Episode 66 - Do You Know Soichiro Honda?

dimanche 1 décembre 2024Durée 14:09

Episode 66 - What Do You Know Soichiro Honda?

In this episode of the Guerrillapreneur Podcast, we delve into the legacy of Soichiro Honda, founder of Honda Motor Company.  Soichiro Honda was a Japanese engineer and, by all accounts, a Guerrillapreneur extraordinaire. In 1948, he established Honda Motor Co., Ltd. and oversaw its expansion from a wooden shack manufacturing bicycle motors to a multinational automobile and motorcycle manufacturer. While working on a piston ring project for Toyota, Honda became frustrated with the low-quality rings available on the market and decided to create his own. He mortgaged his house and started his first company, Honda Technical Research Institute, to manufacture the rings.   As you know, the story does not end there.  Listen and learn the Guerrillapreneur lessons Soichiro used to create a global titan.

Episode 65 - Do You Know Why They Call It The Model T?

samedi 16 novembre 2024Durée 10:47

Episode 65 – Why Do They Call It The Model T?

In this episode of the Guerrillapreneur Podcast, we delve into the story of Henry Ford's iconic Model-T. Have you ever wondered why it was named the Model-T? It was the culmination of Ford's numerous attempts, with models A through S not meeting his standards of success. Indeed, it took 19 iterations before the unveiling of the Model-T, which would revolutionize the automotive industry. Selling over 15 million units by the end of its production, the Model-T was not just a car; it was a symbol of disruptive innovation. However, Henry Ford's true guerrilla entrepreneurship shone through his ingenious use of Model-T's byproducts to create the Kingsford Charcoal brand. This venture was so successful that it enabled him to significantly increase the wages of his factory workers, showcasing Ford's commitment to both innovation and his employees.

Episode 55 - Guerrillapreneur Academy - 5 Steps Guerrillapreneurs Take During A Crisis

mardi 23 juin 2020Durée 22:17

In Episode 55, I introduce Guerrillapreneur Academy. Guerrillapreneur Academy episodes are shows where I provide tips and techniques that Guerrillapreneurs should consider to build their businesses. In this episode, I provide 5 steps Guerrillapreneurs should take during a crisis. As of June, 2020, the world was still dealing with the impact of COVID-19. Startups and small businesses have suffered from lack of demand while others have thrived due to a shift in consumer habits. Prior to January, 2020, grocery home delivery was not gaining traction. Shelter-in-place orders changed that. Before you adjust your business, I want you to consider the five steps outlined in this episode.

Episode 54 - Mastermind Interview with Lola Ojabowole - Fdr of Refolo - Plant-Based Food Tech

mardi 19 mai 2020Durée 36:10

In Episode 54, I interview Lola Ojabowale, a Dartmouth College alum, and the Founder and CEO of Refolo, the food-tech startup that is ending nutrition-related diseases by offering plant-based recipes and customizable weekly meal plans inspired by the culinary legacies of people of color.

Lola was inspired to launch Refolo after her father found out that he had cancer and the treatments affected the types of foods that he could eat especially meats. As she assisted him through his treatment journey, Lola realized that there were hundreds of plant-based alternatives. She also realized that her father was not the only person who needed help. Many African American communities navigate food deserts and have few alternatives for fresh fruits and vegetables. Refolo plans to solve these problems.

Episode 52 - Mastermind Interview with Rodney King, Owner of Mark's Mart - Surviving Walmart and Cooking For Oprah Winfrey

mardi 24 mars 2020Durée 51:52

Welcome to episode 52. In this episode, I interview the owner of Selma, Alabama-based Mark's Mart, Rodney King. Mark's Mart is a specialty shop that is know for it's high-end meal-combos and accompanying wines. Mark's Mart has been in business since 1978 in Selma, Alabama and has recently expanded to a second location in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Mr. King launched his specialty shop in a time when very few existed. In 2013, Oprah Winfrey began production on the movie "Selma." After filming the dramatic bridge scene, Winfrey wanted to share a meal with the cast. Oprah called on Mark's Mart to cater the dinner --and even though Mark's Mart is not in the catering business, King and his staff delivered a service and dinning experience fit for a billionaire. Rodney King points to these types of experiences as key to surviving and winning against chain competitors like #walmart. If you are a small business fighting for your life against chain competitors, this is the episode for you.

Episode 51 - Mastermind Interview with Robert Armstrong - Bootstrapping G Momma's Cookie Empire - Part 2

mardi 10 mars 2020Durée 34:43

Welcome to the 51st episode of Guerrillapreneur: The Art of Waging Small Business Warfare. In this episode, I complete my interview with Robert Armstrong, the CEO of the Selma Good Company and producer of G Momma Cookies. Armstrong launched G Momma Cookies from his kitchen and distributed them in as many as 2,500 stores. In 2018, the cookie started to crumble. Robert shares the lessons he learned from expanding too fast on the backs of partners who were not as reliable as he needed them to be. This is an emotional and touching episode. If you have ever built a business, grew it and then had to close it down, you know the pain Robert speaks of in this episode.
