Dead History returns with a New Album available June 6th!!!!!

Dead History are a rock band from Minneapolis whose sound is a blend of post-hardcore, emo, shoegaze, and space rock that “pays homage to the fuzzy comfort of Swervedriver and Quicksand” [Paste Magazine] while often drifting into “atmospheric Hum-gaze territory” [BrooklynVegan]. HiddenTrack #253 SLEAVE (Charlie Bowen)29 May 202501:16:59

SLEAVE is a dynamic four piece whose sound brings together elements of alternative rock, punk, and American hardcore while also being reminiscent of the American grunge and emo movements of the 90's.

Formed in Richmond, VA in 2016, Sleave began after Julien Robert and Charlie Bowen met at a party, where they quickly bonded over a shared interest in punk and alternative music. A series of impromptu jam sessions at Julien’s parent’s house during the fall of 2015 quickly turned into a full project.

HiddenTracks #244 RAD OWL (David Jarnstrom)27 Mar 202502:32:13

On this week’s episode we have a great in depth conversation with drummer extraordinaire David Jarnstrom. David has had quite the drumming career, playing with bands such as GRATITUDE, ALIGN, BNLX, RAD OWL, DEAD HISTORY, and most recently SKINNY LISTER. David is also an accomplished writer and marketer. While still in school, David found himself writing for magazines like Delta SKY, Twin Cities METRO and his childhood fave, Modern Drummer. Further marrying his love for music and writing, he spent a half-decade on the creative team at McNally Smith College of Music—first as Copywriter and Webmaster, and later as Marketing Manager—where he wrote hundreds of press releases and blog posts; copy for websites, brochures, catalogs, radio spots and banner ads; and managed a social media community of over 50,000. Join us for our great conversation about all things music.

HiddenTrack #154 TIRED RADIO (Anthony Truzzolino)06 Jul 202301:31:00

Tired Radio is the brainchild of Brooklyn-based musician Anthony Truzzolino.

Started as a solo project in 2017, Truzzolino released two independent singles before taking a hiatus to pursue other interests. During that break, Truzzolino continued to write songs that would eventually lead him to revisit the project in 2019 with the addition of drummer Kevin Daly.

Truzzolino’s endearing rasp, catchy hooks, and anthemic choruses combined with Daly’s driving rhythms and distinctive fills led the band to Gradwell House Recording in New Jersey to start work on a full-length debut.

A bruising, melodic journey down the paths less travelled, their Music infuses volume, power, and infectious choruses with the energy, independence, and autonomy of punk rock to deliver blue-collar, Americana-flavored anthem after anthem after anthem.

So turn on, tune in, and turn it up. Welcome to Tired Radio.

HiddenTrack #153 LAKES (Roberto Cappellina)29 Jun 202301:19:17

Formed in 2018, ‘glock-rock’ stalwarts Lakes have turned plenty of heads since emerging from the depths of Watford’s DIY.

The band are settling into 2023 with their sights set on a metamorphosis, driven by a desire to forge themselves into something bigger and brighter than ever before. Step forth new album Elysian Skies. Recorded with Tom Peters at Trapdoor Studios in Liverpool, Lakes took to the studio to make their sound enormous, leaning into their penchant for positivity, charm and twinkling catharsis all while wrapping their themes in echoing guitar effects and soaring vocal harmonies.

Where their last album Start Again saw Lakes take their darkest moments and come out of the other side, Elysian Skies is an evolution of that woe and emerging into a realm that is full of colour, brightness and hope. It’s the band forging their own path and signalling a new phase in 2023, not quite the re-birth of their previous record, but a phase that contains the very essence of what the band have grown into — and what they do best.

This week I have the beautiful opportunity to speak with Popeye Vogelsang. There are many times in ones' life when they look for something to save them from the destruction in their life. Popeye joined me shortly after his first live performance with his new band CALLING HOURS, and if his excitement about the new project doesn't get you stoked about it, I don't know what will. Join me in saying thank you to Popeye for all he has meant to me and allowing me to continue to listen to music and have a great f@<king time!!!!

HiddenTrack #150 HAYDEN CALNIN08 Jun 202301:06:30

On this week’s episode we travel around the world to meet up with multitalented Australian artist HAYDEN CALNIN. From early beginnings Hayden has carved out a path refusing to adhere to convention and genre. By the time the self-taught, multi-instrumentalist had graduated from film school, a major in sound design had set the scene for Hayden to take an interest in music production. On his first two self-produced EPs, Hayden explored the realms of everything from folk through to downbeat, drawing comparisons to artists such as M83, Bon Iver, James Blake and Dawn Golden. Hayden not only creates music for himself he helps others realize their own visions by producing and writing with other artists as well as composing film scores for local Australian filmmakers. Hayden has also had syncs in popular television shows like Suits, The Good Doctor, The Vampire Diaries, Teen Wolf, The 100, and So You Think You Can Dance USA as well as the UK trailer for Academy® Award-nominated favorite Room.

