निहत्य धार्तराष्ट्रान्नः का प्रीतिः स्याज्जनार्दन।

पापमेवाश्रयेदस्मान्हत्वैतानाततायिनः॥३६॥

तस्मान्नार्हा वयं हन्तुं धार्तराष्ट्रान्स्वबान्धवान्।

स्वजनं हि कथं हत्वा सुखिनः स्याम माधव॥३७॥

भावार्थ (Hindi):

अर्जुन ने कहा —

हे जनार्दन! धृतराष्ट्र के पुत्रों को मारकर हमें कौन-सी प्रसन्नता प्राप्त होगी?

इन आततायियों को मारने पर भी हमें पाप ही लगेगा।

इसलिए हे माधव! अपने ही बंधु-बांधव धृतराष्ट्र के पुत्रों को मारना हमारे लिए उचित नहीं है।

अपने ही स्वजनों का वध करके हम कैसे सुखी हो सकते हैं?

Arjuna said —

O Janardana, what joy would we gain by killing the sons of Dhritarashtra?

Even by killing these aggressors, sin would come upon us.

Therefore, O Madhava, it is not proper for us to kill the sons of Dhritarashtra, our own relatives.

How can we be happy by killing our own kinsmen?

भावार्थ (Hindi):

अर्जुन ने कहा —

मेरे आचार्य, पिता, पुत्र, पितामह, मामा, ससुर, पौत्र, बहनोई और अन्य अनेक संबंधी —

ये सब युद्धभूमि में उपस्थित हैं।

हे मधुसूदन! मैं इनका वध नहीं करना चाहता,

चाहे वे मुझे मार ही क्यों न दें।

तीनों लोकों का राज्य भी मिले तो भी मैं इन्हें नहीं मार सकता,

तो केवल पृथ्वी के राज्य के लिए तो बिल्कुल नहीं।

My teachers, fathers, sons, grandfathers, uncles, fathers-in-law, grandsons, brothers-in-law,

and many other relatives stand here in this battle.

O Madhusudana! I do not wish to kill them, even if they strike me.

how then for the sake of an earthly kingdom?

अर्जुन ने कहा —

हे केशव! मेरा शरीर काँप रहा है, रोमांच हो रहा है, गाण्डीव धनुष हाथ से छूट रहा है और त्वचा जलने सी प्रतीत हो रही है।

मैं खड़ा नहीं रह पा रहा हूँ, मेरा मन चंचल और भ्रमित हो रहा है।

मुझे केवल अशुभ संकेत ही दिखाई दे रहे हैं और अपने स्वजनों को युद्ध में मारकर मुझे कोई कल्याण नहीं दिखता।

O Keshava! My body trembles, my hair stands on end, my Gandiva slips from my hand, and my skin burns all over.

I am unable to stand steady, my mind is reeling, and I see only omens of misfortune.

King Yudhishthira, the son of Kunti, blew his conch named Anantavijaya. Nakula blew his conch named Sughosha, and Sahadeva blew his conch named Manipushpaka.

हृषीकेश श्रीकृष्ण ने पाञ्चजन्य नामक शंख बजाया। धनंजय अर्जुन ने देवदत्त शंख बजाया और भयानक कर्म करने वाले वृकोदर भीम ने पौण्ड्र नामक महाशंख बजाया।

Meaning (English):

Hrishikesha (Shri Krishna) blew His conch named Panchajanya. Dhananjaya (Arjuna) blew his conch named Devadatta, and Vrikodara (Bhima), performer of mighty deeds, blew his great conch Paundra.

Message:

🌼 Each divine conch symbolized courage and dharma. Krishna and the Pandavas were not just declaring war, but the presence of righteousness itself.

After that, conchs, drums, trumpets, tabors, and horns suddenly blared forth all at once, producing a tumultuous and terrifying sound.

🌼 The Kaurava army tried to display its power with great noise and uproar. But external loudness cannot replace inner strength that comes from truth.

🌼 Bhishma’s mighty roar filled the Kaurava army with enthusiasm. Yet, external noise cannot silence the inner truth — dharma always speaks louder.

Our army, protected by Bhishma, is unlimited, while the Pandavas’ army, protected by Bhima, is limited.

🌼 Duryodhana measures strength in numbers, but true power lies in determination and dharma. Even a “limited” force can be victorious when righteousness is on its side.

