Last week we heard the Apostle Paul sketch an outline for the rest of the book, and we focused on our identity as believers. In this passage, Paul gets to work trying to break the spell that's fallen upon the churches in Galatia, hoping that they'll hear and believe the gospel afresh.

In this passage, Paul sets forth a summary of the gospel of grace and its application to our identity personally and corporately. It's a dense package with lots of intricate arguments, but the overall emphasis is clear: we're justified through faith in Christ alone, not by works of the law.

This Sunday we complete our fall kick-off series entitled, "Commissioned into the King's Service." We'll look at Mark 8 and consider the conditions and calling Jesus sets out for those who would come after him. Following Jesus isn't easy, but it's eternally worth it.

As we continue this little series entitled, Commissioned: Called into the King's Service, we look to a second distinctive aspect of Christ's commission to his followers: to set out and catch men.

This is the first sermon of three in a series entitled, Commissioned: Clarifying Our Calling. This Sunday we look at Jesus' commission to be a people devoted to prayer.

Security is at a premium these days. We pay big time to be secure - or at least to feel secure. The sojourner needs the reminder and assurance as we travel: we're secure. This Psalm shouts the promises of the sojourner's eternal security to instill confidence and hope as we keep on keeping on.

What would compel one Apostle to publicly oppose and rebuke another Apostle? Doesn't that kind of confrontational activity and spirit hinder our missionary efforts and tarnish the church's reputation? Paul doesn't think so. Faithful servants of Jesus Christ must be diligent to build walls and bridges and to correct those who build them in the wrong places. This famous confrontation serves as a teaching moment for the church, showing us what's needed if we're going to have a healthy gospel culture that bears witness to the truth of the gospel.

Having received the gospel how did Paul handle the gospel? The other Apostles could see the grace of God given to Paul for gospel ministry. What should we expect to see from someone entrusted with the gospel and given grace to minister the gospel? We'll see in this section that those who are entrusted with the gospel have a great responsibility to steward the gospel for the sake of the church around the world.

Paul's words are sharp and meant to activate the church to get back on track with the one gospel of grace. We all need these warnings from time to time to keep us from making slight adjustments to the gospel or believing those who preach false gospels.

We're beginning a new sermon series in Paul's letter to the Galatians. Paul writes to help stabilize believers in the freedom of the gospel. Prepare your hearts to hear a glorious summary of God's great gifts and and a summons to give him great glory.

Many academics, experts and elites are unwilling to give a straightforward answer to the question, "what is a woman"? The Bible answers that question and also spells out the matter further, describing for us the mark of an excellent woman worthy of praise and pursuit.

Proverbs equip us in the art of godliness in every area of life through every stage of life. Every area of life includes the role of rulers. We'll consider God's wisdom speaking to our civil rulers, as well as to the rest of us who are created and called to rule under the ultimate rule of the Lord Jesus Christ.

We tend not to think of God as one who hates. But the Bible is clear that there are certain things God hates and expects that we, as his children, would hate as well.

God created us to work. Six days you shall work, and the seventh you shall rest. Solomon reminds us of the sinfulness of sloth and the goodness of working hard in the fear of the LORD.

We're back in the Proverbs again, taking a second pass over Proverbs 5-7, which is a tactical manual not only counselling us how to avoid sexual sin and adultery, but how to honour the LORD with our bodies and in our marriage.

Satan is cunning. Our hearts are often deceived by sin. We need strong warnings to guard us from stepping off the path of wisdom. In particular, we need God's warnings and wisdom in regard to our sexuality and marriage. Prepare your hearts to receive the word of warning about the deadly sin of adultery.

Solomon moves from instructing us how to honour God with our treasures to how to honour him in his school of training. When we're disciplined we often feel that God forgets us. But Solomon and the author to the Hebrews wants us to know it's just the opposite: because he loves us, he disciplines us.

We need to know that the gospel is in order to guard it. The Apostle Paul specifies those matters he categorizes as of first importance.
