Title: The Great Spring
Subtitle: Writing, Zen, and This ZigZag Life
Author: Natalie Goldberg
Narrator: Natalie Goldberg
Format: Unabridged
Length: 7 hrs and 20 mins
Language: English
Release date: 07-15-16
Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 7 votes
Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Buddhism & Eastern Religions
Publisher's Summary:
What does it take to have a long writing life? Drawing on her years of writing, teaching, and practicing Zen, Natalie Goldberg shares the experiences that have opened her to new ways of being alive - experiences that point the way forward in our lives and our writing.
The "great spring" of this book title refers to the great rush of energy that arrives when you think no life will ever come again - the early yellow flowering forsythia, for example. It also refers to enlightenment: obstructions shatter, pain cracks open, previously resisted truth releases, an acceptance of transiency flows through.
Natalie Goldberg shares the moments that have sprung from her own life of writing, teaching, and Zen practice - moments of searching, wandering, zigzagging, losing, and leaping where she has found herself and her voice. In this audio, we watch as Natalie "makes positive effort for the good" - one of the guiding rules of her writing life - and we see that if we can stay attentive in our lives, even in the middle of the ruins, "we can hear the sound of a songbird in a Paris chestnut tree". Whether we know if the song comes from inside us or out doesn't matter.
13 of the 22 essays in the book have been previously published (often in a different form). Those publications include Yoga Journal, Shambhala Sun, Five Points, and Creative Nonfiction.

Language: English
Release date: 11-17-14
Publisher: Pariyatti
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 10 votes
Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Buddhism & Eastern Religions
Publisher's Summary:
Two lectures on Buddhism by Bhikkhu Bodhi. The first part explores the Buddha's mission, the second his doctrine and path.
Excerpt from the introduction:
"That the Buddha's teaching should remain perennially relevant throughout the changing eras of human history, that his message should be undimmed by the sheer passage of time, is already implicit in the title by which he is most commonly known. For the word 'Buddha', as is widely known, is not a proper name but an honorific title meaning 'the Enlightened One', 'the Awakened One'. This title is given to him because he has woken up from the deep sleep of ignorance in which the rest of the world is absorbed; because he has penetrated the deepest truths about the human condition; and because he proclaims those truths with the aim of awakening others and enabling them to share his realization. Despite the shifting scenarios of history over 25 centuries, despite the change in world views and modes of thought from one epoch to the next, the basic truths of human life do not change. They remain constant, and are recognizable to those mature enough to reflect on them and intelligent enough to understand them. For this reason, even today in our age of jet travel, computer technology, and genetic engineering, it is perfectly fitting that the One who has Awakened should speak to us in words that are just as powerful, just as cogent, just as illuminating as they were when they were first proclaimed long ago in the towns and villages of Northeast India."

This audiobook is the new translation newly revised by a Committee at the Bahá'í World Centre, copyright 2014. Some Answered Questions includes a wide range of questions and answers compiled from a series of talks given by 'Abdu'l-Baha in 1904, 1905, and 1906 while at the supper table. The answers were given in reply to questions posed by visiting pilgrims, especially Laura Clifford Barney. Later these answers recorded in Persian were translated into French and English. They constitute a rich source of philosophical and spiritual wisdom with answers that often bypass conundrums or controversies which have limited debate for many centuries. Treating human subjects and human spiritual destiny as well as the nature of creation as inseparable, these answers altogether represent a vision which surpasses any given in the past and which will inform and balance the thought of much intellectual and spiritual life in the future.

Not a doctrine but an intuitive process that comes out of your own inquiry and self-honesty, natural freedom is a way of "feeling into" your heart to uncover the truth in your daily life - a truth that will empower you to live with courage, compassion, and radical self-responsibility.
Through seven guiding principles, highlighted by Clements' real-life stories as an activist and former Buddhist monk in Burma, this Western visionary will help you ignite a passion for life that results in full, spontaneous engagement in the world. In four sessions, you will learn specific steps you can take to transform your day-to-day encounters into vehicles of liberation for yourself and others.

Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 50 votes
Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Buddhism & Eastern Religions
Publisher's Summary:
This lucid overview of the Buddhist path takes the perspective of the three "vehicles" of Tibetan Buddhism: the Hinayana, Mahayana, and Vajrayana. While these vehicles are usually presented as a historical development, they are here equated with the attitudes that individuals bring to their Buddhist practice. Basic to them all, however, is the need to understand our own immediate condition. The primary tool for achieving this is meditation, and The Essence of Buddhism serves as a handbook for the various meditative approaches of Buddhist practice.
Beginning with the Four Noble Truths, Traleg Rinpoche incorporates the expansive vision of the bodhisattva path and the transformative vision of Tantra. The final chapters present the transcendent view of Mahamudra. This view dispenses with all dualistic fixations and directly realizes the natural freedom of the mind itself. Along the way, the author provides vivid definitions of fundamental concepts such as compassion, emptiness, and Buddha-nature, and answers common questions: Why does Buddhism teach that there is "no self"? Are Buddhist teachings pessimistic? Does Buddhism encourage social passivity? What is the role of sex in Buddhist Tantra? Why is it said that "samsara is nirvana"? Does it take countless lifetimes to attain enlightenment, or can it be achieved in a moment?

Publisher: Dharma AudioBooks
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 3 votes
Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Buddhism & Eastern Religions
Publisher's Summary:
This remarkable collection of 73 verses contained in the 'Khuddaka Nikaya' section of the Pali Canon dates from the BC 6th century. It is said to be the earliest voices of women in recorded history. The verses, some brief, some more extended, are the utterances of the bhikkhunis, the nuns at the time of the Buddha, concerning their life and their awakening.
Often they give a penetrating insight to the life of women in ancient India: high-ranking members of courts, courtesans, wives of merchants and farmers - women from all social levels who left their homes to follow the spiritual life as forest renunciants.
This recording also includes the personal histories of many of the individuals written by the 6th century CE monk Dharmapala who had access to sources which are now lost. Among these individuals are some famous bhikkhunis whose stories are more widely known, including Kisagotami (and the mustard seed), Mahapajapati Gotami (the first woman to request ordination from the Buddha), and Dhammadinna (once praised by the Buddha for her Dhamma talk).

Author: Charles River Editors
Narrator: Todd Van Linda
Format: Unabridged
Length: 1 hr and 11 mins
Language: English
Release date: 05-13-15
Publisher: Charles River Editors
Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Buddhism & Eastern Religions
Publisher's Summary:
A lot of ink has been spilled covering the lives of history's most influential figures, but how much of the forest is lost for the trees? Throughout time, people have been religious by nature, and billions today adhere to unique faiths across the world. In Charles River Editors' Religions of the World, listeners can get caught up to speed on today's religions and yesterday's religions in the time it takes to finish a commute, while learning interesting facts long forgotten or never known.
In the west, Hinduism is a religion that everyone has heard of, but one that few nonpractitioners truly understand. Today, it is widely regarded as one of the world's great religions and considered the indigenous religion of India, with practices and beliefs stretching back thousands of years.
However, many of these so-called facts are actually erroneous. Hinduism, as it is conceived of today, is a conglomerate of a number of indigenous Indian religions; in fact, prior to the migration of Islam and the corporate invasion of the British, Hinduism may not have existed at all. Rather, a number of local religious traditions had very old belief systems dating back hundreds or thousands of years, depending on the tradition, and many worshiped gods that are no longer worshiped today. In essence, it was only the nonindigenous populations in India, namely the Turks and later the British, who defined what Hinduism was. The British in particular asked only a certain subset of native informants from Bengal "what their religion was" and got a very particular answer, giving rise to the west's perception of a singular religious Indian tradition known as Hinduism.