और भी बहुत से शूरवीर हैं, जिन्होंने मेरी खातिर अपने जीवन को त्यागने का निश्चय किया है। वे सब प्रकार के अस्त्र-शस्त्रों से सुसज्जित हैं और युद्ध में निपुण हैं।

अश्वत्थामा विकर्णश्च सौमदत्तिस्तथैव च ॥८॥

भावार्थ (Hindi):

हमारी सेना में आप (द्रोणाचार्य), भीष्म, कर्ण, संग्राम में विजयी कृपाचार्य, अश्वत्थामा, विकर्ण और सोमदत्त का पुत्र भी हैं।

Meaning (English):

In our army, there are personalities like yourself, Bhishma, Karna, the victorious Kripa, Ashvatthama, Vikarna, and the son of Somadatta.

Message:

🌼 Duryodhana feels secure listing mighty warriors on his side. But history shows — even the strongest external support cannot win against dharma.

भावार्थ (Hindi):

हे द्विजश्रेष्ठ (द्रोणाचार्य)! अब आप हमारे पक्ष के उन विशेष लोगों को जान लीजिए, जो मेरी सेना के प्रधान नेता हैं। उन्हें मैं आपके परिचय के लिए बताता हूँ।

Meaning (English):

But, O best of the brahmanas (Drona), please understand who the distinguished leaders of my army are. For your knowledge, I shall name them for you.

🌼 Duryodhana begins to count the strengths on his side. In life too, we often focus on external support, forgetting that inner strength and truth are the greatest allies.

युधामन्युश्च विक्रान्त उत्तमौजाश्च वीर्यवान् ।

सौभद्रो द्रौपदेयाश्च सर्व एव महारथाः ॥६॥

भावार्थ (Hindi):

इस सेना में पराक्रमी युधामन्यु, बलशाली उत्तमौजा, सुभद्रा पुत्र अभिमन्यु और द्रौपदी के पाँचों पुत्र भी हैं। ये सब के सब महारथी हैं।

Meaning (English):

There are also the mighty Yudhamanyu, the powerful Uttamauja, the son of Subhadra (Abhimanyu), and the five sons of Draupadi—all of them great warriors.

🌼 Every generation carries the flame of courage forward. Abhimanyu and Draupadi’s sons remind us that values, strength, and wisdom live on through the next generation.

इस सेना में धृष्टकेतु, चेकितान, वीर्यवान काशी-राजा, पुरुजित, कुन्तिभोज और श्रेष्ठ पुरुष शैब्य भी हैं।

Meaning (English):

In this army there are also great heroes such as Dhrishtaketu, Chekitana, the valiant king of Kasi, Purujit, Kuntibhoja, and the noble Shaibya.

इस सेना में भीम और अर्जुन के समान युद्ध में महान धनुर्धारी शूरवीर हैं — जैसे युयुधान, विराट और महारथी द्रुपद।

Meaning (English):

Here in this army are heroic bowmen equal in battle to Bhima and Arjuna: Yuyudhana, Virata, and the great warrior Drupada.

Message:

🌼 Just as Duryodhana recognizes the strength of his opponents, life teaches us to acknowledge challenges honestly. True courage comes not by denying difficulties but by preparing to face them.

व्यूढां द्रुपदपुत्रेण तव शिष्येण धीमता ॥३॥

भावार्थ (Hindi):

दुर्योधन ने कहा — आचार्य! पाण्डुपुत्रों की इस विशाल सेना को देखिए, जिसे आपके ही बुद्धिमान शिष्य द्रुपदपुत्र (धृष्टद्युम्न) ने युद्ध की व्यवस्था में खड़ा किया है।

Meaning (English):

Duryodhana said: O teacher, behold the mighty army of the sons of Pandu, arranged in battle formation by the son of Drupada, your wise disciple.

Message:

🌼 Often in life, what we create can stand against us. Drona once taught Drupada’s son, and now that disciple leads the army opposing him. Actions return in unexpected ways.

संजय ने कहा — उस समय, जब राजा दुर्योधन ने पाण्डवों की सेना को युद्ध की व्यवस्था में खड़ा देखा, तब वह अपने आचार्य द्रोण के पास जाकर यह वचन बोला।

Sanjaya said: O King, when Duryodhana saw the Pandava army arranged in military formation, he approached his teacher Drona and spoke these words.
