S1 E21 Cure For The Common Life - How to Spot a Liar & Tips for Reading Body Language, With Jan Hargrave22 Sep 202000:28:59

Joining me today is renowned body language expert, published author, and sought after consultant, Jan Hargrave, who specializes in the field of nonverbal communication. Jan has worked on many notable criminal cases, including the likes of OJ Simpson and JonBenét Ramsey as a jury consultant and lie detection specialist. In this episode, she shares her intimate knowledge on the topic of body language and gives some useful advice on how we can approach reading others better.

What’s particularly interesting, is the link that body language has with lying. Our bodies often give away signals or ‘tells’ that we aren’t being truthful, no matter how hard we try to play it off or blend in with the crowd. We discuss how body language plays such a prevalent role in detecting signs of mistrust in politics, particularly in the US government, how Jan influenced the title of ‘jury consultant,’ and what she has learned throughout her extensive career as a body language analyst.

If you’re interested to hear more, then tune in to Episode 21 of Cure For The Common Life!

Some Questions I Ask:

  • Could you elaborate on what it is that you do? (3:41)
  • Do you primarily teach individuals in upper management roles? (7:03)
  • How have you personally responded to the current political climate in the US, particularly while observing body language in the media? (13:23)

In This Episode You Will Learn:

  • How Jan discovered the field of body language expertise (4:33)
  • The first class Jan ever taught for attorneys on picking favorable juries (6:11)

  • What I’ve learned from Jan throughout the years (9:46)
  • Jan’s professional perspective on reading other people’s body language (10:17)
  • How Jan’s work has shifted public perception towards her line of work and legitimized the field (11:14)
  • Why we should trust our intuition (12:04)
  • Jan’s advice for reading body language virtually & Her ‘triple threat method’ for emulating social interaction during Covid-19 (17:16)

S1 E20 Cure For The Common Life - How to Protect Yourself from the Negative Frequencies that Bombard Your Body15 Sep 202000:27:21

If you’ve ever found yourself having brain fog or feeling fatigue, then guess what: it might be possible that the electromagnetic frequencies (EMF) produced by our everyday devices are affecting your health.

Unfortunately, these EMFs are everywhere and certain types weaken our immune system, our thought process, our mental clarity, muscle strength – literally everything about us. And the saddest thing is we can’t get rid of them.

The good news is that we can protect ourselves from them. Earlier this year, in a previous episode, I’ve mentioned a device that dissipates and even cancels out the negative electromagnetic frequencies – Q-Link – and today, back by popular demand, I’m sharing with you a few more details about it.

Listen to Episode 20 of Cure For The Common Life all the way to the end because the company that produces these devices has a surprise for you – and I’m going to share it with you because taking care of your body is not a luxury that only some can afford, but it’s a necessity for all of us!

In this episode, you will learn:

  • The story of how a long time ago I got introduced to a device that neutralizes the bad energy that’s around me. (03:13)
  • A physics crash course on how the electromagnetic frequencies work and how some of them affect us. (14:42)
  • A simple test that proved to me how efficient Q-Link is. (17:25)
  • One thing you can do at home, to convince yourself of the EMS effects on your body. (18:55)
  • Why you should buy a Q-Link for yourself. (22:50)
  • The limited offer that Q-Link has for anyone that buys their product in the near future. (23:43)

S1 E19 Cure For The Common Life - The Skillset That Will Help Your Business Thrive08 Sep 202000:23:53

We hear so much about the ‘new normal’ without fully acknowledging that when all of this is over, there will still be many side effects that stay with us.

When it comes to the power platforms like Zoom have gained, it has been proved to us that geographic limitations are irrelevant when it comes to business, showing us that you can be equally as productive and work as hard from the comfort of your own home.

Today, I come to you with what is perhaps the most useful skillset you can learn at the moment to further develop your business capabilities. Learning how to be comfortable speaking to a camera without an audience nor a response is crucial in helping you to do better business and interact better with people. It is for us to accept that this new normal requires us to develop confidence in front of cameras, and for us to embrace this wave of the future and make it work in our favor.