Publisher's Summary:
Osho explains that these sutras are concerned with aspects of man's unawareness and that Buddha's whole message is concerned with the raising of our consciousness. These sutras were compiled by Buddha's disciples to contain the essence of all his teachings. This was the last turning of the Wheel of Dharma, 2,500 years ago. At the beginning of his commentaries on these sutras, Osho says he is setting the Wheel of Dharma in motion again.
"Buddha transformed the word meditation. Meditation had always been something of the mind, and Buddha brought a new quality, so totally new, diametrically opposite to the old meaning: He said, meditation means a state of no mind. It is not concentration; it is not contemplation. It is not thinking; it is not thinking about God. It is not even prayer - because thinking is of the head, intellectual; prayer is emotional. That is another side of the head, not very far away from it; a different language used by another part of the head." (Osho)
Talks are "meditating talks", allowing the listener an experience of meditation. "These words of Buddha come from eternal silence. They can reach you only if you receive them in silence."

Publisher's Summary:
Many ancient cultures teach that sacred knowledge continuously emerges from the universe in the form of the primordial teachings. These universal truths come into being spontaneously and exist perpetually and eternally because they cannot be destroyed. As time and consciousness pass from one world to the next, these sacred truths of eternal wisdom reveal themselves, granting mortal man the opportunity to learn the true nature of the Creator's intentions regarding the universal forces that control everything around us, the higher mind, and the hidden workings of the process of enlightenment.
Part two of this series is focused on expanding human consciousness. We cover the following advanced studies: How do the primordial teachings reach our planet? What is primordial radiation? What are the universal forces that are radiated by the primordial particles? How does primordial radiation affect human consciousness? How can we use primordial energy to increase our spiritual power? Why does the primordial power within remain dormant in the vast majority of people? What role do primordial particles play in the lives and functions of animals, plants, and humans? How may we understand and develop the energy potential of these particles for the advancement of mankind?

Osho sees Zen not as a historical spiritual tradition but as the future spirituality of a humanity that has matured to the point that people no longer need religions controlled by priesthoods and based on fearful superstitions that cripple people's innate intelligence and divide them from one another.
This series of talks offers a deeper understanding of the underlying differences between Eastern and Western approaches to religion and the nature of consciousness. It's a beautiful introduction to a world where each individual has the capacity for an instant and profound understanding of existence and a rebirth of the trust in life that each of us is born with.
Dang Dang Doko Dang represents the sound of the drum beaten by a Zen master in an existential lesson for a disciple. As well as symbolizing the poetic quality of Zen, the title represents the special flavor of this collection of Osho's commentaries on well-known Zen stories. This volume is part of the Osho Classics series and also includes Osho's responses to questions about the meditation technique of Zazen.

It is widely accepted that the Sutta Nipata contains 'the earliest recorded version' of the Buddha's teaching. It is an anthology of poetry and prose - 70 titled suttas of varied instruction and temperament arranged in five chapters.
At the start are two of its most famous suttas: The Snake, in which the actions of the practising bhikkhu approaching liberation is likened to a snake that 'leaves its old worn-out skin'; and The Rhinoceros Horn, which expounds the virtue of solitude for those with serious spiritual intent.
But this anthology is full of character and characters: the Buddha condemns caste (which still blights Indian society); he engages with a varied host of questioners, from householders and brahmins to spiritual seekers, clarifying their confusions and exhorting them to pursue a path of wisdom and compassion.
Uncompromising and ancient in tone, it offers a flavour of the very early days of the Buddha's teaching and the India of his time. K. R. Norman's authoritative translation ensures clarity and immediacy of comprehension.

