Why Clients Get Stuck: The Neuroscience of Behavior Change with Dr. Irena O'Brien03 Aug 202600:35:02

Why do clients understand what they need to do—but still struggle to follow through?

In this episode of the Health Coach Academy Podcast, Omar Cumberbatch sits down with neuroscientist and former CPA Dr. Irena O'Brien to explore the brain science behind behavior change, emotional eating, willpower, nervous-system regulation, and sustainable coaching results.

Dr. O'Brien explains that the brain's primary purpose is not simply thinking or decision-making. Its main job is to keep us safe, conserve energy, and predict what will happen next. That means many habits, cravings, avoidance patterns, and repetitive behaviors may be the brain's attempt to protect us from something it perceives as costly, uncertain, or threatening.

This conversation gives health coaches a practical new way to understand why clients get stuck—and how to help them change without relying on more pressure, motivation, or willpower.

In This Episode, You'll Learn
  • Why the brain prioritizes safety and survival over personal goals
  • How the predictive brain creates and reinforces habits
  • Why emotional eating may be an energy-management strategy
  • What the brain may be protecting a client from when change feels difficult
  • Why willpower problems are often capacity problems
  • How the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems affect behavior
  • Why vision and the "ideal self" can create energy for change
  • How longer exhales may support nervous-system regulation
  • Why small, repeated steps are more effective than dramatic change
  • How sleep, movement, nutrition, music, breathing, and relationships help restore capacity
  • Why insight alone is not always enough to create behavioral change
The Brain Is a Prediction Machine

Dr. O'Brien describes the brain as a prediction machine that constantly compares current experiences with past experiences. When a familiar situation appears, the brain often predicts the same response it used before because repeating an established pattern requires less energy than creating a new one.

This is one reason habits can be so difficult to change. The brain may continue predicting the same behavior until new experiences gradually teach it that another response is possible.

For health coaches, this creates an important shift in perspective. Instead of asking only, "Why won't this client follow the plan?", a more useful question may be:

"What is this person's brain trying to protect them from?"

Emotional Eating, Anxiety, and Energy

The discussion also explores how emotional eating and repetitive behaviors may reduce a different kind of emotional or metabolic cost.

A person may reach for comfort food because processing the underlying emotion feels more demanding to the brain. Similarly, a repetitive behavior may temporarily reduce anxiety, making the behavior feel energetically safer than resisting it.

Dr. O'Brien emphasizes that mental, emotional, and physical energy are not separate systems. They are all connected through the body's metabolic processes and energetic capacity.

Start With the Ideal Self

One of the most practical coaching strategies in the episode is helping clients connect with their ideal self—the person they want to become.

Rather than focusing exclusively on a number on the scale, coaches can help clients explore questions such as:

  • Who do you want to become?
  • What kind of person do you want to be for yourself and your family?
  • What would achieving this goal make possible in your life?
  • How would that future feel in your body?

Dr. O'Brien explains that connecting with a meaningful vision can create a positive emotional state, activate the parasympathetic nervous system, and generate more capacity for the work of change.

During the conversation, Omar applies this exercise to his own goal of becoming the Million Dollar Health Coach, identifying freedom, influence, hope, and peace as the deeper emotional drivers behind that vision.

Why Tiny Steps Matter

The brain prefers familiar patterns because they are predictable and energetically inexpensive. Large changes can trigger resistance because they require more uncertainty, effort, and energy.

That is why Dr. O'Brien recommends tiny, repeated steps.

Small steps allow clients to stretch their capacity without overwhelming the brain's safety system. Over time, those new experiences can help reshape predictions, create new pathways, and make the desired behavior feel more familiar.

The goal is not to force the brain into instant transformation. The goal is to give it enough safe, repeated evidence to begin predicting a new response.

How to Build Energetic Capacity

Many people are living in a chronically activated sympathetic, or stress-dominant, state. That can drain energy and make behavior change feel harder than it needs to be.

Dr. O'Brien recommends helping clients restore capacity through practical tools such as:

  • Quality sleep
  • Breathwork
  • Moderate exercise
  • Supportive nutrition
  • Meditation
  • Rhythmic music
  • Joyful activities
  • Time with family and friends
  • Nervous-system regulation

She also explains that breathing with an exhale that is at least as long as the inhale may help balance the stress response with the relaxation response.

