About the Host

Deanne Rhynard is a seasoned HR executive and startup advisor. She has a deep appreciation for understanding the human psyche and how that intersects into one’s career journey.Deanne hosts F’ing Up, a podcast which dives into the [perceived] failures of successful individuals. 


Deanne is a serial Chief People Officer. Being a culture catalyst for companies like Performio, a sales compensation software platform, and Olo, the pioneer of digital ordering and delivery programs for restaurants. 


Under her leadership, Olo grew its employee base by over 30x, executed a successful IPO and two acquisitions. Prior to COVID, Deanne operationalized a workforce that was 65% remote, creating a unique value proposition in the tech market.


Prior to Olo, Deanne worked in various people, corporate relations, and management roles at UVA’s Darden School of Business, KKR, Marriott, and other technology startups. Her wide-ranging experience enables her to understand people needs from many different facets of life, whether a high-powered money manager or an entry level guest services representative.


Deanne holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business from Walla Walla University.  She resides in Walla Walla, WA, with her husband and three sons.

Laila Ghambari has nearly 20 years of specialty coffee experience. She won the prestigious title of United States Barista Champion in 2014 and was an elected member of the Executive Council for the Barista Guild from 2012-2016. Her expertise is in running multi unit retail operations, training and education, as well as team and organizational leadership. 

Most recently, she founded by Laila Ghambari, her coffee business consulting company that supports coffee companies with operations, education, growth, and profitability.

About Hunter Smith

Hunter Smith is the founder and former President of Champion Brewing Company and Champion Hospitality Group. 


Hunter attended Northeastern University for Music and performed as a musician in the north east before returning home to Virginia in 2009. 


Hunter completed a BS in Business Marketing from the University of Phoenix, as well as a Certificate of Brewing Technology from the Siebel Institute in Chicago and started Champion Brewing Company in downtown Charlottesville in 2012. Hunter has also become an active member in the Charlottesville community as a board member for the Music Resource Center, Piedmont Housing Alliance, New Hill Development Company, and in June of 2018 was appointed to the City of Charlottesville Board of Architectural Review by City Council. 


Hunter also works in an advisory role at his family's winery in Nelson County and as Co-Chair of Government Affairs for the Virginia Craft BrewersGuild. 


Hunter is often recognized as the grandson of C. Ray Smith, a long-tenured professor and interim dean of UVa's Darden School of Business.

Scott Landers grew up on a farm in Texas, forced to grow up quickly and tend to the needs of the farm. Some days that meant driving the tractor and some days that meant ditching the broken down tractor to walk 40 acres back home. This early education prepared Scott for hard work with grit and determination, but it didn’t come without its challenges as there was a learning curve when it came to working with others as opposed to always “cowboying it” on his own.

Scott Landers began his lifelong fascination with water and food in Northeast Texas, where he was born and raised on the sixth-generation Landers Family Farm. He has since worked as a civil engineer, product director, and independent consultant to water and food organizations.

Scott is Co-Founder and CEO at Figure 8. Since 2019, Figure 8 has worked with over 300 restaurants across the country to build more sustainable food delivery systems. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering from MIT and lives in New York City.

Carly DeFilippo is the co-founder of Cognoscenti Creative, a Denver-based branding and creative studio. Her career has spanned the fields of copywriting, marketing and brand strategy, with a particular focus on the food and hospitality sectors. 

After earning a Master’s degree in Paris—studying French culture and culinary criticism—she spent a decade in New York City, leading content marketing efforts for the Institute of Culinary Education and The Dinex Group (Chef Daniel Boulud). After several years immersed in the world of award-winning chefs, sommeliers and service professionals, she pivoted to an e-commerce start-up environment, leading B2C brand creative for food product design company W&P. 

In 2015, she co-founded Cognoscenti Creative (with her sister, Lauren, a graphic designer and photographer) with the goal of offering comprehensive branding and brand storytelling services at a scale more accessible to entrepreneurs.

  • Director of Customer Experience & Product Operations at AddThis (acquired by Oracle for $300M), 
  • Market Manager at Getaround and Hired, 
  • Director of Sales Planning and Enablement at LivingSocial, where he was the 20th employee, 
  • Operations Manager at Revolution Health Group, and 
  • Recruiter at Ettain Group (his first job out of college), and waiter at Chef Geoff's during college (he swears everyone interested in business should wait tables in their lifetime at some point). 

In his free time, Liam can be found smoking bbq low n' slow, collecting craft hot sauce for his collection, and geeking out over the latest innovations in technology. 

He resides just outside of Raleigh, NC with his wife, Megan, and two kids.
