Go Fig-ure! God Uses Food to Talk to Us | Goodtaste for the Soul e3428 Jul 202500:36:13

Did you know food is mentioned more than 1,000 times in the Bible? Clearly, it plays a powerful role in God’s story—and in ours. I recently read (and then re-read) a fascinating book called Taste and See, which explores the deep connection between our physical hunger and our spiritual hunger. If you love food, this is a journey you won’t want to miss. God uses food not only to nourish us, but also to speak to us. Today’s guest is the fun-loving and insightful author of that book, Margaret Feinberg. Join us for a lively conversation as she shares the incredible journey she took around the world, exploring the foods that are central to God’s purpose in Scripture.

Jonathan McComb Flood Survivor & Giving Back | Goodtaste for the Soul e3321 Jul 202500:23:28

We Texans are known for our self-reliance, our unshakable sense of independence, and our faith in God.  But when the July 4th flooding disaster struck, we were reminded of another side of that Texas spirit: the deep, unwavering drive to show up for each other. For many here, these are the worst of times -- but they’ll get better, according to a man who has lived the horror many are going through right now. Jonathan McComb lost his wife and two young children in a catastrophic Texas flood 10 years ago—but his story didn’t end there. Today, he shares how faith and time have helped him slowly rebuild his life and why he’s committed to helping others find purpose again.

Grieving & Prayer with Pastor Max Lucado | Goodtaste for the Soul e3214 Jul 202500:35:00

Here in Texas, we’re hurting—but we’ll be okay. The sadness, the anger, and the struggle to make sense of the devastating floods weigh heavily on our hearts.  This week, I’m sitting down with New York Times bestselling author and pastor Max Lucado to get his perspective on the tragic flooding in the Hill Country.  How should we pray at a time like this? Is it okay to be angry, even to yell at God? And why do bad things happen to good people, even innocent children?

Join us for a conversation filled with honesty, hope, and healing.  I pray his words touch your heart as much as they touched mine.

Where Heaven Meets Hill Country : The Empty Cross | Goodtaste for the Soul16 Jun 202500:47:46

On a hill high above Kerrville,TX sits a beautiful, controversial, giant cross.
The idea for the cross was born more than 20 years ago when a gifted wildlife artist named Max Greiner listened to a still, small voice.  His journey since then is anything but small, and it’s a far cry from still.  The prayer gardens where the massive cross sits are visited by hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world.  Curiosity seekers, truth seekers even skeptics come to see and feel the energy that surrounds the beautiful gardens and its largest tenant, The Empty Cross.
In today’s episode, I talk to Max Greiner about the fascinating birth and evolution of the prayer gardens, officially called The Coming King Sculpture Prayer Garden. I witnessed first-hand how that beautiful place is changing the lives of those who come.

I approached this interview with a tad bit of reservation—I left feeling my life would be affected forever.

Today, we’re taking a little trip back in time—to the Catskills, also known as the Borscht Belt. If you’ve heard the stories, you know it was once the go-to summer escape, especially for Jewish families from New York. Think comedy legends before they were famous, family-style meals, and a kind of charm you just don’t see anymore. It was a whole world of its own—and one that left a lasting imprint on American culture.

There’s a wonderful fundraiser event for the Borscht Belt Museum that will happen in Houston later this month.  Everyone’s favorite Deli Man, Ziggy Gruber, is hosting  “A Night in the Borscht Belt” at the fantastic Kenny & Ziggy’s Deli.  Hope to see you there.

The biggest culinary event in Houston is right around the corner—Houston Restaurant Weeks! And while it’s definitely a food lover’s dream, it’s also something much more: the largest annual fundraiser for the Houston Food Bank, the biggest food bank in the country.

This incredible event was the brainchild of the late Cleverley Stone, a beloved media personality and true champion of Houston’s dining scene. Cleverley believed deeply in the power of food to do good—and her simple idea has grown into a citywide tradition that’s raised millions to help fight hunger.

After Cleverley passed away in 2020, her daughter Katie Stone stepped in to carry on the mission. Today, we’re sitting down for a lively conversation with Katie—who’s not only keeping her mother’s legacy alive, but making sure that no Houstonian goes hungry.

When the Pope’s American and the President’s on Fire GTFS E2419 May 202500:34:49

We now have an American Pope for the first time in history. And our President just wrapped up a bold trip to some of the world’s most powerful—and complicated—places.

It made me wonder: is there more going on here than just headlines? Are we witnessing a deeper shift—spiritually, culturally, even globally?

So I reached out to someone whose life of faith I deeply respect. Sister Nicole Trahan helps others find their purpose in life. For ten years, she was the Director of Vocations for the Marianist Sisters in the United States. I knew she’d bring a grounded, thoughtful perspective—on Pope Leo the Fourteenth, and on the moment we’re living in right now.

The Angel’s Spiral: Santa Fe’s Miraculous Staircase Goodtaste for the Soul 07 Apr 202500:36:12

The historic Loretto Chapel, located at the end of the Old Santa Fe Trail, draws visitors from around the world. Inside stands the Miraculous Staircase—an architectural marvel cloaked in mystery. This engineering feat makes two full 360-degree turns without any visible means of support.
According to legend, after the chapel was completed in 1878, the Sisters of Loretto realized they had no way to access the choir loft.  So, they prayed.  In response to their prayers to St. Joseph, a mysterious carpenter appeared. Using only simple tools and wooden dowels, he built the staircase and then disappeared without asking for payment. His identity remains unknown to this day, leading many to believe he may have been St. Joseph himself.

I spoke with the curator, who has overseen the staircase for more than 30 years. He shared fascinating context and insights into the origins of this inexplicable spiral.

Today’s episode is not an easy one—but it’s one of the most important we’ve ever shared. I’ve wrestled for months on how to share what I’ve learned about child trafficking. We’re joined by personal friends of mine whose world was forever changed when their daughter was trafficked. It’s the kind of story most parents think could never happen to their family, but their experience is a sobering reminder that no one is immune.

We’ll hear how they discovered what was happening, the heartbreak they endured, and the strength they’ve found in speaking out. Their story is raw, it’s real, and it’s a warning we all need to hear—because protecting our children means first understanding how this tragedy can unfold — evil is real as we’ve all witnessed this week.

Parents, grandparents, anyone who cares about kids—you’ll want to lean in for this conversation. It’s painful, but it’s also a call to action.

This isn’t lofty theory—it’s practical, step-by-step guidance for anyone who needs a way to pause, refocus, and nurture body and spirit in the middle of life’s chaos

Now, make room for Finding Jesus, a heartwarming twist on that holiday tradition, invented by a mom who wanted to bring the Christmas story to life for all children. Instead of searching for an elf, kids will follow this special doll each day leading up to Christmas, discovering the story of Jesus through Bible verses and engaging daily devotionals.
Creator Lillian Richey says the entire project was inspired by God from start to finish. In fact, the production process gave her an unexpected opportunity to share Jesus’ story with people in China — many of whom had never heard of Him before.

You may also recognize him from his work on television, where he’s brought attention to real-life rescue missions and the people fighting this crisis every day.

He also talks about what we can all do — how to stay aware, hold leaders accountable, and support the organizations doing this life-saving work.

He’s real, passionate, and full of heart — and this conversation will stay with you. It’s a powerful reminder that awareness is just the beginning… and that we all have a role to play in protecting our kids.
