Al Freshko is a graphic designer, graffiti writer, and skater who's created logos for world-famous brands, including his own. Born in the Philippines and moving to San Francisco, Al became entrenched in the booming street skateboarding scene of the Embarcadero and joined graffiti crews like ICP and FSC. After going to art school, he started designing album covers, skate decks and logos. Al's resume includes brands like Diamond, DGK, and Cookies; and he's worked with rappers like Wiz Khalifa, Mac Dre, and San Quinn. History of the Bay Episode 67: Boots Riley is one of the most unique artists in Bay Area hip-hop, whose career spans different mediums and has always been rooted in revolutionary politics. He has been involved in community organizing since high school, supporting movements such as labor unions, prison abolition, police brutality, and much more. As a founding member of The Coup along with E-Roc and Pam the Funkstress (RIP), Boots used music to spread his message. His contemporaries include Spice 1, E-40, and 2pac, and he's released albums on major labels and independents. Around 9/11, The Coup was thrust into controversy over the twin towers coincidentally being depicted on their album cover, leading Boots to debate Bill Maher on national TV. Recently, his main focus has been filmmaking and his new series "I'm A Virgo" is currently streaming on Amazon Prime. Big Mack is an underground legend in the San Francisco rap scene whose 1995 debut album "A Better Way" is a collector's item that continues to sell units around the world. History of the Bay Podcast Ep. 62: Growing up in Berkeley, One Drop Scott has been a musician his entire life. His journey into the arts starts with his father, blaxploitation actor Thalmus Rasulala. Once he picked up his first instruments, Scott began playing with legends like Sheila E and Confunkshun.