When the nervous system is better resourced, clients may find it easier to make decisions, tolerate discomfort, and follow through on the actions that support their goals.

The Real "Brain Hack"

Although many people search for quick neuroscience hacks, Dr. O'Brien keeps the answer grounded:

Build safety. Increase capacity. Take small, repeated steps.

When willpower is low, the problem may not be laziness or lack of desire. The person may simply lack the energetic capacity required for the behavior at that moment.

That insight can help coaches replace judgment with curiosity—and create plans that work with the brain instead of against it.

Key Takeaways for Health Coaches

Behavior change is not simply a matter of giving clients better information.

Clients may already understand exactly what they need to do. The challenge is helping their brains experience the new behavior as safe, manageable, and energetically possible.

Effective coaching may therefore involve:

  • Exploring what the current behavior is protecting
  • Building nervous-system capacity
  • Connecting goals to identity and purpose
  • Reducing the size of the next step
  • Repeating new behaviors long enough to change the brain's predictions
  • Supporting sleep, nutrition, movement, breathing, and emotional regulation

When coaches understand the predictive brain, they can stop treating resistance as failure and begin seeing it as useful information.

Stop Chasing Clients: Malcolm Reid's Blueprint for Growing Your Health Coaching Business Without Social Media06 Jul 202600:36:41

In this episode of the Health Coach Academy Podcast, Omar Cumberbatch sits down with entrepreneur and business strategist Malcolm Reid to discuss how health coaches can attract more clients, overcome limiting money beliefs, and grow profitable businesses using proven offline marketing strategies.

From overcoming a difficult childhood and prison sentence to becoming a nationally recognized business mentor, Malcolm shares the mindset shifts and marketing systems that have helped countless entrepreneurs build six- and seven-figure businesses.

One of the biggest takeaways? Stop marketing to people who need your services and start attracting people who already want the transformation you provide.

Whether you're a new health coach or looking to scale your practice, this episode is packed with practical business-building strategies you can implement immediately.

In This Episode You'll Learn:
  • Why health coaches should market to people who want help instead of those who simply need it.
  • The surprising reason charging higher prices often leads to better client results.
  • How to overcome money mindset blocks that prevent business growth.
  • Malcolm's four-step Conversion Formula for attracting ideal clients.
  • How to build a coaching business without relying on social media algorithms.
  • Why strategic partnerships can become one of your biggest referral sources.

  • The messaging mistake that causes many health coaches to blend in with the competition.
  • How to create irresistible offers that naturally generate qualified leads.
  • Practical strategies for standing out in a crowded coaching marketplace.
Key Takeaways People Buy Transformation—Not Titles

One of Malcolm's biggest insights is that clients aren't looking for a "health coach." They're looking for confidence, better relationships, improved health, greater energy, and a better quality of life.

When you communicate the outcome instead of the title, your marketing instantly becomes more compelling.

Stop Marketing to Everyone

Many health coaches try to convince people they need help.

Malcolm explains why it's far more effective to focus on individuals who are already searching for solutions. These motivated prospects are much more likely to invest, follow through, and achieve lasting results.

The Four-Step Conversion Formula

Malcolm shares his proven framework:

  • Captivate with the problem
  • Fascinate with the solution
  • Educate by demonstrating your unique value
  • Present an irresistible offer

This simple framework can be applied to websites, presentations, networking conversations, lead magnets, podcasts, and email marketing.

Build Strategic Alliances

Instead of depending solely on social media, Malcolm encourages health coaches to develop referral partnerships with complementary businesses that serve the same audience.

Strategic alliances can create consistent client referrals without increasing advertising costs.

How to Stop Blind Blaming and Unlock Growth in Business, Health, and Life with Kevin St. Clergy10 Jun 202600:46:43

What if the biggest obstacle standing between you and your next breakthrough isn't a lack of effort, motivation, or strategy—but the fact that you're solving the wrong problem?

In this eye-opening episode of the Health Coach Academy Podcast, we sit down with entrepreneur, business strategist, author, and coach Kevin St. Clergy to explore the powerful concept of Blind Blaming—the hidden habit of misdiagnosing problems and focusing on symptoms instead of root causes.

