What questions and explorations are most relevant to us in 2026, given its astrological and energetic flavors?

This year, I invited artist and astrologer Mara Smith to discuss the arc of the coming year.

2026 completes the outer planets’ transition into new signs.

It also features:

* The Saturn-Neptune conjunction, which happens approximately every 36 years.

* The nodal axis shifting into Aquarius-Leo

* Jupiter moving into Leo

Mara and I weaved a unique analysis that divides the year into 3 equal parts, inspired by Mara’s focus on the decans in her practice.

Mara Smith is an artist who enjoys playing at the intersections of mythic time, clock time, and synchronicity in mundane reality. An educator by trade and lifelong musician, under the musical project finfeather she blends genres to create a wide variety of songs, many of which are hymns planets, archetypes, and the decans of the tarot. Her astrological self is currently materializing in a flirtatious experiment with an alter ego, Lizzie, a devoted student of timelord, Saturn. Mara brings Lizzie's griffs, or creations, to life through music, poetry, prose, contemplations and conversations with the many divine individuals she is fortunate to know in community near and far.

Through the month’s astrology, the personal planets move in a tight Capricorn stellium into a tight Aquarius stellium, while making aspects to Saturn, Neptune, and Uranus before they leave water and earth signs.

How do we understand relationality through our unique experiences? How might practicing astrology assist us in the art of living in deeper acknowledgement of relationality and reciprocity? 

In this conversation with my friend Odette Blooms, who is an astrologer, an artist, and a mystic, we explored the theme of relationality as reflected through our lived experiences, as well as how Odette and I embody that experiential concept within our astrological & artistic practice. 

We discussed what it means to practice astrology as an art of connecting with spirit, of healing, and of remembering to give and receive love. We also spoke about the connection between relationality and reciprocity, as well as how these concepts make sense to us as immigrants who live at the intersections of collectivistic and individualistic cultures. 

It's a true conversation between two friends - a melding of two Mercurial, rhizomatic minds and two Venusian hearts. It moves at such a sweet, flowing, leisurely pace. To me, this is the tempo and the energy that Odette radiates out from their being: a gift of softening the edges of time through her presence.
