Welcome to this new series on GP Excellence brought to you by the Greater Manchester Primary Care Provider Board.

As part of Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership, the Primary Care Provider Board support all of the 67 Primary Care Networks (PCNs) across Greater Manchester.

Responding to what is most important to PCNs, through GP Excellence we offer development programmes and resilience support. This podcast series supports this programme of work.

Whether you’re a GP, a manager or part of the administration team, you all have a key role to play and this series will arm you with advice and knowledge to help you do your job better and improve the patient experience.

Throughout the series, we’ll be speaking to expert guests in the area of inequalities, business development and much more.

How conscious or proactive is your practice when it comes to sustainability?

The NHS has a plan coming to be net zero by 2040 but what does that mean for you and your team and how can you help achieve that?

One area you could look at is prescribing inhalers which contributes to 13% of carbon emissions. That’s one of the things we’re going to be talking about in this episode.

Returning as host is Dr Joanna Bircher, GP in Stalybridge and Clinical Director, GP Excellence programme.

Her guest is Dr. David McKelvey a GP from Salford and NHS Greater Manchester Integrated Care Clinical Lead in Sustainability in Primary Care.

General Practice Community Pharmacist Consultation Service

The General Practice Community Pharmacist Consultation Service (GP CPCS) was piloted and launched in Manchester in late 2020.

It’s a pathway that general practices use to refer patients with minor illness or low acuity conditions to a community pharmacist.

In this episode we find out how it’s been going since it was launched and offer advice to any practices thinking of getting involved.

Our host for this episode is Dr Joanna Bircher, GP in Stalybridge and Clinical Director, GP Excellence programme.

Her guests are Luvjit Kandula, Director of Pharmacy Transformation for Great Manchester and Local Pharmaceutical Committee, Courtney Kenworthy, Lead Administrator for Hollywood Medical Practice in Oldham and Russell Nolan, Community Pharmacist working in Oldham and out of St Chad's.
