How Many Movies Hallmark Movies Has Crystal Lowe Directed?

Crystal Lowe has stepped behind the camera to direct two Hallmark movies so far: Shifting Gears, which came out in early 2024, and This Time Each Year. But her talents aren’t limited to Hallmark—she’s also directed three short films outside the network, proving she’s a force to be reckoned with both in front of and behind the camera.

Is Crystal Lowe Directing More Hallmark movies?

Though nothing’s been officially announced yet, it’s likely that Crystal Lowe will be back directing another Hallmark movie in 2025. After the success of Shifting Gears and the anticipation of This Time Each Year, there’s definitely buzz about her next project.

Signed, Sealed, Delivered Cameo in This Time Each Year?

Crystal Lowe teased on both her Instagram and in our interview that Signed, Sealed, Delivered fans might spot a familiar face in her new movie This Time Each Year. While she didn’t reveal exactly who it is, we can’t help but speculate – could it be one of the beloved POstables like Kristin Booth, Eric Mabius, or Geoff Gustafson making a surprise appearance? Keep an eye out, because this possible cameo is sure to excite fans of the series!

This movie was directed by Jonathan Wright. He is no stranger to Hallmark having directed “A Not So Royal Christmas” from the 2023 Countdown to Christmas line up. He also directed “Family History Mysteries: Buried Secrets” last year as well as “The Royal Nanny” and “Jolly Good Christmas” in 2022.

Related: Girls Gone Hallmark loved “Family History Mysteries: Buried Secrets” - listen to the review here.

The script is from Nikki DeLoach and Megan McNulty. Nikki and Megan wrote together on the 2021 movie "Christmas For Keeps."

Katherine McNamara plays Casey Barlowe. We last saw Katherine in “Love, Classified” from 2022. She has 70 acting credits including tons of episodes on the following the series: “Walker: Independence,” “Arrow” and “Shadowhunters.” Her resume is long and varied, and it’s nice to see her back on Hallmark.

Related: "Love, Classified" makes Girls Gone Hallmark top 5 movie list for 2022.

Markian Tarasiuk plays Eli Flint. Something about a dude in a cardigan, hello wowie-zowie. We’ve seen Markian in previous Hallmark projects like “Welcome to Valentine,” “Christmas at the Golden Dragon,” and “Our Italian Christmas Memories.” And grab your bingo cards… He was also in 2 episodes of “Virgin River.”

Marisa McIntyre plays Sarah. This appears to be Marisa’s second project for Hallmark having previously appeared in “Never Too Late to Celebrate” from 2022.

Sabrina Saudin plays PJ. Sabrina has just 9 previous acting credits and this is her first role for Hallmark.

Kat starts a new job at the local paper and finds herself covering a much different kind of story than she did in Minneapolis. The reporter in her becomes suspicious of Alice’s newfound contentment in Port Haven which, unbeknownst to her, is fueled by the time Alice is spending in the past with the Landrys during a happier time. Meanwhile, when Del gets an offer to buy the boat Colton bought for them, the prospect of selling it stirs up mixed emotions. About "Sealed with a List"

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PO7lPcYR_qg?si=4vjGggXc8mhiMerB&w=560&h=315]

This movie premiered on Saturday, December 16th as part of the Countdown to Christmas closing weekend.

“Sealed with a List” was filmed in and around New Westminster, BC. Some scenes were also filmed in Langley at Martini Town, a set owned by Martini Film Studios.

Emily Ting and Melynda Bissmeyer, along with Robin Gadsby are the writers on this film. Emily and Melynda had previously worked together on “Christmas at the Golden Dragon” in 2022 and Robin wrote “A Christmas Cookie Catastrophe” and “Christmas Sail” - which is a super under rated fave of ours from 2021.

Katie Findlay plays Carley. Katie has 30 previous acting credits including “Love Strikes Twice” in 2021 for Hallmark. You might also recognize her from “The Killing” on Netflix - which is an incredible crime thriller if you haven’t seen it. Katie was also in 26 episodes of “The Carrie Diaries” which was a SATC prequel, “How to Get Away with Murder,” “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist” and most recently “Walker: Independence” with fellow Hallmark actor, Katherine McNamara.

