Breast Cancer Chat with Jo
16 Oct 2023
01:06:18
Welcome back to another episode of Foodie Friends -- where food, parenting, women's health and life over 50 meet at a cozy virtual café!
Grab a cup of coffee, or steaming mug of tea, and settle in for this really poignant episode. Jane chats with one of her dearest friends, Jo, about their individual battles (and victories) with breast cancer. They open up about their struggles, their fear and worries, the care they received and how their breast cancer journey was very different, but also had many similarities.
October is International Breast Cancer month, so please share these episode with all the women in your life......and men, too, because they also get breast cancer.
If you're of the age, get your mammograms, stay on top of your breast self-exams, and, if you'd like to share your journey head over to our Instagram - Foodies Across the Pond . The more we share our stories, the more we can keep the conversation going, the more we can inform and educate, hopefully the more lives we can collectively save from breast cancer.
Sending love to you all! xo Lisa and Jane

Welcome back for another episode, Foodie Friends!!
If you love all things Royal Family, grab a cup of tea because you're going to love this episode!!
It's a quick and silly recap of standout moments of the Coronation. And it wouldn't be a Coronation recap if we didn't talk about Anne's feather (IYKYK), Camilla and whether her past should carry forward into the future, our favorite moments and, yes, the "something" Jane has in common with Princess Catherine.
No need to wear a tiara or fancy dress -- come as you are, pull up a chair and we hope you enjoy this episode!

A special conversation with Dawn Ford about loss, emotional healing, grief milestones and how to support loved ones
01 May 2023
01:06:26
Welcome back to another episode of Foodie Friends!
We like to keep it light and upbeat around here, but we also like to have harder conversations, too. If you've been here for awhile, you know Jane and I have covered the topic of mental health, shared our own health journeys, and delved into the correlation between our physical and our mental health.
Today our special guest is Dawn Ford, a loss and wellbeing specialist, who helps people discover their own resilience after loss. And the loss can be anything -- not just the grief of losing a loved one, but the loss of a career, marriage, health, the life someone wanted to live but isn't.
The truth is we all, at different points in our life, walk through grief. And Dawn is that ear, that shoulder, that impartial person people can reach out to for encouragement and support.
Just listening to Dawn's voice is enough to bring you a sense of calm. She is truly a special person and this is an incredibly special episode.

I'm sharing a juicy, mouth watering burger recipe that's loaded with Asian flavor. It's a step up from your regular burger! The flavor is mind blowing and you'll want to make this on repeat all year long!
Jane's sharing her signature beef wellington -- and, WAIT, before you start shaking your head and telling yourself you can't make this dish, Jane's here to share ALL the tips for making it an easy and approachable recipe.
We're also sharing our tips for a quick steak recipe, and, as usual, we go off topic.....but that's part of the fun of us!

Chatting with Laney of Life is But A Dish: Cooking without recipes, why recipes on food blogs are so long & what makes Hot Milk Cake so good
03 Apr 2023
00:48:39
Welcome back to another episode!
Today we're chatting with one of my absolute favorite food bloggers and Instagram OG's, Laney of Life is But a Dish.
Laney took her background as a teacher and her love of teaching and created an incredibly popular and successful blog AND her Cook with Confidence program. CWC has helped countless home cooks gain confidence in the kitchen and learn how to navigate kitchen tools, recipes, and ingredients to make outrageously delicious meals.
There are SO MANY valuable takeaways in this episode, you may have to listen to it twice!
Just a few things we chat about:
How Laney started her blog
Laney gives some really helpful tips for those who want to start their own food blog
Easy ways to start gaining confidence in the kitchen
It wouldn't be an interview with Laney if we didn't talk about her famous Banana Bread (seriously the best recipe!!) and the beautiful family story behind her Hot Milk Cake.
Grab your favorite beverage, curl up on your couch and enjoy our chat with Laney.

27 Mar 2023
00:22:16
Welcome back for another episode, Foodie Friends!
Oh boy, do we cover it all in this episode! From Springing forward (which no one seems to like on EITHER side of the pond), spice cupboard clean outs (and fun ways to repurpose spice jars) to a Sunday women's retreat complete with hormonal yoga and a fire pit to sour foods (and Lisa's grandmother's favorite sour drink) and Jane's latest visit to the theater which took a turn down a totally different lane of conversation.
It's a short and sweet episode -- perfect to listen while you cook dinner tonight!

From cider to gin, a trip to Herefordshire, & what Texas and Hereford have in common
20 Mar 2023
00:35:13
Welcome back to another episode of Foodie Friends!
This week we're chatting with Heidi of Eat, Sleep, Live Herefordshire! She and Jane are great friends, and it was fun hearing more about life in Herefordshire and all it has to offer in the way of food and drink and travel. And, trust us, it offers a lot!!
Did you know the UK produces the most apple cider of any country? AND, Britain drinks more cider than the rest of the world combined? Nope, neither did we!! Well, maybe Jane knew, but it was definitely news to me!
If you're planning a trip to the UK, you absolutely must add a visit to Herefordshire! Grab a pen and take notes of all the fabulous places to eat, drink and stay! I've already got my list......so I'll see you there!! We'll meet up in a pub with Jane and Heidi over cider and plenty of crisps!