Kevin shares his remarkable journey from audiologist to multi-million-dollar business owner, revealing how he built and sold a thriving marketing and coaching company, overcame personal and professional setbacks, and developed a transformational framework that is now helping entrepreneurs, coaches, and leaders create lasting change.

From mindset and business growth to health challenges like sleep apnea and hormone imbalances, this conversation uncovers how blind spots can quietly sabotage success—and how coaches can better serve clients by identifying what's really holding them back.

In This Episode, You'll Learn:
  • What "Blind Blaming" is and how it affects business, health, relationships, and personal growth
  • Kevin's incredible journey from audiologist to successful entrepreneur and business coach
  • The life-changing childhood experience that inspired his book Beyond Blind Blaming
  • Why solving the wrong problem keeps people stuck for years
  • How coaches can uncover the true root causes behind client struggles
  • The surprising health issue Kevin mistook for ADHD
  • Why mindset often matters more than tactics when pursuing health and business goals
  • The power of coaching, mentorship, and mastermind groups
  • How to avoid analysis paralysis and build momentum through decisive action
  • Why many health coaches fail to address mindset and identity shifts in their clients
  • The role of sleep, hormones, and hidden health issues in weight loss resistance
  • How limiting beliefs and self-sabotage impact business growth
  • Practical ways coaches can improve client results by asking better questions
Kevin's RCD Framework for Breaking Free from Blind Blaming

One of the highlights of this episode is Kevin's simple yet powerful RCD Method:

R – Reflect

Ask yourself:

"Is there something else going on that I can't see?"

Before jumping to conclusions, take a step back and evaluate whether you're addressing the true source of the problem.

C – Connect

Seek outside perspective through:

  • Coaches
  • Mentors
  • Mastermind groups
  • Healthcare professionals
  • Trusted advisors

Often, the solution is hidden because you're too close to the situation to recognize it yourself.

D – Decide

Kevin's favorite version:

MFD – Make a F*ing Decision**

Progress requires action. Even if the decision isn't perfect, momentum creates clarity and opens the door for course correction.

Why This Episode Matters for Health Coaches

Health coaches often focus on nutrition plans, workouts, accountability, and behavior change. But as Kevin explains, many clients are unknowingly battling deeper issues such as:

  • Sleep apnea
  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Limiting beliefs
  • Identity conflicts
  • Self-sabotage
  • Poor mindset conditioning

Without addressing these root causes, even the best coaching programs can struggle to deliver lasting results. This episode provides a valuable framework for helping clients uncover what is really standing in their way.

Memorable Quotes from Kevin St. Clergy

"People aren't failing at solving their problems—they're solving the wrong problem perfectly."

"Every new level has a new devil."

"When you know who you serve, you're not selling anymore. You're interviewing."

"Reflect. Connect. Make a decision."

Final Thoughts

Whether you're a health coach, entrepreneur, consultant, or someone striving to reach the next level in life, this episode serves as a powerful reminder that lasting transformation starts by identifying the right problem.

If you've ever felt stuck despite working hard, Kevin's Blind Blaming framework may be the missing piece you've been looking for.

How to Increase Healthspan, Reduce Stress, and Master Longevity with Dr. Mark Sherwood01 Apr 202600:33:58
How to Increase Healthspan, Reduce Stress, and Master Longevity with Dr. Mark Sherwood

In this episode of the Health Coach Academy Podcast, we sit down with naturopathic doctor, author, and former police officer Dr. Mark Sherwood to explore the science and strategy behind longevity, biohacking, and building a longer, healthier life.

Dr. Sherwood shares his powerful journey—from professional athlete to law enforcement officer to leading expert in healthspan optimization and biohacking—and reveals why so many people are living longer… but not living better.

If you're a health coach, wellness professional, or someone interested in longevity, this episode breaks down how to help clients (and yourself) improve energy, resilience, and long-term health outcomes.

What You'll Learn in This Episode
  • The difference between lifespan vs healthspan

  • Why most people are living longer—but sicker

  • The 3 core pillars of health every coach must understand

  • How stress impacts longevity (and how to control it)

  • Why nutrition should focus on nutrients over calories

  • The truth about biohacking and how to apply it

  • Simple at-home biohacks that improve resilience and recovery

  • The role of movement in extending life and preventing disease

  • Why mastering stress is the most overlooked health strategy

  • How health coaches can incorporate longevity into their practice

From Police Officer to Longevity Expert

Dr. Sherwood's journey into health and wellness began in an unexpected place.

