Episode 9: “Are You a God…zilla?” | Ultraman (1966) Eps. 10-1914 Nov 202402:26:02

A lot happens in this batch of episodes. As the title implies, we get a crossover between Godzilla and Ultraman…sorta…not really. Several iconic and incredibly weird Ultra Kaiju appear, including Pestar (who’s literally two suit actors holding hands), Gavadon (who’s a pillow waiting to happen), the return of the Baltans (so the genocide debate is moot), and more! Also, Nate (“The TsuBro”) introduces Chris (“Sentai Guy”) and Jake (“The Metal Don”) to seminal Ultra director Akio Jissoji, because they cover his first two episodes. Toss in a visit from the Great Leader and HPV3’s trademark awards, and you another great podcast from the guys. (For the record: Ide is the hero of this series).

Sorry this episode is late. Chris ran into some life and technical issues while editing.

Episode 2: “Now I Have a Machine Gun Snake!” (Kamen Rider V3 Eps. 1-9)17 Jul 202402:00:44

Listeners! Lend us your…henshin power! The boys launch their Kamen Rider V3 coverage with the first nine episodes of the series (aka: disc one of the Generation Kikaida DVD set). This covers the new hero’s origins and early battles against kaijin like Scissors-Jaguar and Machine Gun Snake, who are created by Shocker’s latest rebrand, Destro, er, Destron. Nate (“The TsuBro”) shares some research on the background of the series before they launch with a discussion of its first theme songs. Get ready for a ton of pop culture references and comparisons throughout. (Bear with us as we refine the podcast’s sound quality and format; it’s a little rough in this episode).

A new tokusatsu journey begins July 10, 2024 (Ultraman Day)!

Episode 8: “You’re the Ultraman Now, Dawg!” | “The Birth of Ultraman” & Ultraman (1966) Eps. 1-925 Oct 202403:17:33

“Here he comes from the sky!” Much to Nate’s (“The TsuBro’s”) delight, HPV3’s starts its coverage of Ultraman (1966)! And Chris (“Sentai Guy”) and Jake (“The Metal Don”) have no complaints—except about Arashi being an idiot! This truly classic henshin kyodai hero series premiered as a live stage show that was lost media for a years. In this first batch of episodes, we see Shinichi Sekizawa, of Godzilla fame, co-write the origin story, an episode that retroactively gives some key Ultra lore, and several iconic kaiju. Beforehand, them HPV3 boys discuss some henshin hero news (hence why it’s their longest episode yet!). They also make crazy suggestions like an Ultra series in the vein of The Office. Chris (“Sentai Guy”) and Jake (“The Metal Don”) were hoping to get started on recording for Ultraman (1966), but Nathan (“The TsuBro”) was nowhere to be found, but never fear—the Ultrabro is here?! (What the henshin?!)

Our Ultraman (1966) coverage begins October 16, 2024!

Ultracut #1 - Kamen Rider V3: The Complete Series (Henshin Power V3 Eps. 2-7)09 Oct 202411:57:09

To quote Batman, “You wanna get nuts? Let’s get nuts!” Here’s an ultracut of all six of our episodes covering all 52 episodes of Kamen Rider V3! I don’t know why you’d want to spend that much time with Nathan The TsuBro, Chris The Sentai Guy, and Jake The Metal Don, but here you go. It’s almost as long a binge as those Discotek blu-rays of the series that I’m sure you preordered. Right? 😉 Anyway, let’s hope this doesn’t break PodBean.

Episode 7: “Until We Meet Again!” (Kamen Rider V3 Eps. 46-52)03 Oct 202402:19:21

Nathan (“The TsuBro”), Jake (“The Metal Don”), and Chris (“Sentai Guy”) finish the first chapter of their new tokusatsu journey with the final episodes of Kamen Rider V3! Such a seminal time requires a visit from a certain skull-faced supervillain—but not the one you’re thinking. (Was it Rito all along?) After he gives the boys some often awkward facts, they dive deep into the story of Riderman, who lives up to the hype. Then your hosts give the trademark HPV3 awards to this batch of episodes and the series as a whole. Who wins what? Will Chris admit there’s good Kamen Rider in the world? Listen to find out!

Next time: Ultraman (1966)!

Episode 6: “The Amazing Riderman” (Kamen Rider V3 Eps. 37-45)20 Sep 202401:49:12

The people who worked on Kamen Rider V3 need help. As in therapy. Nathan (“The TsuBro”), Chris (“Sentai Guy”), and Jake (“The Metal Don”) have concluded that. But this comes on the heels of Nathan singing “The Amazing Riderman” to start the episode, so he doesn’t have much room to talk. Speaking of Riderman, he shows up to kick off the series’ final story arc—and he might be the best character on the show! But if you thought the pseudo-“cornographic” sacrifice scene discussed in the previous HPV3 was dangerously close to getting the podcast an explicit label, wait until you hear Chris talk about a long-necked turtle kaijin! Plus, Nathan keeps mentioning Alien: Romulus, and Jake claims his first “rantmaster”! What’d you expect in the latest HPV3?

Episode 5: “Tusk-edo Mask” (Kamen Rider V3 Eps. 28-36)04 Sep 202402:13:15

Nathan (“The TsuBro”), Chris (“The Sentai Guy”), and Jake (“The Metal Don”) overcome the odds when life, uh, finds ways to keep them from recording—which leads to some of the most effed up stuff they’ve seen in Kamen Rider V3. Specifically, an occult sacrifice scene that’s arguably pornographic…for the kids! Your hosts have questions like, why does Doktor G have a scorpion motif when his kaijin form is a crab? Destron’s insignia is a scorpion! Can you say, “Missed opportunity”? And Ken Sakuma is no Taki. Nope. And let’s not forget the hot gender-fluid tiger lady. Oh my…! Also, the guys discuss some tokusatsu/henshin hero physical media news and their first piece of listener feedback. It’s what you expect from HPV3.

Episode 4: “Go! Go! Destron Rangers!” (Kamen Rider V3 Eps. 19-27)21 Aug 202401:52:21

Say, “Hello”…to the latest episode of Henshin Power V3! Your hosts Nathan “The TsuBro” Marchand, Jake “The Metal Don” Hambrick, and especially Christopher “Sentai Guy” Riner fight the good fight against Streamyard, and after winning, they dive into their next batch of episodes for Kamen Rider V3. Sadly, this batch is held back by unfortunate shaky cam that makes the Bourne films look stable. But it also has some of the most insane kaijin-of-the-week and stunt work so far for the series. Not to mention, the Shocker generals, in true Altered Beast fashion, RISE FROM THEIR GRAVES to battle V3 himself. Too bad the promised return of Riders One and Two was a red herring. All this and more on HPV3!

Episode 3: “My One, er, Four Weaknesses!” (Kamen Rider V3 Eps. 10-18)10 Aug 202401:48:33

Nathan (“The TsuBro”), Chris (“Sentai Guy”), and Jake (“The Metal Don”) continue their journey through Kamen Rider V3 with the series’ introduction of a new commandant: Doktor Gay, er, G. Because poor literacy and English letters are scary…I guess. While the show continues to impress with its special effects and action, the characters are starting to make stupid decisions, which prompts our first “Rantmaster.” Also, Doktor G needs to pick a motif for his supervillainy! He’s trying to be all the Shocker generals thrown into a blender! Strap in, listeners!