Jane and I recorded this IN PERSON on my trip to the UK and I think you'll be able to tell we had a BLAST!
We got to catch up with Heidi from Eat, Live, Sleep Herefordshire over a fabulous pot of tea at incredibly charming and delicious The Nest. And, lucky us, Bruno (the CEO of Little Verzons Farm) joined us! It was completely spur of the moment and I couldn't believe I went all the way to Hereford, UK to meet someone with connections to California!

Spring cleaning time -- grab some boxes and get some tips with today's guest, Robyn Reynolds of Organize 2 Harmonize
13 Mar 2023
00:37:05
Spring is SOOOOOO close. Which means it's time to get clear out the rubbish, junk, and stuff you never use!
When you open your closet do you stand there staring for a half an hour trying to find that one cute jacket you bought who knows when, but absolutely must wear today?
Do you have 7 cans of tomatoes because you can't actually SEE how many you have, so you just add it to the list when you're at the store?
Does this sound familiar......friends are on their way over for drinks and you can't find the cute cheese knives.
If you're nodding your head to ALL of these (or even just ONE), you'll love today's guest.
Robyn Reynolds of Organize 2 Harmonize is Diva Organizer Extraordinaire! She's dropping all the tea on easy steps to get a handle on your stuff and start getting organized today.
Grab a coffee (hopefully, you can find your favorite mug!) and we hope you enjoy this brand new episode!

Are there too many made up holidays, what's St. David's Day and do you need to be Irish to celebrate St. Patrick's Day?
06 Mar 2023
00:21:59
Welcome back, Foodie Friends, to another episode!
We rant on a bit in this episode about the litany of holidays that may or may not be completely made up.....and by who? That's the question!
March has two BIG holidays that revolve around food, St. David's Day and St. Patrick's Day! Jane dishes on the scrumptious Welsh cakes and other Welsh delights, and Lisa chats about what's always on her table to celebrate St. Patrick's Day......plus the mischief the leprechauns get into at her house!
Then, when you think the episode can't get raucous enough, we go down the long winding path of UK dishes whose names don't have anything to do with the actual dish. Spotted Dick, anyone? 😂
Grab a pint or a Welsh rabbit (IYKYK) and enjoy!! ❤️☘️

A bit of motivation & inspiration from two bada$$ women over 50 who took a leap of faith to follow their dreams
18 Sep 2023
00:15:41
Yep, it's a teeny tiny departure from our usual foodie topics. But, as you know, here on Foodie Friends, we often veer off topic!
If you've feeling unsure or even fearful about making a change, following your dreams, taking a left turn when you usually turn right, hopefully this episode gives you a bit of inspiration to go after what makes you truly happy!!
We're not coaches or counselors or motivational speakers. We're just 2 women who knew nothing about how to create a podcast or write a cookbook, but knew we wanted to create both, figured it out and made it work!
Hopefully, our story resonates with you! We'd love to hear your stories, so share them in the comments!

We wanted to do a special podcast series focusing on women's health and this is the very first episode in that series.
In this episode:
Lisa and Jane both share their own personal health journeys
They chat about health care in the US vs. the UK
You'll learn why Lisa chose to go to a functional medicine doctor
They talk about the importance of advocating for your own health care
They also preview a couple very special upcoming guests
As women, Jane and Lisa thought it incredibly important to highlight women's health and use their platform to have an open and honest discussion. It's so important, as women, to talk openly about our health to bring awareness. By sharing our stories we create a strong community that can help provide support, advice and encouragement.
We'd be beyond grateful if you'd help us grow by clicking like and subscribing. You'd also make us do little happy dances around our kitchen if you leave a review and give us a 5 star rating.

Is the latest weight loss drug worth it, Jane's madly in love and pitfalls of social media
05 Jun 2023
00:22:58
Welcome back, Foodie Friends!
This episode has little more of a serious tone, but we truly believe it's an incredibly important conversation to have. As women we have so many unrealistic images constantly thrown at us, which makes it challenging to appreciate ourselves exactly as we are.
How do we ignore the messaging and learn to embrace our bodies?
Is that even a possibility with social media?
How do we address this with our daughters, so they grow up with a positive body image?
We hope you walk away from this episode with an even greater love and appreciation for yourself and your body. Because every body truly is beautiful, food is meant to nurture us and bring us joy and we need to work hard to create a new narrative that beauty and bodies come in all shapes and sizes.......and we should celebrate that!
