Episode 93: Laine Traded to the Habs - Good or Bad?
Saison 3 · Épisode 93
mercredi 21 août 2024 • Durée 42:51
In this episode, we discuss...
On August 19, 2024, the Montreal Canadiens acquired forward Patrik Laine and 2026 2nd round pick for defenseman Jordan Harris.
Patrik Laine is a 26-year-old big sized winger (6'5") and was drafted 2nd overall in the 2016 NHL draft. He has scored 30+ goals twice and 40+ goals once. He has the ability to be a top line impact forward. When he is focused and engaged, he can change the course of game. He has one of the heaviest shots in the entire NHL and his release is up there with some of the best. He has posted 117 pts in his last 129 games and has a career goal per game average of ~35 goals. From a health perspective, his last few seasons have been a little rough. However, his points production has been very solid on a very bad team, while going through some personal issues.
Jordan Harris was a true professional and by all accounts, a very good person. However, there wasn't any place for him on the Montreal Canadiens roster. We wish him the best of luck.
We have spoken about Laine to the Habs for quite some time now. Admittedly, when the rumors first surfaced up, we did not hate the idea of Laine with the Habs, but we had our reservations and concerns. As time went on, and as we got into the dead part of the offseason, we started to really see the benefits of taking a chance on a player like Laine. You can refer to Episodes 87 and 92 to hear our thoughts on the Laine to the Habs Rumors.
Fast forward to today, the trade happened. Laine is a Hab. Is it a good thing? tune in to find out what we think.
Question(s) of the week: Are you happy the Habs acquired Laine?
For those of you who hated the idea (and even gave us a lot of heat on our previous episode) of seeing the Habs acquire Laine, seeing what they gave up for him, are you ok with the trade?

Episode 92: Canadiens Signings & Patrik Laine Rumors
Saison 3 · Épisode 92
dimanche 4 août 2024 • Durée 01:00:20
Please note that this is one of our longer episodes and we got caught up with the topics - We apologize for that, but we hope you enjoy
In this episode, we discuss...
The Montreal Canadiens signed 3 of their RFAs to new contracts. Arber Xhekaj signed for 2 years at a $1.3 million AAV, Justin Barron 2 years at a $1.15 million AAV, and Kaiden Guhle 6 years at a $5.55 million AAV. We give our thoughts on the contracts and what this could mean for the Canadiens going forward. Matt thinks that Guhle getting a 6-year contract instead of 8 is interesting. Tune in to find out why.
There have been a lot of rumors swirling around social media about Patrick Laine and the Montreal Canadiens. We have spoken about Laine and the Montreal Canadiens in the past (episode 87). Has our opinion on Laine changed since then, do we think that Laine for the next 2 years would be a good fit for the Montreal Canadiens. Knowing that he doesn't have to be "The Guy" in Montreal, would that help him to take his game to the next level? We discuss all of that and more.

Episode 83: Is Cole Caufield's Season a Disappointment?
Saison 3 · Épisode 83
mercredi 27 mars 2024 • Durée 34:29
In this episode, we discuss...
This season, the Habs have accumulated a lot of points in the standings with their no quit, competitive play. With their most recent victory against the Stanley cup contending Colorado Avalanche. Given where the Habs are at in their rebuild, is it frustrating to see them win VS teams that they "should" lose to? Or are we happy with their compete and progression as a team?
Caufield's game is more well-rounded than it has been in previous seasons. It sems that his more well-rounded style of play is coming at the cost of scoring goals. At the start of the year, projections and expectations were that he would score 40-50 goals. He has not come close to those totals, but his overall game is a lot better, and he is playing at a 65 ppg pace. Were the expectations too high? Is this the best path for him? Is this a disappointing season for him?
Certain members of the media had put out an article with a headline suggesting that Reinbacher is a bust. A bust.... Seriously!? This article came out before his first game with the Laval Rocket and obviously before ever playing an NHL game (training camp excluded). After reading the article, the journalist does not actually state that he is a bust, but that he probably shouldn't have been selected 5th overall and ahead of certain players. We give our thoughts on the article, Reinbacher, his first pro games, and what some scouting pros have said about his game.