Related Podcast Episode: Girls Gone Hallmark reviews "Love Strikes Twice" starring Katie Findlay.

Evan Roderick plays Wyatt. Evan has 17 previous acting credits including the Aurora Teagarden prequel from earlier this year, “A Tale of Two Christmases” and “Autumn in the City” - all for Hallmark. Evan was also in 10 episodes of “Spinning Out” for Netflix where he used his experience on ice to use.

BJ Harrison plays Millie. BJ is a familiar face for Hallmark. She has 139 acting credits and has 4 upcoming projects - including “Holidazed” a project that has been in post-production purgatory. Maybe we’ll see it in 2024?

A New Year’s Resolution (Revisited)02 Jan 202400:33:23

If you've been listening to Girls Gone Hallmark for a while, you'll know that Wendy was not a fan of "A New Year's Resolution" from 2021. But hold onto your popcorn, because now, after watching nearly 200 Hallmark Channel flicks, Megan and Wendy decided to give this movie another chance. Could it be that the tides have turned, and "A New Year's Resolution" is actually not that bad after all? Time to find out!

Tell us what your favorite Countdown to Christmas movie from 2023! Email us at meganandwendy@gmail.com and be sure to check out the 2nd Annual Girls Gone Hallmark Best Christmas Movie bracket beginning on January 6, 2024 exclusively on our Instagram.

About "A New Year's Resolution"

The movie was originally titled “New Year, New Me.”

Filming locations included Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and St. Ambroise Beach Provincial Park in Canada. It was reportedly filmed in October and November 2019.

Aimee Teegarden plays Kelly. She currently has 38 acting credits according to IMDB. Aimee is probably most known as angsty Texas teenager Julie Taylor from “Friday Night Lights.” Since the conclusion of FNL she went on to star in “Once Upon a Christmas Miracle,” “My Christmas Family Tree,” “Heart of the Matter,” “Autumn in the City,” and “Christmas Class Reunion” for Hallmark Channel.

Michael Rady plays Tom. He currently has 55 acting credits. We most recently saw Michael in this “Where Are You, Christmas?” Other Hallmark movies of his include: “Unexpected Grace,” “The Christmas Bow,” “You’re Bacon Me Crazy” as well as fan-favorite “Love to the Rescue.”

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqP_L6hTqlU?si=Uwmd0QMSTSs27mzJ&w=560&h=315]

Kelly’s friend group was played by Elise Bauman (AJ), Patricia Issac (Lisa) and Devon Alexander (Jackson). Devon Alexander is one of those faces that shows up a lot in our Hallmark movies yet he’s never had a lead role. We last saw him in “Love in Glacier National,” “Where Your Heart Belongs,” “The Santa Stakeout” and “Chasing Waterfalls.”

Sarah Montana is the writer of the movie. Most recently she wrote “Rescuing Christmas” which premiered exclusively on HMN on Dec 7th. She’s also previously penned “If I Only Had Christmas,” “Two Turtle Doves,” and “Love to the Rescue.”

Lesley Demetriades directed. She has 11 directing credits, but only one since this movie and it was the CCB movie “A Christmas…Present” for GAF.

Why Was "A New Year's Resolution" Pulled From the Hallmark Schedule

  • A New Year’s Resolution was to air originally on December 28, 2019 as part of that year’s Countdown to Christmas. However, on December 16, 2019 a tweet from @HotlineHallmark revealed that the movie had been pulled from the schedule.

A few articles I found didn’t have many details as why the movie was pulled. Coincidence or not, but the movie’s producer Kevin Duda also had another movie pulled from the Hallmark schedule earlier that year.

A recent conversation with some peers in the industry mentioned that this movie was pulled because Bill Abbott - the head of Hallmark at the time - simply didn’t like the movie.

Round and Round28 Dec 202300:24:59

Girls Gone Hallmark is a weekly Hallmark movie review podcast. This week, hosts, Megan and Wendy, talk about "Round and Round" - a time loop rom-com starring Vic Michaelis and Bryan Greenberg. Don't let the time loop trope scare you off. This might be Hallmark's best movie of the 2023 Countdown to Christmas season!

