FOCUS ON: Linux – Détails, épisodes et analyse

Nach 20 Jahren landet der Echtzeit-Support im Linux Mainline-Kernel während Linux 6.11 erscheint. Das Linux Magazin feiert stolze 30 Jahre Bestehen und das Mono-Projekt wird an Wine übergeben. Elasticsearch wechselt wieder zu einer Open Source-Lizenz, gleichzeitig ist die zukünftige Pflege der Linux-Manpages ungewiss. Fedora 41 Beta, Ubuntu 24.04.1 und GNOME 47 erscheinen. VirtualBox 7.1 steht im Schatten einer großen Lizenzänderung und mit HeliumOS gibt es eine neue Distribution.

Neben eurem Feedback besprechen wir auch die Zusammenhänge von UEFI, Secure Boot und Windows-/Linux-Dualboot-Systemen. Das OpenSteetMap-Projekt feiert 20-jähriges Bestehen, während Serpent OS als neue Linux-Distribution erscheint. Vanilla OS wird nach langer Entwicklungszeit in Version 2 veröffentlicht. Debian schraubt am Solver der Paketverwaltung und uBlock Origin stellt die Chrome-Version des beliebten Addons ein. Die Community freut sich über die erste Alpha von Pop!_OS 24.04, die auch den COSMIC-Desktop enthält. Die Fedora-Community stellt mit Ramalama ein weiteres KI-Werkzeug vor während Manjaro an einem Immutable-Ableger arbeitet.

In our Red Hat Summit Special we were honored talking to some valuable experts. Craig gave us valuable insights on Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform 2.5 and Ansible Lightspeed. We've had a fun session with Eric talking about his view on RHEL LIghtspeed and his favorite AI-based utilities. Matthew shared recent Fedora development (and his favorite niche desktops) with us. Stef explained the benefit and technical details of RHEL Image Mode. Lastly, Carol shared her experience on crafting and maintaining vivid open-source communities with us - it was real fun! Kurz vor dem Sommerloch erreicht uns mit CVE-2022-1966 wieder eine kritische Sicherheitslücke, die es zu schließen gilt. Glücklicherweise gibt es mit openSUSE Leap 15 SP4, AlmaLinux 9.0 und NixOS 22.05 neue Distributionsversionen mit erfreulichen Veränderungen. Canonical zeigt sich bemüht, Ubuntu "snappier" zu machen und Christian findet HPs neues Dev One-Notebook vielversprechend und gleichermaßen überarbeitungswürdig.
