A CHAT WITH: Abdullatif AlSaeed
03 Dec 2024
01:13:07
In this exclusive interview, Neno & Max chat to Bristol Rovers Vice President Abdullatif AlSaeed about all things Gas.
They discuss the season so far, rumours of team selection interference, the flat mood at the club & get an update on the infrastructure plans.
In this episode, Neno's joined by Max & Weeksy to discuss the classic 'game of two halves' - Bristol Rovers 0-0 Crawley Town. The lads pick the bones out of what went so wrong for Matt Taylor's side in the 2nd half, having put in one of their best 45 minutes of the season in the first half.
The gang then discuss the ever-changing mood around the manager's position, as well as the recent ownership/consortium rumours.
In the first part of our end of season review, the lads give their thoughts on the highs & lows from the 23/24 campaign, the Rovers retained list, and give their ratings out of 10 for The Gas' goalkeepers & defenders.
Mets sat down for a chat with writer, author, broadcaster, journalist and most importantly Gashead David Goldblatt.
Among his books are The Games: A Global History of the Olympics, The Game of Our Lives: The Meaning and Making of English Football, Futebol Nation: A Footballing History of Brazil, and The Ball Is Round: A Global History of Football.
David started supporting Rovers after moving to Bristol and living just off Gloucester road. He talks about his experiences at the Mem as a fan and his one solitary away day. He picked a good un as it was the 2015 Playoff final!
David also talks about his work with the Rapid Transition Alliance and his reoprt 'Playing against the clock' which talks about the responsibility of sport to climate change and the measures that can be taken to reduce carbon emissions.
Lastly they talk about the rampant inequality in the game and how 'project big picture' could potentially change the game if it goes through.
In this week's episode, Neno is joined by Harley & Mets to gush over the Gas' scintillating performance at the Plough Lane on Saturday - with Rovers running out 2-4 winners over AFC Wimbledon.
The lads discuss Tisdale's switch to a diamond, Nicholson's stunning solo effort, the rehabilitation of Upson & Leahy and Ehmer's stellar showing on the right of defence.
Finally, the pod ends with the crew answering listener questions, including whether sweetcorn is ever an acceptable pizza topping...
Thanks for listening & UTG!

A new manager holds the reigns at Bristol Rovers FC, but the road to success will be a long and arduous one if current form continues. Caz is joined by Max and vlogger Charlie Hayne to discuss two disappointing performances on the road.
Max believes the players must take full responsibility for the poor start to the season, and that key signings have vastly underperformed. Charlie discusses the need for a new striker amidst a bumpy injury crisis. Caz pushes to see more of Koiki on the wing.
Lots of chat about Upson's return to the side, the upcoming FA Cup 2nd Round fixture against Darlington, and the change in shape to a back four.

Duke is joined by Jacob Kelly who heads up the Recovery Through Sport programme which provide football sessions for those with mental health conditions and has been supported by Gas-men past and present.
The project won the Project of the Year Award at the Gloucestershire Football Association and McDonald's Grassroots Football Awards 2020 and has been going from strength to strength.
Jacob shares why football is so powerful in helping people with mental health conditions and shares how former Rovers stars, Stuart Sinclair, Chris Lines and James Clarke have gone above and beyond in their ambassador roles. The likes of Darrell Clarke and Ellis Harrison have given up their time to help as well.
The GasCast crew (bar a very busy Mets) went LIVE on Friday evening to discuss the new man in charge: Paul Tisdale. Is this the right choice? What strengths can he bring to our club?
With the inclusion of flat peaks, blazers, duster jackets and leopard print bowler hats - the team give their honest views on the appointment whilst taking live questions from other Gasheads.
Tune in and channel your inner Tisdale with us. UTG!
Mets caught up with Rich from the Loathed Strangers podcast to preview Saturdays game against Swindon at the County Ground.
It’s been a tumultuous week for Rovers. A 4-1 drubbing at the hands of Fleetwood cost Ben Garner his job. Breaking news from this afternoon is that Rovers have appointed Paul Tisdale on a two and a half year deal.
Swindon have had their own manager roundabout with John Sheridan leaving Wigan to join after Richie Wellens has left to join Salford City.
Rich talks about the defensive mistakes that have cost the robins this season and the struggles of filling an Eion Doyle shaped hole in their squad.
A bit of a tangent where they talk about fans not being able to go to games and score predictions for the game.
Fresh off the back of a main episode appearance, Jake Barber joins Duke at the Sporty for a chinwag about his time supporting the Gas, his vlogging days and the difficulties of being cast into the Rovers spotlight at such a young age.
Jake began vlogging as a passion project when he was just fifteen. His videos became an internet smash and was a popular face on the terraces. As with any internet success though, there are the downsides, and Jake talks about how he struggled to deal with the negative comments that he received both online and in person.
We also chat about Jakes vlogs being picked up by the club and producing his vlogs for the club YouTube account.
Jake was a delight to chat with and his openness and honesty should be held in high admiration.
The GasCast crew (bar a hungover Caz) went LIVE the morning after Ben Garner's sacking to chat about the surprising news: Why now? What went wrong? And where do Rovers go from here?
After dissecting the high and (mainly) lows of Ben's time in charge of Rovers, the lads discuss who could be next to take the reigns at the Memorial Stadium - with the likes of Mike Flynn, Paul Tisdale & Paul Cook all high in the bookies' odds.
Thanks for listening, we hope you enjoy and of course, UTG!
Miss Millies Mayhem, the Papa Johns Trophy, and FA Cup Glory
11 Nov 2020

