Build Up Boys; improving the emotional intelligence of boys and men25 Jul 202400:46:27

After years of listening to women speak about the challenges of relationships, communication issues with their heterosexual partners and difficulty discussing all things that are emotional with male identified partners, I thought we might dive deep into this by discussing why some grown men lack emotional intelligence by looking back to what they learn as boys.

Gender stories run deep in our culture. The inability for adult men to emote and express empathy harks back to age 4-5 when they begin to learn ways of being that dissociates them from their emotions and their bodies signals around how they are feeling.

Build Up Boys works with pre-K -fifth grade boys in order to rewire these gender stories; equipping boys with the necessary skills to retain their innate emotional intelligence and teaching their caregivers on why it is so important to let their boys feel and express their entire range of emotions.

Vulva Views- Why do vulva havers tend to suppress their own physical and emotional needs?25 Jan 202400:35:01

GynoCurious tries a new format! Joining Dr. Amy Novatt is Allison Chawla, LCSW, a frequent guest on GynoCurious. During Vulva Views they will discuss 'universal themes"; issues they have observed as women clinicians, human beings and vulva havers (themselves) that seem to be omnipresent in their profession and personal lives. In this first episode, they discuss why vulva havers tend to keep concerns about physical ailments and emotional needs suppressed or attended to only after taking care of everyone else in their lives. Is it internalized patriarchy, medical gaslighting, a psychology unique to vulva havers, moms, care-providers? Is it about not having enough time or a lack of awareness? Amy and Allison weave personal and professional knowledge and experiences with observation to discuss these inquiries.