About "Round and Round" Hallmark Movie

This movie was written by Tamar Lady. Tamar has just 7 previous writing credits! She wrote “Crashing Through the Snow” for Hallmark back in 2021, as well as a handful of episodes for “Pretty Little Liars,” “Hart of Dixie,” and “General Hospital: Night Shift.”

Stacey N. Harding directed. She has 12 directing credits including… "AMISH STUD: The Eli Weaver Story" starring Luke Macfarlane. For Hallmark she’s directed Hearts in the Game, “Love, Classified,” “Christmas Sail,” and one of the “Mystery 101” movies. Additionally, she has worked on “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist” as First Asst. Director, a reboot of “Charmed” and, wait for it… “UnReal.”

“Round and Round” was filmed east of Vancouver, BC, in a town called Maple Ridge from March through May, 2023 (according to Heavy.com)

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uFjJH8NhnY?si=l3lilMEC9VX3XKh5&w=560&h=315]

Vic Michaelis plays Rachel. She has 24 acting credits which include a lot of shorts and videos but has also been in episodes of “Bless this Mess,” “Upload,” the reboot of “Charmed” and a sketch comedy series called “CollegeHumor Originals.”

Bryan Greenberg plays Zach. He’s probably best known for his role as Jake on One Tree Hill but his other 47 acting credits include ABC’s “October Road,” “How to Make it in America” on HBO, “The Mindy Project,” “Bride Wars,” “Friends with Benefits” and “Prime” (one of my favorite movies!). Upcoming for Bryan is a thriller he wrote, directed and starred in called “Junction” - which also stars his wife, Jamie Chung and former One Tree Hill Sophia Bush.

Rick Hoffman plays Rachel’s dad Stan. Hoffman has been in a lot! He has 65 acting credits including “Billions,” 134 episodes of “Suits,” “Ballers,” “Samantha Who?” and so many more.

David Attar plays terrible boyfriend Adam. Now David might be the only actor who has previously been in a Hallmark movie. We’ve seen him in “Guiding Emily” “Field Day” “Unexpected Grace” “A Fabled Holiday” “Autumn in the City” and “Nikki & Nora: Sister Slueths. ”

Related Podcast Episode: Girls Gone Hallmark reviews "Unexpected Grace," a movie that drew some controversial takes from the Facebook group!

Paula Shaw plays Grandma Rosie. She has 89 other acting credits, many Hallmark movies - so David Attar isn’t our only Hallmark vet. We’ve seen her in “Hanukkah on Rye” “Wedding of a Lifetime” “The Wedding Veil Legacy” and “It Was Always You” amongst others.

At the time of recording this episode, Round and Round ranked # 26 in ratings for the Countdown to Christmas premieres, with 1.54M live viewers.

About "Catch Me If You Claus"

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2lmhshNjOI?si=fc1-RwNg42orZhrq&w=560&h=315]

Nina Weinman wrote the script for “Catch Me If You Claus.” Nina has 32 previous writing credits including “Napa Ever After” and “A Nashville Legacy” both from earlier this year. Nina has written a total of 30 movies for Hallmark since 2010. I also just learned from Nina herself that she has three more scripts just put into development.

This was directed by Bradley Walsh. He has 44 previous directing credits including many projects for Hallmark. I did want to point out that he has also directed a couple of episode of the series “Sullivan’s Crossing” which stars Chad Michael Murray and Scott Patterson (that’s Luke from Gilmore Girls) - where season 1 is currently airing on the CW. If you’re a GGH listener and watching “Sullivan’s Crossing” drop us an email or a DM and let us know if it’s something we should be watching.

Italia Ricci stars as Avery. Ricci has 27 previous acting credits. Her last film for Hallmark was “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” in 2021, which was also written by Nina Weinman. Her work outside of Hallmark includes a show called “The Imperfects” which is a sci-fi action series now streaming on Netflix. Of course you might also recognize her from the 53 episodes of “Designated Survivor” or as April Carver in “Chasing Life.”