The GasCast gang are back in lockdown, but on the airwaves to discuss a myriad of different competitions in what is becoming a hectic season schedule. Max is joined by Duke and lifelong Gashead Joe Francis to talk about the past fortnight in BS7 and all the goings on both on and off the pitch.
Duke is pleased with the teams improved creativity in the 2-1 FA Cup victory over Darrell Clarke's Walsall at the Bescot. Joe thinks the team will only improve after more time to gel. Max is frustrated by the poor excuses after recent defeats in the league.
Lots of chat about Ed Upson's return to the side, how to get the best out of Westbrooke, first impressions of Ali Koiki, and a half-mile queue at the Yate Miss Millies branch.

In an episode full of debate, Neno's joined by Max and Willett to talk about manager Matt Taylor - whose future at Bristol Rovers is becoming uncertain after a run of 7 goalless games.
The boys discuss whether they are Taylor In or Taylor Out, whether the club should have stuck with Andy Mangan, the state of the club after Barton’s departure, and the attitude and professionalism of the players.
There’s also chat about a difficult summer ahead, the ownership of the football club, attendances, season ticket sales, and the general apathy at Rovers at the moment.
Caz spoke with Rob from Vital Walsall to preview the first round FA Cup game vs Walsall.
This fixture would have been a huge one for Gasheads to attend as we would have welcomed the opposition of much loved ex-Rovers boss Darrell Clarke alongside promotion heroes Stuart Sinclair and James Clarke.
Rob gives as an insight on what to expect from Darrell Clarke's side - a man looking to seek revenge on his former club who sacked him.
The wizardry of the Turkish Messi is also discussed as Rob reflects on Oztumer's successful career at Walsall.
Lastly - score predictions with both Caz & Rob predicting goals galore from either side.
Mets caught up with Tim from The Yellow Block to get the lowdown on Posh ahead of Tuesdays game at the Mem.
Posh are sitting pretty at the top of the league after a 5-1 thrashing of Shrewsbury on the weekend. Rovers sit mid table after a 1-1 draw against Rochdale at Spotland.
Tim talks about the start of the season that Posh have had and the expectations of how their season should end.
They also talk about the players that have swapped clubs with varying degrees of success.
Lastly score predictions, with Tim predicting a score draw which most Rovers fans would go for right now!
Mets caught up with Dean from RochdaleAFC.com to look ahead to Saturdays game at the Crown Oil Arena.
Rovers come into this game off the back of a 3-1 loss against Hull on Tuesday night. Despite going 1-0 up after all of 2 minutes on the clock through James Daly, Rovers conceded 3 in the second half. Unusually all three players who came on in a triple substitution got on the scoresheet. This included former Rovers man Tom Eaves.
Rochdale battled back twice to secure a 2-2 draw with Sunderland on Tuesday night at home. Both goals coming from the returning Matty Lund.
Dean talks about the system manager Brian Barry-Murphy has deployed this season which has seen them sit in mid-table after 9 games.
He talks about the ins and outs for Dale this summer. Most notably Ian Henderson out and Matty Lund in and how this has precipitated a change in style for Dale.
Both give their match predictions and for once a Dale fan is optimistic!
This week Max is joined by Ollie and Mets fresh from the full time whistle of the Hull game to discuss a disappointing collapse for Ben Garner's men.
After a bright start where James Daly put Rovers ahead, Hull completed a perfect comeback to win the game 3-1, with all three substitutes getting on the scoresheet. Mets is frustrated at Rovers' sit deep, invite pressure tactics. Ollie analyses the weaknesses in Garner's 5-3-2 formation. Max is frustrated at the midfield three's inconsistencies.
The boys also talk about the move to the new training ground, aptly named "The Quarters", as well as briefly discussing new signings Ryan Jones and Ali Koiki.

