In Chapter 3 of The Ultimate Intention, DeVern Fromke shows that all the big themes of Scripture—creation, providence, government, redemption, sanctification, begetting, revelation—are not separate goals, but strands of one rope. And that rope is the Father’s eternal purpose in Christ.

Alex unpacks how each strand finds its meaning in Christ, beginning with the Father’s vital Fatherhood—the Father marking out a vast family for Himself in His Son, chosen before the foundation of the world. From this starting point, each strand—creation, providence, government, redemption, sanctification, begetting, and revelation—takes its proper place as a means serving the greater end.

This episode also points to what Fromke calls the Ultimate Paternal Theme: the Father’s Rule, the Father’s House, the Son’s Place, and the Father’s Heart. Fromke even describes the dimensions of life itself—length, breadth, and depth—as ways to measure how we live in His eternal intention.

In this first episode of The Eternal Purpose, Alex unpacks Chapter 1 of DeVern Fromke’s Ultimate Intention. Drawing from both the blue cover edition and the version Nancy McCready is reading on Tent Talk, Alex explores the Father’s eternal purpose with simple and down-to-earth teaching.

This episode takes us through the opening cry of the book: Help me to understand. We look at the story of Billy and his questions, and how this reveals the God-given urge in every person to ask why. We explore the sense of destiny woven into every human heart and see how Christ Himself is our righteousness and the wisdom of God, the answer to man’s deepest questions.

We also consider the difference between the acts of God and the ways of God, and the call to look past the marks of failure to the Father’s glorious “before.” Fromke shows why man’s vision is so often distorted and how Christ is revealed as the centerpiece of the Father’s universe. The episode closes with the three themes of revelation, rectification, and realisation, calling us to live of Him, through Him, and unto Him.

The Cross created a whole new man. Righteousness is about being birthed into an entirely new life in Christ. To be skilled in righteousness is to live from the acceptance already given rather than striving to earn it.

In this second episode, Alex unfolds how DeVern Fromke’s four themes (from chapter 6 of Ultimate Intention, NOT chapter 7) — redemption, sanctification, righteousness, and wisdom — shape the daily framework of the new man. Redemption gives us a new viewpoint: I belong to Him. Sanctification brings a new relatedness: I am set apart unto Him. Righteousness is a new occupation: I am occupied with Him and His working through me. And wisdom brings a new philosophy: I live from heaven’s pattern and purpose.

Milk or meat? That’s the question Hebrews 5 throws at us. “Everyone who continues to feed on milk is inexperienced and unskilled in the doctrine of righteousness.” (Hebrews 5:13 AMPC).

In this opening episode, Alex lays the foundation of the whole series. Righteousness is not a goal you strive toward — it is a Person you live from. The Father’s eternal initiative was fulfilled in the exchange of the Cross, where Christ became what you were so you could become what He is.

We’ll unpack three core truths that move us from infancy to the maturing son:

1️⃣ Righteousness is the Father’s initiative — it began in Him, not in you.

2️⃣ The Cross was an exchange — Christ became sin so you could become His righteousness.

This closing episode draws the series to its sharpest point. Alex reads the final section of Knowing the Self from Watchman Nee’s The Messenger of the Cross and uncovers three final realities: that even prayer can be driven by self-good; that confession without crucifixion is vanity; and that knowing the self is a lifelong lesson without which there is no true spiritual life. The series ends where the Cross always leads us — the end of self, and the daily expression of Christ’s Life.

📘 Core Truths from this episode:

1⃣ “Much seeking, prayers and faith appear to be directed towards God, yet within all these endeavors is most likely the anticipation of self-good.” Spiritual activity can look sincere, yet still hide self at the center. The Father allows defeat so that every false motive is exposed.

2⃣ “How vain it is for anyone to confess with the lips and even cry out for help if he fails to accept the principle of the cross in judging self.” Tears and words mean nothing if self is spared. Freedom comes only by agreeing with the Cross’s verdict.

3⃣ “Knowing the self is a lifelong lesson for a believer… outside of self-knowledge, self-examination and self-denial, there is really no way to spiritual life.” This is no one-time revelation. It is the ongoing mercy of God — exposing, judging, and stripping self until only Christ remains.

→ Is my seeking really for Christ, or still for myself?

→ Am I just confessing, or am I letting the Cross deal with self?

→ Am I willing to keep learning this lesson every day so that Christ lives through me?

→ Where am I still seeking revelation for self’s validation? Does my hunger for truth serve Christ—or is it a quiet attempt to prove that I’m worth listening to?

→ How do I respond when the wilderness drags on?  Do I view the delay as failure—or as the Father’s mercy, exposing every place where self still holds the reins?

→ Where is Holy Spirit applying the Cross right now?  What part of me is being pierced—brought to death so that Christ can finally live through me?

• Do I still identify myself as a sinner trying to get close to God — or a son who has been placed in the Beloved?  You cannot be both a sinner and a son! → Am I building from placement, or still striving for proximity?

Christ is the Foundation - and there’s no other.

If the priesthood has changed, why are we still ministering like Levites?  Why does worship still feel like work—and presence feel out of reach?

In this episode, Alex discusses one of the most deeply embedded assumptions in modern worship: that it’s our job to carry the presence or prepare the way. But Jesus didn’t come from Levi. He came from the order of Melchizedek—and if we are joined to Him, everything has changed. There’s no more outer court, no more sacred tribe, no more man who offers on our behalf.

• Have I recognised that the temple is no longer a place I go, but a person I’ve become?→ Do I live like the veil is gone, the priesthood has changed, and I am now His resting place?