Related Podcast Episode: Girls Gone Hallmark reviews "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" with Italia Ricci.

Luke Macfarlane stars as Chris. This is Luke’s second movie for Hallmark since returning to the network after a short hiatus. Earlier this year we saw him in “Notes of Autumn.” Luke continues to work outside of Hallmark with a recent true-crime movie for Lifetime called “Amish Stud: The Eli Weaver Story” as well as a movie called “Lone Star Bull” which is currently in post production.

Related Podcast Episode: What did we think of "Notes of Autumn" - Listen to the review here.

“Catch Me if You Claus” was filmed in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada - which according to TheCinemaholic.com - shooting started at the end of October 2023 and was wrapped up by November. This came out on Thanksgiving Day. Is that the tightest turn around we’ve seen or do you think those dates are inaccurate?

Bethany Joy Lenz stars as Lucy Hardgrove. Her appearance on the CW series "One Tree Hill" is probably the biggest project in her 43 acting credits, but she made a big impression paired with Tyler Hynes in "An Unexpected Christmas" in 2021.

His 76 acting credits include his beloved role on the "Mystery 101" series, a role in the recent Amazon Prime Video book adaptation Harlan Coben’s "Shelter," and of course roles in Hallmark romances like "We Wish You a Married Christmas" and "A Dickens of a Holiday!"

Haul Out the Holly: Lit Up29 Nov 202300:27:55

Girls Gone Hallmark is a twice-weekly Hallmark review podcast. Today, Megan and Wendy, review the Lacey Chabert sequel "Haul Out the Holly: Lit Up." With its excellent ensemble cast and razor-sharp dialogue, could this sequel sleigh the first movie? Download and listen now!

About Haul Out the Holly: Lit Up

Director - Maclain Nelson - His 14 directing credits include this year’s "A Heidelberg Holiday" and of course the OG "Haul Out the Holly."

Writer - Chris Sey  - With only 6 credits, Christopher has only written one previous Hallmark movie, "You’re Bacon Me Crazy." He was not the writer on the first "Haul out the Holly.

Christopher Sey’s incredible efforts during the pandemic. While researching him, I learned that his wife is an ER doc at a hospital in Los Angeles. Along with some friends, he founded a non-profit called DINE ONE ONE that not only provided meals for healthcare workers, but also supported local restaurants.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWH8LIluLtQ?si=E1WGKYE-f6pxiaQT&w=560&h=315]

"Haul out the Holly: Lit Up" was filmed in Utah in September 2023.

Lacey Chabert (Emily) - With 175 acting credits it’s safe to say Lacey is more than just the queen of Christmas. She also appeared in "A Merry Scottish Christmas" and "The Dancing Detective" this year in addition to reprising her role as Gretchen Werner’s in a Walmart Black Friday commercial.

Wes Brown (Jared) His 48 acting credits include a ton of Hallmark, but believe it or not we’ve only reviewed two of his movies here on GGH. Wes dropped his Christmas Jazz album this year titled "My Kind of Christmas."

Stephen Tobolowsky (Ned) - Stephen wins the prize for most acting credits of an Actor Appearing on Hallmark, if such a prize exists, with 290 credits. What hasn’t he been in? He was a series regular on "The Goldbergs," "One Day at a Time," "Californication," "Silicon Valley" and "Heroes" and we’re glad to have him on Hallmark.

Related Podcast Episode: Girls Gone Hallmark reviews the original "Haul Out the Holly" from 2022.

Melissa Peterman (Pamela) Melissa always lights up the screen in any role among her 36 acting credits. She appeared in "Baby Daddy" on Netflix and of course her role as Barbara Jean on "Reba" is iconic.

Ellen Travolta (Mary Louise) - yes, that Travolta! She has 52 acting credits and appeared in series like "Charles in Charge" and "Joani loves Chachi." In addition to reprising her role as Mary Louise on "Haul Out the Holly," she’s reprising a 30 year old role on "General Hospital" as Gloria Cerullo coming up soon.

