Episode 10 -- The Finale -- of The Year Before Disneyland wraps in July, 1955. We begin at The Disneyland Hotel and why it NOT opening with The Park was a Blessing. Then it’s back to TV with the 1st new ‘Disneyland’ The Show Ep since March: The Park’s “Pre-Opening Report!” Then it’s Walt & Lillian’s 30th Wedding Anniversary and (we hope) The Mark Twain’s Maiden Voyage. THEN, in the Week before Park Opening? Walt goes to The Hollywood Bowl, Disneyland gets a Freeway Offramp & an Address, while ABC preps the Biggest Live Event in TV History. Not a big enough finish for you? We’ll also chat what was in Fantasyland Opening Day! Including Steve Martin. Season 2 Prevue
Saison 2
mardi 21 mai 2024 • Durée 07:07
When Tron The Attraction opened in Walt Disney World in 2023, there were comments such as, “It took FIVE YEARS to build! Disneyland took ONE!” And of course there are asterisks to that but it got us thinking about The Year Before Disneyland: July 1954 to July 1955. Yes, Disneyland The Park went from breaking ground to opening. But look at what ELSE happened IN THAT SAME TIME: Disney parted with RKO and began distributing their own Pictures; The Disneyland Hotel was pitched, sold, built, ALMOST completed; Disneyland The Show – Disney’s 1st Regular TV Series – Premiered; 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea premiered; there was the Davy Crockett Phenomenon; AND Lady And The Tramp premiered. ALL these on TOP of the regular Theatrical Animated & Live-Action Product. In just that Year. And I knew we had OUR “Once Upon A Time.”
Over this season’s Ten Episodes – Ten Weeks – we’re going to cover that Year Before Disneyland – a Prologue-To and then July 1954 to July 1955 – spotlighting the Key Events, Key People involved (including several Women whose work you sure know even if you don’t yet know their names), and you bet we’ll chat the Stories Beside The Story you know I love to share.
We hope you’ll join us for From Out Of The Past, the Podcast from Holland Imaginarium. Season 2: The Year Before Disneyland. Premiering May 28th, 2024.

Episode 10 – The Finale – of our Season on the Life & Career of William Goldman rounds out The Story from 2006 to 2018, looking at a lost Non Fiction Book, a Mark Wahlberg-starrer, writing with The Sports Guy Bill Simmons, Goldman’s return to Broadway, his only Biography, losing a Daughter, and the world losing William Goldman. And when the chronology is through? We’ll of course talk his Legacy that continues – and likely will for years to come – to entertain, inform, and, yes, inspire.

mardi 2 janvier 2024 • Durée 01:04:37
Episode 9 of our Season on the Life & Career of William Goldman pauses the chronology to spotlight his two Writing-On-Writing, On-Hollywood, KINDA-Autobiographies: 1983’s ‘Adventures in the Screen Trade’ and 2000’s ‘Which Lie Did I Tell?’ Where he takes us through his work, others’ work, even presents new work for peers to critique … and you bet we discuss his infamous “Nobody Knows Anything.” But, then, remember what Orson Welles said about Biographies?

Episode 7 of our Season on the Life & Career of William Goldman gets into the bulk of his script doctoring work (including a phonecall about 'The Silence Of The Lambs' and his time on a personal favorite: ‘Chaplin’). Episode 5 of our Season on the Life & Career of William Goldman – we’re halfway through! – gets into what Goldman himself called his Leper Period. That is, Hollywood stopped calling. But, while there were NO screenplays (one teleplay), he produced SIX novels ... including his last. Oh, and in Non Fiction? We’ve arrived at his legendary, ‘Adventures In The Screen Trade.’ Now, when we say there were no screenplays, that is produced. So the ones that weren’t? Wait’ll you hear.