After a career as a professional baseball player and later serving 24 years as a police officer, he witnessed a troubling pattern—many officers were retiring and dying shortly after.

The statistic that changed everything:

👉 Male police officers with 20+ years of service had an average life expectancy of just 66 years.

That realization led him to study:

  • Stress

  • Nutrition

  • Chronic disease

  • Longevity

And ultimately become a leader in naturopathic medicine and biohacking.

Healthspan vs Lifespan: The Real Goal

One of the biggest takeaways from this episode is the difference between:

  • Lifespan → how long you live

  • Healthspan → how well you live

Many people live into their 80s…

But spend the last 10–15 years dealing with:

  • Chronic illness

  • Limited mobility

  • Low energy

  • Poor quality of life

Dr. Sherwood challenges this model and emphasizes:

👉 The goal is a long healthspan and a short sickspan

The 3 Pillars of Longevity

Dr. Sherwood simplifies optimal health into three core principles:

1. Nutrition (Fuel vs Inflammation)
  • Focus on nutrient-dense, real foods

  • Stop obsessing over calories

  • Eat based on hunger and biological needs

  • Avoid ultra-processed foods

2. Movement (Motion is Life)
  • Daily movement is essential

  • Exercise improves longevity, circulation, and resilience

  • Sedentary lifestyles accelerate decline

3. Stress Mastery
  • Stress is not something that happens to you—it's how you respond

  • Daily stillness and mental clarity are critical

  • Even 10 minutes of quiet time can transform health outcomes

What is Biohacking (Really)?

Biohacking is one of the fastest-growing trends in health and wellness—but it's often misunderstood.

According to Dr. Sherwood:

👉 Biohacking is simply using science, lifestyle, and awareness to optimize how your body functions

It's not just gadgets or shortcuts—it's about:

  • Understanding your biology

  • Making intentional decisions

  • Creating efficiency in your health

Simple Biohacks You Can Start Today

Dr. Sherwood shares practical, accessible strategies including:

  • Infrared sauna therapy for recovery and resilience

  • Cold exposure (cold showers) to activate stress adaptation

  • Molecular hydrogen water for cellular health

  • Vagus nerve stimulation for stress and sleep

  • Peptides as an emerging tool in longevity

The key takeaway:

👉 You don't need extreme protocols—small, consistent actions create big results.

Why This Matters for Health Coaches

This episode is especially valuable for health coaches looking to:

  • Enter the longevity and biohacking niche

  • Help clients prevent chronic disease

  • Focus on proactive vs reactive health

  • Build programs around lifestyle optimization

Dr. Sherwood emphasizes:

👉 Teach "downhill"—help younger clients adopt habits early to avoid future disease.

From Burnout to a $1M Practice: How Helen Malinowski Built a Nervous-System Aligned Business16 Mar 202600:32:50

In this episode of the Health Coach Academy Podcast, we sit down with therapist, entrepreneur, and somatic practitioner Helen Malinowski to explore how she transformed her private practice from $150,000 to over $1 million in revenue in just five years.

Helen shares the powerful story of how burnout forced her to rethink the traditional one-on-one service model and ultimately led her to build a thriving multi-clinician practice with nearly 30 clinicians and multiple locations.

If you're a health coach, therapist, or wellness practitioner, this conversation will challenge the belief that helping professions must equal exhaustion. Helen explains how listening to your nervous system, setting boundaries, and building community can unlock both impact and financial success.

You'll also learn why expanding beyond the solo practitioner model may be the key to building a sustainable and scalable health or coaching business.

What You'll Learn in This Episode
  • How Helen grew her practice from $150K to $1M in five years

  • The burnout trap many therapists and health coaches fall into

  • Why the traditional one-on-one client model isn't sustainable

  • How nervous system regulation can guide better business decisions

  • The mindset shift that allowed Helen to start saying no to clients

  • How building a team and group practice created freedom and impact

  • Why community and mentorship are essential for practitioners

  • Marketing strategies that actually work for wellness professionals

  • The power of local networking with doctors, chiropractors, and other providers

  • How health coaches fit into the holistic healthcare ecosystem

Helen Malinowski's Origin Story

Helen grew up in a family of research scientists in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, and originally believed science was her only career path. But after discovering psychology and later social work, she found her calling helping people through counseling and trauma therapy.

