mardi 3 octobre 2023 • Durée 44:16
We got a great question in our free, migraine Facebook group for women (Healing Migraines Naturally, with Leslie Cisar, ND), from a woman who had just been prescribed Lyrica by her neurologist.
After reading the side effects, she wondered, IS HE NUTS?
Join us this week as we discuss why a medication like Lyrica might be prescribed for a migraine sufferer, what it's side effects are, and what long-term impact it could have on your health.
Please note: this podcast talks about the documented suicidality risk associated with Lyrica. If you’re in emotional distress or suicidal crisis, dial or text 988 (US) or go to https://findahelpline.com/i/iasp

46. Is Trigger Stacking Real When It Comes to Migraines?
mercredi 21 juin 2023 • Durée 33:17
This week on the podcast, Mari and I discuss a recent article on migraine.com that introduced the concept of “trigger stacking.”
The author, Tom Picerno, applies a concept he learned from dog training to his migraines.
While it’s a new term to any migraine sufferer, what he describes is a very real phenomenon that anyone with migraines can relate to.
However, he leaves his readers with no real solutions or hope that we can become less susceptible to migraine triggers – and that is not true – we can become more resilient to migraine triggers and start to live our lives with more freedom, and with the confidence that we can weather various triggers and stressors without getting a migraine! You are not doomed – I assure you.
I share my recent experience being outside in the hot sun for 2 hours (something that in the past would have DEFINITELY sent me over the edge and down in bed with a brain-busting migraine!) and breezed through it with ease! You can do this too!
Mari and I talk about the three things you need to do to restore your health and stop getting migraines – because when we are in a state of health, our body doesn’t generate migraines and we can tolerate all kinds of triggers and stressors!

45. Antidepressants and Migraine Prevention - Does it really help?
lundi 22 mai 2023 • Durée 53:12
For chronic migraine sufferers, there’s a progression of migraine medications - first your doctor is going to start with the triptans, or now, perhaps the oral CGRP antagonists like Nurtec or Ubrelvy.
But once those start to fail you, and you have to take more than is advised, your doctor is going to put you on daily preventative medication.
Usually you’ll start with things like propranolol or Topamax. But once those start to fail you - then your doctor is going to want to add in antidepressants like Amitriptyline or Nortriptyline - or maybe even Prozac, Wellbutrin, or Cymbalta.
But are antidepressants treating the root cause of your migraines or just suppressing the symptoms?
Do you really have an Amitriptyline deficiency?
In this podcast, Dr. Leslie and Mari go pretty deep into the lack of efficacy of these meds and the problems that many women have when they want to get off these meds. And - as always - they talk about the 3 things you need to do instead to restore and maintain your health – because when we are in a state of health – our body doesn’t generate migraines.
Finally, Dr. Leslie shares some profound information about how her health was destroyed when she took a suppressive medication and her journey of recovery and restoration.

44. Ozempic, the new hot drug in town - but does it help with migraines?
mercredi 10 mai 2023 • Durée 46:18
Lately, you can't open up your Facebook feed, People Magazine, TMZ, or other popular media outlets without hearing about the "new miracle celebrity weight loss drug" - Ozempic.
Ozempic - or its generic, semaglutide - was originally developed for Type 2 Diabetes, but now it has become so popular for weight loss, that there are shortages in some areas - so much so that diabetics can't get the medication!
Recently, a member of my free Facebook group for women with migraines asked if it had any benefit for migraine sufferers. Great question! This week, Mari and I are back to discuss this drug and the ramifications of it for migraine sufferers and diabetics alike.
This is one podcast you don't want to miss, if you enjoy Dr. Leslie getting on her soapbox! We cover the gamut in this podcast - everything from biochemistry to FDA regulatory capture!

43. Is Food My Best Medicine...or My Worst Enemy?
lundi 24 avril 2023 • Durée 46:43
We all know that the food we eat has a big impact on our overall health but many migraine-sufferers have an especially tricky relationship with food due to fear of food triggers.
So when we say “food is the best medicine,” how does that apply to someone who has to be extra picky about what they eat in order to avoid bringing on migraines?
In this episode Dr. Leslie talks with Mari about 3 principles that can help you use food as an ally instead of fearing it.

42. Exercise and Migraines
lundi 5 décembre 2022 • Durée 42:13
There are a few things you can typically expect after a great workout—an energy boost, some sweet endorphins, maybe a little soreness—but a debilitating migraine well, that’s one we’d never ask for. Unfortunately for some people, working out can actually be a migraine trigger, which is basically the least motivating news ever and really frustrating.
So how does something supposedly good for your body end up causing more harm? In today’s episode, Dr. Leslie explains why exercise can so easily bring on a migraine.

40. Spoon Theory: Right and Wrong
lundi 14 novembre 2022 • Durée 36:18
If you live with chronic migraines, you know how debilitating they can be. They can take all of your energy and make even the littlest action take an unbearable amount of effort.
“Spoon Theory” was developed in 2003 by writer Christine Miserandino as a way for people who live with chronic illness to express how health issues impact their ability to complete everyday tasks and activities.
In this episode, Dr. Leslie dives into Spoon Theory.
39. Why I Don't Wear the Purple Migraine Ribbon
lundi 7 novembre 2022 • Durée 47:03
If you support anything, the odds are there is a colored ribbon for that. Migraines are no exception, but what do these ribbons actually mean? Where did they come from? And who is behind them?
In this episode, Dr. Leslie discusses why she chooses not to wear or support the purple ribbon for migraine awareness.