A CHAT WITH: Ben Akers on Talk Club & Mental Health
18 Oct 2020
00:57:34
Duke is joined by Ben Akers from Talk Club, which is a talking and listening club for men. Duke and Ben discuss mental health & football and the launch of Talk Club Bristol Rovers.
Talk Club Bristol Rovers
The groups are relaxed, informal, and non-judgemental - a place where men can simply go in and get off their chest what's been happening in their week. This is part of a behaviour-changing movement aimed at getting men to talk more openly about their thoughts, feelings, worries and day-to-day gripes.
We have only just launched so stand by for further details but if you are interested then please join the private and confidential Facebook and/or WhatsApp groups.
This episode is sponsored by Bristol Beer Factory's new alcohol free beer, Clear Head. Not only is it a beautifully crafted IPA, but it will leave you feeling fresh as a daisy in the morning and a percentage of each pint sold will go to keep Talk Club sustainable.
In this impromptu episode of GasCast, Neno, Harley & Max sit down to fangirl over Rovers' signing of Erhun Oztumer - the 'Turkish Messi' - from Charlton Athletic.
The three lads also rate what has been a very busy transfer window for Ben Garner & the Gas, with no fewer than 13 new faces joining the club this summer.
We hope you enjoy & UTG.
(NOTE: Episode recorded prior to Ryan Jones signing!)
Duke is joined by Cazzer and friend of the show, Jake Barber.
The sporty pizza pod club discuss WINS and the development of sexy Garner-ball.
Caz is seriously impressed with Dave Tutonda and Jake has plenty of superlatives for Josh Hare, who have both looked very good on their respective wings.
We are all pleasantly surprised by Daly's first goal for the club and we dissect the whole of the incisive move that came moments after Jaakkola was picking the ball out of his net. A special mention for Josh Grant with his pass out to Hare, but did he mean it though?
There's not much sympathy for Michael Appleton's post-match saltiness, though Duke thinks Ehmer should have conceded a penalty in the first half, but does he care? Does he heck?!
We also look out our latest transfer news with youngsters Mehew, Tomlinson and Phillips being told they can go out on loan, with Tomlinson and Phillips securing moves to Bath City and Chippenham Town respectively. We also see Kyle Bennett move to Grimsby until the end of the season - however there are question marks over the clubs handling of the situation.
We also saw two incomings, both on a permanent basis. Ben Liddle joining from Middlesbrough and then just before we recorded on Tuesday, we got the announcement that Ali Koiki, a LWB, was going to join us. This posed the question, will we see some more players move on?
The team also give us their predictions for the upcoming match against Burton (H).