As her private practice grew, so did the demands.

Like many practitioners, Helen struggled with:

  • Business skills

  • Marketing and finances

  • Boundaries with clients

  • Overwork and emotional fatigue

By 2019, she realized something was wrong.

She was experiencing classic burnout symptoms:

  • Exhaustion

  • Irritability

  • Dreading work

  • Feeling overwhelmed

Ironically, she was burning out doing the work she loved most.

The Turning Point: Discovering Somatic Experiencing

Helen enrolled in somatic experiencing training, initially believing it would help her clients.

Instead, it changed her life.

Through this training she began to understand:

  • How the nervous system affects decision making

  • Why burnout happens in helping professions

  • How to listen to internal signals of stress and capacity

This new awareness helped her build a practice that aligned with her energy, values, and nervous system regulation.

Why One-on-One Coaching Can Lead to Burnout

One of the biggest insights Helen shares is that many practitioners get stuck in the one-on-one client model.

While rewarding, it has limits:

  • Your time is capped

  • Your emotional energy gets drained

  • Growth becomes impossible without burnout

Helen realized she couldn't continue saying yes to every client.

Instead of turning people away, she restructured her entire business model.

Today, her practice includes:

  • Nearly 30 clinicians

  • Multiple therapy locations

  • A dedicated children's mental health center

  • Occupational therapy services

  • Coaching and practitioner training programs

The Power of Listening to Your Nervous System

A major theme of this episode is body awareness in business decision-making.

Helen explains that many professionals rely purely on logic and numbers.

But your body often knows the answer first.

She recommends asking:

  • Does this opportunity feel expansive or draining?

  • Does my body say yes… or hesitate?

  • Am I making this decision from alignment or obligation?

Learning to pause and check in with your nervous system can transform both business strategy and personal wellbeing.

Marketing Strategies That Work for Wellness Practitioners

Helen also breaks down the different marketing strategies she uses for her businesses.

For her therapy practice:
  • Psychology Today listings

  • Insurance panels

  • Local physician referrals

  • Networking with healthcare providers

  • Relationships with chiropractors, acupuncturists, and pediatricians

For her coaching and training programs:
  • Instagram content

  • Blogs and educational articles

  • Email newsletters

  • Free workshops and trainings

  • Online community building

The key takeaway?

Visibility + value = trust.

Consistently sharing helpful content builds long-term relationships with your audience.

Why Health Coaches Are Critical in the Healthcare Ecosystem

One of the most important discussions in this episode is the role of health coaches in trauma-informed care.

Helen explains that many therapy clients struggle with physical health issues related to stress and trauma, including:

  • Chronic illness

  • Autoimmune conditions

  • Cardiovascular disease

  • Hormonal imbalances

  • Nervous system dysregulation

While therapists address emotional healing, health coaches help clients implement daily lifestyle changes that support recovery.

This makes health coaches an essential partner in a holistic health ecosystem.

Advice for Health Coaches and Wellness Entrepreneurs

Helen's biggest advice for practitioners:

Slow down before making big business decisions.

Instead of rushing into growth, ask:

  • Is this aligned with my energy and values?

  • Does this support my long-term sustainability?

  • Am I building something that truly supports my life?

When your business aligns with your nervous system, growth becomes more natural and sustainable.

Helen's story is proof that helping people and building a profitable business are not mutually exclusive.

By trusting your body, building the right team, and surrounding yourself with supportive community, it's possible to create a practice that flourishes financially while protecting your wellbeing.

If you're a health coach, therapist, or wellness professional, this episode will inspire you to rethink what's possible in your career.

🔹 Why Quizzes Are So Much More Than Lead Magnets

Forget PDF downloads no one reads.

Maeve breaks down:

  • The difference between fun quizzes vs true diagnostics

  • Why score-based assessments outperform traditional lead magnets

  • How quizzes create instant personalization and trust

🔹 How Diagnostic Quizzes Pre-Qualify Clients Automatically

One of the most powerful sections of the conversation:

  • How quizzes assess strengths, gaps, and readiness

  • Why coaches waste hours on discovery calls that never convert

  • How diagnostics filter out:

    • "Not ready" leads

    • Under-qualified prospects

    • Low-investment buyers

The quiz does the qualification before the call ever happens.