So, listen to Episode 19 of Cure for the Common Life, to get better insights into this topic and learn the importance of overcoming your limitations around the online space and especially around being in front of a camera!

In this episode, you will learn:

  • How the pandemic gave me joy even though I lost 80% of my usual income. (04:16)
  • The importance of learning how to talk in front of a camera without getting a response back from people. (09:12)
  • An example of how teachers practiced this skill set and got better at it. (11:02)
  • My experience of being a speaker at a large virtual online event. (13:42)

S1 E18 Cure For The Common Life - Procrastination01 Sep 202000:21:38

We, as humans, seem to find it especially hard to create the time we need to get to the place that we want to. It is the emotionally painful fear of failure that ties us to a place and makes us procrastinate on our chances of leaving it and living our desired lives.

It is so embedded in our brains to choose short-time, instant pleasure over any type of pain, forcing us into a cycle of avoiding short-time pain and getting short-time pleasure instead of enduring long-time pain to create long-time pleasure.

Today, I bring you a tip that will teach you how to break the pattern that is keeping you stuck, that makes you procrastinate and delay living the life you’re meant to have. By triggering our brain into relaxing and breaking down negative patterns, we trick it into celebrating our good times and unconsciously forcing us to experience them more. Teaching our brain and bodies that they are meant to do so much more will help them not want to feel instant pleasure so much but rather work hard towards a goal without feeling drained or scared.

Tune in to Episode 18 of Cure for the Common Life, to find out how to do exactly that!

In this episode you will learn:

  • What procrastination really is (04:01)
  • Why instant pleasure isn’t good in the long run (10:15)
  • How to stop procrastinating (14:40)

S1 E17 Cure For The Common Life - How to Improve Your Memory25 Aug 202000:28:41

We have all been brought up to believe that memory is lost with age and that this is an inescapable truth of life. We have not, however, been told that you can train your brain into remembering by stimulating your memory.

Creating visual pictures of things you want to remember, repeating things inside of your head, and most importantly, praising yourself for remembering, are a few tips that will help your memory along the way.

Today, I come to you with what I believe is one of the most important tools to develop when trying to improve your life. By training to keep your brain and memory muscles activated and young, you step outside of the box created by our dependence on technology and you keep your memory from deteriorating. Don’t rely on it just happening - commit to it!

At the end of each episode, I want you to walk away having learned a new tool or strategy that will help you reach your goals and thrive. So, listen to Episode 17 of Cure for the Common Life, to learn how to train your brain to remember even the farthest memories.

In this episode, you will learn:

  • Some starting tips you can do to improve your memory (04:10)

S1 E16 Cure For The Common Life - Forgiveness Is the Best Success18 Aug 202000:31:37

It is never too early to start appreciating the gifts life has given you, nor too late to know what unconditional love feels like.

Practicing forgiveness and gratitude can only help you achieve further personal success, accepting the past and the present state of your life and using them to move forwards is the only way you can carry yourself into the future.

Today, I am thoroughly excited to introduce to you Kathy Buckley, one of the most extraordinary, talented, and strong women I am honored to know. Kathy is a woman of many blessings, but perhaps her biggest one is her calling towards helping people and facilitating their journey for them.

Among many other things, Kathy is a comedian, actress, and hearing-impaired motivational speaker and author. She has been nominated five times for the American Comedy Awards and has been awarded one for best writer. S1 E15 Cure For The Common Life - The Perfect Storm11 Aug 202000:31:34

The beginning of the biggest storm that has affected the world this year, COVID-19, has proven to be the trigger for the other two massive storms that have gone through the US: the Black Lives Matter movement and the economic crisis.

A pandemic that has separated all of us physically, has brought us closer together in learning and fighting against racial injustice, has made us more empathic as the human race, and has taught us that the system that is meant to protect us, does not protect all of us equally.

Today, I urge you to become the leader that you have inside of you and to share your knowledge so as to become a beacon of possibility to lead the masses affected by the storm that has hit us.  Today, I choose to get political in order to discuss the events that we are currently living, as well as offering some advice on how to properly deal with the consequences once these events disappear.