Caz is joined by Bristol Rovers legend Phil 'Percy' Purnell in a special throwback 'A Chat With' episode.
From supporting Rovers at a young age on the Eastville terraces, to scoring - not one - but TWO of the most important goals in Bristol Rovers' history.
Phil touches on the moment he kept us up by scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win over Newport, beating Bristol City 3-0 to secure promotion AND that all important goal in the 3-0 win over Blackpool to beat our rivals to the title. Phil discusses the 5,000+ Gasheads who travelled with them to Bloomfield Road and the role they played in the promotion season.
We also discuss his relationship with his team-mates, The Tote End, the move from Eastville and what it was like to be a professional footballer in the 80s & 90s compared to present day.
Finally, we talk about the career-ending leg break and what that then meant for Phil's life going forward.
Mets caught up with Gary Hutchinson from The Stacey West website and podcast to look ahead to Saturdays game at Sincil Bank.
Lincoln have a 100% record in the league and are currently top. Rovers go into the game after a 2-0 win against Northampton at home which lifted them off the foot of the table.
Gary talks about the change in style the Micheal Appleton has instigated and how it is showing fruit so far. Lincoln have scored 9 goals in the four league games so far and Gary feels there is more to come.
Gary also talks about his time as Poacher the Imp and the book he wrote about his time in the suit.
That's right - more than three months on from their last league draw, The Gas have drawn another game! I'm afraid that's about as exciting as this season gets at the moment...
As well as discussing that 0-0 stalemate at Fleetwood Town, the lads chat about the 0-3 humbling at home to Derby County, before finishing the pod by responding to your social media contributions.
Disclaimer: GasCast doesn't really hate everyone who owns a DryRobe
Mets is joined by Charles from the It’s all Cobblers to me podcast to look ahead to Saturdays game at the Mem.
Rovers go into the game on a poor run of form. An opening day draw against Sunderland at the Stadium of light has been followed up with losses to Ipswich and Donny. Northampton on the other hand have fared a bit better. An opening day draw with Wimbledon has been followed up with a win against Shrewsbury and a loss against Hull.
They chat about the hoofball under Keith Curle and the dangermen for the Cobblers.
They also chat about the many Rovers connections that Northampton town, with chief among them being the return of Chris Lines to the Mem.
A VERY long tangent about the ongoing missing money saga with the redevelopment of Sixfields is rounded off with score predictions for Saturday.
Mets is joined by Max Alderson and debutant Mike Willett. In a special treat for the lads they are recording from the Sporty!
The lads talk about the defensive frailties, especially from set pieces and if its the responsibility of the coaches to drill players or if individuals need to take more responsibility for tracking their men.
At the other end of the pitch things are looking grim and they discuss the lack of chances created for our strikers.
Each gives their stance on Garner in/out and if we are seeing any signs of Garnerball being shown on the pitch. Could our next game being Northampton who are expected to struggle be the chance for the players to show what they can do?
With the window closing on the 16th of October they discuss areas still to strengthen and what kind of player they each would want to bring in.
Finally a shout out to our sponsor Kahuna flooring, who supply and fit all types of flooring for your home or workplace. Steve & Kahuna come to you with a sample selection service and offers deals on supplied & fitted carpets, vinyls, LVT (such as Karndean and Amtico), engineered wood and more!

Duke is joined Anwar Uddin to talk about his fascinating and varied career, both past and present.
From playing youth football for West Ham with the likes of Rio Ferdinand, he then moved to Sheffield Wednesday which ended prematurely after the collapse of ITV Digital left Wednesday in financial trouble. Wednesday's loss was Rovers gain as Anwar made the journey to North Bristol. This was after John Still used his persuasive skills to assure Anwar that Rovers were heading in a better direction than *checks notes* Swansea City.
Anwar got the first team football he so craved at Rovers and loved his time in the city, however a horrific injury meant his Rovers career was cut short after only 19 league appearances. He shares tales of how he got involved in the local community whilst on the side-lines and tells us about his times rooming with The Latvian.
We look at his time at Dag & Redbridge where he captained the side and was involved in two promotions - including reaching League One on a shoestring budget. This was under the stewardship of John Still, who Anwar cites as being a pivotal reason for linking up with Dagenham.
Anwar discusses his current role with the Fans For Diversity campaign and why he believes that football has the power to unify all walks of life. He also shares his thoughts on the potential at Rovers to get more fans through the turnstiles.
There's also chat about the Black Lives Matter campaign and whilst 'taking the knee' is important, it doesn't go far enough.
Finally there's talk about his assistant manager role at Aldershot Town and how he/they managed to secure the services of *checks notes again* Ross McCormack.
Caz is joined by Donny fan Dan Nice to talk about Bristol Rovers' next fixture away at the Keepmoat Stadium.
Although The Gas have gained one point from two difficult fixtures, the performances have been unappealing for many of the Gasheads who tuned in to iFollow. The pressure is mounting on Ben Garner's shoulders as he desperately seeks his first win of the season.
Doncaster are so far unbeaten in the league, although have struggled to keep a clean sheet. They most recently secured an impressive 3-1 win over Charlton Athletic at The Valley.
Dan gives us his thoughts on their season so far and what we can expect from Darren Moore's side on Saturday.
Max is joined by Mets and friend of the show Lucy Ford.
After a battling 1-1 draw at the Stadium of Light, Max, Mets and Lucy dissect the game and the much improved performance from the game against Ipswich.
They discuss how a gritty defensive performance earned the Gas a point. They discuss Phil Parkinsons post match comments and if this was time wasting or streetwise 'game management'.
The return of Ansii between the sticks made a huge difference, with a string of saves. Is he the best Rovers keeper ever?
They look at Hanlan and how he has slotted into a front three. Will he be able to lead the line or will the Gas need to get another striker in before the transfer window opens?
Lastly they look ahead to Saturdays game against Ipswich and give their predictions for a game that we can only hope goes better than at Portman Road.