🔹 Segmenting Leads by Investment Level (Without Awkward Sales Calls)

Maeve explains:

  • How diagnostics quietly assess ability and willingness to invest

  • Why pricing objections disappear when alignment is right

  • How sales teams know exactly who is:

    • A high-ticket client

    • A mid-level buyer

    • A digital-only customer

This allows coaches to:

  • Put the right offer in front of the right person

  • Protect time, energy, and sales bandwidth

🔹 The End of "Discovery Call Hell"

This episode directly addresses:

  • Why discovery calls are often inefficient and draining

  • How diagnostics replace 60-minute interviews with clarity

  • Why sales conversations become shorter, calmer, and higher-converting

🔹 Are These Quizzes Too Long? Attention Span Myths Explained

Maeve covers:

  • Short quiz funnels (7–10 questions)

  • Mid-length score-based diagnostics (15–40 questions)

  • High-end thought-leadership assessments (Myers-Briggs / Enneagram-level)

Key insight:

If someone won't complete your diagnostic, they likely won't commit to your program.

🔹 AI, Automation, and the Future of Lead Qualification

Maeve dives into:

  • How AI agents analyze sales calls and funnels

  • Identifying high-ticket buyers hidden in your email list

  • Using data — not "gut feelings" — to guide business decisions

  • Why foundations must come before AI

🔹 Why Traffic Alone Isn't Enough

A critical warning for health coaches:

  • A great diagnostic without traffic = a fancy object on the internet

  • Messaging determines who enters your ecosystem

  • "Struggle-based" marketing attracts low-budget clients

  • Rich-niche positioning attracts premium buyers

🎯 Key Takeaways for Health Coaches

✔ You already have intellectual property — you just haven't systemized it
✔ Quizzes can qualify, not just capture, leads
✔ Diagnostics eliminate unproductive discovery calls
✔ High-ticket clients require different messaging
✔ Data > feelings when scaling a business

How Health Coaches Can Scale, Price with Confidence, and Win in "Saturated" Markets with Terri Ross03 Feb 202600:32:07

In this episode, we sit down with Terri Ross, founder of Terri Ross Consulting, healthcare business strategist, and former Fortune 500 executive, for a deep, practical conversation on how health coaches and wellness entrepreneurs can build scalable, profitable businesses — even in competitive markets.

Terri brings over 20 years of experience in medical devices, aesthetics, sales psychology, and healthcare consulting. She's worked across oncology, cardiology, endocrinology, dermatology, plastic surgery, med spas, and integrative wellness — and now helps cash-based practices dramatically improve revenue, efficiency, and client results.

This episode is a must-listen for health coaches, wellness professionals, med spa owners, and clinicians who want to stop underpricing, stop trading time for dollars, and start building businesses that actually scale.

🔑 Key Topics Covered in This Episode 💡 Terri Ross's Origin Story
  • Growing up in Michigan and aspiring to be a doctor

  • Transitioning from medicine into the business side of healthcare

  • 16 years in Fortune 500 medical device companies

  • Launching Terri Ross Consulting after leading a company through an IPO

🚫 Is the Health Coaching Industry Really "Saturated"?

Terri challenges the myth of market saturation and explains:

  • Why cash-based businesses are NOT commodities

  • The difference between "selling services" vs. selling outcomes

  • Why education is still a form of ethical sales

  • How emotional decision-making drives buying behavior

Clients don't buy nutrition plans, coaching sessions, or treatments —
they buy confidence, relief, and quality of life.

🧠 The Psychology of Selling Health & Wellness

Terri breaks down:

  • Why people buy emotionally and justify logically

  • How insecurity, confidence, and self-image drive purchasing decisions

  • Why discovery calls are everything — and where most coaches fail

  • How to ask better questions to uncover what clients really want

🎯 Niches, Avatars, and Why "Helping Everyone" Hurts Your Business

A powerful discussion on:

  • Why "I help everyone" leads to weak messaging and poor compliance

  • How to define your ideal client avatar

  • "Riches are in the niches" — and how to identify yours

  • The importance of brand clarity, website messaging, and social proof

💰 Pricing, Value, and Why Health Coaches Undercharge

Terri shares her framework for pricing programs correctly:

  • Why most coaches price emotionally instead of mathematically

  • Understanding time, labor, cost of goods, and gross profit

  • Why anything under 50% gross margin is a red flag

  • How premium pricing actually improves client compliance and outcomes

Cheap programs attract uncommitted clients.
Premium pricing attracts action-takers.