Length: 5 hrs and 53 mins
Language: English
Release date: 11-24-14
Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 5 votes
Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Buddhism & Eastern Religions
Publisher's Summary:
The Bhagavad Gita, perhaps the most famous of all Indian scriptures, is universally regarded as one of the world's spiritual and literary masterpieces. Richard Davis tells the story of this venerable and enduring book, from its origins in ancient India to its reception today as a spiritual classic that has been translated into more than 75 languages. The Gita opens on the eve of a mighty battle, when the warrior Arjuna is overwhelmed by despair and refuses to fight. He turns to his charioteer, Krishna, who counsels him on why he must. In the dialogue that follows, Arjuna comes to realize that the true battle is for his own soul. Davis highlights the place of this legendary dialogue in classical Indian culture, and then examines how it has lived on in diverse settings and contexts. He looks at the medieval devotional traditions surrounding the divine character of Krishna and traces how the Gita traveled from India to the West, where it found admirers in such figures as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, J. Robert Oppenheimer, and Aldous Huxley. Davis explores how Indian nationalists like Mahatma Gandhi and Swami Vivekananda used the Gita in their fight against colonial rule, and how contemporary interpreters reanimate and perform this classical work for audiences today.
An essential biography of a timeless masterpiece, this audiobook is an ideal introduction to the Gita and its insights into the struggle for self-mastery that we all must wage.

"But let not metta be mistaken as a mere sentiment. It is the power of the strong. If the leaders from different walks of life were to give metta a fair trial, no principle or guideline to action would be found to possess greater efficiency or fruitfulness in all spheres. If man decides to substitute metta as a policy of action for aggression and ill will, the world will turn into a veritable abode of peace. For it is only when man shall have peace within himself, and boundless goodwill for others, that peace in the world will become enduring."

Publisher's Summary:
This audiobook contains an easily accessible overview of the Hindu religion, with a focus on those coming from the Western religions and cultures. While quite a few of us in the west are familiar with at least some aspects of the religion (karma, for instance), most of us lack any real depth of understanding of the complexities and nuances of one of the world's oldest and most diverse religions. I hope that by listening to this book you can at least begin to scratch the surface of this rich and intricate religion.
We will cover the basics of the belief system, including the concepts of karma, reincarnation, ahimsa, and the one Supreme Being. These concepts unite all the various sects of the Hindu religion, as well as all of the regional and familial variations in what is a rich and complex religion.
The pantheon of the gods is described, with an emphasis on each god's function. The rich symbolism present in their depictions is also explored, for a small sampling of the main deities. A full treatment of the symbolism is a subject worthy of a full semester college course. Not only is Hinduism rich in its diversity of gods and goddesses, it is also filled with many different rituals and festivals. Some of the most important rituals that punctuate the life of a Hindu are described. Rituals that are performed for pregnancy, birth, and death are common. Like we are accustomed to in the west, the Hindu religion also celebrates many holidays. I describe some of the most popular.
Finally, I give a brief overview of what can only be considered one of the largest collections of religious scriptures in the world. They number over 100, though not all are accorded the same significance.
This work is intended to serve as a jumping off point for you to begin your self-exploration of the world's oldest and third largest religion.
Listen to the audiobook today to learn more about this fascinating religion.

If we want to define Siddhas in a word, they are "marmayogis", in possession of the great secret of living, not easily understood by ordinary men. They have understood the meaning of the cycle of birth and death. They have directly experienced the divine by means of their meditative powers. But despite their detachment, they are full of love and goodwill for ordinary men.
Siddhas have taken human birth only to hold up a mirror for the self-development of ordinary individuals. They have shown the infinite treasure house of self knowledge.
The siddha system of medicine is synonymous with the Tamil system. The mushrooming of yoga centers all over the country owes its genesis to their system of medicine.
They have performed several wondrous deeds. For example, walking on water and fire, flying in air, leaving one body and assuming another, transforming ordinary earth to gold, these are some of the things they have shown. Whole mountains have been transformed into gold.
A siddha saint who lived the life of an ordinary goatherd shook the nine planets. It was a siddha saint who helped Raja Raja Chozhan to install a lingam in the Thanjavur temple.
In Srirangam, the presiding deity happily gifted his jewels and another siddha saint controlled Kali in a cemetery. Yet another siddha saint dug a secret underground passage to Palani in order to clarify his doubts.
Siddha saints have worked many great deeds. Listen to this audio explanation of the greatness of Siddha saints. You too will be electrified by it.