HiddenTrack #149 BLAKE MORGAN01 Jun 202300:51:15

BLAKE MORGAN is an American musician, singer, music producer, record label owner, and activist based in New York City. After releasing the alternative rock solo album Anger's Candy (1997) on Phil Ramone's N2K Sony/Red label,he began producing music independently and founded the label Engine Company Records in 2002, which in 2012 became ECR Music Group.

Morgan was born and raised in Manhattan. He began playing the piano and going to music school at age five, with the aim of becoming a professional pianist. At age six his interest began to switch from classical composers to The Beatles, after his mother introduced him to Meet The Beatles. In first grade he began attending the United Nations International School in New York City. He stayed there for 12 years, and graduated with an International Baccalaureate. He concurrently continued his piano studies at Greenwich House Music School in Manhattan. Morgan's first gig was at CBGB's in New York, when older students from his school recruited him to play keyboards in their band. Since he was legally too young for the venue, they used his then short stature to smuggle him inside the club in a bass drum case. As the show began, Morgan came out of the case to jump on stage and play the synths. Morgan's political activism on behalf of artists began in May 2013, when a pointed email exchange between him and the founder of Pandora, Tim Westergren, regarding lowered royalties, was published in the Huffington Post. The article was met with much enthusiasm in the artist community, and Pandora lost $130 million in the stock market the following morning.

HiddenTrack #148 LOW COAST/GAMEFACE (Jeff Caudill)25 May 202301:15:11

Today I had the distinct pleasure to speak with an artist I have admired and adored throughout his illustrious career, JEFF CAUDILL. Jeff has been a part of some of my favorite projects through the years, GAMEFACE, MARCH, YOUR FAVORITE TRAIN WRECK and now he is back with his new band LOW COAST. Jeff was very open and honest about his life in the music business and what led him to what he described as “the band he was looking for.” Jeff went on to tell the story of a father meeting another cool father and talking about their love of music and BOOM, LOW COAST came into our lives. LOW COAST is Jeff Caudill (vocals/guitar)  Mike Fratantuno (bass), Terence Yoshiak (drums), Dave Hemann (guitar), and Brian Lapin (keyboards), and they wrote and recorded the 10 songs that make up the band's upcoming debut album, Existing The Dream, due May 26 via Spartan Records.

On this weeks episode we catch up with Baltimore, MD based project THE LAST SECOND SAVE. The Last Second Save was created by songwriter Jesse Procaccini to channel his creative vision and inner-most thoughts. Jesse brings us into his world of creation and collaboration throughout his career.  The 2-song single "Baltimore," produced by Will Beasley and Paul Leavitt (All Time Low, The Dangerous Summer), has elevated his music and opened the door to a new era in his expression. In the single “Baltimore,” Jesse teams up with fellow Maryland songwriter Ben DeHan to pen verses worthy of that city’s literary history. This song illuminates the possible by imagining what’s right around the corner and a new future that starts with a first step.

HiddenTrack #243 FIGHT BACK MOUNTAIN (Adrian Barnello)20 Mar 202501:17:17

Everything you were taught growing up is no longer true. Fight Back Mountain deal in turbulent punk dispatches that give voice to creeping disillusionment. From their St Louis hometown the quartet bring a restless urgency to the search to find belonging and mental wellbeing in a world where the chips can feel hopelessly stacked against you. Against this malaise, they kick back with visceral hooky arrangements that owe as much to early emo and grunge as they do to the godfathers of punk. Fight Back Mountain’s trajectory is rooted in the high school friendship and shared passions of Adrian Barnello (vocals/lead guitar), Anjelica Aquilino (rhythm guitar), Andy Kohnen (bass), and Devin Dessieux (drums). In the years leading up to the creation of this band Barnello and Dessieux would form the self-described “low ambition pop-punk band” The Mondales, while Kohnen played with folk punk bands, and Aquilino was a much leaned-upon artist in the local DIY scene. Finally drawn together the group carries lessons learned from past endeavors, and a renewed sense of purpose.

HiddenTrack #144 SECRET MACHINES (Josh Garza)27 Apr 202301:17:12

On this week's episode we welcome Josh Garza of one of the most acclaimed rock bands of the 2000s, the SECRET MACHINES. The SECRET MACHINES helped define the sound of the era, along side contemporaries Interpol, Spiritualized, and TV on the Radio. Laden with sprawling arrangements occasionally pushing the 9 minute mark, Curtis and Garza have always been most comfortable with the term “space rock.”   Josh gives us some insight on what it took to create their latest album "The Moth,The Lizard, And The Secret Machines." The album was a labor of love that took almost fourteen years to complete. Josh and I dive deep into the world of noise rock and what it takes to be apart of something different.

HiddenTrack #143 RESIGNATION (Wes Allen)20 Apr 202301:18:17

There was a time when the Midwest seethed like the sea, fields and farmland, widespread and curling, cities ringing dark, hollow and deep. Under the shadow of the Great Lakes, haunted by the ghosts of industry, the young made music because of there was often nothing else to do, packing into small town basements and howling along with each another in VFW halls.