Tune in to Episode 15 of Cure For the Common Life, to learn more about these three storms that have hit the US in 2020 and how to not only survive but thrive when it all comes to an end.

In this episode, you will learn:

  • The Perfect Storm that the US is going through right now (04:33)
  • Why COVID is considered the first storm that hit the US and how it could have been prevented. (07:24)
  • How the second storm formed around systemic racism. (13:52)
  • The inevitable third storm created by the first two – the economic crash. (17:37)

S1 E14 Cure For The Common Life - Understanding Emotional Intelligence & Removing Judgement From Fear with Deb Battersby04 Aug 202000:26:44

Today, I’m joined by Speaker and Success Coach at ‘Freedom Point System’ and ‘Success Matrix’, Deb Battersby! Deb has taken the time to generously share her insights and lessons she has learned in relation to how our emotions serve us and mould us into more emotionally intelligent individuals.

Too often, feelings of anger, doubt and worry are deemed as ‘negative’ and we so rarely want to look at the deeper meaning that they can offer. Through exploring these emotions in greater detail, we can gain a deeper understanding into how our minds work and destigmatize the notion that they are simply ‘bad’ feelings.

We discuss how the coping mechanisms we use to mask these thoughts are often developed from an early age, how we can learn to remove judgement from fear, and why all of our emotions are there to help and serve us in some way.

To hear more, tune in to Episode 14 of Cure For The Common Life!

Some Questions I Ask:

  • Could you share your perspective on how fear influences people’s mindsets and how the work you do can help resolve that? (3:22)
  • Where do you think the judgement comes from when it comes to how we perceive ‘negative’ emotions? (4:33)
  • Do you think that the more we repress these feelings, the harsher the effects are on us subconsciously? (6:04)
  • Do you think that our circumstances under the current pandemic are creating a deeper effect on us in relation to the judgement of our emotions? (6:59)
  • What would you say to those out there who don’t have a deep understanding of personal development and how to tap into their emotions? (10:43)
  • What can someone do once they figure out how a seemingly ‘negative’ emotion is serving them? (15:33)
  • What would you say to yourself ten years from now? (24:03)

In This Episode You Will Learn:

  • An introduction on today’s guest, Deb Battersby (1:05)
  • How we learn to develop coping mechanisms to repress strong emotions from an early age (6:16)
  • How listening to our fears can lead to greater outcomes and reveal new approaches to situations that made us uncomfortable before (8:59)
  • One of the elements behind ‘Freedom Point System’ (10:08)

S1 E13 Cure For The Common Life - How to Attract Positivism Into Your Life28 Jul 202000:36:31

In a world that constantly tells us we are not good enough and manipulates us into always searching for more, it is up to you to break down those barriers and create new, positive thoughts to become part of your identity instead.

We attract what we create. When we create negative thoughts, put ourselves down, and relieve past pains, we are triggering our brain into turning these thoughts into beliefs. The constant repetition of the same thoughts keeps us from growing. It is our job to retrieve all of the good we have in our lives and choose to let those thoughts guide us.

Today, I am thoroughly excited to share with you what I believe is the most important thing you can do to change your life’s trajectory: a tool that will help you out of the loop of past fears and negativity, and onto a path of self-love.

At the end of each episode, I want you to walk away having learned a new tool or strategy that will help you reach your goals and thrive. Tune in to episode 13 of Cure for the Common Life, with myself, Joseph McClendon III, to boldly step up and dare to make your life magnificent.

When written down, dreams evolve into a vision that comes true in your heart, mind, and body. It is a vision that you visit every day and you feel compelled to pursue. Reading your vision every day makes you excited about it and helps bring to life the situations or material things that you are reaching towards.

Today, I present you with an effective tool towards accomplishing your dreams - writing them down. By passing them from your mind onto paper, you create them in physical form and allow them to go into your emotions and your body for you to visit and go after.

S1 E9 Cure For The Common Life - How to Train Like a Gymnast30 Jun 202000:36:20

A career in sports is usually short, and most athletes get used to a lifestyle that can hardly be recreated outside the playing field, whichever that may be. After they retire, they begin to miss that environment, and sometimes they miss having that accountability, that structure, and the community they’ve been a part of for a significant period in their life.

