Miracles of Faith and Medicine: An Update from Tanji

If you or someone you love has ever been given a tough medical diagnosis, you know what a rollercoaster ride the journey to getting help and healing can be.

Tanji received a diagnosis of a malignant tumor in her breast this summer and has been receiving treatment at the wonderful MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. There have been some unexpected bumps along the way—including three surgeries in one month.

In today’s update, she shares some of those ups and downs, along with some of your inspiring comments and personal stories of “Godwinks” and milagros—those little miracles that are simply too obvious to ignore.

What can a pencil teach us about Jesus?

Quite a lot, as you’re about to see through the work of my guest today, Bill Nichols.

Bill is a very gifted Texas artist, pastor, even the cofounder of a major cable network. These days, he creates in a beautiful—and surprisingly simple—way to bring the timeless parables of Jesus to life. His medium? A pencil.

In his new book, Parables in Pencil, Bill uses pencil drawings to help us see these familiar stories in a fresh way—sometimes making us pause, look a little closer and think about a truth we may have heard a hundred times, but never quite seen this way.

Bill holds a PhD in philosophy, but what struck me most about his work isn’t simply what he knows. It’s how he sees.

There’s something beautiful about taking these stories Jesus told 2,000 years ago and giving them new life through something as humble as a pencil.

And I think you’ll discover, as I did, that there’s a lot more behind these drawings than pencil and paper. There’s a beautiful soul, a deep faith and a gift for helping the rest of us see timeless truths in a new way.
