We all know that the character interactions, our fellow passengers, and the community that has resulted from Galactic Starcruiser are the things that we all cherish the most about the experience. But there was more too - - - the tangible aspects of the voyage such as the scent of the Atrium or the tastes of the food or even the sounds that the door to the Engineering room mad. These memories are what we look back on in this episode in honor of the 3rd anniversary of the first voyage. We were surprised at how much we viscerally remembered.

We brought on several of our new besties to chat about Disney's Galactic Starcruiser and it was super fun. These Sublight Circle episodes are literally like sitting around the fire . . . well, the space fire, I guess . . . and sharing stories of our adventures aboard the Halcyon. We focused in on the experiences these folks had and were amazed at the diversity of stories that were told - - from dentists onboard studying the "Way of the Floss" to solo dinners with Sandro to fun time with kids or parents who came along.

The Emotional Side Effects of Starcruising

There can be little question - especially for folks who have been passengers onboard the Halcyon - that Disney's Galactic Starcruiser voyage is truly a work of art. Accordingly, like any other great work of art, the experience is designed to evoke strong feelings.
However, because experiencing the voyage is 100% interactive and not passive like watching a movie or TV show or reading a book, the emotions it elicits can be significantly more powerful - both during and after a trip aboard the Halcyon.
We invited former guest Jen Catania of Jen Eyre Cosplay to come discuss these feelings with us and how the Imagineering & LARP wizards at Disney have crafted the experience with these emotional journeys in mind. We talk about LARP 'bleed' and LARP 'drop' and also about how Jen apparently has bad luck around giant robots. :)

On our recent second voyage aboard Disney's Galactic Starcruiser, we spoke with one couple who had a great time but missed a fair amount of the interactive experiences aboard the ship. This led us to wonder - could Disney improve the process of "onboarding" folks to the experience and the alternate universe aboard the ship?
When we thought of this topic, we quickly realized that there was no one better to talk to about this than immersive designer Nick Tierce. We spoke with Nick not only about how Disney can make improvements but also learned about other immersive/interactive experiences like "Sleep No More", Delusion, Ghost Town Alive at Knott's Berry Farm, and the various Meow Wolf installations & how the creators of these experiences bring people into their worlds of wonder.

Our guest today is Nick Tierce, a narrative designer who has been playing in the world of immersive narrative for the past decade. His latest project is Hollow Medium, a podcast and multimedia project over at https://www.hollowmedium.com.
Nick was a pioneer player of Disney's early experiments in immersive storytelling such The Optimist, an alternate reality game (ARG) tied to the film Tomorrowland, and Legends of Frontierland at Disneyland. Check out this prediction that Nick made in 2014 as Legends of Frontierland was winding down:
"If I may be so bold as to project speculation decades down the road, I can imagine a future where — rather than grafting these experiences onto existing locations — original themed environments will be constructed to exclusively house this type of open, immersive, exploratory story world."
Luckily for us, we didn't have to wait long for Nicks speculation to become reality. The Galactic Starcruiser is the end product of these experiments. We were able to chat with Nick about these and many other subjects. He is an expert on the subject and we learned a ton.

We were thrilled to be able to interview Mike Celestino, the host of the "Who's The Bossk" podcast and the writer/director/star of the "Antiquities: A Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser Story" web series from Laughingplace.com. Mike is also the lead Southern California reporter & editorial director of Star Wars content for Laughingplace.com
Mike shared several insights from his character creation process, the story of how he created his web series, and many other fun stories. We truly had a blast talking to him.
Mike went above and beyond with his character creation. In addition to creating a character for his voyage, he also wrote and published a backstory & created a prequel narrative YouTube video about his character. Cast members onboard the Halcyon were able to view this material and actually incorporated into his interactions with him. This gave him a very special experience that he shared about with us.
You can find Mike's web series on the Laughingplace YouTube channel. Part One & Five don't have any spoilers but the other episodes document his Galactic Starcruiser voyage so beware of spoilers if you're trying to stay pure!
There is a tiny bit of echo in the beginning of the podcast but it clears up by about 2-3 minutes in.

In this rebroadcast episode, we sat down with Stephen and Jeremy, the former leaders of the Outer Rim Sabacc League Facebook group. This group of nearly 2000 members enjoys all things sabacc and have come together over this fun game pulled straight from the page and silver screen.
In March of 2024, Stephen and Jeremy passed leadership of the group to Mike & Emily over at Hyperspace Props. The group is still going strong and is a lot of fun to visit.