In today’s episode, I have a very special guest, Danielle, who, as a former gymnast, understands firsthand what it’s like to experience this shift, from being an athlete to retiring and having to change her lifestyle. Being part of both worlds, we discuss how she managed to create a concept that helps people live a better life, be physically fit, mentally strong, and emotionally intelligent, as a whole, just like athletes do throughout their careers.

Danielle Gray is a multi-talented, multifaceted, and multi-passionate entrepreneur. She’s a fitness model, a professional trainer, a speaker, and she’s also the founder of Train like a Gymnast – a program that helps high-achieving formerly competitive athletes become more emotionally intelligent through physical and mental conditioning, so that they can maximize their full potential.

Listen to Episode 09 of Cure for the Common Life, to learn how to develop the right mindset and take the best approach with regard to your health and wellness, because it will have a domino effect when it comes to your performance, strength, flexibility and your entire life.

Some questions I ask:

  • What brought you to the place you’re at, and what are some of the things that you’ve gone through? (03:30)
  • What caused you to retire from gymnastics at an early age? (07:34)
  • What are your beliefs with regard to taking care of yourself? (17:01)
  • If you could say something to your future self, 10 years from now, what would you say that would help you now? (31:03)

In this episode, you will learn:

  • How the two types of people – the matcher and the mismatcher – react when their beliefs are challenged. (10:57)
  • The concept of training like a gymnast & the reality athletes have to deal with after they retire. (13:41)
  • How aligning your decisions with your identity has a ripple effect in all aspects of your life. (17:51)
  • The difference in how Danielle - being of mixed descent - was treated before the whole race issue emerged in our country and now. (19:51)
  • How the acts of kindness, love, and forgiveness soften the attitude of bullies. (25:41)

S1 E8 Cure For The Common Life - From Pain to Purpose: Turning Tragedies into Triumphs23 Jun 202000:30:28

“Life is not a fairy tale, and the minute that we decide it's not going to be and we're still just going to think of it as beautiful and look for the good stuff, then we can have a great life!” – Rebekah Gregory

We can’t avoid experiencing the uncomfortable, we can’t predict the tragedies that will knock on our doors, and, for sure, we can’t change what has already happened. No matter the challenges that are thrown at us, what matters is our attitude toward them and our capability to embrace them and turn them into successful adventures that can change our lives and those around us.

Rebekah, my guest today, epitomizes the phrase, ‘turning tragedy into triumph’ and in this episode, I invited her to share the painful story of surviving a bombing attack that actually turned out to be one of her greatest blessings in life.

Rebekah Gregory is a nationally recognized public speaker & author, whose life was forever changed due to the bombings at the Boston Marathon on April 15th, 2013. This act of terrorism may have claimed her leg, but it could not claim her spirit, and since then, Rebekah has become a force to be reckoned with. She has inspired audiences across the spectrum, including the Ambassador of the Holy See in Rome, Italy, the United Nations, Asics, ESPN Women’s, and hundreds more.

In 2017, Rebekah had published her first book, “Taking My Life Back”, and shortly after, she launched Rebekah’s Angels Foundation, which she and her husband created to aid in the treatment of childhood trauma and PTSD. As you can see, she’s a woman that doesn’t give up in the face of adversity, so listen to Episode 08 of Cure For The Common Life because this one might be exactly the nudge you need to get up, stand tall, face the challenges you’re going through, and be bold!

Some questions I ask:

  • Could you tell us a little bit about your journey from the bombing attack up to the point where you realized that your calling really is to help other people move beyond their tragedies?
  • Where did you learn the concept of counting your blessings instead of looking at the problems? (14:08)
  • What advice do you have for somebody facing whatever challenges, that will help them move forward with their lives, especially now, in times of COVID-19? (15:54)
  • What is your book about? (21:26)
  • Tell us about your future podcast: when will you launch it, and what will it be about? (27:57)

In this episode, you will learn:

  • The tough story on how the Boston Marathon Bombing has affected Rebekah’s life. (02:29)
  • How emotional scars can oftentimes hurt more than the physical ones. (08:41)
  • The mindset that made Rebekah embrace the tragedies she has experienced throughout her life, and turn them into opportunities of helping other people. (12:48)
  • The importance of stopping, in the midst of a crisis, to listen to the thoughts inside your head. (18:09)
  • The changes that happen in our lives when we embrace the uncomfortable situations. (20:05)
  • Rebekah’s attitude toward the person responsible for the bombing & the promise she made the day she faced him. (23:33)

The trick to life is to boldly step up and dare to make your life magnificent and dare to do something different. Sometimes this requires an open mind to learn and understand scientific facts and truths that may be hard to accept.

