Nadya Isabella (born Jakarta, Indonesia) is a Montreal-based artist, living on Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang territories. Rea Saxena’s contribution to Issue 4 is a film titled "Pigeon Hole", which we spoke about in our previous episode. In print, it exists as a series of stills pulled from the film but in its original format, it contains music by the artist Ivory Toothpaste. The following is a conversation with Ivory Toothpaste, led by Rea, about how the music used in "Pigeon Hole" came to be. It marks the first time the two of them had ever had a conversation with one another beyond the emails they had been exchanging for months. 

Rea Saxena is a multimedia artist based on Coast Salish territories. Their work reconfigures analogue mediums (Hi8 tape, 16mm and Super 8 film) into hypnotic digital media experiences akin to psychic exploration. Through colliding old and new media, Rea investigates their own relationship to dysphoria, identity, and disembodiment. 

Ivory Toothpaste is a sound artist exploring the archive, memory, and confabulation. She primarily focuses on sample-based work, indebted to the paths walked by Philip Jeck, Maria Chávez, and Daniel Lopatin. Her work is available on Bandcamp.