Publisher's Summary:
Having realized, as a 16 year old in pre-WWII London, that he was a Buddhist, the early life of Dennis Lingwood and his path to becoming a bhikkhu named Sangharakshita is a most extraordinary personal story. He was serving as a signals officer in India when, at the conclusion of the war, he threw away his official identity cards, took off his uniform, donned yellow robes and set off, barefooted, along the dusty paths of India as a spiritual seeker, begging for his food, as the Buddha did 2,500 years ago.
The determination and vision behind those early steps, combined with single-mindedness and intellectual rigour, transformed the path of Western Buddhism, for after 20 years in India Sangharakshita returned to England to found a Western Buddhist movement, now called the Triratna Buddhist Order.
The Rainbow Road tells of that early time in India, meeting spiritual teachers from Hindu and other religious traditions, encountering the disturbing caste system and overcoming obstacles, disappointments and numerous challenges. A totally absorbing autobiography.

Publisher's Summary:
Pick up a newspaper or turn on the television, and you're bound to see suffering. And it's not just on the news; we struggle with great and small issues all the time, as do our families and friends. How do we respond to the cries of the world? There's so much suffering that it often seems easier to retreat into distance and cold-heartedness, but each of us is born with the ability to give. When we allow that giving to happen naturally, something comes to life: we learn to listen to the cries of the world with our whole body and mind, and we see how easy it is to turn things around with simple actions and gifts. To really take on the responsibility of caring, to willingly accept the consequences of love, transforms our lives entirely.
Zen Buddhism emphasizes zazen, or seated meditation, as the means to study the self and understand who we truly are. Dharma talks are an essential aspect of Zen training and take place in the context of zazen. Said to be "dark to the mind and radiant to the heart", a dharma talk is one of the ways in which a teacher points directly to the heart of the teachings of the Buddha. In our meditation practice, it is easy to get lost in self-doubt, fantasy, numbness, and emotional agitation. Dharma talks help to ground our practice, providing inspiration and an essential recognition of exactly where we find ourselves, so that we can learn to face difficulties and obstacles with a free and flexible mind. This talk was given at Zen Mountain Monastery or the Zen Center of New York City of the Mountains and Rivers Order of Zen Buddhism, founded in 1980 by the late American Zen Master John Daido Loori, Roshi (1931-2009).

Publisher's Summary:
Penguin presents the audiobook edition of The Art of Stopping Time by Pedram Shojai, read by John Sackville.
The Art of Stopping Time guides the listener through 100 practices to help busy people practice mindfulness and a slowing of time wherever they might be: in the shower, sitting in traffic, or dealing with an overflowing inbox. Our perception of the scarcity of time is coupled with the epidemic of stress in the modern world, and when we don't have a positive connection with the flow of time, we lack purpose as well as develop health problems.
The Art of Stopping Time offers specific meditations to empower the listener to feel like they have MORE time, even though they are probably busier than ever. This audiobook is based on the concept of a 100-Day Gong - an ancient Chinese technique for forming new habits over 100 days which the listener can simply work into their daily life. As the author explains, 'A Gong is a dedicated act of self-love and by practising these small but profound changes we are snapped out of our daily trance into the light of awareness, where we find peace and joy.'

Through Zen stories, jokes and answers to questions, Osho highlights our conditioning - our learned social and cultural behavior and beliefs - as the barrier to our natural state of happiness.
Wielding his words like a humorous, compassionate Zen stick, Osho shows us how we can begin to recognize our conditioning and see that it is not the same as our authentic self.