In our day-to-day existence, we are surrounded by electronic devices – phones, laptops, tablets, TVs – that put out electromagnetic frequencies that harm our bodies and drain us of the energy we so much need to get on with our activities.

S1 E6 Cure For The Common Life - Practicing the Art of Pausing09 Jun 202000:31:53

Fear is often the driving force of our success. We’re so afraid of not having enough money to secure our future, or not being enough in the eyes of the ones we love, that we constantly push ourselves beyond our capabilities and we always strive to do better and be better.

And yes, the end result is we often achieve greatness, we’re shown huge respect and appreciation, and we get the financial safety we’re longing for. But, if you pause for a moment, you’ll notice that oftentimes there is a price to pay: health issues, less time spent with the people you care about, the stress of never being good enough, etc.

Today, I’m extremely excited to introduce you to one of my oldest and dearest friends of all time – my mentor and my teacher for well over three decades now - John Lewis Parker. Before he discovered the power of mindful meditation and perfected a technique called ‘The Art of Pausing’, John was one of the people that became successful not only because of his amazing talent and perseverance but also because of that fear I was talking about.

John Lewis Parker is an award-winning and Grammy-winning musician, producer, and songwriter. He’s also what I call a ‘megapreneur’ – someone that not only finds success in one area of their lives, but they’re able to use those skills that they’ve learned from that, into other areas of their existence. He accredits almost everything he has achieved throughout his journey – career, marriage, health – to meditation and the ability he gained to see life’s realities through a different lens. To give you an idea of who this amazing man is, here’s some of the celebrities he’s worked with: Chicago, Celine Dion, Dolly Parton, Sheena Easton – and the list goes on and on.

Listen to Episode 6 of Cure For The Common Life, to learn how you can consciously tap into your thoughts and accept that everything around us changes constantly and nothing is permanent. John gives us practical takeaways that are easy to incorporate in our daily routine so that we can set our trajectory UP without letting fear be in the driver’s seat.

Some questions I ask:

  • What is it about you that you were able to find success, especially in the music industry where there’s a lot of competition? (03:50)
  • What is meditation? (16:55)
  • If you could go into the future, what would you say to yourself 10 years from now? (29:36)

In this episode, you will learn:

  • How John taught me a priceless lesson on work ethic. (07:42)
  • Being mindful of the fact that reality can change in an instant can bring relief and progress into our lives. (09:13)
  • How the entertainment industry is geared toward helping us forget the things we consciously or unconsciously know are true. (11:38)
  • The reason why 40 years ago, John started to incorporate the habit of meditating into his daily routine. (14:03)
  • What STOP stands for & how this technique can help us going up in our life’s trajectory. (21:20)

S1 E5 Cure For The Common Life - Using Physics to Heal Naturally02 Jun 202000:37:33

The body depends on the proper functioning and regenerating of its cells and whenever they lose their ability to multiply correctly, that’s when a chronic disease starts to occur.

So what really makes a cell malfunction?

My guest today, forced by life-threatening circumstances, found the answer to this question, and he is the man who is going to change the face of medicine, as we know it today. I know this is a bold statement, but I’ve experienced first-hand his theory and practical ways to heal my body, and I’m sure that after listening to this episode, you too will look at your body with a different lens – one that gives hope to those who were told by their physicians, “There’s nothing we can do.”

Dr. Jerry Tennant’s life, dedicated to healing and innovation, has changed the paradigm of western medicine. He is one of the most awarded ophthalmologists of his generation and he was one of the first surgeons in the U.S. to place intraocular lenses in eyes after cataract surgery, eliminating the need for thick, incapacitating glasses – and taught his technique around the world.