Mets caught up with Matthew Davis aka Mavis, Nathan Hallett-Young and Natty Coles from the GasGirls.
After their 2019/20 season was declared null and void the girls find themselves back where they started 12 months ago. This was especially upsetting as they had a 100% record in the league and were only one win away from clinching the title.
Nathan explains how he wants the game to be played and this is born out in the attacking football the girls have been playing. This is typified in a resounding 6-0 win against Bristol and West in the WFA cup on Sunday.
Resolutely a tracksuit manager, we also get an insight into his music tastes which are truly horrific.
Mavis talks about the support the GasGirls have got, not just from the Community Trust, but from the wider Gas community. He also talks about the ethos of the club with no room for homophobia, racism or sexism at its core.
Natty talks about what its like captaining the GasGirls and handling the expectation that comes with the badge. She's not afraid to dish out a 'boot up the bum' on the pitch if someone isn't carrying their weight either. A woman after Mets own heart!
SCOUT REPORT: Brandon Hanlan ft. Gills In The Blood
10 Sep 2020
00:29:04
Duke is joined by Matt from Gills In The Blood to discuss another Rovers capture of a Gillingham player - this time it is 23-year-old forward, Brandon Hanlan.
Maybe not the marquee signing that some were expecting but the 23-year-old forward joins the Gas on a two-year deal and has scored 16 goals across 84 appearances for Gillingham. Garner describes Hanlan as a powerful and skilful forward who can both create and score goals who also has the work ethic and energy he wants at the front end of the team.
We hear about Hanlan as a player and whether there is more to come from him, including if he will be able to become a prolific bagsman?
Matt also gives us the lowdown on what the fee might be and also gives us his thoughts on how Rovers will fare this season as well as giving us some intel on Gillingham.
Caz is joined by Bomber from Roker Report to talk about Rovers' opening league fixture against Sunderland at The Stadium of Light.
Rovers have had a shaky start to the season, losing the first two cup matches and conceding 5 goals. Garners new 3-4-3 system is suddenly looking a lot less promising than it did in pre-season.
Sunderland were also knocked out of the first round of the Carabao Cup - only just losing out to Hull City on penalties after a 0-0 draw in 90 minutes. They quickly made up for their short goal drought by scoring a colossal EIGHT goals against Aston Villa's U21s in the EFL cup on Tuesday.
Bomber touches upon transfers, goal-scorers and what Rovers can generally expect from Phil Parkinson's side this Saturday.
Mets is joined by Jack Prentice to talk about Rovers opening fixture against Ipswich in the Carabao cup.
Rovers have had a largely successful pre-season, with some of the youngsters like Walker and Hargreaves catching the eye in Garners new 3-4-3 system.
Ipswich on the other hand have had a bit of a gruelling one, they have played Spurs and West Ham in pre-season which are expected losses, but a loss to Cambridge in their last outing has already put Paul Lambert under pressure.
Jack shares his thoughts on Lambert and his seemingly random team selection and formation selection. The incoming Oli Hawkins has given Ipswich a plan B in terms of style.
He discusses the incoming players and the ongoing transfer saga with Flynn Downes who will not be lining up on Saturday.
This is the recording of a LIVE epsiode of Gascast looking forward to the 2020/21 season.
Mets is joined by Neno, Jack, Caz and Max to look back at who stood out in preseason and who we think will be making a big splash this coming season.
With JCH leaving for Posh for an initial £1.25m there is a big number 9 spaced hole in the attack, but is Garner going to replace like for like there?
Each of the gang give their predictions for the season. Some are more optimistic than others!
There are still doubts over Garner after his disastrous run at the end of the 2019/20 season. Will a difficult start this season see him come under added pressure?