Episode 82: Jake Allen Trade, Cap Space, Marchessault a Good Fit?
Saison 3 · Épisode 82
mardi 12 mars 2024 • Durée 41:40
In this episode, we discuss...
The Habs traded Jake Allen to the New Jersey Devils for a 2025 conditional 3rd round pick and they retained 50% of his salary. Was this a good trade for the Canadiens?
Minnesota pulled their goalie in overtime to ice 4 players. This strategy led to a 4-3 win over the Nashville Predators. This was a risky decision by the Minnesota Wild. If Nashville would've scored, it would have resulted in the Wild losing out on the OT point (aka the loser point). Should more teams do this? Or could this lead to another rule change?
At the moment, the Montreal Canadiens will have about 10 million dollars of cap space at the start of the offseason. Assuming Xhekaj signs a bridge deal (1-2 million), that would leave the have with about 8-9 million dollars. Should they go after players on the UFA market? Could Jonathan Marchessault be a good fit for the Canadiens? Should they wait for the 2025-26 UFA group (a lot of big names - if they don't re-sign), where the Habs will have a lot more cap space available to them.

Episode 81: Montreal Canadiens Trade Deadline 2023-24
Saison 3 · Épisode 81
lundi 4 mars 2024 • Durée 46:13
In this episode, we discuss...
Should the Montreal Canadiens qualify Jesse Ylonen or is this his last season with Habs? If they do qualify him, where does he fit?
There are 6-7 players who are currently on the Habs whose names have been circulating as potential trade chips for the year's NHL Trade deadline. We go through each of the names. Using some of the mock trades or suggested packages that were brought up by our fellow Habs fans, we determine whether they make any sense and if they are fair or not.

Episode 80: Is Kirby Dach YOUR 2nd Line Center?
Saison 3 · Épisode 80
jeudi 22 février 2024 • Durée 41:08
In this episode, we discuss...
We debate whether we have seen enough from Kirby Dach to cement him as the Habs 2nd line center for next year or should Kent Hughes continue to search the market for another center? Since Dach is there, and the Habs are loaded with defensive prospects, have their priorities and focus changed to another position i.e. RW? When Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton look at their "whiteboard", do they have Suzuki, Caufield, and Slafkovsky penciled in as the automatic 1st line for next year or should they look to continue to improve the 1st line?
For whatever reason there is a contingent of the Montreal Canadiens fanbase that wants Kent Hughes to trade Mike Matheson ASAP. Why is that? Mike Matheson has been good for the Canadiens and is a true professional. Why are some fans so adamant on moving Mike Matheson?

Episode 79: A "Big Offseason Splash" for the Habs Top 6?
Saison 3 · Épisode 79
jeudi 8 février 2024 • Durée 43:35
In this episode, we discuss...
We try and look into the future, specifically the offseason. We see that the Habs have a lot of assets to work with to potentially make a "big splash" for their top 6. Which team(s) would Vito, Dave and Matt want Kent Hughes to reach out to, to see if a deal can be made for a specific player (ASSUMING the target player is even available)
Should Kent Hughes put an end to the 3-goalie carousel and lower his ask? How much longer can this go on?

Question of the week: If you could speak with Kent Hughes and advise him to go and make a big splash for a player who could be available for the Habs top 6, who would you advise him to go after? (Realistic targets and not Connor McDavid LOL)

Episode 78: Sean Monahan Traded to Winnipeg
Saison 3 · Épisode 78
vendredi 2 février 2024 • Durée 30:15
In this episode, we discuss...
The Montreal Canadiens have traded Sean Monahan to the Winnipeg Jets for a 2024 1st round pick and a conditional 2027 3rd round pick.
We provide our thoughts and reactions and question what Kent Hughes' next move is might be. Did they get enough? Could the Habs have waited?
Question of the week: From the Habs perspective, did they get enough for Monahan?

Episode 77: Is the "Honeymoon" Over?
Saison 3 · Épisode 77
mercredi 24 janvier 2024 • Durée 38:43
In this episode, we discuss...
We discuss whether the "Honeymoon" is over for Jeff Gorton, Kent Hughes, and Martin St-Louis. On and off the ice, can we start questioning some of their decisions? Most recently the Habs waives Mitchell Stephens, leaving Martin St-Louis to ice 3 centers VS the Ottawa Senators. In that same game, St-Louis played Pezzetta for less than 2 minutes. Some of these decisions are confusing and hard to explain.
Matt presents a "fictitious" defenseman profile and based on the details of this defenseman; we must discuss whether this player profile is a number 1 defenseman (Hint: the player profile he describes is an actual player).
Do the Habs have a POTENTIAL number 1 defenseman and top line forward in their pipeline?Question of the week: Do Stanley cup contending teams have to have a superstar up front?
