released in

Japan.