Jennifer Aspen (Jane Johnson). She has 84 acting credits including 44 episodes as Daphne in the series "Party of Five" (with Lacey Chabert).

Seth Morris (Joe Johnson). He doesn’t have as many acting credits as Stephen Tobolowsky, but with 138 the dude has been in some stuff. Including, "The Big Leap" (a FOX one-season series), HBO’s "Veep," Netflix’s "Love," "The Good Place," "Parks and Rec," "The League" and so much more.

We got a quick cameo from Eric Mabius who plays Allan, Pamela’s husband.

This blog post is a synopsis of the ideas we discuss in greater detail on our podcast, "Girls Gone Hallmark." If you’re a fan of Hallmark movies, be sure to tune into our episodes and join us for some festive analysis and fun!

What We Liked

We absolutely adored this movie. Here are some of the highlights:

The Seal: Oh yes, the seal named Peppermint totally stole our hearts. Keith even shared behind-the-scenes details about how those realistic seal scenes were shot!

Locations: The film showcases real places in Mystic, making it a genuine love letter to this charming town. You can visit Stiff Bakery for a chestnut croissant or Mango's Pizza, which served real pizza on set.

The Cast: Patti Murin was amazing and her character added so much warmth. We also loved Jesse Schramm and Chandler Massey's chemistry—they were top-notch.

Wardrobe: We couldn’t stop gushing over Juniper's coats, especially that striking green one. Keith’s costume designs, as always, elevated the movie.

Writing: Nicole Drespel's script was a true gem, filled with witty lines and meaningful dialogue. We particularly liked Juniper's line about traditions: “Do you like it? Or do you just remember it?”

What We Wished For

While we loved the movie, there were a few things we wished were different:

Hallmark News - October 2023

TMZ reported that the Queen of Christmas Lacey Chabert recently reunited with Mean Girls co-stars Lindsay Lohan and Amanda Seyfried to film a Pepsi ad. Me thinks this might be a Super Bowl ad, maybe?

Brant Daughtery announced that he and his wife, Kimberly, are expecting a second baby in early 2024. Daughtery will next be seen in this year’s hardest to pronounce title “Joyeux Noel” on October 29th.

We’re starting to see posters for the Countdown to Christmas movies emerge! And commercials on Hallmark Channel. What do you think of the "Christmas on Cherry Lane" poster?

About "3 Bed, 2 Bath, 1 Ghost"

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVD1XY_GXXE?si=K15u4K02vqkXSUH8&w=560&h=315]

Stars Julie Gonzalo and Chris McNally. These two are a real life couple - though I’m not sure if they are married. Seems like they are super private. They did have a baby in June 2022.

Gonzalo plays Anna. She has 48 acting credits including Cut, Color, Murder from 2022. We last reviewed her for fan-favorite movie Pumpkin Pie Wars.

Chris McNally plays Elliott. Chris is known for his role as Lucas on When Call the Heart. He has 40 acting credits. Outside of Hallmark, he was seen in Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies and Firefly Lane - both from 2023.

Madeleine Arthur plays ghost Ruby. She was a regular in the now canceled series "Blockbuster," she played Mae in "Devil in Ohio," and she played Chris in all three “To All the Boys I’ve Loved” movies.

The story is by Gregg Rossen & Brian Sawyer. The teleplay included both Gregg Rossen, Brian Sawyer, and Joie Botkin.

Gregg Rossen has written a TON of Hallmark movies including The Professional Bridesmaid, The Winter Palace, The Santa Stakeout and more. In fact, his IMDB reads like he’s only written Hallmark movies.

Brian Sawyer resume reads almost identical to Gregg Rossen.

Joie Botkin is one of our favorite Hallmark writers. Her next Hallmark film is the Tyler Hynes movie "Never Been Chris’d."

Filmed in and around Vancouver, British Columbia, in Canada — more precisely in Burnaby, which is located about 15 to 20 minutes outside of Vancouver.

The movie was filmed from June 12 to June 30, 2023.

The rural estate used is known as Copper Stone mansion located in Langley. Other television shows like "Riverdale," "Bates Motel," and "Supernatural" have also used the property.
