Good day and thank you for joining me.  I’m very honoured and grateful.  If you’re here for the first time and think ‘what on earth is this unprofessional rubbish?’ then stay your judgement and you might find that after a few listens you are enfolded into a world of gentleness.  Nothing is asked of you other than to rest awhile, if you can and enjoy this podcast like you might enjoy sitting on a park bench, reading a book and surrounded by nature. Keep coming back and please, if you can, leave me a lovely review.  They gladden my heart.  You can leave a review on any of the platforms you use to listen to podcasts.  I will see it wherever it goes.

And to my dear subscribers who voluntarily fund my pots of tea in new locations, and money for the church pot, thank you so very much.  Stop after a while and hopefully others will come forward.  More than anything else I value your kindness, thoughtfulness and curiosity.  These are the arms with which we can stand against the nonsense and awfulness around the world.  Thank you and see you tomorrow x 🤓🌳🦢

Hello dear friends, followers, kind subscribers and newcomers.  My aim with this daily meandering through life is to find purpose for myself by expanding my mind and horizons while connecting with other people seeking to do the same thing.    My hope is that you feel welcome to join me as and when you are in need of some gentle company.  I want to share beautiful literature and poetry; architecture and photography.  I’m honoured by your company and ask nothing of you other than to try to let the worries of life fall away as you listen to readings and ponderings that take you - I hope - into a gentle, thoughtful headspace.  Welcome. 🌞

Dear old friends and new friends.  Happy December the first.  The opening of Advent and the beginning of winter.

How are you?  Are you fearing the month ahead? Daunted? Overwhelmed? Excited?  Moved? Is this a Christmas without a loved one?  I’m interested, truly, so let me know.  Sharing and connecting really does help.

Thank you to Diane for her poem recommendation, Robert Frost’s beautiful ‘The Road Not Taken’.  What road shall we choose not to take in 2026?  The road of fear? Of fecklessness? Of fickleness?  Or the road of grace? Of morale courage? Of kindness?  Of patience?

We can choose how we live our lives.  I can choose to not find fault in others; I can choose to practice patience, even though it doesn’t come naturally to me.  Each day, and each moment within the day, is a fresh now.  We can choose never to lie and always to apologise if we do or if we are unkind.  We don’t have a set character: we are free each day to form a new, better shape.

Thank you for joining me, so subscribe if you like what I do, and do get in touch: gretellem@yahoo.com.

Tomorrow we go à Londres! 🤗

Hello and a very happy Saturday. The last weekend in November. Tomorrow is Advent Sunday and Monday is the 1st. We’re also due another full super moon next week.  The waxing gibbous looks beautiful in the sky.

How are you and are you looking forward to Advent?  Do you buy a calendar and join in the fun?  Or do you find it all rather tedious?

Best wishes to you and I hope you may have an enjoyable Saturday evening.  I’m behind with my admin so apologies if you’re expecting an email reply or thank you.

Thank you so much for your support.  I’m particularly grateful to you if you subscribe.  Subscribers receive a couple of packages a year and much love and appreciation from me.  This podcast is a labour of love but it would be wonderful to make a little bit of income, to cover the sundries of life as I visit churches around Britain.  Eventually the plan is to visit churches around the world.  🌎🤓

If you feel like subscribing, remember you can subscribe as a one-off or for a couple of months.  It doesn’t have to be a long-term commitment.  It really is appreciated and helps so much.

My very best wishes

Good evening fair friends and any newcomers, welcome.  There is no Dickens in this episode, so those wanting to tune in to the next episode can skip this one if they are not in the mood for witterings.  Barchester Towers is proving to be a delight; and I hope you are enjoying it.  I have found the Anglo-Saxon Chronicles under a bookcase, so I can continue with that tomorrow.  Thank you for messaging me.  I think Barnaby Rudge is now being enjoyed by most people.  I  will visit more churches over the next week, and I look forward to starting Charlotte Brontë’s sublime Villette.  Goodnight. I wish you a very happy Easter.

Thank you so much for joining me dear friends and new companions.  Welcome to this odd, wholly unprofessional and low-key podcast where we take each day as it comes.  Enjoying literature, art, history, architecture and the natural world about us.

It would be lovely if you would forward this episode to someone who you think might like some warm and gentle company.  I would be so grateful.  Also if you have the time to give this a nice rating, that too would be appreciated hugely.  Thank you. ☺️

Love Gretel

Good evening and welcome to today’s second episode.  How are you? What are you up to?  Are you filled with peace and contentment, or with awful negative thoughts like shame and guilt.  We plague ourselves with such unhelpful thoughts and it’s an uncomfortable and rotten way to live.  We know from others around us that everyone does and says foolish things.  So we must treat ourselves with kindness and compassion.  Let the small stuff go, and tackle the big stuff over a boiled egg and tea in the morning.  Night times are for reading, diaries, and rest.

Good night 🤗
