Revisiting Ep 63: Minority Report vs Edge of Tomorrow

mardi 23 juin 2020Durée 01:01:25

This week, we're throwing it back to another of our favorite battles. They are easily two of the best sci-fi films of the past 20 years, so this was far from easy.    Time to fight it out once again! We're tackling two of Tom Cruise's best - Minority Report and Edge of Tomorrow (AKA Live, Die, Repeat). As always, this versus episode gets bloody, and it's all for your amusement. Enjoy!   Make sure to check us out at Get2theMovies.com and follow @get2themovies on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram!

Revisiting Ep 145: Goodfellas vs The Godfather

mardi 16 juin 2020Durée 45:36

This week, we're revisiting our ultimate mafia showdown. Goodfellas and The Godfather are the quintessential mob movies, but to call them that would hardly do them justice. Under the masterful direction of Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola, these films brought a nuance and humanity to the world of organized crime that has been hard to replicate. We put these two masterpieces up against each other to see which would come out on top, and while we might crown a winner, the victor only wins by a microscopic hair. Revisiting Ep 106: Interview with Director Taron Lexton

mardi 14 avril 2020Durée 01:09:51

This quarantine life has us reaching back into our vault for the best filmmaker interviews. Our interview with director Taron Lexton is one of our favorites. This is a deep dive into what makes a film career, from the struggle to the inevitable pay-off when you stay true to the art. Taron shows no signs of stopping either. The "In Search of Fellini' director is currently shooting on all 7 continents for his next film "Nomad." Ep 75: James Bond vs Mission Impossible

Épisode 75

mardi 24 juillet 2018Durée 01:01:22

In honor of the release of Mission: Impossible - Fallout, we're pitting Ethan Hunt and team up against that other kinda famous spy franchise. That's right, we're talking about Bond...James Bond. This is Spy vs Spy. It's IMF vs MI6. MI6 vs M:I6. Tom Cruise vs...a bunch of guys. Neal is dead certain 007 is going to be the obvious winner, citing iconic portrayals by Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig. But Thiago and Nick aren't having any of that. While the Bond films might have that brilliant lineup of British thespians, the Mission Impossible films have an amazing team that sees an update every movie. In addition to Tom Cruise, they've got actors like Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg and now even Superman himself, Henry Cavill. Each has valid points but it just depends on who can shout their's the loudest. If there's one thing we can agree on, it's that both franchises have delivered up some of the best action cinema of the past 50 years. And the 6th installment of the Mission Impossible series is no exception.   Make sure to check us out at Get2theMovies.com and follow @get2themovies on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram!

Ep 74: We're Finally Getting Zombieland 2 and a Joker Movie

Épisode 74

mardi 17 juillet 2018Durée 52:07

This past week has been an exciting one for movie news so we couldn't not do an episode on the biggest announcements. In the same week we received word that Zombieland 2 and the Joker film, starring Joaquin Phoenix, have been officially greenlit by their respective studios.

Zombieland still stands as the funniest zombie comedy of all time (next to Shaun of the Dead). After a failed attempt at an Amazon TV show, it only makes sense that they would give us the sequel we've been waiting for since 2009. The original cast is returning including Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson and Abigail Breslin. You probably shouldn't hold your breath for the ill-fated Bill Murray. The funny walking dead flick is slated for an October 2019 release, just in time for Halloween.

Meanwhile in comic land, DC and Warner Bros have been trying to crack a solo Joker film for a while and now it seems they're confident enough to green light the project with Joaquin Phoenix in the lead role, Todd Philips (The Hangover and War Dogs) directing and Martin Scorsese producing. The comic book movie will step outside of the cinematic Justice League movies that are already in full swing. Instead they've opted for a one-off that will tell the origin story of the psychotic killer in clown makeup. It's been described as a dark crime drama set in 1980s New York and drawing from the popular Batman: The Killing Joke comic. There's no release date yet but they start filming in September which is just 2 months away.

Ep 73: Jamie Lee Curtis Returns to Halloween

Épisode 73

mardi 10 juillet 2018Durée 51:57

40 years after the original Halloween, Michael Meyers is back to kill, maim and scare the s--- out of anybody who crosses his path and those crazy enough to buy a ticket. Negating the existence of the sequels and reboots that came later, this Halloween sees Michael once again breaking out of a mental institution and coming face to face with Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis). They’ve ditched the brother/sister storyline and damsel in distress/scream queen persona. This time Laurie wants Michael to come for her - so she can kill him. The new Halloween trailer looks like they’ve nailed the tone of the original without feeling like a repeat. Shotgun pumping and knife-wielding Laurie is a refreshing update to the franchise’s main hero.