📈 Scaling Beyond 1-on-1 Coaching

This episode goes deep into scalability:

  • Why trading time for dollars caps income

  • Moving from 1-on-1 → virtual → courses and systems

  • Creating repeatable, outcome-driven frameworks

  • Using KPIs and measurable results to scale ethically

🗣️ The Sales Framework Every Health Coach Should Know

Terri teaches her communication model:
Listen → Acknowledge → Explore → Respond

  • Why most people listen to respond instead of listening to understand

  • How repeating and validating client concerns builds trust

  • How to connect treatment plans directly to desired outcomes

  • Why objections are rarely about money — they're about value

🔥 Trends in Wellness, Med Spas & Integrative Health

Terri discusses emerging trends, including:

  • GLP-1 medications (Ozempic, Tirzepatide, Mounjaro)

  • Peptides, hormones, and integrative wellness models

  • Why weight-loss drugs won't replace health coaches

  • The future is holistic, integrated care, not quick fixes

🧠 Key Takeaways for Health Coaches

✔ Saturation is a mindset problem, not a market problem
✔ Clients buy outcomes, not sessions
✔ Premium pricing improves results and retention
✔ Niching makes marketing easier — not smaller
✔ Systems, frameworks, and education unlock scalability

Podcast Guesting for Health Coaches: Jessica Rhodes' Playbook for Leads, Authority & Sales11 Aug 202500:29:17

We welcome our latest guest, Jessica Rhodes — founder of Interview Connections (pioneer podcast booking agency), to the show! She joins us to share how podcast guesting helps health coaches attract clients, monetize content, and build authority—plus practical steps to start now.

In this episode, Jessica breaks down why guesting is the fastest path for health coaches to create content, grow visibility, and generate leads—especially when your best ideas surface through Q&A conversation. We cover when to host vs. guest, how to monetize (funnels, CTAs, affiliate marketing, repurposing), and why the green-room connection (before/after the interview) often drives real business.

Why this matters for health coaches

  • Complex, personalized services convert best through conversation, not scripts.

  • Guesting = low-lift content creation + instant authority via borrowed audiences.

  • Hosting builds a home base; guesting builds reach. Use both strategically.

Key takeaways

  • Start as a guest to clarify messaging; then consider launching your show.

  • Treat your podcast (hosted or guest spots) as part of a marketing funnel: problem → value → clear CTA every time.

  • Monetize beyond ads: affiliate offers, service enrollments, lead magnets, networking with hosts.

  • Repurpose every interview: short clips, reels, emails, blogs—one appearance = weeks of content.

  • Leverage the green-room chat (off-air). Relationships there often become clients, partners, or affiliates.

  • Follow demand: pitch shows where your ideal buyer already listens.

Action steps (do this next)

  1. Define one offer + one CTA you'll use on every interview.

  2. Draft 5–7 signature questions you answer brilliantly (and suggested questions for hosts).

  3. Create a repurposing checklist (clips, quotes, newsletter, LinkedIn/IG posts).

  4. Build a simple booking page/lead magnet to capture interest from episodes.

  5. Pitch 5 aligned shows this week—or work with a specialized podcast booking agency.

Host vs. Guest — equal power, different benefits

  • Guesting: Audience growth, authority by association, faster lead gen.

  • Hosting: Consistent nurture for your list, message control, deeper brand assets.

Monetization quick hits

  • Funnel-first: every episode points to one next step (quiz, call, free training).

  • Affiliate marketing works with small but engaged audiences.

  • Track results: appearances → traffic → email signups → sales.

One of the common themes I've learned over the years and after over 200 episodes is that business is business.  The same principles apply for most businesses starting out and the keys to success are basically the same.  So when I had a chance to interview Michael Silva, I jumped on the opportunity.