Dr. Tennant is known for many great accomplishments, but there is one that though was revolutionary, has had a definite impact on his health and the groundbreaking discoveries he made. As a pioneer in LASIK surgery, Dr. Tennant was responsible for most of the research done on the Excimer laser for VISX. Due to performing countless laser operations in times when it was believed that the ordinary surgical masks were sufficient to protect doctors from contamination, in time, he developed encephalitis and a bleeding disorder that ended his career as a surgeon.

He was told by his physicians that there was nothing they could do for him, but he wasn’t going to give up and was determined to find a cure for the chronic disease that was affecting his wellbeing. He started focusing on the cell, and that’s when it all began!

Listen to Episode 05 of Cure For The Common Life, and be prepared to be mind-blown by the way Dr. Tennant not only found a way to cure his particular affection, but his discoveries are universal and used now to either prevent or heal chronic diseases of all types. Spoiler alert: we’re talking electricity and physics here, but don’t worry! You don’t have to be either an electrician nor a doctor, to understand this priceless lesson on how voltage is the main driver that allows our body to function.

I promise you that Dr. Tennant will rock your world!

Some questions I ask:

  • Can you please share with us who you are and what is it that you do? (03:33)
  • What can people with tattoos do to have their body’s wiring system completely functional again? (26:51)
  • Can you share with us a little bit about your clinic? What can people do to get more information about you? (29:30)
  • What are some simple things that anybody can do now, during this pandemic, to keep their voltage and their oxygen in the normal ranges? (30:13)

In this episode, you will learn:

  • How the pH influences the capability of any cell to run properly. (06:13)
  • How a chronic disease manifests in our bodies, at a cellular level. (09:34)
  • The three essential conditions that will help a body start healing if all of them are met at the same time. (11:21)
  • The meaning of piezoelectricity and the importance of movement and exercise for recharging our bodies. (12:16)
  • How the body’s wiring system works. (15:07)
  • The importance of the thyroid hormone T3 for our bodies. (18:04)
  • How scars or even tattoos affect our body’s wiring system and prevents it from recharging. (19:04)
  • The way our emotions impact our bodies – explained through the lens of electricity. (20:35)
  • How to easily detox a body, using the principle of ‘destructive interference’. (24:44)
  • The importance of going outside for walks, every day & and how the immune system uses ozone to kill the bugs in our bodies. (32:39)

S1 E4 Cure For The Common Life - Control the Energy You Generate26 May 202000:41:16

Energy is real. It’s not a symbol, and it’s definitely not a metaphor! It is real – and the best part is that we can control it. Every time we think, feel or do something, we’re actually changing the energy patterns in our bodies and in our minds.

Once we’re aware of this truth, it’s only up to us to generate more energy of happiness, joy, and gratitude – and if you’re wondering how on earth you could do that, Master Co, my guest today, is going to not only tell you but more importantly, he’s going to show you!

Before I met Master Stephen Co, even though I’m very open-minded – as you probably have already noticed - I was skeptical about energetic healers. But I have heard so many good things about him that I knew I had to at least get to know him, and I’m telling you, the moment this man came into my life, the instant he started working with me, I got some great results.

Master Stephen Co is an expert in Pranic Healing and Arhatic Yoga, an energy management system designed to empower people with personal development skills for greater health & well-being, a deeper spiritual connection, and living a practical & fulfilling life. Since 1988 he’s been sharing his teachings worldwide through workshops at organizations like Motorola, Microsoft, General Electric, Sears, Intel, Paypal, Us Naval Hospital San Diego, the US Army, and Tony Robbins’ Unleash the Power Within.

The first thing that strikes you about Master Co is his dynamic energy, his sense of humor and his saying it like it is, so these are some great reasons to listen to Episode 4 of The Cure for The Common Life if you’re a little bit skeptic about what he does. I guarantee you that at the end of our interview you’ll start to view the world through a different lens, and you’ll want to have this man in your life!

In this episode, you will learn:

  • Your greatness is dependent on the number of souls you can transform. (04:16)