Publisher's Summary:
Shiva is one of the most mysterious gods of the Hindu pantheon. His energy can be found in all things, yet his tranquil and fierce energy can seem out of reach for some. His images often depict him in a meditative state or in his most common form, the Nataraja, or the one who dances within the circular fires that represent creation and dissolution.
He is by far one of the most ancient of the Hindu gods, there are hints of him in the Vedas, and this form is often called "proto-Shiva". In his current incarnation he is part of the Hindu Trinity that is comprised of the gods Brahma and Vishnu.
Shiva's name means "the auspicious one". Shiva is the god of creation, destruction, and regeneration. It is for this reason his mantras are so powerful; they are multipurpose and can serve the magician in any way he or she sees fit.
Although most deities that I work with are female, Shiva is the only exception. He has been my patron for decades. I even have a tattoo of his image on my back. He is very close to me.
Often Shiva is associated with unbridled sexuality, eccentricity, and nirvanic states. He has all these within himself. He is no doubt a figure that would be interpreted in the west as the embodiment of all that is evil, sinful, and dark. This reputation is not helped by the fact many of his followers are known to perform actions that are often shocking and even downright lewd. They do this not because they are degenerates, but because they are trying to prove a point. In many ways, Shiva is the god of the outcasts.
Shiva will challenge you in ways other gods will not. He will force you to go deep into your nature. If you are not introspective, Shiva will and can be a nightmare for you. He will force you to break open.
His mantras are often recited when people need help. All problems you may have, be they physical, mental or spiritual he can help you.

Publisher's Summary:
Karma is the cosmic law that ensures all good deeds are rewarded, while bad deeds receive an equally deserving punishment. The concept of karma was first expressed in the ancient Hindu writings, known as the Vedas. Due to increased awareness and acceptance of eastern spiritual practices and philosophies worldwide these days, the concept of karma has become a widely accepted. It is a safe bet to say that almost the majority of us - regardless of culture, creed, and religion - do believe in some form of universal law that calls for us to act morally lest we will be faced with the repercussions. However, very few of us would take care not to violate this cosmic law.
Consider this: do you ever feel like you are often at the wrong place, at the wrong time, and surrounded by the wrong people?
It is as if the universe is conspiring against you. This is karma in motion. But if you often feel like a hopeless victim of fate, and believe that life can never go your way just like it had for everyone else, you could not have been more wrong.
The karmic blueprint of your life is your own creation, and as such, you have the power within yourself to change it - for better or worse.
Practical Buddhism for Karma Healing is a guide that will arm you with the right knowledge and practical tools to nurture your spiritual side and be free from the shackles of past "karmic debt". Using the principles and teachings of Buddhism, you will be guided towards fostering the right attitude that will have a profound positive effect on your daily life, and also help you attain inner peace. Before you know it, you will be attracting all the right people and circumstances into your life that will propel you to where we want to be. Publisher's Summary:
The Bhagavad Gita is a Hindu scripture written in Sanskrit language. It was written as part of the Hindu epic Mahabharata by the sage Ved Vyas, whose full name was Krishna Dvaipayana Vyasa. The scripture contains 700 verses that talk about various spiritual issues that you may come across in your life and that help in achieving liberation.
"Gita" means song and "Bhagavada" means God. Together the words mean "Song of the Lord". Here Lord refers to the Hindu god, Krishna. The word "Srimada" is often added at the beginning of the name as a matter of respect, since Hindus believe that when you read the Gita, the essence of all spiritual knowledge is revealed to you.
Hindus believe that the Gita was originally spoken by Lord Krishna in the holy land of Kurukshetra, the place where the Mahabharata war was fought between the feuding families, the Pandavas and the Kauravas. Set in a narrative framework, the Gita is a dialogue between the Pandava prince, Arjun and Lord Krishna, who was his charioteer during this war.
If you are interested to learn about life, God, creation, birth and death, karma and dharma, the undying soul, salvation, and the real purpose of human existence, the Gita can be one of the best scriptures to satisfy all your spiritual queries. Furthermore, it is written in such a melodious and harmonic rhyming meter that it can be a wonderful listening experience.