Hüsker Dü’s punk roared out of Minnesota, wresting alternative melody away from the radio, and Squirrel Bait’s Louisville energy found new translation in the emotional desperation and guitar-driven heaviness of bands like Falling Forward and Endpoint. Indianapolis gave us Split Lip, eventually becoming Chamberlain, fusing hardcore’s political passion with emo’s honesty and the kind of rust belt stories echoed in Americana’s weary bellow. The echoes of this musical ethic pealed back from as far away as Canada, the West coast, and the swelter of the South, with bands like Shoulder, Grade, Samiam, Fairweather, and Hot Water Music all throwing their songs into the wind.

Raising a grateful glass to this heritage, Toledo, Ohio’s RESIGNATION have partnered with Friend Club Records to release their You Are More Than Right Now EP on February 10th, 2023. Listen to their first single, “Eddie Kingston,”premiered recently by Behind The Midwest Scene and now available on all streaming services.

The band’s earnest post-hardcore insists that their audience wrestle with empathy, recognizing shared mental health struggles and the deep need for community. It’s a strange thing to be human and alive in this dystopian timeline, and RESIGNATION resolutely offers us gasoline and a sometimes sputtering torch, the promised light of which can kindle a hope for something more.

HiddenTrack #141 ANOTHER ONE DOWN! (Marcus Simonini and Dylan Walsh)06 Apr 202301:03:32

Rhode Island-based Pop-Punk band Another One Down! has proven themselves to be a driving force within the New England music scene since their inception in 2014. Selling out shows, playing alongside various notable touring acts, and even opening the 2018 Vans Warped Tour are just a few of the milestones the band has achieved over the course of their career. With their debut full-length record A Bitter Descent , the band lyrically tackles the struggles that come with depression, heartbreak, and self-reflection. The record is a reinvention of their sound, with a more musically diverse tracklist that still stays true to their roots. Emotionally raw and musically polished, it is their most mature and innovative release to date. HiddenTrack #140 OLIVER HAZARD (Mike Belazis)30 Mar 202300:39:08

This week we hit the road and talk to Mike Belazis of OLIVER HAZARD, all while Devin navigates the treacherous road to their next show. The story of Waterville, OH indie-folk trio OLIVER HAZARD – Michael Belazis (vocals, guitar), Griffin McCulloch (vocals, keys) and Devin East (vocals, guitar) – is the digital age’s version of classic band mythmaking. One member of the band came home to Ohio after leading camping trips in California and decided to make an album with two childhood friends. They won a Facebook raffle to record one song at a studio. Instead, they played their whole album straight through once, resulting in their debut LP 34 N River (2018). The Fader called the album a “folk-pop masterpiece” and the band was booked at Bonnaroo and Mountain Jam shortly thereafter.

HiddenTrack #242 DRIFTWOOD CHOIR (Ed Prosek)13 Mar 202501:13:13

Indie duo Driftwood Choir, featuring Portair and Ed Prosek, are gearing up to release their debut self-titled album on March 7th and I'd love to have you check out the release! The duo and Nettwerk labelmates joined forces after bonding over a spirit of wanderlust, creating an uplifting album about change, and connecting with nature and people.

Driftwood Choir cements the musical union of two curious creative spirits, whose songwriting eloquence and acuity matches their clear proclivity for adventure. Born in California and based in Berlin, Ed instantly hit it off with the Australia-born Drew (aka Portair), bonding over a spirit of wanderlust both personally and sonically.

Two distinct paths brought Ed and Drew to Driftwood Choir. Ed had attracted a fervent fanbase with a series of solo EPs, including The Riverbed [2014], Truth [2016], Light as a Feather [2019], and The Foreigner [2023]. Hailing from the other side of the world, Drew built a devout audience under the name of Portair, captivating with The Light That Gives EP [2021], The Ice That Breaks EP [2022], and Learning How to Die EP [2023].

During the fall of 2023, the duo met in Berlin where they linked up for a drink and made a decision to hit the studio together. During their first proper session, the musicians cooked up “Constantinople.” It eventually amassed over half-a-million streams. Inspired by this newly unearthed working relationship, they kept going. Now, the pair is forging a path together emerging with their debut album out 2025.

Gone Stereo is a five-piece melodic pop punk band from Long Island, New York, that was established in 2022. Their distinctive sound, a fusion of 1990s influences and early 2000s pop punk, is poised to captivate audiences.

With their electrifying live performances, soaring vocal harmonies, and captivating guitar riffs, Gone Stereo leaves listeners dancing and singing along.

Initially, Gone Stereo commenced as a pandemic solo project led by Matty Lupinacci. However, with the support of esteemed friends, the band evolved into a fully realized ensemble.

The current lineup comprises Chris Lynam on guitar vocals, Josh Freeman on guitar, Mike Drinkwalter on bass, and Danny DiGiuseppe on drums. All of these members have been integral to the Long Island punk scene for over two decades, and their diverse musical backgrounds contribute to the band’s songwriting and musical arrangements.