In this episode we’re breaking down the trailer and discussing all of the highs and lows of each of the installments from the past 40 years. Whether you’re a fan of horror or film in general, you’ll enjoy listening to us geek out.

Written by Danny McBride (yes that Danny McBride) and blessed by John Carpenter (who’s returning to score the flick), our money is on this being a modern horror classic. October 19th can’t come soon enough.

Ep 72: Ghostbusters vs Ghostbusters 2

Épisode 72

mardi 3 juillet 2018Durée 51:27

When you need a debate between Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2, who you gonna call? Not Nick, Neal and Thiago, that’s for sure. In this episode we descend into the final stages of absolute madness as we battle it out over which is better, Ghostbusters or Ghostbusters 2.

While the popular consensus usually points to the original as the superior film, Neal and Thiago have something to say about that. From the scene-stealing Lord Viggo and Janosz to a walking Statue of Liberty and Bobby Brown tunes, they fight tooth and claw to crown the sequel the winner. Of course, Nick in his relentless mission to prove them wrong, doesn’t take his punches laying down. In what should have been a no-brainer, he has to scream to make sure his points are heard. He pulls out all stops with movie quotes, plot logic and examples of #2’s cartoonish antics.

At the end of the day, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Rick Moranis have rarely been in better shape as comedians. The funny exists in both movies, a lot of which was improvised on the spot. Whether you like the first or the second (if you like the reboot more than both of these, you can honestly just go eff yourself), you can probably agree that both are infinitely quotable and have only gotten better with age.

We hope you enjoy our battle royale. We certainly had fun screaming at each other for nearly an hour, all for your entertainment. We came, we saw, we kicked each other’s ass!

Ep 71: Linda Hamilton Returns to Terminator

Épisode 71

mardi 26 juin 2018Durée 51:10

Sarah Connor is back!! News of Linda Hamilton returning to the Terminator franchise 28 years after her last outing has had us excited for some time now. But now that we have photos of her on set dressed like the badass Sarah Connor, we're geeking out real hard. Other than the silver mane she's sporting, this looks just like the Sarah we fell in love with back in the 90s.

In this episode we discuss and pitch our ideas for the still-as-yet-to-be-announced plot for Terminator 6. All we know so far is that James Cameron is excited to bring the story into the 21st century to tackle subjects like AI and smart technology. With Deadpool director Tim Miller at the helm, James Cameron producing and Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton returning to the roles that made them famous, this is sure to be an excellent piece of cinema.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any news yet on whether or not we’ll see mankind’s savior, John Connor, and whether or not Edward Furlong will play him. Considering that Cameron said the next film will be a direct sequel to T2: Judgement Day and treat the other sequels like they were a bad dream or part of an alternate timeline, it’s not unreasonable that Furlong would make an appearance.

Terminator fans, join us for our ramblings on all past movies in the series and predictions for the future.

Ep 70: Movie Sequels That Are Better Than the Original

Épisode 70

mardi 19 juin 2018Durée 58:33

Movie sequels are like your kids. Often your firstborn is your favorite and then it’s just all downhill from there. But sometimes a movie will come along that totally blows us away and trumps the original. (Donnie Wahlberg’s kid brother Mark, anyone?) It’s rare but it’s been known to happen. Classic films like Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back, Spider-Man 2, The Dark Knight and Terminator 2: Judgment Day are all arguably better than their predecessors. This is in spite of the fact that the original in all four of those examples are stellar films in and of themselves. But this unique phenomenon of superior sequels doesn’t only apply to eye-candy, popcorn blockbusters. Before Sunset, Dawn of the Dead and the Godfather Part II are often considered step-ups from their respective franchises. So, in honor of the excellence that is Deadpool 2 (and Incredibles 2 and the return of Jamie Lee Curtis to Halloween), we decided to take a look at our favorite sequels that are better than the original or, at least, just as good.

Ep 69: Do We Need Another Transformers Movie?

Épisode 69

mardi 12 juin 2018Durée 54:09

Another week, another Transformers movie. Paramount just dropped a trailer for the new Transformers prequel (spinoff), Bumblebee. With the last 2 movies doing well at the Box Office but seemingly eliciting franchise fatigue from moviegoers, it begs the question, "Do we really need another Transformers movie?" The answer isn't a simple yes or no. If done right (read: if they listen to our ideas we discuss in this episode) then it could be awesome. And with Hailee Steinfeld taking up the mantel as the human lead in an 80s setting, there's definitely reason to be optimistic (insert Optimistic Prime joke here). Martin Short and John Cena also star and that doesn't suck.