Publisher's Summary:
Dating by tradition to the year 3,139 B.C., the Bhagavad Gita is the essence of Vedic knowledge and is considered by eastern and western scholars alike to be among the greatest spiritual books the world has ever been given.
In a clear and wonderful way, Lord Krishna describes the science of self-realization and the exact process by which a human being can establish their eternal relationship with God. In terms of pure, spiritual knowledge, the Bhagavad Gita is incomparable. Its intrinsic beauty is that its knowledge applies to all human beings and does not postulate any sectarian ideology. It is approachable from the sanctified realms of all religions and is glorified as the epitome of all spiritual teachings.
The primary purpose of the Bhagavad Gita is to illuminate for all of humanity the realization of the true nature of divinity; for the highest spiritual conception and the greatest material perfection is to attain love of God!

Title: Ambedkar and Buddhism, Annihilation of Caste
Author: Urgyen Sangharakshita, Dr B. R. Ambedkar
Narrator: Ratnadhya, Sagar Arya
Format: Unabridged
Length: 11 hrs and 29 mins
Language: English
Release date: 10-11-16
Publisher: Dharma Audiobooks

Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Buddhism & Eastern Religions
Publisher's Summary:
Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar was one of the most remarkable figures in the 20th century. Born an Untouchable - the lowest element of Indian society deemed to be outside the caste system, and literally 'untouchable' - he rose from abject village poverty to become the architect of the new Constitution of India following its independence from Britain in 1947.
A combination of exceptional talent, hard work and determination, vision and luck took him to Harvard and the LSE, and then back to his home country. Always, his progress was impelled by the concern for his 'Untouchable' community and it was this that underpinned work in law, politics and economics as he rapidly became a national figure who could not be ignored. He opposed Gandhi's patronising attitude towards the Untouchable community, and the violent crimes and prejudice inflicted upon it by the caste Hindu society.
In the 1930s, Ambedkar proclaimed that though he was born a Hindu, he would not die a Hindu; and on 14th October 1956, with 400,000 followers, he converted to Buddhism in a mass meeting in Nagpur. This biography is by the British-born Buddhist monk Urgyen Sangharakshita who knew Ambedkar and spent decades working with the Dalit community as the Untouchables became known.
It is a clear but affectionate look at a singular life which changed one of the largest nations on earth, and charts Ambedkar's gradual move towards Buddhism which he saw as the best path for his people.
Bonus material: in addition to the biography is Annihilation of Caste, Ambedkar's key speech - never delivered but published in 1936 - in which he set out the reality of 'Untouchable' life and the need for change, but it is at the same time an international clarion call for human rights. It is all the more poignant as, while Untouchability is outlawed in India now thanks to Dr Ambedkar's legislation, there are 200 million Dalits in India, and violence and prejudice is still commonplace.

Language: English
Release date: 08-05-15
Publisher: Vibrance Press

Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Buddhism & Eastern Religions
Publisher's Summary:
Despite the widespread popularity of Buddhist practices (like meditation), there is little understanding of the complex philosophy behind Buddhism. The historical Buddha, Gautama, was a real person - a radical - who challenged the religious leaders of his day. Buddha for Beginners introduces the listener to the historical Buddha, to the ideas that made him change his life, and to the fascinating philosophical debates that engaged him and formed the core of Buddhism. Buddha for Beginners compares Buddha's philosophy with those of his contemporaries, the later Buddhist schools, and Western Philosophy. The book includes a survey distinguishing the philosophical differences among later schools of Buddhism, such as Theravada, Madhyamaika, Tantric, Zen, and others.
Buddha for Beginners is not a book you hear, it is a book you experience. It makes you stop and close your eyes. Through some magical combination of words, drawings, and intuitive wisdom, Buddha for Beginners conveys not only the facts of Buddhism, but the peace, the silence...the feel of it. It is historically accurate, spiritually challenging, and the pauses mean as much as the words.

Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Buddhism & Eastern Religions
Publisher's Summary:
Are you seeking a deeper understanding of consciousness? Are you interested in meditation or currently practicing meditation? The Buddha and the Quantum is about the connection between meditation and physics.
Many books show parallels between consciousness and physics; a few of these attempt to explain consciousness in terms of the physics of everyday experience. This is the only book that explains physics and the everyday world in terms of consciousness alone.
It is also unique in that it demonstrates why we think there is a world independent of consciousness, explained in the same structure that explains quantum mechanics and relativity theory.
Buddha and the Quantum describes how experience in the physical world is built not from objective reality, but from experience within. Avery's brilliant model of consciousness makes difficult and subtle ideas understandable, with very surprising implications.

Publisher's Summary:
This book introduces Christian worldview apologetics. It applies worldview principles to engage Advaita Vedanta Hinduism with the biblical responses of Christianity. The Christian worldview focus is as much theological as philosophical.
Chapter one introduces the biblical mandate for apologetics, reviewing the historical and contemporary apologetic scene. It highlights diverse methodological principles in worldview apologetics, laying the groundwork for the method employed.
Chapter two introduces Vedanta Hinduism through the teachings of Sankara, Ramanuja, and Madhva. This is a primer for those unfamiliar with Advaita.
Chapter three examines Christian rapprochement and antithesis with Vedanta Hinduism. The apologist applies worldview apologetics in understanding the access points and biblical dividing lines when these two worldviews confront one another.
Chapter four commences the apologetic engagement with proof. The Advaitin presents the monistic worldview and the ultimate reality, otherwise known as Brahman. The foundational Christian worldview is represented with the scriptures, God, man, and his salvation in Jesus Christ.
Chapter five addresses the offense part of apologetics. The adherents of each worldview contrast their viewpoints against the viewpoint of the other system. Vedanta's monism, impersonal reality, inclusivity, and rationality are contrasted with Christianity's historic self-revelation of God to man.
Chapter six handles apologetic defense through the lens of experience, epistemology, and correspondence with reality. The Hindu worldview has transcending experience, supra-rational epistemology, and deep coherence. The Christian admits a transitory universe, which has no existence as a contingent creation, apart from God.
Chapter seven reviews worldview apologetic practice under metaphysics, epistemology, and ethics. These deal with the ontology of reality in its manifestations and our understanding of the truth....

Language: English
Release date: 07-02-13

Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Buddhism & Eastern Religions
Publisher's Summary:
The Tao is an ancient philosophy of living in the natural world and The Way of the Tao, Living an Authentic Life is a treatise and interpretation of Lao Tzu's Tao Te Ching. It shows you how to get back to being your authentic self, your spiritual self. The Tao has the power to help you reclaim your life from the ego-based identity that imprisons you. You can discover your authentic identity by learning to live in divine consciousness. In discovering these truths, we become the creators of the universe instead of the passive observers we have been - we learn how to live life in the now. By learning to detach from our ego we are able to come into direct contact with our true intent and motives. When we do, we begin to see ourselves as we truly are and we are able to reconnect with the divine source.
What is the way of the Tao? It is the way things are in the natural progression of life and death, the way of intelligent design as shown in nature. It is a way without dogmas, formalities or religion.
To live in the Tao is to live in peace and harmony, giving you the knowledge of being one with the higher realm of divine consciousness. It is to have the awareness of being in this world: You are one and 10,000 things at the same moment. You are the song that the bird sings, the breeze blowing through the trees, the fish swimming in a brook, the warmth of the sun shining from above, the coolness of the earth below your feet, for you are life and death, all at once and not at all. There is no separation in the divine oneness.
The Tao offers the power to liberate you from the ego-imposed prison of the dualistic world. Living in the Tao can bring a deep inner peace. The wisdom of the Tao is practical, a way of living with the clarity and knowledge of universal truth. When you are living in the Tao, you will see resistance and opposition fade away. Conflict and stress become distant memories. The issues of life become irrelevant or will simply disappear as you start living with your authentic self. For it is the Tao that teaches you how to transcend the insurmountable obstacles which the ego has created.
