Q: Thank you for being here. So let's start by having to introduce yourself to our audience and share a little bit about your journey so far.

A: Okay, so my name is Jackie Flores, and I am Mexican. So have a bachelor degree in chemical engineering, but now I am doing things more related with biophysics biomedical engineering. So I did my bachelor's degree in Mexico, and then I did a master's degree also in Mexico.

So during my master, I moved to Barcelona one year. So I spent one year in the University of Barcelona, and then I came back to Mexico, finished my master's degree, and then I did a PhD also in chemical engineering. But at that time, I started to work a little bit in fleet mechanics, which is the topic I am developing now. And I work with some professors. They're very nice professors that help me to figure out that I really like biomedical engineering things.

So I moved to Barcelona again, I stayed in Barcelona during my PhD one year, and then I moved to Coimbra, which is a city in the center of Portugal, and I work at the University of Coimbra for almost one year. And then I came back to Mexico, I finished my PhD, and then I worked in Mexico at both a private university and also in a public university. I want to mention that the university is a public university, you only pay a small amount. It's almost like free universities. So it's affordable for medioclass people, which my family is from middle class, low class, so it's affordable for us.

And then finishing my PhD, I worked for university, and then I got a scholarship from the Mexican government to go to the UK. So then I moved to the UK. I work with a professor from the King's College London, and after that, I came back to Mexico, also worked for a public university, and then I got a position here in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where I am now doing research. So now I am Researcher. So I've been doing both teaching at universities and doing research.

So it's my main work, teacher and researcher.

Q:That's amazing Joaquin. I'm so impressed by how you did so many different degrees and your teaching, as well as your researching. And you've moved around a lot. You've lived in Mexico, you've lived in Barcelona, you've lived in Portugal, London, and then now in Hong Kong. So you're very international and very well accomplished academic researcher and person. So thank you for sharing that. And I must congratulate you on all the amazing achievements that you had.

Q: Can you talk a little bit about how did you first get interested in chemical engineering, and how did you decide to pursue this field?

A:Well, at the beginning, when I was at high school, I was very interested in mathematics, physics, and chemistry. So then I thought, what is a topic that relates all these subjects? And I realized that chemical engineering will be an option. So at that time my mom was working at the university. She was working for the administrative part of the university and she was very committed with my education like Mexican Monday with the sample ready to hit you if you don't live properly. So she brought me to the university to talk with some experts in different fields.

So I talked with a chemist, with a physicist, with pharmacobiologist, chemist, also with some physicians, also veterinarians, because I also wanted to study something related with medicine. So when I talk with the people they talk about the advantages to this certain topic ...