Michael is a business coach who is trying to save the physical therapy profession.  During this episode, it became quite clear that health coaches and physical therapists are industries that have many common struggles.  As both occupations have similar missions as wellness practitioners, they also share business struggles from building client relationships to managing pricing and business growth.

Michael joins the show to share his passion of helping physical therapists build the practice of their dreams. He empowers private practice owners to create fulfilling and profitable businesses by niching down, targeting their ideal market, and delivering exceptional experiences.  Michael also shares how his journey began as a sports medicine physical therapist and quickly becoming disillusioned with the traditional healthcare model. The turning point came when he decided to start his own practice, driven by the support of his wife and the desire to create a more meaningful career.

This decision led to great success and fulfillment, inspiring him to help others do the same. Through his journey, Michael developed the 5 O's Method, a unique approach to helping physical therapists build successful private practices. Now, Michael is on a mission to transform the profession, one private practice at a time.

Clients From Scratch! How to Use Facebook Groups to Get Clients!06 Aug 202400:41:04

The number one complaint health coaches have when starting out in their practice revolves around client acquisition.  How do we get consistent clients, especially when we are brand new to the game?  How do we get clients when we aren't established and we might be on a tight budget as well?  This dilemna is the main reason why health coaches never get their businesses off the ground and end up putting their certifications in the attic.

In this episode, we invited Michael Krug back to the show to share his brilliant strategy on getting consistent clients.  Mike leverages Facebook groups to demonstrate his expertise and ends up getting paying customers readily willing to jump on his offers.  Listen in as Mike gives a step by step approach on this art and how this cost effective approach has been the backbone of his business.

Health coaches are naturally helpers.  We authentically care about our clients and are out for their best interests. This puts us at a distinct business advantage! Putting clients first is essential for building a successful business. This approach fosters loyalty, trust, and positive word-of-mouth referrals. When clients feel valued and understood, they are more likely to remain loyal and recommend your services to others. This client-centric approach not only enhances customer satisfaction but also drives business growth and sustainability.

Stephanie Fusnik joins the show to drive this point home.  Stephanie is nutrition coach, personal trainer, manual osteopathic and neurokinetic therapist, public speaker, and CEO of VitalityOET.  VitalityOET is a women's nutrition, health, and fitness company that focuses predominantly on women's hormones, particularly during perimenopause and onwards.  The company's  mission is to teach women about how their bodies change during this period of their life so that you can finally reach your health and fitness goals, feel in control and at home in your body again, live a life full of vitality, and really understand how to take care of this new body.

Networking Mastery: The Key to Getting Clients with Kenneth Tinglum01 May 202400:33:04

One of the most popular life phrases is, "It's not what you know, it's who you know".  This holds true for successful health coaching practices as well.  By building your network, you can get one of the most sought after leads any business owner would desire: referrals.  To this day, nothing beats a referral.  And mastering how to network in a way that gets you referrals will only build your bottom line.

To explain how to properly leverage your current network, we invited Kenneth Tinglum to the show.  Kenneth is a nutrition expert and a National Trainer at BNI.  His mission in both roles is to empower and uplift—whether it's helping business owners and professionals expand their networks and increase their revenue through building relationships and helping eachother, or guiding individuals towards their optimal health and wellness. Since 2007, he has been deeply involved in both, nurturing dynamic business networks and creating better health.

The Proper Way to Leverage Paid Ads with Yuri Elkaim16 Apr 202400:48:33

Is organic traffic dead?  Not exactly.  However, it isn't free.  It costs a ton of time.  So if you want to grow your business fast, you should consider spending money over spending your time. Health coaches can use paid ads to find more people by using ads on a variety of platforms from Facebook to Google and get themselves in front of their ideal clients in a hurry.  But this is an art and we would never recommend haphazardly throwing money against the wall with ads either.

So to guide us through the world of paid ads, we invited Yuri Elkaim to the show. Yuri is the CEO of Healthpreneur and a New York Times bestselling author.  Yuri overcame early health challenges and a career in professional soccer and built an online health empire, impacting over 500,000 lives and authoring three bestselling books. After selling his business in 2018, he launched Healthpreneur®, guiding health professionals in creating successful virtual practices. Since then, he has helped over 1300 entrepreneurs earn over $217M in collective revenue.