In this episode, Neno's joined by Max & Willett to discuss The Gas' recent results in the away trips to Stevenage and Northampton Town.
The lads also chat about Matt Taylor's message to the fans, how they think the manager is getting on so far, and respond to some of your social media comments.
Duke had a chinwag with PA announcer extraordinaire, Lance Cook.
Lance gives us an insight into his role, how he got the gig and the highs & lows of being the voice of Rovers.
The chat also touches on mental health and the role the Rovers community plays in supporting one another, but also how things can become toxic. We discuss personal experiences and what has helped and what has been difficult.

With the 2020/21 Season bearing down on us, the boys are joined by super charity marathon runner Nik Weeks to talk about the two pre-season wins against Bristol Manor Farm and Exeter City, as well as the signings of Zain Westbrooke and Jayden Mitchell-Lawson.
With two games to discuss, the guys look over the new 3-4-3 shape Ben Garner seems to be favouring, as well as individual performances that have stood out so far.
Duke talks JML in the #10 role, Nik thinks we still need another striker, and Max has a theory on why Saturday's ref refused to officiate beyond the 90 minutes.
Mets had the pleasure of speaking to his all time favourite player Stuart Sinclair about his time at the Gas.
Stu talks about his release by Luton at 16 and plying his trade in non-league with various clubs before DC brought him to BS7.
An instant fan favourite he chats about his rise through the leagues with the Gas.
Starting with the conference season they talk about the pressure the squad and manager were under for an instant return to league football. He talks about the injury that kept him out of the Wembley final that year and if Will Puddy was fouled at Dover away...
In his first season in league football Stu managed to bag a 94th minute winner against his boyhood club Luton, witness Lee Brown send us up and talk about the scenes on Gloucester Road afterwards.
The following season in league one saw Rovers play away at Stamford bridge in the cup and run the premier league team close. Conte bringing on Hazard and Terry to see the game out.
They talk about DC losing his job, Taylor leaving to cross the city divide and eventually his departure from the club.

Duke is joined by Simon from the Football League focused YouTube channel Empty Seats and is also a massive Coventry fan.
We discuss the signing of the highly rated ex-Coventry midfielder Zain Westbrooke. The 23 year-old joins on a three year deal, for an undisclosed fee and was a key part in Coventry’s championship winning campaign. Westbrooke will wear the number 8 this season and is likely to be a key figure in the heart of the Rovers midfield.
Will Westbrooke be the creative centre midfielder we've been crying out for? How good was he for Cov? And could he get another League One promotion under his belt?
We also discuss Rovers being a Coventry feeder club and how Cov may fair in the Championship next season.
The GasCast Gang are back for an all new season. In the first episode discussing the upcoming 2020/21 campaign Max Alderson is joined by Ollie Neno and Nathan Cartmel to discuss a flurry of transfer activity that saw Rovers bring in five new players in a two week period.
The lads also talk about the outgoings of Rollin Menayese and Ollie Clarke, who both left Rovers to reunite with former Gas gaffer Graham Coughlan at Mansfield Town.
Among other topics, Max thinks Barrett can realise his potential, Neno has his eyes set on one of the new players in more ways that one, and Nathan discusses cashing in on Jonson Clarke-Harris.

Mets sat down with Tom and Martyn to chat all things Gas. Both Martyn and Tom have been brought to the club by Wael and its fair to say they have both made a huge impact.
Tom talks about how he has increased revenue coming into the club with the retro inspired kits the last two seasons along with revamping the bar areas to get Gasheads spending their money with the club.
Martyn talks about how coronavirus has affected the clubs financial position and what the impact of Wael capitalising debt means to the club.
He also talks strategy with a focus on developing younger players as assets and gives an update on the plans for the training ground.
Tom also talks about his Martyn Starnes branded socks, which are for sale in the club shop and the pairs very cordial working relationship.
SCOUT REPORT: Sam Nicholson ft Holding The High Line
22 Jul 2020
00:21:53
Max is joined by Matt Pollard from Holding The High Line, the independent Colorado Rapids podcast to talk about new Rovers winger Sam Nicholson.
The 25 year old Scotsman became Ben Garner's fourth summer signing on Wednesday morning, leaving the MLS side to join up with the Pirates to be closer to his family in the UK.
Matt provides excellent insight into Nicholson's time at the Rapids, discusses his key attributes and strengths, and predicts the impact he will have at League One level. The pair also discuss the effects of COVID-19 on the MLS season, comparisons with Lynden Gooch, and Matt's favourite Nicholson memories.
Bristol Rovers' hometown hero Chris Lines joins Max to discuss his three (yes, three) promotions at the club. Linesy talks about breaking into the first team under Paul Trollope, and how he went from a released youth-team prospect to a regular starter in League One in a matter of years. Chris also talks about the relegation from League One, where it all went wrong under Dave Penney's reign, and how he eventually came to leave the club for Sheffield Wednesday in 2011.
Linesy also talks about his return to the club under Darrell Clarke, and how dropping down to non-league to help his boyhood club was a no-brainer. He discusses Play-Offs, Wembley drama, and THAT Lee Brown Goal, as well as playing at Chelsea in the League Cup, adapting his game as time has gone on, and an infamous bust-up with Graham Coughlan.
It was great to chat with Chris for an extended hour and a half, covering a monumental 11 seasons at the club - Enjoy!

Nothing in 2011 was more eventful than the goings on at the Memorial Stadium that year, where following relegation to L2 the season before, Paul Buckle left Torquay United to take the reigns at Bristol Rovers - who were expected to take the fourth tier by storm and bounce straight back up.
Join Ollie, Caz & Max as they reminisce on what was one of the most eventful, memorable & chaotic seasons in recent memory at the Gas (if not the most successful!)
Grab a cider, sit back & strap yourself in for a bumpy ride...
In this episode, Neno & Willett discuss a winless start to 2024 for Rovers under Matt Taylor.
The lads discuss their takeaways from the defeats to Norwich, Blackpool & Exeter and what business they'd like to see in the final week of the January transfer window.
Mets is joined by Matt from GillsInTheBlood to talk about Max Ehmer.
The 28 year old is Gillingham's captain and a free agent as we record with Gillingham not yet giving him a new deal. Bristol Live reported that Rovers were close to securing his services, but Steve Evans has come out and said he is confident that Max will sign a new deal when it is offered.
Matt puts in a glowing review for Max and he sounds exactly the kind of player that Rovers need to fill the boots of Millwall Tone.
In this scout report Mets is joined by Sam from Argyle Life to walk about 21 midfielder Josh Grant who spent the 2019/20 season on loan at Plymouth.
A bit of a bomb scare at centre back when he first joined on loan from Chelsea, he lacked the aerial ability and strength to cut it at League Two level. A switch to defensive centre midfield has proved to be a revelation.
His reading of the game and passing ability have meant he was one of Argyles best performers with Ryan Lowe offering a permanent deal.
A move to BS7 looks more likely as its an easier commute back to London for the young lad.
Mets is joined by Sam Blakey from the Roker Report to talk about 26 year old centre back Jack Baldwin.
A big money signing for Posh, Jack signed for Sunderland in 2018 for an undisclosed fee. Despite playing 34 times in that season Jack was sent out on loan to Salford for the 2019-20 season.
Sam talks about his strengths and weaknesses as a player. A major strength being his composure on the ball which sounds like why Garner is in for him.
A weakness is that he needs a leader next to him. With Tony Craig departing this summer, will Rovers be able to get a player in a similar mould to replace him?
